“We don’t have an outbreak,” Smith said. “We have two sick people from one dying man. And the rest of this should stop, because it’s not productive. And it’s not worth ratings, and it’s not worth politics, and we all need to stop it.”
You know I recently slammed Shep Smith for his histrionics over ISIS and claims that the other Muslim countries would not work with the US to fight them.
However on this topic he is by far the voice of reason.
I usually watch MSNBC, and not only is Chris Matthews constantly pulling his hair out over this, I also watched a clip during Chris Hayes show where they followed an ambulance containing an Ebola victim with a helicopter.
Shades of OJ Batman, that is ridiculous!
We have been documenting Ebola outbreaks since 1976, and yes this might be the biggest one so far, but there are still far fewer deaths than can be attributed to the common flu each year.
Remember when the AIDS epidemic had some suggesting the rounding up of homosexuals, testing them for HIV and then isolating them from the rest of the population?
Same out of control hysteria this time around. And of course it is driven in no small way by the politics of fear.
And we all know which political party that favors.
No, it's all Obama's fault!

Love, the 4pees.
Evidently (and sadly), it doesn't take much to be the "voice of reason" on FOX.
ReplyDeleteGryph's astounding and too sadly accurate point is that Smith here is the “Voice of Reason" for all cable “news."
DeleteI'm thinking they don't want their viewers to be "too skeered" of that thar Ebola to be able to go out and vote.
DeleteFox news doesn't tell the truth for no reason now does it? What else could it be? But I am happy they did. B/c I'm sick of hearing about it.
Even from people WHO SHOULD FUCKING KNOW BETTER....!
No worries about guns though. These people are fucked between the ears.I guess because nobody makes money off of ebola. Assholes!

DeleteYes, its IS pretty funny the wingnuts are all wee'd wee'd up about Ebola but not the gun on their coffee table in reach of their 18 mos old kid or the krazy hunter across the street in the woods or the cop when he pulls them over....
Nope its Ebola, b/c ya know it sounds kind of like Obama?
Very scary.
JK ;-)
Irony: they're are equally terrified of ebola and Obamacare. Think about the inconsistency of that one, lol.
Delete“For the record, I’m on Team Shep on this,” Powers added, referring to fellow Fox host Shep Smith’s comments yesterday that what Ebola panic there was in the U.S. was being ginned up by hyperbolic media coverage. “I think we’re having a lot of hysteria over this. Did the CDC mishandle it? Absolutely. Should they be held accountable for it? Absolutely. But we are not seeing an epidemic. We are not even in the threat of an epidemic.”

The media is spreading the fear throughout the country. Why anyone would watch TV today is beyond me (to include MSNBC!)
ReplyDeleteUse the internet and research the facts about the disease.
It's being said the TV hosts don't know what the hell they are talking about!
+ Infinity
DeleteI am a health care provider and have valid concerns about my safety and the safety of others given the missteps, mistakes and inadequate CDC guidelines for personal protection equipment that is minimal for hands on care providers that leaves skin surfaces exposed.
ReplyDeleteI presumed after seeing medical workers in Africa that medical personnel would be given the same here and decontamination procedures be enforced. Tyvec suits were not provided to Dallas hospital workers for two days.
Just saying that everyone ought to be scared that if a hospital employee gets live Ebola virus on their pants leg or shoe which gets transferred to another patients sheet they touch then touch their mouth, eye or genitalia this can spread.
CDC guideline is only a flimsy paper gown, wrist length gloves, a mask and goggles. Reality is that patients can suddenly vomit or shit fly out of their ass like a fire hose burst going everywhere. The thin elastic on the gown sleeves do not stay covering the gloves in practice often.
I disagree about having fear when the first episode was mismanaged and put health care workers at high risk and some of them put others at risk not limiting their contact with people.
What is up with contradictory information that fever is not a symptom now? Common sense dictates anyone exposed to a deadly disease having any temperature elevation be considered infected until proven otherwise.
I agree with Anonymous 1:25. It is a shame that the hospitals' bottom line takes precedence over the proper protection of their own staff people, who are essential when it comes to saving the lives of ALL hospital patients. Ebola is not like AIDS: it is much more contagious than AIDS. Therefore, a comparison should not be made between the two. I have been in Presbyterian as a patient: would NEVER set foot in that hospital again. And by the way, this can not be laid at the feet of the CDC. All the CDC can do is issue guidelines, they can not force any hospital to have hazmat gear on hand, to train its people properly, or to supervise them. And they certainly have no control over any hospital budget. There are thousands of hospitals in the US and only one CDC, and the CDC, with its present budget constraints, probably doesn't have more than a handful or so of people who are full-time ebola professionals. This is a first-responder (hospital) job, not a government job. Texas hospitals are already suffering due to Rick Perry's refusal to expand Medicaid; hospitals in states that did expand Medicaid are now doing much better than those in refusing red states. If any government official is to be blamed for what is going on at the hospital, it is Rick Perry and the GOP Congress, who want to shut down the government completely as they figure out ways to shrink it small enough to drown it in a bath tub. They are such whiners now: a bunch of e-bawl-a crats.
DeleteClearly we have no choice but to nuke Texas from orbit. ...it's the only way to be sure.

Good idea, 1:33 PM They want to secede anyway! We could just give them a little help!
DeleteOh good grief, you could've just SAID it was Bryan Fisher and saved me the click. :P
ReplyDeleteWanna know the plant that can fix this with the vaccine?
ReplyDeleteTOBACCO LEAVES!!!
naw we dont' have a HUGE supply globally do we?
I STILL remember Shep saying "That from mitt romney. {pause} Politics is weird... and creepy."
ReplyDeleteAnonymous1:17 PM
ReplyDeleteof course. The very people who should be guinea pigs for the virus. MannCoulter and Limbballs! I could also suggest Nugent and pig with lipstick aka old Hooohaaah volunteer since they are so "Patriotic" to take one for the team and be the test subjects for the Vaccine!
Hey Serra you could redeem yourself and be a "Rill" hero!
Lawrence O'Donnell deserves credit for being the only MSNBC host I saw yesterday with perspective. Rachel Maddow spent almost all of Wed's show on Ebola. And she's back on it today as I type with more coming up after the break...Ebola.
ReplyDeleteIt's annoying as hell for fearmongers to set the agenda while important issues are totally ignored and so many voters remain forever and always misinformed and uninformed.
I always get Shep and Shemp mixed up. This is the one on Fox, right? Well did he say anything else "truthy" that day? A broken clock is right twice a day, hmmm maybe I'll change that to "sundial".
ReplyDeleteYou're so right about the hysteria over this in the media. A nurse and her dog are being quarantined separately and people are apoplectic over photos of people not properly using the protective gear given them. We STILL don't have an Attorney General, and when we do, we fire them for saying "masturbation", which falls squarely at the feet of the sitting President. Why? First victim on our soil, African American. The sitting President? you guessed it, African American. Coincidence?
Marcia's on a mission to make Sarah seem somewhat sane. Pay her no mind.
ReplyDeleteYup, when there is nothing else "sexy" to report, fear is the preferred excito-toxin. I agree with you, this is being blown out of proportion.
ReplyDeleteAnita the dog is so stupid what they are doing! There is no proof K-9 get Ebola. And the closest thing
ReplyDeletea K-9 gets is parvovirus which they are vaccinated against. The FEARMONGERING is unbelievable here. People are IDIOTS!
They were going to Euthanize her dog!? I don't even know IF it is proved that she has it. Yet Nancy snyderman who was exposed or something left to go have lunch, but you know she is white.
Its Bullshit.
I chanced to hear the disgusting Blackburn today. She sure likes to hear herself talk, the way she cuts others off before they finish their sentence. She has no respect for anyone...she is totally self-centered. Yes, she did pounce on "porous borders". I felt she was trying to make everything that Dr. Frieden said, reflect poorly on our President and his Administration. Blackburn is a joke and a jerk.
ReplyDelete307 ever wonder why some indigenous peoples chew tobacco and other 'leaves' ? to stay free of disease...but I suppose that was when the natural resources were in abundance and weather was tolerable..the percentages of today's consumption is low...
ReplyDeleteGosh do you suppose that if Ebola had originated in Sweden and only infected blonde, blue-eyed, white people, the repubs would not be in such a panic about a travel ban!!
ReplyDeleteSo, the National Guard Reservists are being called up to serve in Ebola ridden areas of Africa. Wonder, if Caint-do-Rite Trackers will be called up.
