So the Republicans tried to delay the release of Americans held in Iran until it was in their best interests politically? Really?

Courtesy of Tasnim News Agency:

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said a recent prisoner exchange between Iran and the US went ahead as planned despite calls by Republicans for a delay until US presidential elections.

“In the course of the talks for exchanging prisoners, the Republican rivals of the current US administration who claim to be humanitarians and advocates of human rights sent a message telling us not to release these people (American prisoners) and continue this process (of talks) until the eve of US presidential elections,” Shamkhani said Thursday in an address to a rally held in the central city of Yazd to mark the 37th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution’s victory.

“However” he said “we acted upon our independent resolve and moved the process forward.”

Now of course the Republicans are going to dismiss this as mere propaganda, and usually that would be a reasonable charge to make.

If in fact this was not standard operating procedure for the GOP.

Courtesy of Truthout:

Behind Carter's back, the Reagan campaign worked out a deal with the leader of Iran's radical faction - Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini - to keep the hostages in captivity until after the 1980 Presidential election.

This was nothing short of treason. The Reagan campaign's secret negotiations with Khomeini - the so-called "October Surprise" - sabotaged Carter and Bani-Sadr's attempts to free the hostages. And as Bani-Sadr told The Christian Science Monitor in March of this year, they most certainly "tipped the results of the [1980] election in Reagan's favor."

Not surprisingly, Iran released the hostages on January 20, 1981, at the exact moment Ronald Reagan was sworn into office.

So do I think that at the same time the Republicans were criticizing President Obama for not getting the prisoners released BEFORE he signed the nuclear deal with Iran, they were also working behind the scenes to keep those men in prison even longer until it could help them politically?

Oh hell yeah!

I detest Republicans. They so badly haven't wanted President Obama and his Administration to have ANY glory or success throughout his presidency!

He continues to beat them at their own bullshit and I admire him for it! Plus, love the fact I voted for him both times!

I think the Republicans in the United States Congress should be taken out into the woods and shot! Every damned one of them. They do nothing for America and are nothing more than hateful human beings! Plus, many of them are obviously racist!

Vote any Republican out of office that is possible in the upcoming elections. (all levels of government!)

We need new people in our government throughout the country - Democrats, Independents and Non partisan individuals need to be installed and term limits need to be enforced! (Need to research how that is done!)

Vote for Hillary Clinton! She has the balls many men don't in government! And, she's not afraid of Republicans - which I just love!

Sorry, 9:47, but you can't enforce what doesn't exist. There are no term limits for Congress. Only the President has a limit. Now, if you mean we need to CREATE term limits, I'm with you. And research isn't really needed. The Constitution needs to be amended.

I said that I wished President Obama could serve a third term, but know he can't!

We so badly need to get the majority Republicans out of Congress. They do NOTHING but spread racism, obstruction, war, hate and anger and many of them have been there FAR TO LONG!

I'm sick to death of them and plan to do everything I can in my state to not allow the reelection of Republicans that represent us in Congress. The one has been there way too long - a female that literally makes me want to barf every time I watch her 'pained' presentations/speeches.

Elections are supposed to be the logical replacement for term limits. After all, if the electors are unhappy with you, your term will be indeed limited.
Now the non-elected Supreme Court should certainly have term limits, perhaps by age (75?). JMHO.

    http://www.snopes.com/gop-delayed-iran-prisoner-release-election/
Can't prove it's not true, but really no evidence to support it is true, and too many good reasons for them to NOT do it.

Shamkhani framed his alleged example of Republican perfidy as support for Iran's assertion of immunity to foreign pressure, making it seem less like a truthful disclosure and more like a parable intended to rouse the faithful during a rally speech. And even had the release of prisoners been delayed until the "eve of the election," the party currently occupying the White House (i.e., Democrats) would quite possibly reap more political points for the swap than the Republicans would, rendering the claim as presented even less plausible.

When the GOPTP is populated with the low functioning likes of Cruz, McConnell, Trump, Palin and many other similar self-serving, bigoted charlatans, there is no hope for fairness or Constitutional rights for all.

Their selfish needs are propelled only by their desire to feather their own nests and further their diabolical plans to disenfranchise those they consider beneath them and their definition of American citizens.

Gryph didn't Trump and others in the Republican Party chastised and attacked President Obama because Iran had our sailors?

So it is okay for the Republican Party or members of the Republican Party to tell the people they consider to be our enemies to hold onto our Americans citizens until it suited the GOP's needs.

Hold onto Americans until our presidential election?

Hold onto our citizens until Nov 2016?

    Why?

In other words the Republican Party wanted to embarrass our African-American president by having the newly elected president get credit for their release.

The problem for the GOP is President Obama is not a narcissist who wants or needs credit.
