The irony of seeing voters yell for Trump’s arrest barely two months into his presidency is simply delicious. Trump campaign advisor Gen. Michael Flynn began the “LOCK HER UP” chant at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland last summer. Now it’s Michael Flynn who is desperately trying to avoid jail while voters scream for Trump’s imprisonment.
Life comes at you fast, as they say.
As the investigation into President Trump and his team’s potentially treasonous collusion with agents of the Russian Federation during the 2016 election gains steam, it’s looking likelier than ever that these Arkansas voters might soon get their wish.
How long have we been waiting to see the tables turn like this?
And the great thing is that unlike when they chanted this about Hillary, THIS time there are actual crimes for which Trump should and could face jail time.
Hundreds of people shouted down Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) at a town hall he held in his home district on Thursday night, with many yelling “Do your job!” at the chair of the House Oversight Committee.
Chaffetz has come under fire for taking few actions against either Donald Trump’s international business empire and the potential conflicts of interest it creates, or pushing Trump to release his tax returns. As the chair of the committee tasked with investigating “waste, fraud, and abuse” in the federal government, Chaffetz is perhaps the government official with the most power to check Trump’s unprecedented potential to leverage the White House for private gain.
But so far, Chaffetz has issued no subpoenas, called for no hearings, and scheduled no meetings to investigate Trump's potential abuse of the office. (He has asked the General Services Administration for documents related to Trump’s hotel in DC, and on Thursday called Kellyanne Conway “wrong, wrong, wrong” for publicly endorsing Ivanka Trump’s label.) Critics have pointed out that Chaffetz was relentless in his investigation of the executive branch during President Barack Obama’s administration, particularly over Hillary Clinton’s role in the Benghazi scandal.
And remember Chaffetz as recently as last month has said that he will continue investigating Hillary Clinton over that bullshit e-mail infraction, and yet he has done NOTHING about the almost countless infractions coming from Doanld Trump and his administration.
He is a partisan POS and I am VERY glad that he is being called out publicly for it.
I swear I am staring to get all excited again about the future of our country.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon's national headquarters closed its chapter at the University of Oklahoma Sunday after a video emerged purportedly showing members of the chapter singing a racist chant.
The video quickly gained visibility online. It was obtained and posted to Twitter by Unheard, which describes itself as "an alliance of black students organized for change within campus administration and atmosphere." The video shows young men on a bus chanting, "There will never be a n----r at SAE."
The tweet, directed at OU president David Boren, said "Racism is alive at The University of Oklahoma."
As somebody on another site pointed out this is not a made up on the spot chant. This is a chant that was taught to these students and that they repeated multiple times in the past.
It is a good start to punish this fraternity, but let's face it this type of racism is deeply ingrained in that part of the country and it certainly will not stop overnight.
Despite what the Republicans and the Supreme Court might say, racism is still alive and well in 2015 America.
Paul Ryan has gone rogue. He is unleashed, unchained, off the hook.
“I hate to say this, but if Ryan wants to run for national office again, he’ll probably have to wash the stench of Romney off of him,” Craig Robinson, a former political director of the Republican Party of Iowa, told The New York Times on Sunday.
Coming from a resident of Iowa, a state where people are polite even to soybeans, this was a powerful condemnation of the Republican nominee.
Though Ryan had already decided to distance himself from the floundering Romney campaign, he now feels totally uninhibited. Reportedly, he has been marching around his campaign bus, saying things like, “If Stench calls, take a message” and “Tell Stench I’m having finger sandwiches with Peggy Noonan and will text him later.”
Even before the stench article appeared, there was a strong sign that Ryan was freeing himself from the grips of the Romney campaign. It began after his disastrous appearance on Friday before AARP in New Orleans.
Ryan delivered his remarks in the style dictated by his Romney handlers: Stand behind the lectern, read the speech as written and don’t stray from the script.
Ryan brought his 78-year-old mother with him and introduced her to the audience, which is usually a sure crowd pleaser.
But when Ryan began talking about repealing “Obamacare” because he said it would harm seniors, one woman in the crowd shouted, “Lie!” Another shouted “Liar!” and the crowd booed Ryan lustily.
Who boos a guy in front of his 78-year-old mother? Other 78-year-old mothers.
That was Friday, and that was the end of Ryan following the game plan. At a certain point, all running mates on failing campaigns feel they must break free from the manacles placed on them by the top of the ticket. Sarah Palin began pursuing her own path once she learned that John McCain was having strategy sessions with his morning bowl of Farina.
"The Stench?" Holy crap I don't think that even Palin was THAT dismissive of the man at the top of her ticket!
You know I have said it before, but it bears repeating, NOBODY who knows Mitt Romney seems to like him. Apparently Ryan is just the most recent of the Republicans to find themselves put off by Mitt the Twit's arrogance and creepy lack of any definable human traits.
And I think Romney is becoming aware that HE is the drag on the ticket. Did you see his incredibly awkward attempt to hijack a chant for Ryan and try to get them to chant for BOTH of them?
Ooh, EPIC FAIL!
Gee I wonder what this failed VP candidate will call the book HE writes about how the soon to be defeated campaign put him in a box and would not let "Ryan be Ryan?"
Update; Apparently the Politico piece was written as satire. However it was so close to the perception that everybody has concerning the Romney/Ryan relationship that it has been reported as fact all over the internet and on a few news shows as well.
