Milwaukee police officers successfully sue gun store after being shot by firearm obtained through a straw purchase.

Courtesy of ABC News:

A jury in Milwaukee, Wis., has sided today with two police officers in a civil case that claimed a gun store bore some responsibility in the illegal sale of a gun that was later used in their shooting.

Milwaukee police officer Bryan Norberg and former officer Graham Kunisch were seriously wounded in 2009, when Julius Burton shot both of them in their faces as they were stopping him for riding his bike on the sidewalk. The officers said they were left physically and mentally scarred. Authorities later linked the weapon to Jacob Collins.

Authorities said Burton, a minor at the time, had paid Collins to illegally purchase the gun for him at Badger Guns in a deal called a straw purchase.

Burton pleaded guilty to attempted first degree intentional homicide and is in prison. He was also convicted in the illegal gun purchase. Collins served a two-year sentence after pleading guilty to buying a gun for an underage person.

The jury's verdict is expected to have far-reaching implications.

Man you know this is going to drive the NRA out of their minds.

Which makes it the best news ever.

I think this fits in with our gun culture....
Since I just got booted off ç4p for calling out mark1955 for once again claiming Sandy Hook was staged by the government, let me share the resident moderators opinion of why I had to go, but mark1955 can stay:

"I don't know how I feel about the various truther conspiracies re: guns and even re: 9/11.

While I don't know the validity behind what every person says, I do appreciate their being willing to call out things as they see it. It's their rights as being Americans under the Constitution.

I also think one could claim that Sandy Hook was a government conspiracy without taking away the validity of the tragedy to the victims. Either way, it's a tragedy that they died just as it was a tragedy on 9/11."

There are only a couple of posters at the pee pond who are willing to call out mark1955's disgusting conspiracy remarks. At least they seem to have some human decency left. That January character is repugnant with apparently no redeeming qualities at all.

With Steve the moderator saying HE also believes 9-11 & Sandy Hook were government false flags, that site is beyond redemption.
January is truly a mentally disturbed person. Her behavior is beyond mean girl. She mentioned "working" in a mental asylum awhile back. Truth be told, I think she was a resident patient.

The only friends January has are the other extreme mean women and Reynolds, who I think is emotionally stunted and thinks he will end up with her and MJS, who I strong suspect jacks off to her various avatars.

Glad you guys have the energy. Being new here (yet already kicked outta the pond) I thought January might have been the stool herself but I defer to better judgement.

Gryphen please let me post a link for strategic voting here in Canada, we have a chance to dump the NeoCons in 5 days and it's important cause we have no term limits.

I have often thought that January might be AIP PALIN. Same level of meanness, but January has a better command of grammer and vocabulary, so doubtful. Supposedly, she is Eileen Davis of TV soaps and Real Housewives "fame" sister. Explains her bitter, ugly personality. The less attractive, less talented, lesser sibling.

She is the sister of Eileen Davidson of Soap Opera fame. I was reading the day she outed herself when Eileen won an Emmy. Her pals warned her not to out herself but she was too anxious to brag. I think she's the "special" sister. The "misery" one.

There has to be a lot more to that story. If the gun store owner didn't know it was a straw purchase, he has an excellent appeal case.

I read the whole story. It seems that the buyer indicated on paper when purchasing the gun that the gun was not for him. This is why the store was held liable.

There is video evidence of the two men buying the gun; and the man who was not of age asked another man to purchase the gun for him. And, they were unable to fill out the forms without help by the owner of the shop.

    3. This store has been in trouble before for illegal gun sales. I hope this ruling sets a precedent.

You just know that the NRA will be throwing money at them and it will end up in the Supreme Court.

This gun shop is in my neighborhood. So many shootings in MKE have been linked back to this shop. This is EXCELLENT news.

IMO, the guy that actually bought the gun got off way too easy. He should be sued civilly for everything he will ever have.

It's a start. Now, we need to be able to sue the police for the damages and unwarranted deaths they cause.

    1. We also need to undo the exemption the Repubs passed under Bush giving gun and ammo manufacturers legal protection from the same product liability laws that apply to everyone else. Manufacture something intended not to kill, and you're liable if it does; manufacture something intended to kill, and you're not liable if it does. What could be more American than that?
