The National Enquirer buys former Playboy model's story of her affair with Donald Trump, to keep it secret.

Trump with Karen McDougal.
Courtesy of the Daily Mail:

The National Enquirer's publishing company paid a Playboy model $150,000 for her story about having an affair with Donald Trump - but never ran it, sources have said.

Karen McDougal, the 1998 Playmate of the year, claimed she had a consensual relationship with Trump over several months beginning in 2006, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

But the National Enquirer didn't publish anything about McDougal's allegations, despite paying six figures for the information, according to people familiar with the matter and documents reviewed by the Wall Street Journal.

Trump married Melania, his third wife, in January 2005.

And there goes the last of the journalistic integrity that the Enquirer earned by reporting on the John Edwards affair story.

This is completely indefensible.

Besides its not like most Americans do not already simply ASSUME that Trump cheats on his wife, virtually everything we know about him would lead to that conclusion.

Still seeing the Enquirer do this offers a peek into how Trump "manages" unflattering press and keeps his "useful idiots" from learning the truth about him.

Quashing stories that way is known in the tabloid world as “catch and kill.”

In a written statement, the company said it wasn’t buying Ms. McDougal’s story for $150,000, but rather two years’ worth of her fitness columns and magazine covers as well as exclusive life rights to any relationship she has had with a then-married man. “AMI has not paid people to kill damaging stories about Mr. Trump,” the statement said.

Hope Hicks, a Trump campaign spokeswoman, said of the agreement with Ms. McDougal: “We have no knowledge of any of this.” She said that Ms. McDougal’s claim of an affair with Mr. Trump was “totally untrue.”

Ms. McDougal expected her story about Mr. Trump to be published, people familiar with the matter said. American Media didn’t intend to run it, said another person familiar with the matter. Ms. McDougal didn’t return calls for comment.

Why is it the NE is trash when it hides unflattering Trump news or derides Hillary, yet Malia Litman touts it as her source when bleating about Todd Palin and Shailey Tripp? For the record, I think it is a trashy, unreliable gossip rag in ALL cases. But we can't have it both ways, people!

I'll bet if she asked, she'd have people falling all over themselves to give her the $150,000 to pay them back if she'd just release that story.

Mr. Trump and American Media Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David J. Pecker are longtime friends. Since last year, the Enquirer has supported Mr. Trump’s presidential bid, endorsing him and publishing negative articles about some of his opponents.

In a written statement, Mr. Pecker said that it is no secret that he and Mr. Trump are friends and that he greatly admires him. However, he said, the Enquirer under his management “set the agenda” on Mr. Trump’s affair with Marla Maples when he was married to his first wife. “That in itself speaks volumes about our commitment to investigative reporting,” he said.

A contract reviewed by the Journal gave American Media exclusive rights to Ms. McDougal’s story forever, but didn’t obligate the company to publish it and allowed the company to transfer those rights. It barred her from telling her story elsewhere. The company said it also would give her monthly columns to write and would put her on magazine covers.

AMI said in a written statement the company was pleased to hire Ms. McDougal as a columnist.

Trump promoted the Marla Maples story. He bragged about the affair frequently while still married so the NE does not get any journalism awards.

Russian market had “natural strength, especially in the high-end sector,” and, “Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.” Which sounded a little odd after he said in the same speech, “As much as we want to take our business over there, Russia is just a different world. It is a question of who knows who, whose brother is paying off who. . . . It really is a scary place.” “Do you think Putin will be going to The Miss Universe Pageant in November in Moscow,” Trump tweeted that year. If so, “will he become my new best friend?” <NOAras Agalarov is an Azeri-born entrepreneur whose father was listed by Forbes as one of the 100 wealthiest Russians, with a net worth estimated at $1.33 billion by Forbes. His own son, Emin, a popular singer and dancer, is married to the daughter of Ilham Aliyev, the president of Azerbaijan.
It was through Agalarov that Trump advanced what likely was his main goal, using Miss Universe as a way to gain entry to Moscow’s politically keyed-in sector of developers and industrialists. This has been clear as day to anyone noticing the parade of NE headlines in recent months. Week after week of ludicrous, nasty stories about Clinton. I was on the ground and people were holding my arms, legs and I kept saying I can barely breathe. I was turning my neck just to get a little bit of air to keep from passing out."
That's when police intervened, taking Crites away in handcuffs.
Newton's partner, Donald Newton, 47, of Santa Rosa took video of the immediate aftermath.""I love all the people in that rally," he said. "We’re all fellow Americans. They’re doing their patriotic duty. They support their candidate. I’m just there showing that I’m a Republican. I’m all of your people’s brother. I just have a slight difference of opinion.""Take what happened to me tonight as a classic example of dictator incitement of violence — against your own Republican brother with a stupid sign," he wrote. The post and his entire account were taken down soon afterward as some Trump supporters on social media called him a "Clinton thug," "Hillary shill" and "Trump assassin."

Looking inside the numbers of the two-way horserace, Clinton is ahead of Trump among women (53 percent to 38 percent), African Americans (86 percent to 7 percent), Latinos (65 percent to 20 percent) and those ages 18-34 (55 percent to 32 percent).

    ….

Clinton leads among those who are early voters, 53 percent to 39 percent, while Trump is up among those who will wait to vote on Election Day, 48 percent to 41 percent.

The interesting point about the NBC/WSJ numbers is that Trump is not winning nationally by a big enough margin to overcome Clinton’s early voting lead.

It's hard to believe Trump has any friends, let alone ones that would go to these lengths to cover up his crimes and obscene behavior. I guess he has enough money to buy them off.

I want it all to come out after the election and MORE. To shut up all of the Deplorables with "TOLD YOU SO!", look at the criminal you worshipped. I want video! I don't want any doubt as to the monster they almost put in the Oval Office.

I want him convicted in the Trump U. fraud trial. Once he's found guilty of that, perhaps more will come forward to sue him, thinking that now they have a chance to win as well. Once that wall of silence and protection is breached, there will be no putting it back.
