Police say a toddler accidentally shot and wounded two other children at a home day care facility in suburban Detroit.
Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad says a preliminary investigation has determined that the toddler “accessed a handgun and the weapon discharged” at around 10:20 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said Thursday that the wounded 3 years olds are in serious but stable condition at a hospital.
Haddad says the gun was kept in the Dearborn home. Several other children were in the home at the time of the shooting. They were taken to the police station to be reunited with their parents.
No one has been charged. Police say investigators plan to meet with prosecutors to determine whether charges will be brought.
I guess I can kind of understand why somebody would want a gun in the house for protection.
Kind of.
But a gun in a home that also serves as a child care center?
And to leave it accessible to the children in your care?
No, that I will NEVER understand.
If only ALL the toddlers had guns to protect themselves......
ReplyDeleteyou can buy your little girl a pink gun. a real gun. little girl. as in 5 years old. you can get one for your son. my friend's wanted cow boy guns. the keep their guns safe, and i told her to by ones that looked like plastic toys. she findly found some. that was the year i bought the kid a viking helmlet-with horns.

DeleteStory i saw said that the daycare wasnt licensed and the woman running it has a bunch of kids hetself. Now theres a tragedy no longer waiting to happen. Im sure the NRA will say that the shooter was standing his groind and the other kids had thc in their systems
DeleteNo one has been charged. Why not? If a child has access to a lethal weapon and uses it to injure or maim other children, isn't the owner of that weapon held responsible?

well, they can't send a young child to prison. the parents should be held responsible. a fine, a week in jail, loss of gun and gun license. also attending a gun safety course. and putting the damn thing where a child can't find it. my dad had guns. he made good and sure we could not get to them, and when we older, he taught us how to use them. i don't hunt, so i don't have one. my father and i talked about one for my safety. i live alone,desided to put major locks on the doors and windows instead. i bought a sword, it's sharp and i know how to use it, and it cannot be remove from my hands(like a GUN). and who would be dumb enough to go after an angry three hundred pound woman with a sword?i am not known for my pleasant disposition.

Hmmmm. I'll bet the parents wanted to know if the cleaning products were secure and never asked if there was a weapon unsecured in the house. Since the police have not arrested anyone and this is in the burbs I figure there are no black, brown or muslims involved.

Stay-at-home mommy daycares are often a nightmare because they're never monitored. A neighbor of mine was doing that for the money, and she had up to 17 kids at any given time with just her as the provider (completely illegal) and she was a heavy smoker who'd go stand on her porch to smoke several times a day, leaving the kids alone inside the house to do whatever. I guess she's only lucky one of her children didn't find a loaded gun and shoot someone.
