Armed Right Wing militia members planning to hang around schools to "protect" them from lunatics with guns. Umm......

Courtesy of TPM:

Imagine if every school campus in the United States had its own volunteer security officer: a former police officer or military veteran equipped with an assault rifle.

That’s the dream of Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes.

In the wake of the February 14 massacre at a Parkland, Florida high school, Rhodes is calling on members of his far-right anti-government militia group to serve as unpaid and unaccountable armed school guards — whether teachers and students like the idea or not.

One Indiana Oath Keeper has already deployed to a local school, even though the school district says there’s no need for him to be there.

Rhodes wants the military and police veterans who make up Oath Keepers’ membership to volunteer for unpaid, rotating shifts at schools of all levels, and colleges, throughout the country. He and two other representatives of the fringe militia community will hold a webinar Monday night where they plan to encourage Oath Keepers to station themselves at schools “to protect the children against mass murder, and to help train the teachers and staff.”

“I think it’s essential,” Rhodes told TPM in a Monday phone call. “It’s part of our responsibility to do what we can.”

Of all of the extremely bad ideas I have heard this week, this might be the worst.

Some of these Rambo wannabes are just about as unhinged as the school shooters themselves, and having them racing into a school building full of children with their weapon drawn every time a car backfires is a terrifying thought indeed.

And can you imagine the police showing up and finding TWO assault weapon carrying individuals in the building decked out in camouflage clothing? Who would they shoot first?

No the answer is LESS guns, not MORE assault rifle toting idiots.

Trump won’t meet with AGs on guns

President Donald Trump said he wanted to meet with state attorneys general to hear their ideas about gun laws — he brought in two anti-gun-regulation Republicans, and the White House says that’s enough.

Trump won’t be meeting with a bipartisan group of AGs in Washington this week for the National Association of Attorneys General conference, as he did last year. After being told to leave part of Monday open to come to the White House, Democratic attorneys general have been told not to expect to see the president.

While Trump Is Stealing The Show, His Cronies Are Stealing Us Blind

I'm sick of hearing Trump, seeing Trump, laughing at Trump, agonizing over Trump. I'm sick of Donald J. Trump, the squatter in the White House, making a mockery of our presidency.

He's a president like a third rate comic spoofing the highest job in the land would be president. His stake is only in drawing an audience; he has no feeling for what the real job would be like. It's beyond his capacity to get that deep into the role, and nothing says he has to. He revels in his "free to be me" rhetoric and the crowds keep on coming.

A president, no matter his politics or biases, has to, at some point, recognize he's the leader of a country and not just the spokesman for his base. Donald can't do that. He snuggles into his base, comfy and worry-free, and if there are people screaming for his head on the outside, they're really, really bad, aren't they? (Chorus: We love you, Donald! Donald: Thank you! Thank you very much! Me, too!)

He came into politics as a reality star and he'll go out as a reality star. One quick read of his off-the-wall, stream-of-consciousness, look-at-me, CPAC speech the other day cements any claim that his main concern is, always has been, and always will be how people react to Donald Trump. (The transcript is here.)

He's not speaking to his country. He's not even speaking to all Republicans. He's rallying his fans.

...Trump runs his 24-hour-a-day clown act as a distraction, and the GOP loves him for it. While he's on stage they're free to go about their business--which has nothing to do with our business. They're putting in place right wing judges who hold life-time positions, cozying up and giving unprecedented power to gun lobbyists like the NRA, dissolving long-standing protections for women, children, minorities, the sick, the poor, and the working class. We barely recognize ourselves anymore.

We have real problems that need grown-up intervention. Trump is not going to be that grown-up. They can slap any label they want on him, including POTUS, but he'll never be anything but a callous showman doing a bad imitation of a real president.

Ahhh, good old Indiana, home of Mike Pence. I don't know "their" rules but, here in Oregon, you would have to get permission from the school board to do so; you just don't show up, else a nice little visit from the boys in blue.

Fewer guns, certainly not more. I met one an Oathkeeper once and he was beyond terrifying. In fact, I think my neighbor is one too. (This is Alaska.) My child was in a classroom that had an 8-year-old who wore camouflage every day and his mother also wore an assortment of bizarre survival crap on her camo belt. Her child was so unhinged he spent most of the day drawing violent scenes that caused other parents in the classroom to ask for an accounting of the kids’ situation. I cannot even imagine how the school addressed this, but was happy when they moved on. This was in the 1980s. I continually ask myself, what is driving our culture toward such violence? And, I can’t help but feel a part of it is the emphasis on the military. If Americans traveled more, they would understand how bizarrely this is viewed in other parts of the world that do not put so much emphasis on the military and the fear-mongering needed to make people pay for it.

You add *more* guns to the scenario...

(I'm sure this has been been discussed before, but it bears repeating)

      1) You immediately have a crossfire situation in the making. You've just complicated the situation, not solved it.

      2) With hysterical and panicking children running about, there's an astronomical chance of an accidental 'friendly fire' nightmare scenario playing out. And living with that guilt for the rest of your life.

      3) Once the *true* authorities arrive, how in gawd's green earth are they to truly know who's the 'good guy with a gun'? They are likely to be jacked up on adrenaline and when they see a gun, they are gonna go into 'take-em-down-mode'! Guaranteed! Why do you think those SWAT team members directed those kids in the classroom at Parkland to put their phones away? They wanted to see empty hands, to be sure there were NO weapons pointed anywhere! Didn't someone get shot by authorities recently in a church in Texas after they disarmed a man with a gun? How could the authorities magically know he was a 'good guy with a gun', hmmmm?

    2. All Delta has to do is say “screw you” and make plans to move their “hub.” They don’t even have to actually do it. Just threaten to do it and start making moves like they are.

I’ll bet South Carolina or North Carolina would chomp at the bit to be the new hub.

Delta will shun the NRA and they will get their fuel tax rescinded.

Might be a good move in the long run.

The Trump Organization announced that it is resolving all conflicts of interest by giving away profits from foreign governments. But it is refusing to provide any actual evidence of that beyond a mere say-so.

Instead, the company is attempting to appear transparent while not actually revealing any details or being accountable.

As the Chicago Tribune notes, “Neither the company nor the government disclosed the amount or how it was calculated.”

In a statement released on Monday following the announcement, Citizens for Responsibility for Ethics in Washington (CREW) attacked the announcement as doing basically nothing.

“This announcement is wholly inadequate,” CREW said. “There is no transparency as to how much money they donated, how they arrived at that number, how profits were calculated, or where the profits came from.”

CREW further notes that the Trump Organization’s plan “even if fully implemented, is woefully insufficient.”

The plan “only includes hotels, not all Trump businesses, only includes events, as they are not even trying to track payments for hotel rooms and meals, and only includes a nebulous ‘profit’ figure — not all payments — calculated at their discretion.”

“There is no independent oversight or accountability; we’re being asked to take their word for it,” CREW added. And even if the plan is implemented, “the taking of those payments would still be a problem under the Constitution.”

According to Daily Mail and Jordan Loewe, Track Palin was in Iraq as a contractor, early in their relationship. There is no evidence that is a fact, this is the only picture of Track claiming to be a contractor in Iraq. He could have been anywhere, that is all they have to claim he was working in Iraq.
    http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2018/01/15/17/4828E74900000578-5271733-image-m-12_1516037770082.jpg

Say it is a fact or an altered fact and he is a combat vet and he was again working in Iraq. If it is fact and Track had a job, that means the Palins would also be able to hook him up with other jobs and groups like the Oath Keepers.

When his record is cleared up and he gets off Track can go back to the great PR his family bestows on him. He is wonderful with children, a great father and uncle. He is trained by the Army and is to be a great marksman.

  22. Let me describe to you what we did twice a day for one week in Army Ranger training back in 1968.

The range is half the size of a football field -- same width, about 50 yards long. Two-foot tall metal stakes all over the field. Woven between the metal stakes is barbed wire, two feet off the ground -- so, you have a muddy area half the size of a football field with barbed wire covering it, two feet off the ground.

At odd places in the field are rectangles made of old railroad ties. Inside the rectangles are explosive charges.

At the far end of the range are three machine guns, permanently mounted on cement bases, fixed so they fire across the field four feet above the ground.

    The drill is this:
-- At night, never during the day.
-- We had all our gear with us -- web gear, rucksacks, rifles
-- The field was soaked -- sloppy, slimy mud
-- Flop down and crawl, under the barbed wire, from the starting end of the field toward the machine guns.
-- The machine guns fire live ammunition, four feet over us as we crawled toward them.
-- If you run into one of the railroad tie structures, you must feel your way around it because the range controllers remotely detonate explosive charges inside the railroad tie enclosures.
-- Meanwhile, you are crawling, snagging on the barbed wire, scared shitless at the machine gun rounds snipping overhead.
-- At the end of the field, stand up, and charge past the machine guns into an obstacle course of ditches to jump over, berms to crawl over, pop-up targets to fire at . . .

    And that, folks, is training . . . TRAINING . . . not combat.

Meanwhile, Cadet Bone Spurs tells me he'll charge into a building to take out a guy with an AR-15.

    Of course he will.

The school would go into immediate lockdown. School police would be notified who in turn would notify local police.
They would converge on the school and treat this asshole like he was a threat. He would be arrested, booked, guns confiscated and if he didn’t make bail, held until his hearing at which point he would be charged. Not sure of the specifics but I’m sure there are a handful of charges that would slap some reality check upside his head.
