Sarah Palin compares registering military style weapons to Colonists being asked to register their single shot, muzzle-loaded, muskets. Oh yeah, so similar.

So the above graphic is currently posted over at the Facebook home of the addle-brained albatross from Arizona.

There is in fact so much stupid about this that I hardly know where to start.

Should I start with the fact that an AR-15 can fire 700 rounds per minute, while a musket can fire only.....one? (Okay maybe two if you are Fess Parker.)

Or that the Colonial army was fighting for the right to form a government that would represent their interests, and create laws to protect them from the kinds of people who might someday want to own an arsenal of weapons which could include a 700 round per minute firing AR-15?

Or that in colonial times long rifles were the only weapons owned by the majority of Americans and these were not something easily concealed or used to mug pedestrians on the street?

I can tell you with some certainty that if the Founding Fathers had been dealing with a reality which included the possibility of the average citizen owning hundreds of automatic weapons, grenade launchers, and easily concealed handguns, they would have dramatically tightened up that language in the 2nd Amendment. Or possibly done away with it altogether.

By the way the inspiration for this post was nothing more than the opportunity to pimp  Brancy's post from the other day, about the Connecticut gun owners refusal to register their military style weapons, that I already ridiculed here.

My assumption is that with the SarahPAC funds running low there is only so much money available for ghostwriters. So instead of having two separate Facebook posts written, this way they can have one and then share it.

They're wasting their time really, I think that at this point everybody recognizes that the Palins as a unit are against ANY laws which might protect citizens from having bits of their body shot off, believe that the 2nd Amendment was written by Jesus while riding a dinosaur, and that anybody who introduces any gun legislation is probably an America hating communist Nazi.

Or something like that.

Brisket is nearly as idiotically entertaining as her mother:

First we thought, “is Bristol Palin’s ghostwriter talking about being stricken by gout?” Then we wondered about this “old saying,” but Snipy looked it up, and it is indeed a saying, if someone saying it in 1896 and then someone repeating it in a 2011 bloggy post makes it a “saying,” which, of course it does.

Yeah, Broccoli, sex and Lunesta with a nyquill chaser was one of the recipes in the now defunct idea of a "Palin Fitness" book.

  4. All President Obama has to do is come out against any gun registration, background checks, etc. - an AR-15 for everyone - and the boneheads will turn 180 degrees. Simpletons.

I wonder how the Palin's would react if a member of their family was murdered by a gun? God forbid. Would they still be vocal 2nd amendment supporters?.

Sadly, with the number of weapons owned by them and the crazy grandparents, it will not surprise me when one of the little ones happens upon a gun and shoots someone. Doesn't Sarah keep a rifle under her bed or somewhere safe like that? (Safe from Todd maybe!)

They would set up a memorial foundation to grift more money from their fans.

That would probably depend on whether or not that relative was on Sarah's "-hit list".

I kind of think the "rifle under the bed" thing was just a ruse to get Levi into her bedroom.

We HAVE gun control. We have laws about concealed weapons. We have laws about firing guns in residential areas etc.

We need better ways to keep guns out of the hands of mentally dangerous people. And we need IDIOTS that bleat "gun control" to stop whining and offer solutions, not just clutch their penis extenders and pretend there's no problems when dead kindergarten bodies pile up in Newtown.

      Yeah right, 4:02.

The majority of Americans support reasonable gun control. People who don't wouldn't vote for a Democrat in the first place.

And while we shouldn't rest on our laurels, the Republicans are currently looking more like the Keystone Cops than a political party these days.

5:13- obviously forcing law abiding citizens to be subject to having to register their firearms as a knee jerk reaction to Sandy Hook is not the answer, as it is estimated that only 15% have complied. And why should they? They did not cause Sandy Hook, a young mentaly deranged man did.... how is forcing decent law abiding citizens to register firearms going to stop that? Truly, please answer that question. Just because a gun is registered doesnt mean it will stop a mentaly deranged person. The only way to stop gun violence is total disarmament- if that is even possible. But the first ones to be disarmed, if it were tried, would be all the law abiding citizens registered, and they all know it.

BTW Gryphen also is either willfully ignorant or truly ignorant as to the capabilities of the 'military style' weapons, as civilian models have completely different inner workings and are semi-auto, not fully auto- and you could never pump out 700 rounds per minute. really, most are pieces of crap anyways and i really dont know why anyone would want one anyways over a decent hunting rifle.

Not everyone who owns a gun is against registering their guns. My husband has many guns and thinks it's ridiculous that there is no law about registering them. In fact, he is horrified by the NRA and most of the gun nuts out there. Neither of us would ever vote for a politician who spouts the 2nd amendment like it's some holy mantra.

Why would they register their guns? Why not? But an important why is that if you have a left and can get compensated by your home owners policy for those weapons.

Sounds like you a responsible gun owner. You obviously have a plan so that someone will take your guns away should you become mentally incapable. You do realize that brain damage through an accident, strange reaction to a medication, diminished anger management, dementia, etc. can happen to all of us. So, of course, you accept regular questioning from someone you trust to make sure it's still safe for you to keep and store guns in your home.

      Right? Right?

7:14 - yes there is a plan as to who takes possession should anything ever happen to me. Regular questioning? No, I think you might be a little nuts though for suggesting such a thing. Really that is ridiculous.

  9. James Madison, founding father and writer of 2nd amendment DID require a federal gun registry! Federal inspections in their home and required musters too! Of course Palin is ignorant of her history.

Add to this her Fa moose Philly story of Paul Revere as a history lesson in the cradle of liberty, and her Fa moose fable of sitting up straight in bed, shaking Todd awake because "something was going on down there", calling her doctor and staying in Texas for an energy speech, boarding a plane, landing in Alaska and giving birth either in Anchorage or Mat Su, depending on which story you choose to beleve, they all came out of the same orifice!

Muzzle loaders are not considered firearms under US law. They aren't overseen by the ATF, there is no background check, there are no laws about who they can be sold to. The gun shop I worked at refused to sell them to people under 18, but I'm not sure if that's a law or was just store policy.
