Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey

Esquire takes a long peek at the goings on at the Cliven Bundy ranch that Fox News and the Right Wing are desperate for you not to see.
Courtesy of Esquire:
At the Bundy camp last week, pundits and politicians descended on Bunkerville, Nevada, to throw in their American flag hats with the BLM protestors. A FOX news van had been parked by the side of the road for days. Up on the ridge, militia snipers kept a trained watch as Bundy held court, and disciples from far and wide came to share their personal theories as to why the government was enforcing a court order.
But on Thursday, we witnessed a mainstream exodus from Bundy’s flank. Sean Hannity, Bundy’s biggest booster, called his racist remarks “beyond despicable,” but maintained that they should not taint the supporters who “for the right reasons saw this case as government overreach.”
Exactly how difficult was it, though, to determine pretty early on that Bundy and his followers were using the threat of force to back up some terrifyingly misguided beliefs?
During the few hours I visited last week, this was what was said.
Some of the things the Esquire reporter saw almost defies description, but here is a taste.
Openly discussed racism:
It’s dizzying and hot at the camp, and a very friendly man named Roy, wearing an Obama t-shirt with a joker smile painted on, hands me a cold bottle. He's from nearby Mesquite and has been a close friend and supporter of Bundy's these last few years. When I tell him I’m from New Mexico, the former cop says he has a very good buddy who used to work as a sheriff in my area.
“He got in a bit of trouble,” he chuckles. “He pulled over a carload of illegals one night, didn’t have room to haul ‘em all, so he put a chain around their neck and put a padlock through it, went to the next one, then he chained ‘em to a tree!”
He buckles with laughter as the story heats up. “Then he left ‘em and went to town to get his pickup to haul ‘em all back in. So, you might imagine, that didn’t play well — ha! You’re a young’un, but everything wasn’t against the law, way back when.”
Cliven Bundy religious prophet:
The crowd, fresh off their victory at the Battle of Bunkerville, gives Bundy a standing ovation. But he doesn’t seem pleased. He reproaches the crowd for failing to follow the word of God – to the letter – which he says is being delivered through him. They failed, for example, to follow his instructions to tear down the toll booths at Lake Mead and disarm the Park Service.
"The message I gave to you all was a revelation that I received. And yet not one of you can seem to even quote it.”
Cliven continues, sermon-like: "The records of our bible — how long have they been kept? Thousands of years. They’ve been turned over generation after generation, buried, and all kinds of things happen to ‘em. And yet, here, something I felt was inspired [by God] and yet we haven’t even carried it forth for even a couple of days. Shame on us.” Smattering of clapping.
He goes on to explain that, although they managed to deter the BLM, they failed to do it "within one hour," as the revelation had prophesied. So when an hour passes, he decides to get in his bulldozer and march on the BLM himself. The dozer gets stuck in the mud and he receives another revelation.
“It come to my mind real plain — the good Lord said, ‘Bundy, it’s not your job, it’s THEIR job.’ So we come back over here and heard that they had brought some cattle back. So I want you to understand,” addressing the crowd, "This is not my job, it’s YOUR job.
Wingnuts of all shapes and sizes:
Clearly the longer that any sensible person spends around Bundy and his group of radicals, the more clear it becomes that his ranch has become a kind of gathering place for all of the Alex Jones conspiracy theorists (Yesterday they went after Glenn Beck), angry racists, and trigger happy sovereign citizens types that were within walking, driving, or hitchhiking range.
If the BLM were smart they would simply sit back and let this powder keg smolder a little longer, because I think it is only a matter of time before these lunatics get bored and start looking around the ranch for someone to take their inner range out on.
Things could get mighty interesting in old Bunkerville before too long.
In the meantime, at least the citizens of Nevada know where all he crazy people are hanging out.

If you trust Esquire, I've got some magic beans for you.
ReplyDeleteWe saw how unscrupulous Rolling Stone is. E is worse
Killing the messenger is a cheap trick to deflect the message. Sorry troll, you're busted.
DeleteRight. Good luck with that.
DeleteYea right 2:38 p.m.! Many of us happen to enjoy the articles in Rolling Stone and Esquire...many have been truthful. Support your statement with proof!
DeleteSo you're saying the reporter was never there? Golly, the only 'journalists' I know who lie and use outdated footage as new and blame the other party when they get caught are on Fox.
DeleteSarah and Todd trusted Esquire enough to grant them several extended interviews. If Esquire is good enough for Sarah, it's good enough for me.
DeleteRolling Stone is unscrupulous??? somebody's knickers are twisted.
Delete3:43 Ba da bing, ba da boom
DeleteThank you, random internet person, for stepping up to defend Cliven Bundy, a free-loading racist who doesn't believe in the United States of America.
DeleteWhy would Esquire want to interview Palin, except for entertainment value. Nothing of substance would come out of her mouth.
DeleteBundy is going to get tired of supporting the free-loaders that have started camping at his homeplace; let's see how long it takes him to start heavily hinting that they should start paying for their own food, and then how long it'll take for the militia to disperse!
ReplyDeleteAnd it just keeps getting better. What a whack job this guy is . I am sure Palin loves him.
ReplyDeleteBet on it. But now that BFF Sean has disavowed him, Sarah will not go near the place. But I'm sure she admires his ability to draw crowds and have them hang on his every despicable word.
DeleteShe is having a tantrum right now, stamping her naughty monkeys and petulantly shouting, "Why doesn't the militia show up and defend ME!?! Where's MY protective sniper detail?!?
DeleteThis is very bad news. She is a rabid one.
ReplyDeleteMia Love Clinches GOP Nomination for Congress

Mia Love, a Mormon convert and former flight attendant, was an anchor baby whose family was in the US on a tourist visa from Haiti when she was born. Here's another example of a TeaBagger who says do as we say, not as we do. She's another fundie nutcase.
DeleteCloven Bundy will feed his homies with loaves and fishes.
ReplyDeleteSo why is no one asking the question: Who is paying these dipshits? Don't they have rent, mortgages, car payments, etc. wherever they came from? Media Matters has a compelling argument for who that might be: http://mediamatters.org/blog/2014/04/25/the-money-behind-foxs-promotion-of-cliven-bundy/199034
ReplyDeleteA lot of them appear to be "suckin' on the gov't teat" of social security/ssID and Medicare/Medicaid.
DeleteI saw on a national news article the other day that we have a fellow Wasillan named Justin Giles participating in the militia activities. None of our local news has covered this....gee, I wonder why. I guess we have enough embarrassment to last a lifetime from being known as the Palin's adopted home town.
DeleteWhat a screwed up bunch of people in Nevada. (Know they are on the fringe and can hardly wait for them to begin eating each other!) Lunatics!!!
ReplyDeleteCrazy Train.... Now departing
ReplyDeleteAnd you can count on the NRA to stoke those fires...
ReplyDeleteAt the NRA’s annual convention on Saturday, Wayne LaPierre unveiled a new ad the group is planning to air on TV and boy, is it a doozy. The ad is very evocative of a movie trailer for some inspirational drama, complete with b-roll of average Americans and sweeping, dramatic music to convey a simple message: it’s us against the world now. Who’s with the good guys?
The people featured in the ad declare things like “You are surrounded by a world where mad men are famous and good ones forgotten” and “‘The good guys are a lie,’ they laugh. Everyone’s corrupted.” It stakes out a clear position that there are “good guys” in the world fighting against the “hypocrites, chameleons, bullies, and yes-men.”
After showing the ad, LaPierre declares, “Ours is a national movement. Right now it’s sweeping the country in homes, in churches, in coffee houses, in PTA meetings.”

Truth Be Told: The Real Reason Behind Sean Hannity’s Obsession with Cliven Bundy

This Is Republican America: Man Causes Panic With Gun At Kids’ Baseball Game
A man in Georgia caused a panic by menacing people at a children’s baseball game with a gun that he was carrying. The sick thing is that it was all legal.

“It come to my mind real plain — the good Lord said, ‘Bundy, it’s not your job, it’s THEIR job.’"
ReplyDeleteDon't you love how Bundy receives God's instruction for others, including the sheriff, and gets to pass on the divine, righteous mission.
Mighty convenient for Bundy, I'd say.
Pure insanity.
DeleteI've said this before in previous post. The driving force behind Bundy is his Fundamental Mormon Faith. Next we will discover that he has more than one wife. One wife he is legally married to, others he has been sealed by one of the Prophets. Mormon men talk directly with God. God gives them revelations which they, the Prophet must act on. Good for Esquire to finally start to pull away at the layers of the onion. Bundy probably follows Warren Jeffs, who issues his doctrines from a federal prison. You would never know you have a flea problem until you pet the dog. The Mormon Church must be cringing about now. Their warts are showing.
DeleteDid god tell this old racist fool to get his dozer stuck in the mud? Bundy's god is bored with his bullshit already, and decided to break the monotony of his racist lectures by fucking with him a little bit, just for shits and giggles: "Hey Cloven, tell everybody that I told you to show em how you can drive your dozer... Wait, not in the mud, you dumbass! You're on your own now, idiot. Never mind. lol"
Delete5:02 I couldn't agree with you more. I've tried to follow Bundy's history: born in Colorado City, AZ; his family moved to Bunkerville, NV; all originally from Utah but migrated out because Utah and the Mormons outlawed polygamy and or because the Federal government was chasing them because of polygamy; Warren Jeffs is controlling the main FLDS movement in Colorado City, AZ, from his cell in prison and his "messages directly from God" are getting crazier and crazier; Jeffs owned "construction companies" in Mesquite, NV; Sheriff Richard Mack is FLDS, made an early appearance during the Bundy mess. Bundy's messages directly from god sounds like Jeffs. I'm with you that we'll eventually find out Bundy has multiple wives. IMO, Glenn Beck's denouncement of Bundy had as much to do with FLDS' and regular Mormons' mutual animosity as it had to due with Beck's professed "research" that "...10% to 15% of Bundy's followers just were in it because they were anxious to start shooting".
DeleteColorado City, AZ and Hildale, Utah, were originally the polygamist settlement of Short Creek. The largest polygamist raid in history was held at Short Creek in 1953 and the two towns were renamed Colorado City, AZ and Hildale, UT. (The history of the FLDS movement is confusing!)
I know that I have a rambling bunch of reasons to connect Bundy to Jeffs and the FLDS but at the very least we've got a lot learn about Cliven Bundy.
Typical Mormon prophet wannabee, just like the actual president of the LDS church. Any time they need to alter their beliefs, they get a revelation and BINGO, they can change!
DeleteGood work 2:35. Raised in Colorado city assures he was the spawn of Polygamists. It also affirms my thoughts that Bundy is connected to Warren Jeffs. If he did not follow Jeffs he would be Apostate. If only a member of his extended family would spill the beans on the senile pervert.
DeleteThat's one of the FLDS AZ, NV, UT hide in the desert sanctuaries. The better question would be to ask Dean Heller, John McCain and Mike Lee just what they intend to do about protecting the children of these polygamous cults. Religious freedom does not grant exclusion from laws regarding child rape. What these gun nuts are doing to the rule of law, grazing and cattle pales in comparison to their lawless assaults on women and children.
ReplyDeleteEvery so often, the Federal Government is forced to take action against Fundamental Mormons. For the most part their polygamy, incest, child abuse, spousal abuse, statutory rape, go ignored. That is until one of these pompous ass Prophets can't keep his mouth shut, or one of the children or wives jump the reservation and charges are filed. Bundy may have just crossed that line. Grazing cattle might be just the excuse to investigate what else he might be involved in. Polygamy? Sex with underage girls? These Fundamental types, like the Duck Dynasty patriarch, like 'em around 12 or 13 years old.
DeleteIt's kind of funny that every person who's "fake friends" with Sunny calls others stalkers .Um, You're the one imagining friendships with little girls you've never met.
ReplyDeleteTHAT is creepy
Excuse me, could you please repeat that in English? To be terrific, you must be specific as an annoying teacher once told me.
DeleteYou are the creepy one here. Why are you babbling about something completely unrelated to this post?
DeleteEew. Get help, sicko.
I caught the tail end of a radio interview with someone from the town of Mesquite, NV (5 miles from Bunkerville) who was complaining about all the Bundy people from out of state ruining the place and making citizens afraid to go out. I was working but wish I had of written down the station & who was being interviewed. Bunkerville's local newspaper is Mesquite Local News where I found this letter to the editor:
ReplyDeleteBundy has damaged the community
To the Editor:
It was with a heavy heart that I watched the events that transpired in Bunkerville and Gold Butte during the last several weeks. Like Mr. Bundy, I
too have lived, worked and played in Southern Nevada all my life. The use of the Gold Butte resources are just as important to me as they are to Mr. Bundy. Like him, that is my land too.
For many years, I have watched this confrontation develop and I have yet to understand what “civil rights” of Mr. Bundy’s have been violated. I understand that the BLM in not totally blameless in this predicament; that they often times have not taken the desires of the local citizens into consideration when they have made decision on how to manage our lands in Nevada.
But Mr. Bundy’s blatant disregard of the rule of law causes me great concern. What if all our citizens took his attitude about whether to obey laws or not?
It was very disconcerting to watch truckloads of strangers riding down the streets of Mesquite and Bunkerville displaying flags that are associated with armed rebellion and strangers armed with assault weapons supporting Mr. Bundy. Many thousands of dollars are spent in the Virgin Valley and Moapa Valley to promote our communities as great destinations to visit and recreate.
Now in just a few short weeks, we have become an area where peaceful citizens are afraid to travel. Just look at the recent decline in the attendance of the Clark County Fair in Overton. The economic consequences of Mr. Bundy’s rebellion will be felt in our communities for a long time. In his fight against what he perceives as his right to do whatever he pleases with the resources of our community, he has harmed our economies and jeopardized all of our rights to enjoy this great part of Southern Nevada.

I was checking out Mesquite's crime report and the ones that caught my eye were at the local motel/hotels - trespassing, suspicious activity, breaking a window properties, suspicious male asking about occupants, 3 adult males loitering and unknown male caller asking if there were any federal agents staying at that location.

Breaking: Alaska Supreme Court Rules For Same-Sex Couples In Tax Case — Is Marriage Next?
ReplyDeleteThe Alaska Supreme Court today ruled that same-sex couples must be treated under the law as equal to different sex couples in an issue regarding property taxes. Given that Alaska has a long-standing constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, this case might be used as a precedent in the future to overturn the ban and extend marriage to same-sex couples.
“The Alaska Supreme Court ruled today that the state unconstitutionally discriminates against same-sex couples by denying them equal access to a property tax exemption for senior citizens and disabled veterans,” the ACLU announced.
“Families in Alaska deserve better than a second-class system of laws for same-sex couples who are just as committed to each other as heterosexual couples,” said Joshua Decker, executive director of the ACLU of Alaska via a statement. “Our senior citizens and veterans should not have to pay more taxes just because they happen to be gay or lesbian.”
The lead plaintiffs, Julie Schmidt, 71, and Gayle Schuh, 66, have been partners for 36 years, and moved to Alaska from Illinois after retiring from careers in education.
“Gayle and I built a home and a life here because we loved what Alaska had to offer,” said Schmidt. “It hurt that the state that we loved so much treated us like strangers. It is gratifying to have our relationship recognized.”
The case, Schmidt v. Alaska, includes two other same-sex couples.
...Alaska is one of just three states that don’t offer marriage equality and do not have a lawsuit pending suing for the freedom to marry. News broke today that a lawsuit will soon be filed in South Dakota, leaving Alaska, North Dakota and Montana without pending lawsuits.

A microchip implanted in '80 or after. Just had an odd mental image of a chip the size of the first mobile phones, huge brick shape under the skin on the side of a clueless dude's head....
ReplyDeleteExactly! Chips weren't exactly "micro" in the 80s.
DeleteI looked up one of the links that nut was talking about - the microchips people claimed to have been removed by doctors are smaller than a grain of rice! LOL
DeleteThese conspiracy nuts have got it all wrong. There were no microchips to be implanted in 1980. However, in Arkansas, where there was no cable TV at the time, alien often landed and inserted a satellite dish probe in the anus of several of the good ole boys. I heard about that shit on the Alex Jones site on the Internet, so you know it's true. Plus, there was an episode on Southpark about it. Fact.
Delete7:25 PM
DeleteI'm ROFL. If Saint Ronnie hadn't shut down the mental institutions, Alex Jones, Fox News and a bunch of others would be selling snake oil instead of theories.
This entire story had to play out this way.....the eventual display on national TV (Fox/CNN) of sheer ignorance and deep seeded racism of poster boy Bundy. The cartoon says it all...perfect.
ReplyDeleteI have watched interviews of town folk cowering in their homes afraid to leave or send their kids to school due to hundreds of these militia types roaming around...how friggin scarey is that? Reading about Hannity being totally owned by the Kochs explains alot....this had really gotten out of control. If this doesn't wake up our voters...there is no hope.
Between the gun laws, education in creationism, abortion...omg vote every GOP lawmaker out!!
I knew, KNEW this guy was way off, just by how he talked. He sounded senile and the contradictory outrageous statements, and the way he looked seemed way off. If he believes God requires men to arm themselves and fight for his cattle, he's got serious issues.
ReplyDeleteBonkersville.
I live in a state that is 47% public land. This is land that belongs to the public and can be used for many different activities. I use it for hiking 3 days a week. If it belonged to private owners - ranchers, gas and oil companies, they would have it fenced off with no trespassing signs. Thank you BLM!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Bundy can bring a few of his cows to your state, too. Because Free Dumb is for grazing rights on everybody else's property. God told Bundy not to pay the grazing fees.
DeleteWell now, the bible does mention a toll booth, not at Lake Mead, but you get the idea, in Matthew 9:9. The Park Service, is all over Genesis. Hoooooot!
ReplyDelete
