Gabby Giffords seeks to achieve closure on 2011 shooting by helping to elect aide to her Congressional seat

Courtesy of CBS News:

Roughly one year earlier, Giffords was one of 19 people shot at a "Congress at your corner" event that she was hosting in a Safeway parking lot in Tucson. Six people died in the attack, in which Giffords was shot in the head; she left Congress to concentrate on her recovery, setting up today's special election to serve out the rest of her term.

Among those shot in the attack was the 66-year-old Barber, who at the time was a Giffords aide; his campaign has argued that he will continue Giffords' work in Congress, an argument amplified by Giffords appearance at a campaign event for Barber over the weekend.

Giffords said little at the get-out-the-vote rally and concert, offering only a brief thank you, but her husband, retired astronaut Mark Kelly, told supporters the election was "a little bit about closure."

"This is closure on Gabby's career in Congress," he said. "It wasn't when she resigned in January."

Giffords' decision to campaign for Barber "makes a huge difference because of her enormous popularity and her bravery in dealing with the assassination event and all she has meant to southern Arizona," said Chip Scutari, the Republican half of bipartisan Arizona public relations firm Scutari and Cieslak, who predicts it will help drive up turnout for Barber today.

In part because of Barber's close ties to Giffords, Republicans have sought to turn the race into a referendum on Mr. Obama. It's a strategy that makes sense in a district in which registered Republicans outnumber registered Democrats by more than 25,000 people, according to the Arizona Secretary of State's office. Giffords' victory over Jesse Kelly in the 2010 election was one of the narrowest in the nation, and it was a "testament to Gabby's skill and personality that she was able to win in a leaning-Republican district," said Arizona-based Democratic political consultant Barry Dill.

Turning the President into the boogeyman and then using him to smear any Democrat running  for office seems to be the methodology for the GOP, though I do not think it has muhc chance of tarnishing Giffords sterling reputation, nor those whom she endorses.

And Barber is not just an associate, or aide to Gifords, he was literally somebody who spilled blood on the same sidewalk the day that she was almost assassinated by a madman.

I think Giffords looks really, really good, but it is clear that she is still struggling to regain control of her body. and her ability to speak.  I swear it breaks my heart every time I hear her struggle to form the most rudimentary sentences.

I have to say that I really hope that Barber gets this seat. Not just because the Dems need a solid win, but also because I know it would really get under a certain Grizzled Mama's skin.

Every time I see Gabby's smiling face, I'm reminded of what true grace and dignity is. I tend to forget that from seeing skank ass, nasty, hateful, bitch Palin's face on this blog. Palin wouldn't know grace, dignity, or even true Christian behavior if they jumped up and bitch-slapped her. What a disgusting waste of skin the Tundra Turd is.

    1. You know I like to laugh and make fun of Baldy and her ill bred gang but when I am reminded about the tragedy in Arizona and I see Gabby face...I feel a serious white hot rage towards that bald headed bag of bones from the dead lake of Lucille and I have to take a deep breath!

Christina Taylor Green was only 9 years old and Baldy CAUSED her DEATH! That is her legacy....DEATH of an innocent little girl who was going to meet for the first time her Congresswoman.

When Baldy gets to hell and meets Satan...even he will probably be disgusted by her.

*GinaM spits on the ground in pure unadulturated disgust*

When Tundra Turd gets to hell, she - the spawn of Satan - will merely say, "Hi, Dad! How's it goin'?" Her road-kill wigs hide the Mark of the Beast.

  2. Sarah Palin will forever (and rightfully) be linked to this horrific act. Especially after Gabby called her out on her irresponsible use of cross-hairs before the shooting. Then came the "Blood Libel" 'Sarah's the real victim here' video to even further DEMONstrate Sarah's evil mind.

Go Barber!! And let's really piss off the Wasilla Harpy with a Democratic LANDSLIDE in November!!! KARMA, Baby.

  3. Thank you for posting this Gryphen, she looks radiant and beautiful despite the long arduous road to recovery she's on, it's heartening to see her sweet smile she truly is an inspiration. This nation has a very short half memory, we mustn't forget this tragedy nor the six dead, it's so true that if we forget the past we're doomed to repeat it, Palin malevolent rubble rousing is no longer wide reaching but it is not entirely gone yet, there are still too many ignorant violent cons out there just itching to "water the tree of liberty".

  4. I just heard that Barber has a twelve point lead going into the election. That might mean a win for him minus the voter suppression. It seems that only a ten point lead or higher can ensure a Democratic win in any election post Citizens United.

Maybe it's Gabby Sarah is trying to look like, not Rachel Maddow. Doesn't matter Gabby has inner beauty as well as outer, something Sarah will never have.

It's sick. Remember when she wore the same green color as gabby the day after? Sarah has no identity of her own so she has to imitate others like a true psychopath.

OMG it IS sick. We forget that Sarah's attention span is about 5 seconds unless she is being paid..there's no way she has ever watched Maddow.
Did she dare to endorse Kelly for this race? Or did she keep her idiocy to herself for once?

Gee, I thought she was going after the Rachel maddow look....intelligent and educated....okay add compassionate and caring.

So Snowdrift Skank could be trying to look like Gabby, but I really don't think she considers Gabby Giffords relevant to anything. Like duh, she isn't even on the boobtube like Rachel...just sayin..:)

Never forget that Sarah Palin's crosshairs map destroyed Gabby's promising political career. She shall never be forgiven. Karma will not be kind.

Sarah's the victim here. She campaigned her background as the Annie Oakley of the north. A gun toting marksman and seasoned hunter with the fierce battle cry of don't retreat, reload. Puts up crosshair maps of districts she intends to target.

The unthinkable happens and Sarah backpedals to victimhood. It's not what you think. That's not me at all. Well we know that cause you can't even hold a gun properly but at that point, it was a little too late. It was her bullshit that hit the fan.

Shameful there was no apology from her.

  9. It's over $arah's head why Gabby is beloved and $he is not...

    OT:
Gryphen ~ are you planning to weigh in on Jerry Sandusky's trial?

People who haven't suffered childhood sexual abuse find the proceedings sickeningly horrific. Survivors of c-s-a find the proceedings cathartic...

... i'm sure you have readers in both categories.

The wingnut running against her is C.R.A.Z.Y.

    I hope Gifford's aid wins.

Good thing is, if he does win, he'll have to duke it out again - he won't have a full term.

I cast my ballot for Ron Barber this morning. This is predicted to be a close race but I'm hoping the last minute campaigning will put Ron over the top. I worked with Ron over 30 years ago when he and I worked for AZ DDD (Department of Developmental Disabilities). He's a good man and will represent our district well.

    Sheesh

Thank you for posting this Gryphen. I get very upset when I see how Gabby is still struggling and that pig Sarah Palin is still grifting and running her mouth off, and flitting around on these reality shows and guest appearances.

It makes me so mad, I just seethe with anger. What Gabby contributed to this country and her district compared to the worthless pile of crap that is Palin, who contributes nothing and takes from others just burns.

I hope for the day when Palin goes to jail for any number of her fraudulent activities, of which there are many.
