Yeah, can't have any more inspirational and competent leaders like this. Now can we? |
A teacher in Ohio was suspended this week for allegedly telling an ambitious young African-American student that the country does “not need another black president.”
According to The Cincinnati Enquirer, Gil Voigt was suspended without pay from Fairfield Freshman School on Monday, the first step necessary for termination. The teacher has 10 days to ask to for a hearing before the school board or a referee.
Superintendent Paul Otten told the Journal-News that the incident occurred while Voigt was speaking to an African-American student who had presidential aspirations.
“We do not need another black president,” Voigt reportedly said.
“He was talking to some students and said some things that were racially insensitive,” Fairfield City Schools Board President Dan Murray explained. “We take diversity in our school district very seriously with tolerance of people who are different. We just felt this teacher had crossed the line.”
Voigt has also received four other reprimands in recent years, including one for an “inappropriate racial comment” in 2008.
But hey remember, these Right Wing douchebags do not hate the President becasue of his ethnicity, they hate him for his policies. Isn't that what they are always telling us?
I love it when we get to see the face behind the white hood.
They can't even be honest about it............
ReplyDeleteRacism exists in the classroom, in the workplace, in the mall, at the barber shop and nail salon. It's alive and well, make no mistake.
ReplyDeleteO/T but thought you might be interested as an educator, Gryphen:

The Constitution does not say anything about race. The President has to be 35 years old and a natural born citizen.
ReplyDeleteHow is a black American kid "different?" Seriously. He's just a regular kid at an American school that his parents, our parents, we ourselves pay tax dollars toward to run. And this teacher deserves to be fired. Take his hard earned dollars and tell him to sit down and shut up. Sarah and Bristol will have his back shortly.
ReplyDeleteI teach with Gil. Apparently the comments he made were taken out of context, but it doesn't make them right. He is a nice guy, but makes the mistake of not ever thinking he is wrong or blames others for his faults. They have wanted him out for a while. He finally made it easy for them.
ReplyDeleteTaken out of context? Really! Apparently? Really! You teach with him? Really! Unlikely? Really unlikely!
DeleteThanks for "the rest of the story" I like my racist assclowns to come off as nice, salt of the earth type "nice" folks whose words get taken out of context all the time.
DeleteWhy have "they" wanted him out for a while?
Were his racist comments in 2008 in the classroom also "taken out of context"? If you don't think he is racist you just must be another one.
DeleteWas he taken out of context the FOUR other times he was reprimanded for the exact same thing?
DeleteI'm a teacher. Once, even twice it could be a misinterpretation. FIVE times is not.
Gil doesn't belong in the classroom. He doesn't belong in any school setting in any capacity whatsoever.
He's not a nice guy.
DeleteGil probably prefers white slave-owning presidents.
DeleteInteresting. Some gun-nuts were defending the latest Colorado shooter, who went on a murderous rampage...after being suspended for threatening to kill a teacher. This African-American student didn't shoot up the school after being told he wasn't good enough to be president.
ReplyDeleteI just cannot stand this argument any longer. PLEASE do good to one another, look out for one another, pass it forward in the new year.
ReplyDeleteEnough of the DD crew, enough of the Palins, enough of the trolls, enough of a do-nothing Congress, enough of the ACA fight, enough of same sex marriage, enough of FAUX news. I cannot stand hatred any lonrer.
Forget the racist assclown teacher who deserves to lose his job and be blacklisted from working with kids till the day he dies. Think of this student, who's inquisitive nature and right to learn has been harmed. This isn't something to be easily overlooked. We finally have an African American President who's been an excellent role model for all kids, especially african American kids. And with this idiot in a role of authority telling this child "America", HIS country, doesn't need another black president. this child now feels he's a second class citizen, that it's no longer possible for someone like him, a citizen, to become president, regardless of his meeting the criteria.
ReplyDeleteTo borrow a phrase, "I want MY country back". Put all these racist asshats in a boat and send them off to Gitmo. This indoctrination has no place in public education, and no place near our kids, anywhere in our country.
I can understand this guy being a teacher and making racist comments. In 2008, my last year in the classroom before retirement, after Barack Obama won the presidency, the people in my school who I thought were fair-minded showed their true colors. As a Person of Color who thought these folks accepted me, It was one of the most painful things for me to witness. It was like getting sucker punched in the gut. I knew the day after Obama won that they'd only been tolerating me and the other POC who worked there. I also knew that their pretense at being my friend was only a facade. What also hurt was that these were people who always talked about how much time they spent in church and what new Christian author's book they were reading. I've never been so glad that my daughter persuaded me to make the 2008-2009 school year my last year in the classroom because I really don't think I could have spent another year in the presence of those fakes.
ReplyDeleteIf they were comparing who spent more time at church or what CHRISTIAN author's book they were reading, I'd say that was a huge red flag right there.
DeleteThank you for your years of service.
I'll be retiring June 2015 after 36 years.
Most people tolerate people of color, especially black people. As long as you stay to yourself, don't make waves, and don't assemble in groups of 2 or 3, most white people are fine. But as soon as you're visible, accomplishing things, and aspiring to great heights, watch out. That's when the stand your ground laws, voting rights revisions, and other changes occur.
DeleteRacist counters need to be brought more to the front of the line - just like the supposed Christians are pushing their god on all of us! I just received a nasty anti Michelle Obama email tonight that ticked me off!
ReplyDeleteIt came from a southern resident, so guess it should be expected. But, they are very religious and tout their god all the time!. So, I countered them. I'm not keeping my mouth shut anymore! It's time we stand up folks! Just like the supposed Christians that are shoving god down our throats!
Well we certainly don't need any teachers or Presidents like his ass.
ReplyDeleteHad that happened to the school where my grandchildren go, I would personally go to the next school board meeting and suggest very strongly that that teacher be escorted off of school property immediately and irrevocably.
ReplyDeleteIn his capacity as a government employee he isn't simply a citizen voicing his free-speech rights:
he is a TEACHER.
"Yes, young lady/young man. We rill Americans prefer to elect incompetent white presidents."
