New Pope has no problem with "teh gays." Really?

Courtesy of the BBC:

Speaking to reporters on a flight back from Brazil, he reaffirmed the Roman Catholic Church's position that homosexual acts were sinful, but homosexual orientation was not. "If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge him?"

Is this a trick?

Well assuming it's not this could in fact be a big deal. Especially since whether they admit it or not a lot of OTHER Christian groups take their lead from the Catholics, and that includes their stance on abortion, birth control, as well as homophobia.

So the Pope saying this could have a significant effect on the acceptance of homosexuality around the world moving forward.

However before you get TOO excited the Pope is not quite ready to push the church into the 21st Century on all fronts.

On the role of women in the Church, he said: "We cannot limit the role of women in the Church to altar girls or the president of a charity, there must be more.

"But with regards to the ordination of women, the Church has spoken and says no... That door is closed."

So there you have it. Yes to being less homophobic, but as for women wanting to become priests they can just fuck off.

Gee I wonder how this news will effect this guy?

I think what he's saying is if they come to the Church and want to repent, then he has no problem with them. Notice he didn't say he'd welcome them into the priesthood with the pedophiles. So, in other words, he'll no doubt hire Marcus to help him pray away the gay. I hope I'm wrong, but this is too big a change and this guy is no progressive.

So if they are gay and celibate than it is ok..............

I just wish that churches put as much emphasis on the poverty, rape, social injustice and inequality as they do on sexual orientation and abortion.

  3. This really isn't a change; they've said for a long time that 'teh gay' is okay, but any gay sexual activity is a sin.

So, if you're gay, they have no problem with you as long as you're celibate for your entire life.

Females, on the other hand, still scare the crap out of them.

He just wants gays to feel that they are welcome in the Church as long as they put some money in the offerings each visit. Wouldn't want the Catholic Church to run out of money, would we?

    Only partially true, Jesse.

He went on to say that while his (above) statement is true, the homosexual ACT is not condoned. In other words, you can be gay and there's no problem. You try to have sex and you're "screwed".

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-23489702:

"Pope Francis has said gay people should not be marginalised but integrated into society.

"Speaking to reporters on a flight back from Brazil, he reaffirmed the Roman Catholic Church's position that homosexual acts were sinful, but homosexual orientation was not."

Just a wee difference from what is said above. There is NO change of any significance here.

What I want to hear about instead of what these assholes think about gays is when they are going to excommunicate priests found guilty of pedophilia! And throw them out into the arms of the courts!

THAT'S a problem everyone should be concerned about.

And what should gay 'oriented' men and women do if god made them that way but forbids gay sexual activity? Why, they should embrace the celibate life by becoming catholic priests and nuns, of course,!

Only ordained priests can rise to power in the hierarchy (and control the vast wealth). The Pope and his allies hide behind "the Church has spoken and says no... That door is closed." because they are terrified that their precious control over women will be exposed for the misogyny that it is.

The Catholic church has the majority of the wealth in the god industry. The Pope's sole job is maintaining and growing that wealth for the enjoyment of the men in power.

Who am I to judge women (every single woman and girl on the entire f'ing planet) to be inferior? Well, of course, the Pope can do that. He can judge anyone he wants.

If this good, kind, scholarly, religious man had to actually defend his logic in open debate with actual women he would go down in flames. But he lives in a world (of his own devising) where no one ever tells him he is an idiot. Why? Because it's soooooo comfortable being a man at the top of the heap sneering down at all the women below you.

On the other hand, good ole boy Francis is more than happy to judge women who actually might want to have some control over when/if they become pregnant.

    Here's a little excerpt from www.catholic.com

Contraception is "any action which, either in anticipation of the conjugal act [sexual intercourse], or in its accomplishment, or in the development of its natural consequences, proposes, whether as an end or as a means, to render procreation impossible" (Humanae Vitae 14). This includes sterilization, condoms and other barrier methods, spermicides, coitus interruptus (withdrawal method), the Pill, and all other such methods.

Correction, he won't judge gay priests and other gays as long they remain celibate. So this isn't a real "embrace" of Teh gays.

Unfortunately, he's "only following orders". Giving lip service (excuse the pun) to "Teh Gay" and slamming the door on women.

Nice Photo! Didn't know "The Village People" reunited.

What about his comment that people who adopt kids are not real families? Did he walk that back yet?
Fuckin freak. People who are stoopid enough to listen to what a religious figurehead says deserve the angst following the retarded rules cause them!!

No real change. Pope F is doing his very best to soften the public perception of the church, and making all these nice speeches.

Wake me up when he says "Abusing children is a CRIME. If there is any HINT that a child is danger, the police/social services will be called promptly.

Priests who use their social status to have inappropriate relations with minors will have their collars yanked and be turned over to the courts."

No excuses, no apologies, just swift action.
