Fox News now ADORES Vladimir Putin and suggests that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. No, I'm NOT making that up!. Update!

"Okay so this time I'm bad cop and you're good cop. Deal."
Courtesy of Fox News:

The fact is Obama seemed headed for an attack on Syria that no one wanted and few thought would succeed. Most thought it would only end in disaster, either with the U.S. drawn into an attack/retaliation cycle of escalation that could go on for years and spread into a regional war, or result in the overthrow of President Assad by an Al Qaeda affiliated rebels.

While the Russians may have toyed with the idea of letting American get bogged down in yet another losing Middle East war, they didn’t want to risk a war that might pull them in, or lose control of the Assad government to radical Sunni jihadists.

So Putin stepped in and threw Obama a lifeline.

For a few hours it seemed Obama might not grab at it.

But he has, and will no doubt claim full credit for it being his idea all along.

The Washington press corps will no doubt believe him, as usual, and lavish their usual praise.

But the world knows that Vladimir Putin is the one who really deserves that Nobel Peace Prize.

It turns out that leading from behind left a big opening up front. Putin stepped right in. And Obama still hasn't figured it out.

Okay the "fact" is that anybody who believes that is is REALLY how things went down is a retard. Or a Fox News pundit. Assuming there is a difference.

Here is how the Daily Banter summed up the attempts to give ANYBODY but the President credit for this  Syria/Russia solution:

Of course the truth about how the Obama administration’s national security team has handled the Syrian chemical weapons crisis was almost entirely obscured in the press when it was reported that Russian president Vladimir Putin, via his foreign minister Sergey Larov, had, at least on paper, convinced Bashar al-Assad to permit the dismantling and seizing of his military’s chemical weapons arsenal. In keeping with nearly every accomplishment of this president, whether center-right or center-left, liberal or conservative, the news was treated as somehow a loss for the administration — that Pooty-Poot had reared his head into the airspace over Syria and fulfilled the conservative fantasy of Putin The Peacemaker, not to mention Putin The Obama Disser.

This scenario entirely overlooked two things: 1) the Friday G20 meeting between Putin and the president, and 2) Secretary Kerry’s remarks on Sunday, which offered Syria a way out.

Naturally any enemy, much less one with a gun to its head, isn’t going to directly accept the demands of an aggressor while under duress. The enemy, of course, wants to be able to save face. So it’s entirely likely that Putin served as a facilitator, knowing that he and his mighty pectorals would carry some heft with the Syrian government without any direct linkage to the U.S.

Here was Forbes take on what actually took place behind the scenes:

And if you think that it was only a “discussion” President Barack Obama had with Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 6, you’ve missed one of the greatest “stealth negotiations” ever conducted.

You know it no longer seems that the President is playing chess while everybody else plays checkers. It now seems like he is playing chess while everybody else adds to their booger collection.

By the way Fox News is also the "news" outlet that recently suggested that the war in Syria might be the fulfillment of Biblical prophesy.

Yeah, I am certainly going to accept THEIR interpretation of what is happening over everybody else's.

Idiots!

Update: I think it is appropriate to  provide this link to Putin's New York Times op-ed.

Let's see Fox News talk about giving him the Nobel Peace Prize now!

Putin couldn't sell me a used car. Citing the f'ing pope in a foreign policy screed, that's a sure way to destroy credibility.

From Putin's little attempt at being the wise uncle scolding the youngsters into line, you'd never know he supplied the chemical weapons.

All options in Syria are bad. We can attempt to empower Islamist extremists in the form of the rebels, we can watch Assad destroy Syria, we can wait for the Israelis to force our hand, we can non-prick the hell out of some hapless civilians, we can watch the UN disintegrate like the League of Nations, we can wait for the Saudis to force our hand, we can stir up some fear of North Korea and ignore Syria, we can...

    No good options.

Putin supplies the chemical weapons,.... along with the Great Britain, who at least on two occasions, the last in 2010, sold Syria the constituents to create chemical weapons.

Actually, John Kerry gets the credit for this one. It was entirely his idea. Of course, he said it as a condescending sarcastic slam because he didn't for a second think it was even possible, but still...

How do we know Kerry "didn't for a second think it was even possible"? He seemed to offer that answer and the details awfully quickly.

And how do we know it IS possible?

So far, we know nothing about what John Kerry was thinking and nothing about what will actually happen.

"a war nobody wanted"?? Little Johnny McCain has been on every Sunday TV show, beating the war drums. He even took his girlfriend, Miss Lyndsey, to Syria, having photos taken with who he said weere the good guys. Since he can tell who the good guys are, he had one rebel included in the photo!!! No matter what the Pressident does, he is wrong, in their book.

      @Boscoe:

FYI: The Obama administration has been trying to convince Russia to get Syria to give up their chemical weapons for over year. Russia also confirmed that Vladmir Putin discussed this again at the G-20 Summit, recently.

After over a year of trying to convince Russia to agree to get Syria to give up their chemical weapons, Russia finally agrees---after President Obama threatens to attack Syria. President Obama's threat is what got Russia, and Syria to the negotiating table.

Sorry, but President Obama gets the credit for this.

  4. Two very intelligent men (a thug and a professor) had a private meeting. I’m feeling better about things, but Assad is still a pathological liar, and many of the rebels are religious zealots. Russian won’t give up that warm water port it has in Syria, and it doesn’t want well-trained zealots drifting back into Russia once this crisis is over. We’ll see what happens; this one is impossible to call. I’m glad I live here, putting up with the occasional jingoist.

No matter what this President accomplishes, Fox News will give the credit to anyone else, even the shifty-eyed Russian ex-KGB leader. If President Obama fails in some manner, Fox News turns it into an international/galactic crisis.

Patriotic duty and respect for the President is non-existent with Fox News now, And it just so happens that this President is part African-American. Coincidence?

It's so obvious that this President will never do anything right in their eyes. They would rather put the whole nation at risk than support him. They would rather diss him in front of the world and make a mockery of the 'exceptionalism' that they brag so much about. They accuse this President of leading from behind and being wimpy and they accuse him of hurting America's tough reputation; yet, they are the ones who are hurting America's reputation, by mocking their Commander-in-Chief in FRONT OF THE WORLD. How do they think that the military men and women will feel if they have to ever be sent to help in a war conflict, and have media back home relentlessly criticize and accuse their Commander-in-Chief of being untrustworthy here at home?????

Fox News has to be the most unpatriotic tool the U.S. has ever had to put up with.

I have a friend whose brother is still in Israel (Palestine). He travels throughout the Middle East in the oil business. We talked about this and his brother's take on this is negotiations have been going on for more than a year to disarm Syria's WMD's. Assad merely speeded up the urgency by using them. And I concur, the meetings between Obama and Putin were key to this happening and in fact their "conflict" was largely orchestrated to keep Assad in the dark. I actually love the fact the commie hating right wing is now forced to embrace either Putin or the black guy. Just goes to show you how deep the racism is on the right they love on an ex KGB commie than our own President.

The Obama administration has been having discussions with Russia about getting rid of Syria's chemical weapons for over a year. Plus, Russia confirmed that President Obama, and Vladmir POOtin discussed this the other day, when the president visited Russia for the G-20 Summit.

Vladimir POOtin only made this offer to Syria now, because he is afraid the U.S. is going to attack Syria. If Vladimir POOtin didn't believe that President Obama's threat against Syria was real, he could have laughed off the threat and ignored him, but he didn't.

For decades Syria has denied that they had chemical weapons---until President Obama threatened them. Now, Syria is admitting that they do have chemical weapons, they are saying they will allow them to be destroyed, they will allow the U.N. access to them, and that Syria will sign on to a chemical weapons ban agreement.

Syria is now claiming that they are not giving up their chemical weapons because of U.S. threats, but because Russia asked them nicely. Yeah, right. Syria is trying to save face, now. The other day, Syria said they accepted Russia's offer to "derail the American aggression." Sorry, Syria! No take-backsies!

Plus, Syria could have rejected Russia's offer, but they didn't. Syria didn't reject the offer, because Russia probably convinced them that President Obama's threat was real.

So, what does this all mean? It means President Obama got Vladmir POOtin, and Assad to blink. Racist assholes can't stand it!

Weapons Industry who is starving (not) and chomping at the bit for another war (yep).

Putin just wants to verify the CACI, KBR, GE, etc markings for sourcing of the launching weaponry and the actual chems to verify the signature for its sources as well. Putin is KGB so he wants intel to give him some leverage as proof that we've always made that stuff and passed it around to friends thru pseudo-allies like Israel. Israel, like Syria, is not a signatory to the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Reagan sold them to the Iraqis via Israel to support Saddam against Ayatollah Khomeini. Saddam was our guy until he tried to grow a big stick by wanting a bigger piece of the oil profits and tried to annex the Kuwait fields. Then GHW and the CIA began helping Hezbollah in Iran to fight back against Saddam and the Sunnis, until W invaded and... well, the rest is current events.

Has Sarah Palin Embarrassed Fox News For the Last Time?

It was January 24 of this year that I was able to confirm that Fox had not renewed the contract of Sarah Palin. Six months later, on June 17th it was announced that Fox News had re-hired Palin as a contributor. In that opening interview, Sarah Palin embarrassed herself, and Fox, initially with her attire.

    palin pink shirt new york

Then during the interview she gave another “all of them” answer that confirmed she hadn’t a clue about that which she was speaking.

I can identify two subsequent segments in which Fox featured Palin. On June 22nd Palin appeared to say that Americans were losing trust in our Government. On July 26, Palin appeared on Fox to complain about the fact that she wasn’t allowed during the 2008 campaign to talk about Rev. Wright or Bill Ayers. She also complained regarding the media’s failure to cover relevant stories. That was one of the more stupid interviews she has ever given.

Roger Ailes has previously declared that Sarah Palin is a stupid idiot. We know he hired her because she was hot and got ratings. It appears that Sarah Palin may have embarrassed Fox News for the last time.
/ It’s been over one month since she has appeared on Fox. I made over 20 phone calls this morning to Fox, and nobody was willing to confirm whether Sarah Palin was still a contributor at Fox. If she is still associated with Fox, it appears they don’t want to claim her.

McCain: Putin’s Op-Ed Insults Americans’ Intelligence

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) reacted Thursday on Twitter to an op-ed written by Russian President Vladimir Putin and published in the New York Times, saying the column insulted Americans' intelligence.

Putin's op-ed referenced President Barack Obama's Tuesday address to the nation, in which the president said the United States' desire to prevent further use of chemical weapons in Syria is "what makes us exceptional."

"It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation," Putin wrote.

    http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/mccain-putins-op-ed-insults-americans-intelligence

    Boehner: ‘I Was Insulted’ By Putin’s Op-Ed

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said Thursday he was "insulted" by Russian President Vladimir Putin's op-ed in the New York Times where he continued to express opposition to military intervention in Syria while taking issue with the idea of "American exceptionalism."

Asked to elaborate by a reporter at a weekly press conference, Boehner declined.

"No, I think the president does foreign policy... I've already said more than I should have said. But you got the truth," he added.

The op-ed brought disparagement from both sides of the political aisle. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said the column insulted Americans' intelligence, while Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) said it nearly made him "vomit."

    http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/boehner-i-was-insulted-by-putins-op-ed

Menendez On Putin Op-Ed: ‘I Almost Wanted To Vomit’

When Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) first got an e-mail Wednesday night about an op-ed Russian President Vladimir Putin published in the New York Times, it nearly made him sick to his stomach at dinner.

"I almost wanted to vomit," Menendez told CNN. "I worry when someone who came up through the KGB tells us what is in our national interests, and what is not. It really raises the question of how serious the Russian proposal is."

Putin's op-ed challenged the idea of "American exceptionalism," referencing President Barack Obama's Tuesday address to the nation regarding Syria, to urge opposition to military intervention there.

Menendez added that the United States should follow through on negotiations with Russia aimed at getting Syria to place its chemical weapons under international control, saying "it would be foolish to slam the door on diplomacy."

Putin also made reference to President Barack Obama's nationally televised address on Tuesday night regarding the situation in Syria, rebutting Obama's assertion that America is a more "exceptional" nation than others.

'My working and personal relationship with President Obama is marked by growing trust. I appreciate this. I carefully studied his address to the nation on Tuesday. And I would rather disagree with a case he made on American exceptionalism, stating that the United States’ policy is “what makes America different. It’s what makes us exceptional.” It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation. There are big countries and small countries, rich and poor, those with long democratic traditions and those still finding their way to democracy. Their policies differ, too. We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.'

Pass the collection basket, Rev Poootin! Pootin preaching that God created us equal, with his track record especially on gay rights is laughable.

Someone's comment that I agree with:

'My initial thought to seeing this is perhaps Putin himself has now inadvertently motivated Americans to bomb Assad and kick Russia in the nuts, ie. the opposite of Putin's intent.

I went and read the whole letter, then read a bunch of comments to it, and I may be wrong in that. A lot of what I read in the comments was praising Putin for reaching out and blah, blah, blah. Not since W was re-elected have I been so ashamed of Americans. What a bunch of idiots. Praising Putin!

America is exceptional, same as every citizen of every other country feels his/her home country is exceptional. Its a mental trick humans use to maintain loyalty to something. That doesn't make us better than anyone else, it just makes us proud of our country.

I can give Putin credit for writing a nice letter, but really, fuck Putin. I fear his trick is working because to many Americans are just 'palin' dumb.

When I read what Putin wrote about American exceptionalism I took it he was cautioning about believing only one country is exceptional.

I found it ironic he chose Obama's use of the phrase in that speech. President Obama has been whipped by right wingers and baggers because he is aware and speaks to other counteries doing great things such as in education.

The KGB thug calling out the USA is like being called ugly by a frog, with apologies to the frog. Sad thing is that many anti-war zealots and the right wing Republicans are siding with Putin over the President of the United States. Sickening!

Trump won't take this challenge by Pootin sitting down... Go ahead, ask him for his birth certificate, Donald.

Although his nickname is common locally, Poot don't look like none of the other W.Virginians or KinFucky-ans. Plus, how did he get a dual-state birth cert.?Was his mama on her way to the Wal-mart on state-line road when he was born? (Hint: Walmart aint been 'round that long.)

It's not what Vladimir Putin's New York Times op-ed says that's so worrisome; it's what it doesn't say. As a Russian and as someone who has been to Syria multiple times since the beginning of the conflict to investigate war crimes and other violations, I would like to mention a few things Putin overlooked.

There is not a single mention in Putin's article, addressed to the American people, of the egregious crimes committed by the Syrian government and extensively documented by the UN Commission of Inquiry, local and international human rights groups, and numerous journalists: deliberate and indiscriminate killings of tens of thousands of civilians, executions, torture, enforced disappearances and arbitrary arrests. His op-ed also makes no mention of Russia's ongoing transfer of arms to Assad throughout the past two and a half years.

With Republicans falling over themselves to hug Putin while aiding Assad in his messaging, and Putin following Republicans lead to take digs at “American exceptionalism” when Obama says it, it’s hard to know who the “bad guys” are these days.

So we get this from the New York Times: “Obama: Weak or the anti-Bush?”

Republicans et al are elevating Putin in order to tend their bitter Obama wounds; thus, because Putin had an op-ed on the NYT in which he swaggered a lot (remarkably like another “dictator”, Bush — an accusation made by constitutional lawyers), Obama is “weak”. This is the conclusion of his usual detractors, and since many Republicans are saying it, it’s also become the takeaway and the trickle down beltway auto-looping narrative of the day.

It’s as if there is no more time. It’s all done now. The weapons are turned over and Putin delivered on his promise and we have proof that even though Obama was talking to him, this was really all Putin’s idea (even though Putin hasn’t exactly proven to be such a long term thinker).

Or, reality: This is the BEGINNING of very tense negotiations that may or may not even work, and Putin did what he had to do because it turns out that President Obama is not someone to cross when it really matters. See, Obama is not the fantasy liberal pacifist the right thinks he is, nor is he the war-monger the far left thinks he is. People can’t see that Obama’s opponents are often very loud, but rarely victorious. This is not a “weak” person. That is one of the more ignorant arguments I’ve ever heard lobbed at Obama.

And of course, presidents, no matter how well intentioned, can’t control events. They can only control their reaction to events.

So Obama said Syria’s use of chemical weapons merited a military strike and he pushed for it. He also delayed the push by “bringing it to Congress” when he didn’t have to, making it clear that he was serious about the military strikes and wanted everyone to start discussing it. Eventually we got around to the atrocities – the very reason for his proposal – and that led to condemning them once they were backed up with evidence. This put more pressure on Putin and Assad both.

In the meantime, Obama has been talking to Putin for the last year and specifically at the G20 about this issue.

Suddenly Putin is on board, and Putin credits himself as do the Republicans. The media isn’t far behind. All hail the mighty Putin, President of Democracy! Oh, wait. The Navalny verdict. Oh well, this is the kind of guy Republicans, the media and even the far left can get behind. He’s a decider! He saved us all. He’s the good guy, not our own President.

Pssst: If you are so invested in hating Obama that you can’t bring yourself to even question your growing allegiance to a known dictator, you are probably not thinking very clearly.

In Republican world, unless you kick the other person in the shin out of the blue, you’re weak. Republicans go for the most obvious and least effective (foreign policy wise) display of power – the bully, the cowboy, the gun, the smirk, the Mission Accomplished banner.

So it’s not their fault that Republicans don’t recognize real power, especially when it’s used against them. It’s just a shame that our media doesn’t bother to see the big picture and can’t keep up with this President. Then again, who would want a president so average that the media left him or her in the dark.

The olympics are in Russia, he's trying to polish his public image in advance, because they'd lose a huge infusion of money if the Olympics Committee decides to have the event elsewhere, or we have balls enough to stand up for equal rights.
