Sovereign citizen convicted of plotting to overthrow the West Virginia state government.

Thomas David Deegan
Courtesy of Metro News:

A Wood County jury quickly convicted the man Friday who had threatened last fall to seize control of the state capitol and the state government of West Virginia.

The prosecution’s case centered on a conference call recorded last September where Deegan talked about his plan.

“The conversation was the actual crime itself,” Wood County Prosecutor Jason Wharton told MetroNews Friday morning. “The jury was able to hear the entirety of the conference call as well as some recordings from the regional jail and some other testimony.”

“He made statements with regard to a plan to essentially bring many individuals to the state capitol in Charleston in an attempt to overtake the offices in that complex,” Wharton said.

Deegan told those on the conference call they should shoot those who offered any resistance.

Oh he seems nice.

Here's more from the Southern Poverty Law Center:

Deegan is accused of laying out his overthrow plans in a series of conference calls -- one of them as recently as Sept. 14 -- where he called on like-minded armed extremists to grab their firearms and assist him in an attempt to overthrow state government, according to court documents.

His intended plan was to remove several state government leaders from their offices, charge them with treason and replace them with sovereign citizens. After apparently setting up a sovereign citizen-style court system, those found guilty of treason would be put to death.

Gee who could have guessed that this might be the result of constant anti-government rhetoric pouring out of  right wing radio and conservative news outlets 24 hours a day?

Deegan faces 1-3 years in prison and a $5,000 to $25,000 fine. He’ll be sentenced in April. Wharton said his office would stand against any attempts of alternate sentencing.

1-3 years--that is a slap on the wrist. WV needs to reconstruct its laws and sentencing guidelines on this kind of crap.

    1. Yes, for the US the sentence is light but I think the court has to examine the idiocy of the whole thing.

Unlike the Toronto 18. They were some wannabe terrorists with such "plans" as beheading our Prime Minister, taking over the CBC and blowing up the Parliament, storming our spy headquarters and bombing the peace tower. All plans made over Tim Horton's coffees by guys who couldn't tie their shoes and owned no weapons.

Regardless of their ineptitude they got some serious time, especially by Canadian standards.

So yeah, Deegan should have gotten 10-15. If he was brown it'd be 30 and deported.

If he were brown, he'd probably have died in the paddy wagon, or the back seat of the police car, a self-inflicted shot while handcuffed.

    Where is Track Palin's mugshot?

His record should be public. How can Homeland Security monitor his cache of assault weapons?

As Track described things on the compound they are reinforcing a fortress for any kind of end times catastrophe or if necessary a take over. They may feel they need to be ready if the IRS, ATF or any agency needs more information about Track and the Palins operations.

Isn't it sad that, for some here, you have to add that disclaimer, Leland?

I have to agree with you, 7:37. But then, I can just take into account the probable intelligence level of those who attempt to belittle or besmirch or attack those others who have some sense of what is and isn't normal acceptable behavior - not to mention intelligence or education.

Sadly, each of us know of someone who is brainwashed by the likes of fox and its affiliates. The signers of "the pledge" over 7yrs ago. Maybe all Public Schools should begin the day with lessons in morals manners and respect. And Media must stop promoting the silly celeBRATfluenza epidemic. Don John, the celebrat tv reality show flop is not a usa president contender, but he is a pretender! and he is wasting our time and energy.

Yes, the enforced recitation of our Pledge to Allegiance, under God, does not seem to be having the desired effect-or does it?

And his first order of business after the takeover would be to issue himself and his cronies double welfare checks and all the food stamps they want.

So is this what we can expect in every state if "Donald" doesn't win the nomination? He is already encouraging riots.

"Donald" would know about Sarah and Todd and how prepared they are.

Craig Compeaus is one of their buddies.

You know "Donald" sent Sarah home to take care of her son's problems when he made the news. Can't have it get out what is going on up in Alaska.

Federal Court Orders DOJ To Release Fast And Furious Information.
The Judicial Watch president explained why his group filed a FOIA request and how it would’ve resulted in the public knowing important details on documents that Obama has refused to release and give any information about.

  9. Can you say Sovereign Asshole? It amazes me that jerks like this just imagine the concept of what they want to happen, yet seem to make some allowance for what might happen. Again, assholes.
