Extremist Joni Ernst (R-IA) is running for the U.S. Senate, you know, the place that used to be the speed bump against the crazies in the House of Representatives. But now Republicans are hoping to turn the Senate into a highway for their extremist Tea Party positions, so they can pass laws that most reasonable people take issue with — like outlawing abortion in all cases, even in the case of rape or incest, due to the personhood amendment Joni Ernst supports.
Democrats hit Ernst today with an ad featuring Kim Tweedy, a Nurse Examiner on a West Des Moines Sexual Assault Response Team, who says, “I’ll never understand politicians who’d make it harder. Politicians like Joni Ernst. She’d outlaw abortion even for victims of rape and incest. She’d ban a woman’s right to choose even for women who’ve been through that trauma, absolutely brutalized.”
Damn! It looks like the Democrats as a unit have simply decided that it is time to take the gloves off and start street brawling.
This ad is reminiscent of the Wendy Davis ad that received so much attention, and the Ebola one from the Agenda Project.
Good, it is past time for us to start playing hard ball.
I still do not see what the big damn deal was about Wendy's ad regarding Rick Perry on Wheels aka Greg Abbott. She said "he's in a wheelchair and sued for millions of dollars which he received, due to his accident. Yet he has consistently voted NOT to allow other people in paralyzing accidents to sue for monetary compensation."
ReplyDeleteThat statement is nothing but the bare bones truth. Abbott wrangled ten million dollars from his accident. Then proceeded to throw every roadblock he could in front of other people being allowed to pursue the EXACT course of action he took. Regarding a woman who lost her feet in a negligence accident, Abbott said she didn't need more than the "cap" of 750k because "the cost of prosthetic feet is far less".
Even as a man who had been in a wheelchair for quite awhile at that time, he chose only to please the large corporations who donated to his campaigns and not think at ALL about the traumatized, financially strapped patients of which he himself was at one time before his ten million dollar payday.
And years ago when his advisor told him he couldn't succeed in Texas without having the Hispanic vote, he allegedly said "well then I'm gonna go find me a nice brown wife" which he DID and sure enough, he suddenly was polling well with Hispanics after planting his new "exotic" girlfriend (now wife) at his side.
He's just disgusting. People don't want to say it because he's in a wheelchair. But he is. Disgusting.
This so-called personhood amendment (which probably wouldn't withstand a court challenge) would outlaw in vitro fertilization and many forms of birth control. The fact that she is pushing it just shows how extreme this woman is. She needs to lose. I hope the Dems have their ground game on. With the race so tight, it's all about getting your voters to the polls.
ReplyDeleteThese Christians with their self righteous "I know better" attitude want to force their theocratic notions on a secular society
ReplyDeletewith not one thought as to the implications, or that it's contrary to the Constitution.
I don't have daughters only two great sons who have become my best friends.
If I did have a young teen daughter who was raped and pregnant, I can guarantee that no one like Joni Ernst with her sanctimonious bullshit would stand in my way of getting my girl a termination.
Want to know why?
In the USA, in some states, the god damn asshole criminal rapist is ENTITLED to visitation. Yes, you heard that right.
These bastards like Ernst, Palin, Sharron Angle, and Tony Perkins would want to force my young daughter to a dangerous pregnancy (as a teen or tween) which can cause all sorts of health problems. Not only that, but then the rapist gets to harass them for 18 years for visitation and being involved in their life. Fuck that bullshit.
In the USA in some states, rapists get off with very light sentences because we live in a society where a large portion of the male population think it's not nearly as serious a crime as manslaughter or armed robbery
Rapists can end up getting a 1-3 year sentence, or even probation.
Which means that the bastard lowlife criminal gets off with a wrist slap, and can prey again on young women and girls, who may again be subject to the Christian theocrats and their fucking rules.
I would go to any lengths to fly a daughter to another country to have the procedure.
That's fine for me, but many people don't have the means or ability to pay for that travel and the procedure.
What these Christian Taliban are trying to do is to impose their jihad at gun point on the wombs of women and girls everywhere
Fuck that noise
And yes, I'm angry just thinking about it, so excuse the unusual profanity
Joni Ernst has no idea what these women go through = PERFECT.
ReplyDeleteAlso, too, the Libertarian candidate was, ahem..."airplaned."
ReplyDeleteThis is great! IWish someone would edit it to make it work as a generic ad that could be used nationwide against the dominionist GOP agenda.
ReplyDeleteAnd could Democratic candidates please start bragging about the economy, Obamacare, and Pres. Obama's and Dem's many other successes. Please start calling out the GOP lies and stop letting them set the agenda.
Democrats better watch out. If they are not careful Sarah Palin will load up all her inebriated retards along with their buddies Captain Jack Daniels, Jim Beam and Old Crow into a stretched limo and head out to Iowa for an old fashioned Palin Family Drunken Brawl and Ass Whoopin'.
ReplyDeleteI love A.J.'s comment! It's time to fight these freaks. They are dangerous.
ReplyDeleteI live in Iowa, and Joni Ernst scares the crap out of me. And from what I have observed here, she seems to be getting a lot of attention. I see a lot of Joni Ernst signs and such, even in Des Moines.
Now this does not mean of course, that she will win. I was as shocked as anyone when Barack Obama won the caucuses here first, I would have never predicted it! But it does scare me. Enough people think this woman is a plausible candidate. And we re-elected Terry Branstad as governor, so.....
No...that has to be Tina Fey. Huh? It isn't? You mean that's actually Sarah the Scrooge smacking her lips at the suckers she knows she can bilk?
ReplyDeleteDAMN.
I've seen used car salesmen look less sleazy.
For far too long, I've tried to see the point of view of the far right. I've truly tried to understand where they are coming from. And finally I can say...
ReplyDeleteFuck you!
If you're not for gay rights, then you are a homophobic bigot.
If you're not for women's rights, then you are a misogynistic sexist
If you're not for civil rights, then you are a racist asshole.
Whew, I feel better.
Jennifer K
I just love your post Jennifer, I feel the same way. Why should we move backwards when we could be moving forward? I am tired of trying to reason with insane people.
DeleteNate Silver's predictions terrify me: Repubs will keep the House and take the Senate?
ReplyDeleteI grew up in theocratic Colorado Springs. I do not want to live in that world again. Maybe it's time to look at moving to another country.
Definitely you should move. Or better yet, go volunteer to make calls to Democrats GOTV via MoveOn. You aren't helping by whining here,
DeleteUm, what crawled up your britches and bit down hard?
DeleteThe changes in this country as a result of the extremist right are fucking SCARY. It's not "whining" to vocalize those fears.
I'm a black woman, married to a Jewish man...in Texas. I'd be lying if I said we hadn't had the "move to Canada" talk.
My daughter is a nurse.
ReplyDeleteShe worked for a full year in the NICU
She maintains that everyone that signs an anti-abortion petition should have to work in the NICU for a year
...and hold and care for those poor unfortunate babies that are born with severe birth defects and thus, are doomed to live a few heart-rending weeks in screaming agony.
...and witness the horrors of fetal alcohol poisoning
...and born drug addicted babies
...on and on and on.
The monsters aren't the birth defect babies
the monsters are the ones that participate in anti-abortion petitions.
Let's pass a law that requires every single person that signs an anti-abortion petition to serve a year in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - and if they can't handle it, then they serve the rest of their term in jail.
Let's pass another law that requires every single person that instigates an anti-abortion petition to serve FIVE years in the NICU.
I can't wrap my mind around any woman who holds Joni's views on Abortion. This is a woman who ran with one bullet point on knowing how to castrate pigs. Imagine a Male Gynecologist thinking that knowing how to perform a hysterectomy would somehow make him qualified to be a candidate. WTH is wrong with these people?
ReplyDelete"Brutalized" is too good a word to describe a crime of violence using sex and brutality as a weapon, yet there isn't a word that portrays it more adequately than that, Even worse is being forced to bear and raise the child, it's torture and abuse of the worse kind.
I wholeheartedly agree! It is time for the gloves to come off. We women have endured too much and it is time to put the wing nuts back into to the black hole they emerged from.
