The families of nine people killed in the Newtown elementary school shooting have filed lawsuits against the estate of the gunman's mother.
The lawsuits allege that Nancy Lanza incorrectly secured her legally owned Bushmaster AR-15 rifle, which her troubled adult son, Adam Lanza, used to kill 20 children and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012, the Connecticut Post reported Friday.
Adam Lanza killed his mother at their Newtown home before carrying out the school shooting and committing suicide as police arrived.
The lawsuits seek to collect on Nancy Lanza's homeowner's insurance, the Connecticut Post reported. Bridgeport lawyer Josh Koskoff, representing eight of the families suing, said homeowner's insurance applies when a person is injured as a result of an unsecured firearm in a home being accessed by a third party.
'With this many claimants, the money ends up being a symbolic gesture, but it serves as an important reminder that people who keep firearms in the home must be scrupulous about securing their weapons,' Koskoff said in a statement, adding that the policy is estimated to be worth between $1 million and $1.5 million.
I am not usually a huge fan of lawsuits but anything that might help convince gun owners to keep their guns out of the hands of those who might use them to do harm is a good idea in my book.
Koskoff is also suing, on behalf of these families, the manufacturer of the Bushmaster AR-15 that Lanza used during his killing spree as well. It will likely not do anything to stop them from manufacturing them, but once again somebody needs to do something.
Of all of the things that will haunt me for the remainder of my days, the fact that we as a nation were unable to respond in an aggressive manner with new gun control legislation in the wake of this massacre is one I will never find peace with.
If the murder of 20 innocent children was not enough to bring common sense to our gun laws, then clearly nothing ever will.
I know some rather sanctimonious Christians (Protestant, Lutheran) that work at TechOrd. Tech Ord. Technical Ordinance. They make weapons.
ReplyDeleteThey work at a factory that literally makes bombs and bullets.
They vehemently insist that they are pro-life and every life is precious.
I wonder how many pro-life Christians (Protestant, Catholic, Evangelical, Whatever...) work at the factory that makes the AR-15's like the one Adam Lanza used?
I wonder how they can reconcile believing they are pro-life Christians and at the same time earning their living by making instruments of death?
Probably they're just blue collar workers trying to provide food and shelter for their children. They have little-to-no role in the making or implementing of gun regs and policy. Get off your high horse.
DeleteMore like 20 children playing with guns everyday. More like 20 veterans commiting suicide everyday. More like 20 domestic violence murders everyday. Palin-Meyer tragedy in waiting...

Exactly what I thought in the aftermath when the GOP thumbed their noses, and who can forget the absolute callousness in LaPierre's response.
I am not a fan of the growing tendency to sue, but I agree with it in this case.
ReplyDeleteI can not believe the people who, like the holocaust, say this never happened.
They deserve to sue the estate of adam lanza's Mother, good for them it won't bring back their children but someone has to be held accountable. Several websites claims the Mother was a "Dooms Day Prepper", a survivalist, somehow encouraged by the likes of glenn beck, these people would stock pile weapons in case terrorist, the Government or as beck put it, Social disasters like if the economy tanked, you're going to need guns, and lots of them and these stupid fu*ks ate that shit up. The sad part is she knew his mental illness was getting worse and yet she kept the guns in the house, she could prepare for an Obama Economic meld down, (which never happed) but she couldn't be prepare for her son's atrocities.
ReplyDeleteEvery time Noah Pozner dies, I feel bad -- until I realize that boy keeps dying all over the world, at different "school shootings."

Lenny Pozner is too busy censoring Sandy Hoax info to watch his own son. That's why Noah keeps dying, over and over.

Noah Pozner died at Sandy Hook (Newtown CT), then died AGAIN in Pakistan.

If Lenny Pozner took better care of Noah, perhaps Noah would stop dying so often. I wonder what Veronique Pozner (the "mother") thinks of her son dying every 2 years.

Is Veronique Pozner (Diplomat attached to Embassy of Switzerland in DC) pushing some kind of UN Agenda 21 Gun Control scam?

Please seek help. You are DISGUSTING and just not very bright.. Seriously seek help before you hurt someone, I beg you!
DeleteYou'll be seeking a new occupation -- when you get fired from your Government Shill job. Fake Shootings are happening, and it cannot be covered up any longer. I'm not fooled. People are waking up. There's NO DEATH CERTIFICATES for the 26 Sandy Hook "victims," but that doesn't bother Government Shills, since they're paid to pretend "people died" while ignoring the lack of evidence.
DeleteI just now decided to not watch this monster. I just yesterday read about Paulks. Eww.

ReplyDeleteAll that lawsuit will accomplish is using up court time and enriching the lawyers and making the parents feel relevant by reminding us that their sorrow and loss is so much more devastating than that of anyone else.
I might agree with the first part of you comment, but do you really think the parents are doing this to feel relevant and rub their sorrow it in the rest of our faces?
DeleteYes. I liken them to the parents of 3 or 4 high schoolers killed in a car accident (true story) who planted a memorial garden on public land next to the highway so everyone would be reminded of their loss. That's what cemeteries are for.
DeleteNow that the Sandy Hook parents are no longer much in the news, these parents don't know what to do with their loss or their lives so, hey, a lawsuit will get them attention for a while at least.
Color me cynical.
The government, including Obama, Congress and all of our Federal and state departments have failed to protect us from these gun nuts.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for this family and any and all other parties (like Gabby Gifford) suing the pants off of any corporation they can. We all know money talks. Corporation use money to buy our Congresspeople. We'll take it away in lawsuits, a thousand cuts at at time.
Sure, let the gun companies raise the prices to cover their lawsuit losses. Just adds more people to the list that can't afford to buy a gun.
I hope they don't forget the ammunition. The ammo companies need to be sued too, for providing armor piercing bullets to the public, large magazines, etc.
Sue them all.
Did the FDA ban HFCS? Nope. But companies stopped using it when we stopped buying their products.
If litigation is the only way to get their attention, then I'm fine with it.
If there is one thing that can get the attention of a corporation, it's losing money.
The truthers will go wild........
