From Gawker:
Lee's sudden exit took many people by surprise. Hadn't other members of Congress admitted to worse than an unconsummated, PG-13 flirtation and managed to stay in office? It turns out Lee may have had good reason to step out of the spotlight so quickly: It wasn't just women that the Craigslist Congressman was hunting for on the Internet.
In the past two weeks, two D.C.-area transgender women contacted us, each with a separate story about exchanging emails with the ex-congressman. One sent us an ad that Lee allegedly posted on Craigslist in search of trans women; the other sent us a never-before-seen photo that she says Lee sent her after they started chatting by email. Taken together, they present a possible explanation to those who have wondered why such a tame "sex scandal" forced Lee's hand so quickly.
Wow! Counting David Vitter's penchant for prostitution in Louisiana, Ted Haggard's totally "non-gay" gay sex and methamphetamine use with a male prostitute in Colorado, Senator Larry Craig's "wide stance" concerning male on male bathroom sex in airports, and Todd Palin's luring of impressionable young women into prostitution in Alaska, I would say when it comes to sex scandals and hypocrisy the conservative males have their more liberal counterparts beat by mile. And I was not even counting the $2,000 the RNC spent at an S&M club last year.
So clearly the Conservatives preaching "family values" is akin to Charlie Sheen preaching about the perils of drugs and alcohol or Bristol Palin talking about abstinence. Oh wait, that last one actually happened.
Okay I just don't understand. Please explain to me what he was planning to do with these transgender peoples..... Or is Chris Lee transgender himself?
ReplyDeleteWalking on the wild side is just not my thing so excuse me for asking...be gentle!
Hey, in all fairness, Charlie Sheen has never preached about the perils of drugs-no hypocrisy there!
ReplyDeleteGee, I dunno. Maybe it's Congressman Lee's way of convincing himself that "liking guys" is okay as long as they look like women.
ReplyDeleteThe moral hypocrisy of the right wing, fundamentalist, 'christians' is appalling. Do as I say, not as I do.
ReplyDeleteUh, Gles, probably the same thing hetero guys do with female prostitutes.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the married congressman was on Craigs list looking for long term relationships , do you?
Word on the internets is Todd Palin has had his share of Brokeback mountain encounters, also too, but not with transgenders, mostly twinks. Just a rumor of course.
He was MY congressman and I am certainly glad to be rid of him. He never voted the way I wanted him to, and every time I wrote him about an issue I would get back a form letter that showed no one in his office had paid attention to what I said.
ReplyDeleteEveryone living around here thought there must be more to the story of his quitting, and now we are finding out what it is.
However, we will probably just get another right wing nut voted in, because this is a conservative rural and suburban district. There is no election scheduled yet.
OK, so does transgender refer to men who became women or women who became men in this case?
ReplyDeleteYou forget- the Palin- Lee model of family values "Christian" Republicans means do what we say, not what we do.
ReplyDeleteThe moral standards are for the masses, not the elite jet setting bendy straw folks- or their spawn.
Now that's a surprise!
ReplyDeleteWho could have ever suspected something like this?
Betcha there are a few Republicans trying to figure out how to ask someone a discrete question or two.
Off the record.
Like- "So is that Craigslist thingie actually connected to the innertubes?"
Maybe- "But there were some legitimate reasons to be using that adult services thingie-weren't there? Hypothetically speaking I mean- like if someone had possibly been somewhere like that I mean?"
I don't know if I'd say its more of a conservative problem by any means. Not when the office of the presidency and most politicians regardless of party engage in adulterous/immoral activity. However, once clintons skeletons fell out I do believe the shame factor became that much more non existent. Sex sells. It doesn't bring down anyone anymore. People are forgiving creatures and know everyone is human and makes mistakes.
ReplyDeleteThe bad news is, conservative voters don't lead sordid lives. However, liberal voters do moreso than their counterparts. We need to teach the value in individuality without loss of integrity. Because neither party shows moral character.
When huckabee is the only honest politician in either party and his religion holds him bacl, America has a problem
I'd elect a polite southern gentleman with no college degree but has a good heart and solid mind sooner than I'd elect a phd scholar who has no work experience to his name. That's common sense. It cannot be denied. Elitism and nepotism is never a good thing. Working for 6 years in. NYC govt proves this to me.
ReplyDeletePeople who've never had to work for anything make horrible leaders. See current white house
Gles, the latest edition of The Joy of Sex or The Joy of Gay Sex might offer suggestions. Otherwise, I think one's imagination might suffice. hehe
ReplyDeleteAs a sweet young thing way back when I remember buying The Joy of Sex and a volume on sex by an Austrian physician (very technical but very, very good. Newer editions have broadened their scope by leaps and bounds. Unfortunately, the subject is more academic to me now. Sigh.
Virginia Voter, please do not use the term "twinks" for homosexuals. We are mostly grown-ups here. No need to use derogatory slang. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteRepublicans, thy name is Hypocrites.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that moderates have left the party because most of them are fair and decent folks. It's the right-wingers that go into fringe activities in all spheres of their lives.
A bit OT but this is so good.

Transgender can refer to either sex...transmen or transwomen. He apparently was trying to cruise for transwomen, born male but had sexual reassignment surgery and hormone therapy. After their transitions and surgery, they are able to have sex like any other woman. I've seen transwomen who could teach us bio women a lot about female beauty. Anyway, he probably just got turned on by the "naughtiness" of it all. The guy's a sleaze no matter who he was after.
ReplyDeleteI so dislike the majority of the Republicans!
ReplyDeleteJamie Foster calls Palin a Fruit Loop for critizing Michelle Obama..

Put congressional interns scandal in google thinking something had happened like that.
ReplyDeleteWikipedia had this one .
The Mark Foley scandal, which broke in late September 2006, centers on soliciting e-mails and sexually suggestive instant messages sent by Mark Foley, a Republican Congressman from Florida, to teenaged boys who had formerly served as congressional pages. Investigation was closed by the FDLE on September 19, 2008 citing insufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges as both "Congress and Mr. Foley denied us access to critical data,” said FDLE Commissioner Gerald Bailey
But there were an number of other congressional intern scandals that turned up. Some bipartisan flavor, but mostly Republican illictry of the various types.
More than one!
Earlier in the same evening, Lee was out drinking with Bill Shuster (R), my Representative. Apparently, Lee, Shuster and another Baltimore-bar-hopping Republican, Duncan Hunter, had already been admonished for drinking and being way too familiar with female lobbyists. Way more to the story, I'm sure. I'm sorry for these hypocrites' wives.
ReplyDeleteGryph, are you going to do some more union posts? I was at the Sacramento rally today. My husband got shoved by a teabagger so he shoved the guy back. The teabaggers were extremely obnoxious. We were fairly well behaved unless we got too close to those jerks. If you listen to them for a few minutes you have a strong urge to smack them. I ended up yelling things like, "Teachers, not Kochheads" and "Go to Walmart and buy some crappy Chinese stuff" and "Stop watching Fox News and read a book!" I almost got trompled by a mounted cop, but so far the only arrest was a teabagger. I hope it was the asshole with the microphone. He sounded drunk.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the poor guy's just a Madame Butterfly enthusiast ;>)
ReplyDeleteOh and: @Anons 1:08 and 1:13 (most likely the same person)
Time for your meds.
Bwahahahaha er..um...gag
But you know Repugs.....they ALWAYS have a "Christian" excuse for everything-- I'm a sinner, Satan got me, bla bla bla bla bla.....
ReplyDeleteTo 1:42. I so dislike all politicians and their friggin games. Why can't good people run for office for once? Why do the few good people stay at a local level?
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the day when a sex scandal with a transgendered person is no worse than a sex scandal with anyone else. A sex scandal is a sex scandal. A transgenered person is a person, not a "worse" person that anything they do, or anything anyone else does with them, is somehow "worse" than what everyone else does.
ReplyDeleteUntil rightwingers can control their own sexuality, they need to shut the fuck up about anyone else's.
ReplyDelete1:08, you are clearly deluded if you can't admit that conservatives are more likely to lead more sordid lives. It's almost unavoidable, what with the repression and the built in shield of hypocrisy. Liberals are more likely to lead unconventional lives, which is a far cry from sordid. Sordid implies secrecy and shame....conservative hallmarks. I LOLed when you brought up Clinton. He's practically a boy scout compared to almost any right winger out there.

Because once you get to the state level, you have real power, so to get there is to sell your soul - Let's Make A Deal!

There's only a difference to the rightwingers who really believe that all sex is wrong - an impossible standard of course - but of course since anything "different" is bad then this is worse.
It must be terrible to live in fear of absolutely everything. I guess that's why they use fear so effectively.
Wow, facing the reality of the truly lurid GOP underbelly must be unnerving. See how they flock here hoping to score some points and alleviate their shame.
ReplyDeleteIt takes a truly ignorant fuckwit to imagine that President Obama has not worked hard to achieve his success. Braying about an imagined lack of leadership don't make it true.
1:22, even adults have a sense of humor. Virginia Voter was speaking tongue in cheeck.
ReplyDeleteAnon. 1:13, I'm going to have to dust off my neo-con nut decoder ring for your post.
ReplyDeleteWhen you say you'd take a "polite southern gentlemen with no college degree..." is that code for 'I'd vote for a ham sandwich. As long as it has an "R" next to it's name.' Or do you prefer your "Southern gentlemen" as hikers on the Old Appalachian Trail?
Is the word "elitist" code for 'educated above a fifth grade level?
When you pine for good old fashioned "common sense" is that code for 'word salads and bumper sticker slogans and no solutions are A OK with me?'
And no neo-CON post is ever complete with the one two punch on the way out to Obama such as "People who never have to work for anything make horrible leaders. See current White House.." is of course code for 'I will completely ignore the fact the POTUS can proudly put on his resume: Harvard Law Review President, Constitutional lawyer, Senator, Author, Community Organizer, Presidential Candidate, Nobel Prize Winning President and hitch a wagon instead on a ex beauty queen, mayor of tiny town, failed VP candidate, half term governor, Author in name only, fox news spokes model, part time mother, full time tweeter and face book blogger because she had you at "you betcha?"
I won't hold my breath for your response.
Anon @ 12:52 PM
ReplyDeleteI am also in his (former) district and got several of the same kind of form letters from his office when I complained about his votes.
Unfortunately, I fear you're correct about another right winger getting elected to that seat. From what I've heard so far, the Democratic field is looking pretty darn slim.
President Obama hasn't worked hard for anything??? I can't think of many who have worked harder.... my guess is esp. NOT Anon 1:13! Honestly, you OBVIOUSLY don't have ANY idea what you're talking about and are wasting your time saying it here. IGNORANT is what you are.
