After a Florida jury found George Zimmerman not guilty in the murder of a young Trayvon Martin, a group of about 20 children between the ages of 2 and 12 and about 20 more young adults decided to peacefully protest racial profiling and an unjust criminal justice system in Wichita, Kansas.
Of course, rather than support their peaceful protest, two white males decided to attempt to stoke racial unrest and start a riot by provoking them with racism.
One of them wore a black shirt that read, “This shirt can say NIGG*R because it is black.” (Of course, the racist shirt did not have an asterisk, and made the point to capitalize the deeply offensive word)
Thankfully, Trayvon’s supporters kept their cool and showed these two bigots how adults handle things, peacefully questioning them about their intentions and shaming them for their racism.
Why in the world with these two men feel compelled to throw salt on the fresh wounds of Trayvon Martin’s supporters?
Why would they attempt to incite violence after the verdict? Because they were told for days that if Zimmerman were found guilty the black folks would destroy property and set everything on fire which would reinforce the white racist's contention that they were nothing more than animals.
When that eventuality failed to materialize these assholes took it upon themselves to MAKE it happen.
I hate it when I have to feel not only embarrassed for my race, but also my gender.
By the way I would make a TERRIBLE black man, because I can almost guarantee you I would have been all up in the grill of that guy with the n***er shirt and would probably have beat his ass.
These folks did the right thing.

Problem is, nothing ever ends well when a good hearted person takes the law into their own hands. My husband has spent time in jail because of being, what he thought as a good simaritan just tooning up an asshole such as these idiots.

ReplyDeleteI missed the GMA interview, so I tuned into to watch Trey's Parents and brother were interviewed on HLN (sister station to CNN), and I can't help but wonder where their eloquence, grace and patience come from while dealing with their loss and the aftermath of injustice.
His mom said her son was just a teen on his way home from a convenience store, being followed, and the jurist who yapped said he should have just ran home and Zimmerman wouldn't have killed him. Really? You're being followed by a stranger, and you're going to run home so he knows where you live? Can rob, steal, harm, or murder your family? As a parent, I can't fathom losing anyone to gun violence, I doubt I could find words to convey the hurt, yet this family does. We all need to have the "Race" discussion with our kids, and we have to be honest when dealing with other adults when discussing race relations or things will only get worse.
Dr Drew needs a royal ass whooping. He's got a panel on and all he does is whip up race vs race verbal stereotypes and bigotry, then lets the cards fall where they may. This isn't "the conversation" that heals, it plays into the root cause guys like these two are so messed up. Add Dr Drew to those who make me ashamed of my race. ALL our kids deserve to make it home safe.

Okay, let's set the stage:

That little demonstration likely didn't last very long. They probably never even got out of the truck. It kind of bothers me that, dressed as they were, they were probably driving around Wichita looking for someone demonstrating their dissatisfaction with Zimmerman's acquittal. But, with the disadvantages they faced (unfit, fat, dressed inappropriately in brutally hot weather), they wouldn't even have had a chance against the 20 children. Fail.
I lived in the south w/my second husband (we are originally from so. calif.). He used the "N" word all the time but he used it on whites. And when a black person would say something about him using the word he would tell them: take it back, be proud of it, and never let them (whites in this case) see that it hurts you...it is the only way to OWN IT.... We use to argue about it all the time, but then when someone would call me (or my daughter)a bitch...we would look at them and tell them, "AND PROUD OF IT :).
