It's always nice when the old gods give a shout out to the new kids on the block, don't you think?

And just imagine if their worshipers had never existed Christians would have had to invent all of their celebrations from scratch.

So much easier to steal other people's hard work than to do it all yourself.

This is a big day my friends.

Not only is it a day off of work for most of us, it is also the day that our President will have his second swearing in. This one in front of a huge crowd in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C..

And in fact the two celebrations will be combined.

When President Obama is ceremonially sworn into office tomorrow (January 21) in Washington D.C., he will use two bibles. 

One bible is the bible that Martin Luther King Jr. owned and traveled with, and the other bible will be a bible owned by 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, which was used during his first inaugural ceremony. 

Dr. King’s Bible is the same Bible used when Dr. King gave his first sermon at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in 1950. 

It is also the same traveling Bible that Dr. King actually used just before he was assassinated in 1968. 

When he is sworn into office, Obama will face the Lincoln Memorial where Dr. King delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech 50 years ago. 

“We know our father would be deeply moved to see President Obama take the oath of office using his Bible,” King’s children said in a statement provided by the inaugural committee. “His traveling Bible inspired him as he fought for freedom, justice and equality, and we hope it can be a source of strength for the president as he begins his second term.” 

The theme of this year’s inauguration is “Our People, Our Future,” and it is believed that as many as 800,000 people will be on hand for the celebration that will ceremoniously swear Obama into office.

It is going to be QUITE the shindig and I have every expectation that it will be one for the history books. Which considering this IS the first black president, being sworn in for his second term, kind of goes without saying.

Happy Birthday Mr. President!

I just wanted to take a moment to say happy birthday to one of the best presidents we have had in this country, and perhaps the BEST one we have had in my lifetime.

Let's give him the birthday gift of helping him to keep his job for four more years, shall we?

P.S. The Republicans used the President's birthday as an opportunity to take a political shot at him, but instead demonstrated a rather startling lack of comprehension:

The Republican National Committee (RNC) yesterday sent President Barack Obama a cake for his birthday, and inscribed on it, “You Didn’t Bake This,” a reference to the President’s comments that success is mutually attained. 

Of course, the President didn’t bake that cake — obviously — and in stating the obvious, the RNC both endorsed the President’s vision, and proved themselves, well, ignorant in the humor department.

Okay seriously, HOW do these people keep winning elections?

I thought we might class the place up a little bit.

I really appreciate that the Obama's brought class and dignity back to the White House. Those last eight years were reminiscent of the Clampett's moving to Beverly Hills.

The President seems to be to having an especially good time.

Already dreading that whole "War on Christmas" debate again this year? Here let me help.

Now before everybody starts getting pissy with me and accusing me of attacking Christmas, let me just say that is untrue. In fact I LOVE Christmas, and unlike some people, am perfectly happy saying "Merry Christmas" as opposed to "Happy Holidays."

Of course part of the reason for that is because I know the real Christmas story. (If you are somebody who does not enjoy learning that your preconceived notions about this holiday are all hooey, I beg you NOT to click this link. You clicked it didn't you?)

In fact this so-called "War on Christmas" is NOT the creation of liberals or atheists at all, and in fact was initially waged by those Christian hating Puritans! Wait, what?
