Georgia man "stands his ground" against his own son-in-law, ends up shooting and killing two year old grandson.

Courtesy of The Atlanta Journal Constitution:

Luis Efrain Torres, 39, was at his home in the 5200 block of Stafford Drive, near Indian Trail Road, when investigators believe he got into an altercation with Deandre’s father. Deandre and his parents weren’t currently living with Torres, but previously had, police said Wednesday.

Deandre and his parents, including his father, Rochell McCoy, 29, returned to the Stafford Drive home Tuesday night.

It wasn’t known what led to the altercation between Torres and McCoy, according to police. But it was during that argument that Torres allegedly pulled a gun and fired shots toward McCoy, Smith said. One of those shots hit Deandre, who was less than three weeks shy of turning 2.

“I was arguing with him and him with me,” Torres told Channel 2 Action News. “And he threw me to the floor and pushed me and hit me.”

When Torres realized what happened, he ran to the child’s side, he said. He said he’s devastated by his grandson’s death.

He pulled a gun on his own son-in-law! Of course he belongs behind bars!

Did it not occur to him that SOMEBODY might die?

Would he have been less upset if the bullets had only killed his son-in-lw instead?

A physical altercation is NOT a reason to introduce deadly force unless you are frightened for your life. And even then, to shoot at your own son and grandson?

This whole thing makes me physically ill.

Something is wrong with this..the GRANDfather is 39, and the SON is 29? Is this his son-in-law? Is his daughter 19? The whole thing smells, and not jsut because another baby is dead in America. From a gunshot. Again. Come on Sarah, defend this. LaPierre? Boehner? Congress who won't pass any laws against guns? RIP, baby boy.

No, but I mentioned 19, it is not in the article. The feed says the granddad is 39 and killed his 29 year old son...that is not possible.

Guns + alcohol or drugs. That should be the next frontier in putting away irresponsibe, lunatic gun owners.
If an assualt is aggravated by misuse of chemical substances, then the charge must go from manslaughter to murder: Total indifference to human life.

NRA has awarded him a "Gold Star" for successful use of a gun in self defense.

Since he shot the wrong target ... he was not awarded the "Marksmanship" medal.

Andrew Halco is dancing in the street and singing.

Hope they can track some of the missing money to Sarah's bank accounts.

"He pulled a gun on his own son!" Son-in-law?

he wasn't standing his ground because the guy was running away.

He better get life in prison because this is a dangerous man who, as a convicted felon, should not have been able to get a gun.

  8. Was the grandson wearing a hoodie?

Notice that it said with his parents. That means the daughter was there too. So when he shot, it wasn't just at his son in law. It was also at his daughter and his grandson.

This isn't stand your ground. This man was in no eminent fear for his life.

I hope he spends the rest of his life behind bars.

  9. Any thinking person had to see this coming--this law is just an open invitation to gun down anybody, and then offer the pretext of "standing your ground." The irony is that a law like this is tantamount to giving up on the compromise, communication, and interrelational skills that have helped our species survive in the face of idiocy like this. This law takes us straight back to the jungle, where only the strongest survive. For folks who hate Darwin so much, the "stand your ground" folks are curiously eager to accept social darwinism.
