Ted Cruz believes that the Republicans could have won the fight to defund Obamacare if they had just been willing to accuse the Democrats of holding children with cancer hostage.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) says that Republicans could have won the fight to derail President Barack Obama’s health care law by shutting down the government if they had just accused the Democrats holding children with cancer “hostage.”

In an interview that aired on Sunday, CNN’s Dana Bash asked Cruz if he was bothered on a “human level” that so many colleagues in his own party were angry at him for instigating the shutdown.

“Not remotely,” Cruz insisted. “I work for 26 million Texans, that’s my job to fight for them. I don’t work for the party bosses in Washington… The reason people are frustrated all over the country is that far too many people get elected and they think they’re there to be part of the club.”

The Texas senator observed that things could have turned out differently if Senate Republicans had “marched into battle side by side” with House Republicans to defund Obamacare.

But Bash noted that Democrats had the successful strategy in the end.

Cruz, however, reminded Bash of an exchange she had with Senate Majority Harry Reid (D-NV) about a Republican plan to fund the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other selective parts of the government during the shutdown.

A controversy had erupted at the time when Bash asked Reid if it would be worth it if he could help “one child” with cancer.

During the interview that aired on Sunday, Cruz said that Reid showed Democrats were “vulnerable” and that Republicans should have used children with cancer as a pressure point to win the fight against health care reform.

“President Obama and the Democrats’ position throughout this is, ‘We will not negotiate, we will not compromise, shut it all down.’ That’s not a reasonable position,” he explained. “If Senate Republicans had united and supported House Republicans, if we had 46 Senate Republicans on television every day, in the media every day making the point, ‘Why won’t they fund the VA, why are they holding our veterans hostage? Why won’t they fund the NIH, why are they holding kids with illnesses hostage?’”

“That’s a fight we could win because their position was unreasonable.”

"Unreasonable?" It might be worthwhile to point out here that those children are now receiving those services denied to them by the government shutdown. As are the veterans. While police are also now being paid, national parks are being opened, and the government is back up and running. And instead of picking and choosing who is worthy of receiving assistance or their paychecks, and who is not, the government is simply now able to do its job.

All of its jobs.

THAT was what the Democrats were fighting for. That and taking the power away from a handful of domestic terrorists who wanted to hold, not just cancer stricken children, but the entire country hostage.

And do you know what? Now that the Tea-borg has failed to beat the President they have turned their anger toward those who have not yet been absorbed into the collective.

This from Politico:

Hard-line conservatives aren’t just sticking it to the national GOP by shutting down the government and bringing the nation to the brink of default — they’re also refusing to pony up to help their party defend the House in 2014.

With a little more than a year until the midterm election, many leaders of the shutdown strategy have yet to donate to the National Republican Congressional Committee, records show. At least eight of the debate’s 20 or so most outspoken figures have not given any money to the NRCC, and others have forked over token amounts.

Their refusal to contribute to the House GOP’s political arm, coming as Republicans are getting thumped by Democrats in the money race, is causing heartburn and frustration among Republican strategists charged with laying the groundwork for next year’s races. They say it is reinforcing a perception of the conservative gang that they’re out only for themselves and don’t much care about advancing the party’s larger cause.

Yes, they are eating their own now.

So for those who thought that Palin's crazed diatribe against the Republican party yesterday, meant that she had gone all "mavericky," and was not longer taking orders from the Koch brothers and Heritage Foundation, it appears such is not the case.

She is simply among those GOP insurgents who are determined to either completely reshape the Republican party or destroy it from within.

There is a part of me that simply wants to sit back and watch the fun, but then I imagine a GOP run by the likes of Ted Cruz, a man who would have gladly used cancer stricken children as pawns in a power play against the Democrats, and I realize I really do have a dog in this fight.

And it is a dog that might be willing to live in harmony with others, NOT a rabid cur growling and snapping at everything, and everyone, who approaches, and is not similarly afflicted with their sickness.

Odds are, kids with cancer will hit their lifetime cap, which ObamaCare no longer takes into coniseration

There is no lifetime cap, that's one of the biggest difference between the ACA and insurance as it exists today. Try again.

11:14.. I so agree with you! Sarah is a buffoon and her power is meager. Cruz held congress and the world hostage. Now the lying MF denies it and blames in on our President and Harry Reed. He lies like she does. He is truly dangerous. Look what he has done and threatens to do again in January. I would say he transcends sociopath and is a psychopath. He scares me.

This guy is really a sociopath. I cannot believe someone married and had children with him (then again, she's a VP at Goldman Sach's and worked in Dubya's cabinet, so...).

McCain doesn't agree w/Cruz, so we can be sure he doesn't w/Palin too! But, he'll never admit the latter!!!

Remember what he said prior to his speech when he lost to President Obama? He told Palin not to follow Rush Limbaugh!!
She'd didn't follow his instructions and is now known as the idiot VP candidate that McCain and his crowd selected!! Oooops!!

They are so delusional, these Sarah Palin loser candidates. This guy says he lost because of the shutdown, and he was completely on board with the shut down...HUH? What a whiny victim this guy is, and NJ and the rest of us are damn lucky he DID lose, but we can thank Mrs. Palin for some of that.

It's disgusting how he says HE was the biggest 'casualty' of the shutdown. REALLY? Not the kids, the seniors, the vets? Not the AMERICAN PEOPLE? What a colossal DICK HEAD. He was never gonna win, and instead of being gracious and accepting defeat, he's spinning this bullshit:
    ---
Though Republican Steve Lonegan publicly supported the shutdown of the federal government during his campaign for U.S. Senate, the conservative former mayor said the timing of it crushed his chance at victory.

"There is no doubt in my mind or in the minds of any of my campaign staff that the shutdown cost me the election," Lonegan said in a post-mortem interview today. "If I had known it was going to happen and that it was going to be handled so badly in Washington, I wouldn't have run for senate."

Lonegan said the momentum in the race was on his side prior to Oct. 1 and polls showed him making up ground on what was thought to be an insurmountable 35 point lead enjoyed by his opponent, Democrat Cory Booker.

A Sept. 24 Quinnipiac poll put Lonegan 12 points behind and a Sept. 30 Monmouth University poll showed him down by 13. He would eventually lose the race by 11.

But those polls don't tell the whole story, Lonegan said.

...So why did he publicly say he supported it and even that he would have sided with the faction of the party that pushed for it?

"I had no choice," he said. "You either have to attack your party or be a team player. I was a team player."

But not everyone shares Lonegan's assessment of his chances. Monmouth University pollster Patrick Murray, who conducted several polls throughout the campaign and predicted the final result within a point, said Lonegan was never moving that fast.

"He was down 16 in August and 13 in September, a day before the shutdown," he said. "I'm not sure what kind of momentum that represents. Maybe if the race had been held in March he might have been able to catch up. It was never closing that fast."

As for the fallout from the election and the shutdown, Lonegan said Republicans missed a huge opportunity.

"Republicans had a chance to win a U.S. Senate seat and in the process send a powerful message to Obama and instead they shut down government with no message and no game plan," he said. "I was probably the single biggest casualty of their mistake."

    1. Lonegan never had a prayer, but the GOP had to stick someone in there. It was never even close, and the RSC didn't sweat it and throw a lot of money in there. The TeaBaggers are welcome to piss away the entire Koch fortune on these losers. They cannot even pretend anymore that the TeaBaggers are a grass-roots type campaign.

Lonegan's claim of a *surge* is comparable to the other idiot, Sarah Palin, telling Oprah that she really believed that she could've beaten President Obama. lol. Sure SHE believed that, but no one with a nickel in their pocket believed that bullshit. She's a loser, and while she might've bet on a couple of winners who were ahead in their races far enough that even SHE couldn't sabotage, she is a drag on any candidate other than a gerrymandered district with 75% GOP. Whatever Palin says, bet the opposite and you'll be right 90% of the time. But don't try to convince her that she's wrong. That would be like trying to explain to her that Beefy is no longer a virgin. She won't believe it, but it's the truth.

You do know that by comparing Rafael Teddy to Tom Cruise you are opening a big can of sexual identity issues right? I mean, I appreciate those of any and all sexuality but Teddy's wide hips, narrow shoulders and high voice are enough to validate his sexual preference without you comparing him to Tommy Boy Cruise.

Maybe next time you should brush up on your pop culture references before comparing your hero to a gay man, unless that doesn't really matter to you, which I'd have a difficult time believing.

Ted Cruz was proposing a line-item veto. The Supreme Court just recently held this to be unconstitutional.
    Some states allow it.
The Confederacy allowed it, but Jefferson Davis never used it.

Basically, if Cruz really wanted a President to be able to pick and choose what legislation would be funded, or vice versa, there would be no government at all, but a permanent stand-off.

That's what he created by closing down the entire government and then saying he'd hand-pick which parts he'd open again. What he did was illegal.

A smaller donors' pool is good news for the Kochs. Gives them a higher percentage of funding, ergo more control.

  11. The idiot Canuck Cruz better ask someone who knows instead of trusting what he *believes*. Apparently, he also believes Sarah Palin is a political asset instead of a liability, so it's becoming more likely he will continue to enjoy another 5 years of obsolescence. Millions of Texans are ashamed of him already, and in five years, he'll be a one-and-done senator, just like Frothy Mix Santorum, and regarded just as lowly.

Palin is playing both sides of the fence. She tried to do that as Gov here in AK but it came back to bite her in the ass from BOTH sides of the fence. She famously touted "hold me accountable" (keep me honest, keep me ethical. blah, blah, all the while being very Unethical and using her elected position of power as a sort of "Thor's Hammer" against anyone that had ever slighted her or spoke out against her). The Progressives and even some Republicans called her out for her ethics transgressions and abuse of power but it was those "old boys" whose corporate taxes she raised and whose club she bragged about "breakin' up" who really forced her to resign. They were just happy to use the ethics charges filed by others as a smokescreen for the REAL reason she was driven from office.

She never followed the party line and Big Oil got Very Unhappy with Her and realized that her Lite Gov was much more of a team player and if Mrs. Palin resigned they'd get one of their lackies in charge of the next Legislative session AND he'd be eligible for two more actual terms of his own. Suffice it to say, the Old Boys cut their losses and forced her hand. I'd love to know what they threatened to spill to get her to resign, but with so many indiscretions and lies: a questionable maternity, and the fact that her performance on McCain's campaign finally showed everyone how dumb she is, there were a multitude of things that could have been used to make Mrs. Palin resign in a breathless, unbelievable mess of a speech.

She never learns. The Country Club Republicans are only going to treat the Tea Party rabble rousers with kid gloves until they realize it affects both the strength of the party and their electability. Then all bets are off. Wonder what Mrs. Palin will have to be threatened with this time in order to get her to shut up?

She's just a very loud and very stupid TeaBagger Cheerleader, but Cruz, as an elected official, will need to be "led to the light" by his superiors or he too will find himself out of a job forced to write second-rate "autobiographies" in order to make a living. He's probably smart enough to acquiesce to the desires of his true political masters, but Palin, who knows what's going to come out of the closet in order to muzzle her!

Total Disconnect and Totally Disgusting. Did anyone else think: But won't those cancer patients (and their families) fair much better with Obamacare taking over the bills instead of
    1) maxing out their insurance, or
2)wiping out all their savings, including home equity and pensions, or
    3) depending on social services and write-offs by hospitals, which EVERYONE on insurance pay for with higher costs or
    4) just not having the care they need because they can't afford it, or don't get it soon enough to catch the cancer early where treatment is often 100 percent successful?

I rambled on but I'm am SOOOO angry at these anti-Affordable Care people, most of whom have insurance, trying to block those of us who don't have insurance from getting it.

These guys are hysterical! They REFUSE to learn ANYTHING from experience. Remember when they had that "autopsy" done on the last election? Their response was: "the problem is that Romney wasn't conservative enough."

And now, after the total image beatdown they took from the shutdown, they come away with: "the problem is that we weren't sleazy/douchebaggy enough".

Yeah Cruz, I seriously want you to try the "accuse Democrats of murdering cancer babies" tactic next time. I'm sure it'll go wonderfully alongside your "it's unfortunate that this administration has resorted to name calling/why can't we just be respectful" blather. I'm certain it'll hardly seem sociopathic at all! Cruz 2016! LOL

An hour or so ago MSNBC started out with a hysterically-toned announcement about the terrible problems with the rollout of the ACA. Of course what no one is thinking of is how so many states have obstructed the implementation of the program and how difficult it must have been to begin the rollout during the GOP shutdown of the federal government.

We have a relative in Washington, DC, who has been working seven days a week now, including during the shutdown, to facilitate the rollout. I think she and her colleagues are doing an amazing job, given the roadblocks along their way by the GOP at both state and federal levels.

The repugs and Faux have their panties twisted in knots over the website and the ACA, after they held the government hostage and caused us big money for their teactrics, all of a sudden they care for the suffering of one kid with cancer.
They only care for "What's in it for me", not the folks in their states nor fellow americans.

    Cruz is a textbook megalomaniac.
" A condition or mental illness that causes people to think that they have great or unlimited power or importance.."
" A mania for great or grandiose performance ."
" A delusional mental disorder that is marked by feelings of personal omnipotence and grandeur ."

" Cruz insisted. “I work for 26 million Texans.."
Cruz does not represent the 26 million people of Texas.
He was elected with 4 million votes.
When he did his self aggrandizing sillybuster ,
he began by saying he was speaking
    for 350 million Americans.
His sick and grandiose thinking is very disturbing.
Palin is an idiot , a mere court jester on FOX.
But, Cruz is dangerous because of his obvious mental pathology and the fact that because he's a Senator ,
he can single handily wreak great havoc on the country
as he did with the shutdown
and threatened to do with default.
Unfortunately, Texas does not have a mechanism for recalling a Senator so the 22 million Texans who did not elect this guy
are stuck for the next 5 years with a crazy person as one of their 2 Senators.
Rick Perry is everywhere trying to lure business to Texas and it can't help the Texas business community with Cruz , the new face of Texas ,
acting like Jack Nicholson in The Shining.
For the record, Perry did not support Cruz in the primary , he supported Dewhurst.
In fact, Perry traveling in Israel to drum up business for Texas called Cruz's shutdown
nothing more than " political theater ".
Perry noted that no government officials in either London or Israel even mentioned Cruz.
"No one has come up to me and even said the word 'Cruz' -- no, not once did I hear that," Perry said.
I'm sure the Palin Cruz nuts will be burning up the phone lines at at Perry's office with their
usual hate filled rage and threats.
