And this my friends might be the one way that the Democratic candidate can be defeated in 2016.

Courtesy of The New York Times:

Michael R. Bloomberg has instructed advisers to draw up plans for a potential independent campaign in this year’s presidential race. His advisers and associates said he was galled by Donald J. Trump’s dominance of the Republican field, and troubled by Hillary Clinton’s stumbles and the rise of Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont on the Democratic side.

There is no way that this does not hurt Hillary more than the GOP nominee.

If I were the DNC I would make any deal I could to keep Bloomberg out of this race.

Bloomberg is GOP. Still, he'd draw some votes away from Clinton. The big question is whether he'd hurt the GOP candidate more.

I always take issue with people who believe Nader took votes away... blah blah blah. Nader ran his own campaign and earned his own votes for people that didn't want to vote for the main party candidates. He had every right to run and people have the right to vote for whoever they want.

You assholes don't get to control other peoples votes!

I almost never vote Democrat, and I never would have voted for Gore. So my vote for Nader really was a vote away from Bush. So stick it.

People who always vote party lines and keep this pretend 2 party system running, and everyone gets screwed.

@5:03: For those of you who have not experienced a 3-party (or more) system, here's the problem: inevitably one party will be conservative, one party will be liberal, and one party will be either ultra-con or ultra-lib. So what happens in all too many elections is that the ultra-lib or ultra-con party takes away votes from the conservative or the liberal party. And yes, that's what happened with Bush vs Gore or Nader -- you ended up with Bush. And for 11 years, we here in the GWN had to put up with the Conservative Harper. Fortunately in our most recent election, the Liberals stayed liberal, the NDP (which was habitually far-left) moved to almost the right of centre, and the cons became ultra-cons. Three or more parties are not always the panacea that some of you think it is.....And as for supporting parties -- smart voters support the policies they believe in. Stupid voters vote for the party.

Nader took votes away from Gore, maybe not yours, but many other people's. I remember interviews where people parroted Nader's claim that Gore and Bush were the same (which was a bunch of bullshit) and they were voting 3rd party. These were liberals whose reward was an 8 year Bush presidency. Unfortunately, the rest of us liberals had to suffer for their ignorance.

Bloomberg is simply scared that Bernie will win and then he'll have to pay tax for the first time in his life. But running against Bernie won't weaken Bernie OR Hillary.

A Wall Street Billionaire from NYC isn't going to add anything to the mix, Trump already has the billionaire gig sewn up, there isn't enough room for two NYC billionaires with slightly differing policies.

Andrea Mitchell has said she heard that the DNC is talking about biden coming in to avoid Bernie....They are as corrupt as the republicans. They don't want to lose their perks and easy jobs to actually having to work under Bernie. but be my guest, vote against your own best interests. We will write Bernie in...we will not accept an oligarch/plutocrat as our nominee. If it goes to a republican, they were warned. Bernie has the popular vote. Try to take it away and see what happens. Militant stupidity has to end in this country. This is our political revolution to finally change things here and stop being taken advantage of the 1%ers. Hillary authorized the sale of weapons, including biological/chemical, to various countries for a donation of $100,000 + donation to the Clinton foundation, of which Chelsea now earns a $900,000 salary a year. What can she do to earn that much? It is rigged. Hillary will never stop wall st or sanction them or big pharma, or insurance corps. Why would any middle class member vote for her or a republican? However, Chuck Todd said this afternoon, that Bloomberg has indicated that he is only considering a run if the likely GOP and Dem nominees are considered to be:

GOP - either Cruz or Trump
    Dem - Bernie

If by March 1, the Dem candidate is clearly going to be Hillary, then Bloomberg does not get in.

If by March 1, any of the other GOP candidates are considered the most likely candidate, he doesn't get in.

Todd had mixed views on how this would affect the race. He said that tomorrow on MTP he will have HRC, Bernie and Trump on for interviews.
