So the Republicans tried to delay the release of Americans held in Iran until it was in their best interests politically? Really?

Courtesy of Tasnim News Agency:

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said a recent prisoner exchange between Iran and the US went ahead as planned despite calls by Republicans for a delay until US presidential elections.

“In the course of the talks for exchanging prisoners, the Republican rivals of the current US administration who claim to be humanitarians and advocates of human rights sent a message telling us not to release these people (American prisoners) and continue this process (of talks) until the eve of US presidential elections,” Shamkhani said Thursday in an address to a rally held in the central city of Yazd to mark the 37th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution’s victory.

“However” he said “we acted upon our independent resolve and moved the process forward.”

Now of course the Republicans are going to dismiss this as mere propaganda, and usually that would be a reasonable charge to make.

If in fact this was not standard operating procedure for the GOP.

Courtesy of Truthout:

Behind Carter's back, the Reagan campaign worked out a deal with the leader of Iran's radical faction - Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini - to keep the hostages in captivity until after the 1980 Presidential election.

This was nothing short of treason. The Reagan campaign's secret negotiations with Khomeini - the so-called "October Surprise" - sabotaged Carter and Bani-Sadr's attempts to free the hostages. And as Bani-Sadr told The Christian Science Monitor in March of this year, they most certainly "tipped the results of the [1980] election in Reagan's favor."

Not surprisingly, Iran released the hostages on January 20, 1981, at the exact moment Ronald Reagan was sworn into office.

So do I think that at the same time the Republicans were criticizing President Obama for not getting the prisoners released BEFORE he signed the nuclear deal with Iran, they were also working behind the scenes to keep those men in prison even longer until it could help them politically?

Oh hell yeah!

  1. Anonymous9:03 AM

    Unfucking believable!!! Well, not really.

  2. Anonymous9:05 AM

I'd like to know who these Republican traitors are.

    1. Anonymous9:29 AM

You can bet President Obama knows, and he won't call them out. What I absolutely HATE about politics.

    2. Anonymous9:42 AM

When we find out who they are, we can kidnap them and hold them hostage until Iran votes to support Israel peace plan.

    3. Probably the same group under Tom Cotton who sent a letter earlier to Iran to suggest that any deal made with President Obama would be reversed once the GOP takes back the presidency. Traitors all!

    4. Anonymous11:30 AM

"I'd like to know who these Republican traitors are"

    5. Anonymous1:55 PM

      Don't be an idiot, 11:30.

  3. Anonymous9:12 AM

Wow, when I first started reading this I thought it WAS about what was pulled on Carter back then. Just, wow.

  4. Anonymous9:16 AM

Damn those ReThugs! I hope, the Iranians reveal just WHO EXACTLY was behind this conspiracy, and that the former prisoners will sue the SH*T out of them!!!

  5. Anonymous9:23 AM

Not a surprise. More like typical.

  6. Anonymous9:26 AM

Somehow this is Shillary's fault. How can I make this, and 1980, be about Shillary?

    1. Damned it, you know it's Obama's fault. It's that whole Kenyan Black thing, doncha know.

    2. Anonymous11:31 AM

    3. Anonymous12:02 PM

      "Thanks Obama!" Sarah

  7. It's just this type of Rethuglikan skullduggery that makes me fearful about the outcome of our coming election. Our only hope is a more than robust turn out, come the election.

Police Officer Placed on Leave After Remark Mocking Suicide of Black Lives Matter Protester

It seems to me when police officers do not place a suicidal person on a hold for 72 hours, that is far worse than mocking.

There is something seriously wrong and troublessome about the entire incident that occured on January 18, 2016 in Wasilla, Alaska.

Oh Hey Has Sarah Palin Checked On Her Suicidal Son Yet? That’d Be Nice

They will throw around words like PTSD and the 'Thanks Obama!' meme, but does anyone take any of this serious?

    1. Anonymous12:36 PM

Is it any wonder that police are having a difficult time in Alaska and America when they do stuff like this or shoot unarmed black youngsters that don't have guns on them to protect themselves?

  10. Anonymous9:47 AM

I detest Republicans. They so badly haven't wanted President Obama and his Administration to have ANY glory or success throughout his presidency!

He continues to beat them at their own bullshit and I admire him for it! Plus, love the fact I voted for him both times!

I think the Republicans in the United States Congress should be taken out into the woods and shot! Every damned one of them. They do nothing for America and are nothing more than hateful human beings! Plus, many of them are obviously racist!

Vote any Republican out of office that is possible in the upcoming elections. (all levels of government!)

We need new people in our government throughout the country - Democrats, Independents and Non partisan individuals need to be installed and term limits need to be enforced! (Need to research how that is done!)

Vote for Hillary Clinton! She has the balls many men don't in government! And, she's not afraid of Republicans - which I just love!

    1. Leland10:24 AM

Sorry, 9:47, but you can't enforce what doesn't exist. There are no term limits for Congress. Only the President has a limit. Now, if you mean we need to CREATE term limits, I'm with you. And research isn't really needed. The Constitution needs to be amended.

    2. Anonymous11:05 AM

Term limits always sounds like a nice idea until we discover we wipe out any good members of Congress too.

    3. Anonymous11:33 AM

too bad berniebros do not intend to vote for democrats

    4. Anonymous12:32 PM

I know there are term limits for the presidency 10:24 AM! There are NONE for Congress and there should be!

I said that I wished President Obama could serve a third term, but know he can't!

We so badly need to get the majority Republicans out of Congress. They do NOTHING but spread racism, obstruction, war, hate and anger and many of them have been there FAR TO LONG!

I'm sick to death of them and plan to do everything I can in my state to not allow the reelection of Republicans that represent us in Congress. The one has been there way too long - a female that literally makes me want to barf every time I watch her 'pained' presentations/speeches.

    5. Maple7:17 AM

Elections are supposed to be the logical replacement for term limits. After all, if the electors are unhappy with you, your term will be indeed limited.
Now the non-elected Supreme Court should certainly have term limits, perhaps by age (75?). JMHO.

  11. Anonymous9:48 AM

I, too, want to see names. And I want to see it become a national issue.

  12. Anonymous9:54 AM

Patti Reagan tells of this in her memoir. It is the absolute truth.

    1. Anonymous10:30 AM

Jimmy Carter has also mentioned it.

  13. Anonymous9:55 AM

    It's almost undoubtedly not true.
Can't prove it's not true, but really no evidence to support it is true, and too many good reasons for them to NOT do it.

Shamkhani framed his alleged example of Republican perfidy as support for Iran's assertion of immunity to foreign pressure, making it seem less like a truthful disclosure and more like a parable intended to rouse the faithful during a rally speech. And even had the release of prisoners been delayed until the "eve of the election," the party currently occupying the White House (i.e., Democrats) would quite possibly reap more political points for the swap than the Republicans would, rendering the claim as presented even less plausible.

We throw thousands of men in the hole for the books they read, the company they keep, the beliefs they hold. Here's why.

Why Track Palin will never be in an American prison. Amazing he could be allowed to spend an hour in an Alaskan jail.

    2. Anonymous11:34 AM

A scandal that even Snopes is unable to debunk?

But it's nothing, nothing to see here.

  15. Anonymous10:05 AM

I guess the Iranians have to figure out which party they want to win in November and then they will decide whether to release the names on the message. Such power! They could sway the election!

    Hearty Har Har!

    *head tilt*
    *rolling my eyes*

    1. Anonymous10:10 AM

      You don't remember 1980.

    2. Anonymous11:32 AM

Poor sad little person, do you need help getting back to your pond?

  16. Anonymous10:11 AM

Nothing new. They succeeded in 1976 when the Iranians agreed to wait until after Reagan's inauguration. All of the diplomacy had been done by the Carter administration. But, hey, the Republicans are the true patriots. Right???

    1. Anonymous10:37 AM

1976? Reagan was inaugurated in 1981.

    2. Anonymous10:41 AM

Jim Wright over at Stonekettle Station had a wonderful eye opening essay on the truth of the treasonous Reagan negotiation for the prisoners in 1980. I think you could go to his site and search through his old posts and find it. I thought I was pretty knowledgeable about the story but Jim Wright made it all so clear. Go check it out.

    3. Anonymous10:58 AM

Stonekettle Sation March 13, 2015 was the essay. The Second Coming of Richard Milhouse Nixon. Very revealing about politics and dirty tricks.

  17. Anonymous10:19 AM

Hey, it worked for Reagan, so they tried it again. Reagan also had trickle down economics and Iran contra.

  18. Anonymous10:26 AM

We should never be surprised by the sneaky underhanded methods used by the right-wing to undermine and destroy Democracy and rewrite the Constitution.

When the GOPTP is populated with the low functioning likes of Cruz, McConnell, Trump, Palin and many other similar self-serving, bigoted charlatans, there is no hope for fairness or Constitutional rights for all.

Their selfish needs are propelled only by their desire to feather their own nests and further their diabolical plans to disenfranchise those they consider beneath them and their definition of American citizens.

They make me ashamed of my Country while the world watches us move backwards to a time worse than when we were an abused colony seeking independence from a ruthless monarchy.

  19. Anonymous10:32 AM

I would say that is some Obama clout! As we recall the Repugs were making loud noises slamming Obama, now we know, it was because he messed up their plans. Way to go Obama!

  20. Anonymous10:37 AM

    Now you did it!

This is one of Bristol Palin's biggest concerns. Sarah Palin and Nancy French. They all should be in 'Labels:' on this post.

If you recall they follow and care about everything Pastor Saeed Abedini:

    Christian Today

    1. Anonymous11:10 AM

You mean like this post at the Brancy Blog? Where well summarize it as now revealed to be TOTAL derp derp derp!~

"You guys know how much I care about Pastor Saeed. He’s the American pastor who was sentenced to eight years in Iran’s most brutal prison simply because of his Christian faith. I’ve written about him several times, and then told you when he was transferred to an unimaginably dangerous prison. It’s a death sentence, really.

Now, our President has decided to leave him in Iran to die.

      Jordan Sekulow explains it here:"

Of course if the person is cited by Nancy French or Bristol you should google their ass!

    2. Anonymous11:40 AM

Bristol and Sarah have moved on to thanking Obama for domestic violence, they will forget about Pastor Saeed Abedini, he was yesterday's cause.

    3. Anonymous1:26 PM

Please. This is all about nothing. Soon it will be dropped or downsized to meaningless.

While Sarah Palin endorses Donald Trump—one reality TV star to another—things at home go

  21. Anonymous10:57 AM

    Lets see....

An Iranian propaganda piece from a Tehran news source.... and a propaganda piece from a lefty conspiracy site, which is trying to throw life onto a decades old conspiracy started by Lyndon LaRouche lol.

What a joke. You realy are losing all that credibility you never had to begin with.

    1. Anonymous11:31 AM

Go lie down, Sarah. You ugwy.

It'll be on CNN by dinnertime in New York.

    5. Anonymous12:47 PM

Sure thing, NTBD... no doubt it will make the rounds on all the left wing blogs like Gryphs, gaining 'credibility' and becoming more 'factual' every time it is repeated by persons such as yourself lol.

If MALOE is willing to confirm it, just consider it a lock, lol.

    6. Anonymous4:44 PM

Hey NTBD it is dinnertime in NY.... actually well past dinnertime in NY... still waiting for that story to drop on CNN lol.

    7. Anonymous4:35 AM

Is "lol" a nervous tic of yours? Every time you write it, I picture you alone in your room, giggling like a mental patient.

    8. Anonymous6:29 AM

      lol lol giggle giggle.

Still waiting for the CNN report.

  22. I do believe that once again OIL is the issue. Repubs did not want Iranian oil on international market.....this time around. Where is the GOP to make money now for the big oil boys? NRA or what?

I worked for an Iranian in Houston...many left Iran for Canada, America when Shaw was overthrown...never underestimate an Iranian...they will outsmart you every time. And remember, the GOP always plan for 10 years ahead..... We better watch our backs.

  23. Anonymous11:36 AM

If it wasn't true the Republicans wouldn't have tried it again. They hate new ideas.

  24. Anonymous11:40 AM

OT - Study proves (what we already knew) that the driving force behind the Tea Party was/is racism.

  25. Since when is this news? I knew they were doing it to Carter at the time and that's only one of the reasons I didn't vote for Reagan.

But....I did decide to register as a Democrat.

This treasonous undermining of our government (which seems to be standard operating procedure for the Republicans) is only one aspect of why I will never vote for a Republican.

  26. Anonymous12:12 PM

Gryph didn't Trump and others in the Republican Party chastised and attacked President Obama because Iran had our sailors?

So it is okay for the Republican Party or members of the Republican Party to tell the people they consider to be our enemies to hold onto our Americans citizens until it suited the GOP's needs.

Hold onto Americans until our presidential election?

Hold onto our citizens until Nov 2016?

In other words the Republican Party wanted to embarrass our African-American president by having the newly elected president get credit for their release.

The problem for the GOP is President Obama is not a narcissist who wants or needs credit.

I want all the names of these Republicans published. After all why would they be ashamed of their "diplomacy"

  32. I've been screaming my head off, that this massive incident of treason, has only been mentioned on freaking FACEBOOK, so far!

I'm thankful for it being HERE.

But it should be the lead story on the six o'clock news...but so far, not a PEEP.

So much for the "liberal media."

If this could somehow be connected to Hillary Clinton, four congressional investigations would be underway, and the area for the firing squad being prepared for use.

    1. Anonymous6:29 AM
