High school teacher gets put on paid leave for comparing Donald Trump to Adolph Hitler.

Courtesy of the Monterey Herald:

A history teacher at Mountain View High School has been placed on paid leave after drawing parallels between Republican President-elect Donald Trump and Adolf Hitler in his lesson plan.

Frank Navarro, who’s taught at the school for 40 years, was asked to leave midday Thursday after a parent sent an email to the school expressing concerns about statements Navarro made in class. Mountain View/Los Altos High School District Superintendent Jeff Harding confirmed the incident Friday but declined to describe the parent’s complaints.

Navarro, an expert on the Holocaust, said school officials declined to read him the email and also declined his request to review the lesson plan with him.

“This feels like we’re trying to squash free speech,” he said. “Everything I talk about is factually based. They can go and check it out. “It’s not propaganda or bias if it’s based on hard facts.”

According to the superintendent Mr. Navarro will be back in the classroom as early as tomorrow and I certainly he picks up his lesson right where he left off.

Personally I don't know what the issue was?

After all if you elect a fascist you should be prepared for educators and the media to point out that they are indeed a fascist.

    But there's a major difference:

Hitler had Panzer tanks. Trump will have nuclear weapons.

That shows the lack of freedom we have come to. We live in a police state. When people actually realize that there will be change. As for this, it's ludicrous. People have been comparing Trump to Hitler for the past year.

Even when you have just cause in your contract and union protection, they can still manufacture enough to get rid of you if they want.

This is why university students aren't going in to teaching and those teachers that can retire or change careers. In general, we are all too smart to take this sort of shit.

I'm glad I got out when I did. I would not tolerate Orange Adolph's smug mug framed on the wall of my classroom. I would also set a poor example at assemblies when I remained seated and did not say the pledge or sing the national anthem.

O/T Well, well, well what are those teabagging “keep the government out of my medicare” morans going to do now?

    ---------------------
Ryan Plans to Phase Out Medicare in 2017

...Paul Ryan has been pushing to phase out Medicare and replace it with private insurance for several years. But now it's real with unified Republican government. He just said he will try to rush it through early next year while repealing Obamacare.....

........ Ryan says current beneficiaries will be allowed to keep their Medicare. Says. It's the cord is cut between current and future beneficiaries, everything is fair game. For those entering the system, Ryan proposes phasing out Medicare and replacing it private insurance with subsidies to help seniors afford the private insurance. That is unquestionably what it means because that is what Ryan says. So if you're nearing retirement and looking forward to going on Medicare, good luck. You're go on to private insurance but you'll get some subsidies from the government to pay the bill.

You'll hear lots of people calling this "reform" and other catchwords. But Medicare is a single payer, universal health care system. Replacing it with private insurance means getting rid of it. Even calling it "privatization" masks what is really afoot. ...

Miaiuppa, The Democrats will do everything possible in Congress. We'll have to help them as much as we can. What the GOP wants to do to Medicare and Social Security is not "reform." They will destroy them both for the simple reason that they were fought for and provided to us by the Democrats in Congress. No one gets rich with Social Security and Medicare requires supplemental insurance. But both programs work well and have been the most successful social network programs in this country's history. They're also about the only ones.

TRUMP IS THE MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE WORLD BUT THE WORLD NEEDS TO WORRY ABOUT WHO HE PICKS AS SECRETARY OF DEFENSE. PRAY IT IS NOT A TRUMP YES MAN

Trump has threatened the world he's not against using nuclear weapons

His flunky said "Everybody will bow down to Donald Trump"

However, his greatest power comes in a non-descript briefcase. The black satchel, nicknamed the "nuclear football", contains the launch codes to activate the US's nuclear missiles and is carried by a top-level aide wherever the president goes.

Trump has said he would be prepared to use nuclear weapons as "an absolute last step", causing Clinton to question whether "a man you can bait with a tweet" should have ultimate authority over potentially world-ending weaponry.

However, while only the president can order the use of nuclear weapons, the order must be approved by the secretary of defence before it can be carried out.

Your Worst Nightmare Has Just Begun

    New York Times
.... In a statement Sunday afternoon, the transition team said Mr. Bannon would serve as the chief strategist and senior counselor in the White House. It emphasized that the two men would work “as equal partners to transform the federal government.”

Mr. Bannon — the longtime chairman of Breitbart News, a site known for its nationalist, racially charged, conspiracy-laden coverage — is likely to serve as a conduit to the populist right and conservative media outlets.

Breitbart News has accused President Obama of “importing more hating Muslims”; compared Planned Parenthood’s work to the Holocaust; called Bill Kristol, the conservative commentator, a “renegade Jew”; and advised female victims of online harassment to “just log off” and stop “screwing up the internet for men,” illustrating that point with a picture of a crying child.

The transition team appeared eager to ease concerns among Mr. Trump’s most fervent supporters over the selection of Mr. Priebus. To that end, the statement mentioned Mr. Bannon first.

“We had a very successful partnership on the campaign, one that led to victory,” Mr. Bannon said in the statement. “We will have that same partnership in working to help President-elect Trump achieve his agenda.”

Mr. Priebus said he looked forward to working with Mr. Bannon and Mr. Trump “to create an economy that works for everyone, secure our borders, repeal and replace Obamacare and destroy radical Islamic terrorism.”

The selection of Mr. Priebus to run the White House staff is partly a reflection of concern among Mr. Trump’s children, especially Ivanka Trump, as well as her husband, Jared Kushner, that the job should not be held by someone too controversial, according to several people familiar with the internal decision making.

But while Mr. Trump apparently feels comfortable with Mr. Priebus, the people with knowledge of the decision said that Mr. Bannon was better able to talk forcefully to the president-elect during difficult moments....

IF TRUMP IS HITLER, LOOK WHAT HITLER DID.

    Sit down before reading this.

Steve Bannon, officially the “chief strategist and senior counselor” to the president..

    WHO IS STEVE BANNON?

Trump names white nationalist figure ‘Chief Strategist to the President’

--- But Trump also named Steve Bannon, the executive chairman of Breitbart News, as “chief strategist and senior counselor” to the president. He will be one of Trump’s closest advisers and, one can presume, one of the most powerful people in America.

In his role at Breitbart, he promoted and legitimized the modern white supremacist movement, sometimes euphemistically referred to as the “alt-right.”

Ben Shapiro, who worked alongside Bannon for four years as Breitbart’s Editor-at-Large, wrote that Bannon “openly embraced the white supremacist alt-right.”

According to Shapiro, “Breitbart has become the alt-right go-to website… pushing white ethno-nationalism as a legitimate response to political correctness, and the comment section turning into a cesspool for white supremacist mememakers.”

Shapiro describes Bannon as “a vindictive, nasty figure, infamous for verbally abusing supposed friends and threatening enemies.”

Bannon gave a platform to Milo Yiannopoulos, a prominent white nationalist figure who was banned from Twitter for indicting racist abuse and harassment.

In March, Yiannapoulos wrote a lengthy article promoting the white nationalist alt-right on Breitbart that made an explicit argument for racial and ethnic segregation ---

"Determining voting rights based on grandparents sounds uncomfortably similar to Nazi Germany’s Nuremberg Laws of 1935, the sweeping antisemitic legislation that stripped Jewish people of basic civil rights. They could no longer hold public office and had no formal expectation to the right to vote.

The first amendment of the Nuremberg Laws defined a Jewish person not by religious beliefs, but by having three to four Jewish grandparents."

The Republicans already want to get rid of "anchor babies." I see the two related.

They are going to ethnically cleanse what this nation was built on an return it to their fantasy world revised history of a nation build on WHITE European Christianity.

Trump is no doubt copying Hitler whom he admires. The same type of admiration he has for Putin of Russia! That should scare the Hell out of ALL Americans!

I feel he'll be a fascist as to his style of governing and will end up making one giant mess of our country!

In the meantime, Americans need to care for their friends that are part of minorities as to their skin color, gays, Muslims and immigrants and their families. Trump and his bunch are going after ALL of them! They must be so frightened.

I just read where Paul Ryan plans to phase out Medicare in 2017. I'm on that - paid to have it when I retired while working, pay for it now and pay for my secondary to go with it. If it is not accessible, seniors will have to have huge amounts of savings to cover their medical expenses as they age.

I thought I'd be in good shape, but am truly worried when I see the cost of everything going up (I've been retired 9 years now) and insurance companies don't cover various things, so you have to come out of pocket. Check before you get the care! I think the companies will have more and more limitations as to what they'll cover due to the increases in medical costs/care.

I took great effort in saving (and still am). Now I pay more in monthly insurance premiums than for anything else. (I'm including medical, prescription drug insurance, house and vehicles in that cost!)

I suggest you be debt free when you retire. I am, but worry for myself and ALL of us, none the less!

And don't forget that medical practices, hospitals and pharma firms depend on Medicare as well despite all of their whining. At least, with Medicare, older people can seek medical care when they need it which is, I feel I must inform younger Americans, is more often than you might think.

There was a time, a couple of decades ago, when there was a proposal in California to make cataract surgery an elective one that insurance did not have to cover. As a person who had cataract surgery in both eyes while I was still in the work force, this is not elective surgery. The end result, if the surgery does not take place, is blindness. There would be a huge, no a "yuuge," number of blind people in California today if this nonsense had gone through.

The F.B.I. didn't prosecute Hillary because they wanted her to run for president and, hopefully, lose. Which she did. If they had prosecuted her, the dem's would have replaced her with Bernie. They figured he had a much better chance of beating Trump and they didn't want that. Besides, Pres. Obama could have pardoned her.

Nothing will happen until Trump is sworn in and Pres. Obama leaves office. Then, they will go after people in the State Dept., F.B.I., D.O.J., I.R.S. and others involved in the Clinton Foundation cover-ups. They have violated so many statutes, there are too many to list.

I've seen some people on T.V. questioning whether Pres. Obama will pardon Hillary, even though she hasn't been charged with anything, when he leaves office. He could do this but what about all the others involved in the crimes?

I'm a democrat who voted for Bernie and this is just my opinion...

Trump will likely sign legislation to impose government control over Google search results and those of other search engines.

For the record, a staffer I know who is very involved with the Trump cadre tells me that Trump's handlers very much want him to push legislation that would enable direct government control over search engine results (with Google the specific target). This would be a specific part of wide-ranging legislation that would attempt to limit free speech, to be passed and signed as soon as the Supreme Court is back to full strength with the first of what may be several right-wing Trump appointees.

The question isn't so much income as it is age. When people reach the age where Medicare becomes available, they realize that it simplifies the whole matter of going to the doctor for regular care and having the facilities available when tests and treatment are required (things that become more important as a person ages; believe me, it's where I am). Unless you are really, really wealthy, an older American has to depend on Medicare. It's a good system. It has worked well for decades. And it became better under President Obama. It could be the basis of a national healthcare system for everyone - if we had leaders who cared. Are Paul Ryan's parents, his aunts and uncles alive? Are they on Medicare? This nonsense about "vouchers" is just that - nonsense - just as school vouchers are nonsensical. It would be much like going to the grocery store with product coupons clipped from the newspaper ads. I can see it now: "One hundred dollars off for your heart attack" when you can't even afford to visit the doctor because his charge plus tests would be well over $2000.00, and forget about the medication that he might prescribe because you'll never be able to afford it for the rest of your life. And you'll die before you can afford an ambulance.

And, once they've gutted Medicare, they'll go for Social Security because the GOP has hated it viscerally since it was initiated in the 1930's under Franklin Roosevelt. The truth about Social Security is that no one gets rich while receiving its benefits but the reliable income does take some of the pressure off as expenses increase and income is no longer coming in. And what about SS disability payments? How happy will Sarah Palin be if those benefits are eliminated for Trig, a child who will never be able to earn a lot of money in the cruel world of the GOP? When Bush Jr. was in the White House there were several years when SS benefits did not increase at all. No older people complained. I read recently that there will be a very slight increase in SS payments next year: a couple of dollars more a month for each recipient. We older people don't complain but we do rely on the benefit. I think that we all fear that it might be taken away in a few minutes of GOP meanness and parsimony. I don't trust Paul Ryan and I don't trust Mitch McConnell.

There would have been "pros" and "cons" talked about. Some of the students might have been interested in reading more about the events of the previous century. Are teachers now supposed to teach that the hand of God has given us the orange emperor who will lie in repose in one of his gilded mansions while his GOP goons in Congress do the dirty work for him? Is the subject of history now going to be banned just as books were burned in 1930's Germany? Will all of his critics now have to shut up or face incarceration or worse? Instead of progressing the world may be suddenly reversing gears to one of its ugliest periods in recent centuries. And, during it all, the emperor will be reclining on his couch, counting his gold.

Mountain View and Los Altos is a very conservative area, full of software developers--Silicon Valley types. Very, very conservative and very narrow-minded.

  29. So, the FBI suppressed and covered up these ties before the election (and who knows for how long) but interfered with the election when it came to Hillary.

Exactly how much evidence is needed to bring down Comey and the FBI? This is working up to be worse than J. Edgar Hoover.
