White supremacists shoot and injure five BLM protesters in Minneapolis.

Courtesy of the Star Tribune:

Five protesters were shot late Monday night near the Black Lives Matter encampment at the Fourth Precinct police station in north Minneapolis, according to police.

Those who were shot sustained non-life-threatening injuries, said police spokesman John Elder in a statement.

Miski Noor, a media contact for Black Lives Matter, said “a group of white supremacists showed up at the protest, as they have done most nights.”

One of the three men wore a mask, said Dana Jaehnert, who had been at the protest site since early evening.

When about a dozen protesters attempted to herd the group away from the area, Noor said, they “opened fire on about six protesters,” hitting five of them. Jaehnert said she heard four gunshots.

The Minneapolis police had arrested two suspects in the case, but released one after questioning.

I had originally resisted posting on this story because honestly it seemed almost unbelievable that actual white supremacists would attack this group.

But apparently that is indeed what happened.

As I am sure many of you have noticed there has been a concerted effort to vilify the BLM protesters.

Which has also lead to one them being attacked during a Donald Trump rally:

“It was just a sea of white faces,” he told ThinkProgress. “A lady kicked me in the stomach. A man kicked me in the chest. They called me n*****, monkey, and they shouted ‘all lives matter’ while they were kicking and punching me. So for all the people who are still confused at this point, they proved what ‘all lives matter’ meant. It means, ‘Shut up, n*****.'”

While I myself have found some of their tactics to be a little questionable, I also think that the constant vilifying of the group, something that even Sarah Palin indulged in recently, may lead to more of these kinds of attacks in the future.

Was listening to NPR yesterday and listeners were asked about admitting Syrian refugees. One woman phoned in and said it had almost gotten to the point she was afraid to leave her house -- because of DOMESTIC terrorists. She asked "What is happening to my country?" And she was a white woman, so can any of us whities imagine how it must feel to wear non-white skin and be subject to these neanderthals who think they're so much better?

I want to start a movement to call these people "white extremists." If we call them white supremacist, racists hearing the expression can reassure themselves, "Oh, I don't think whites are superior so I'm not one of them; I just think those darkies are [fill in the blank]." There is a reason Muslims find the expression "Islamic extremists" insulting, yet the news keeps using it. So lets slap the phrase on these terrorists, too. White extremists.

    1. I like it.

But I just call them terrorists.

  3. These are just the beginning salvos of the next civil -- uncivil -- war in the "united states" -- how shameful is this? and how predictable -- anger + religious nuts + guns. I wish I didn't see much worse to come.

The GOP now owns this home-grown, terrorist state of war for not denouncing their front-running (!) candidate.

How to stop it? The right-wing media inflammatory media will only make it worse. Presidential candidates must take the lead -- all of them. The GOP mob will lose votes, but lives may be gained...

The white racists pigs are sorry excuses for human beings, is all I can say!

ALL lives DO matter, but most especially the minorities. They have been (and continue to be) treated horribly in many areas of our country. There IS racism throughout the USA even though many say there isn't. Just look around you!

(and just for edification, I'm white and elderly!)

I don't think "ALL lives DO matter, but most especially the minorities". I think all lives matter, period.
I am horrified by what is going on in American. I thought we were more evolved than this. Sickening.
I do blame the rhetoric coming from the GOP for much of it.

Mostly unrelated, but I am from Oregon so when I see "BLM protesters" I immediately think about people protesting forest land use or spotted owls. It takes a second to go, "Oh yeah, the other BLM"

I think you are a bit premature on this one.

First, these people were labelled 'white supremacists' only by the BLM group, and that has been furthered by bloggers like yourself. Why can't they be counter protesters? Don't counter protesters have rights? Doesn't everyone have a right to protest on public land? Based on all accounts they were attacked and chased by a mob of BLM people. This could very well be a case of self defense.

You can easily find information about the jackasses that did this and this was no counter protest. Also, they weren't wearing white hoods.

Yes they were, and many citizens have video of it, including my BIL that was there. So fuck off. BTW a Lawyer now has the video from his phone so it doesn't disappear within the Minneapolis PD.

Link to video of them in hoods. They were wearing masks and trying to blend in with the protesters.

      @anon 1:56 pm

First of all, they were NOT trying to blend in, they were trying to antagonize the peaceful protesters, as for video that has already been made public of white supremacists wearing hoods at the BLM peaceful protest go on to facebook and Shaun King's facebook has video hooded protesters right before the shooting. Suck it up buttercup, you are wrong.
There are many other videos, but like I previously said they are in the hands of a trusted atty and will not be made public at this time do to the corruption of the Minneapolis PD. Now run along back to the pee because I need to call and see how my two friends that were shot are doing.

I saw the video on Shaun King's FB page and I saw no KKK white hoods. I saw guys in masks. Maybe you meant hoodie. It looked like one guy had on a hoodie along with a mask. Hoodie is different than KKK hood. Post a link that shows a KKK hood.

Gryphon, you missed an opportunity to label this incident for what it is: White Terrorism. How can this not be described as a terrorist attack? 5 people were shot in order to silence their political voice and invoke terror in the hearts of the protesters.

With the acceptance of these racists by former and current politicos, I won't be surprised to see them begin wearing their white Klan gear, along with the lethal penis extenders.

Time for tRump and the other GOP candidates to come out against all racist/extremist rhetoric and actions. And time for the authorities to throw the book at all of them when arrested.

I can see Trump wearing the KKK garb - his asinine rhetoric (on his campaign trail) fits their racists views perfectly.

Why anyone would pick this guy as the Republican candidate for POTUS is beyond me. He and Ted Cruz are very, very creepy folks!

Neither will be elected POTUS - betcha!!

And once again, when an active white male mass shooter is arrested he is treated with kid gloves.

Trump Campaign Officially Endorses Roughing Up Black Protesters

Donald Trump’s presidential campaign continued its embrace of a fascist world view when a senior official with the group endorsed roughing up black protestors.

A protester who was roughed up by the crowd at a Donald Trump rally likely deserved his treatment, Trump’s top aide said Tuesday.

“Every now and then an agitator deserves it,” Trump’s senior counsel Michael Cohen said on CNN’s “New Day.”
