Okay so if you're like me your first response to this is derisive laughter.
Which is actually my response to a lot of things that Sarah Palin says, wears, or gives birth to.
However then I took a moment to give this a little thought, ie the coffee kicked in, and it occurred to me that in fact Sarah Palin had been a source of inspiration.
For instance when I first heard that Palin had been selected as John McCain's running mate, I determined to learn more about her.
And I did.
Not only that but I was also inspired to look into all facets of corruption up here in Alaska and elsewhere. (Talk about the stuff of nightmares.)
I was also inspired to give voice to those who had stories to tell about the Palins that were being ignored by the MSM. (Though not always.)
I was inspired to help those who had been hurt by the Palins and had no place to voice their frustrations.
And finally I was inspired to spend more time working on this blog, which up to the day of the announcement that Palin was McCain's running mate had sort of been an afterthought.
So, and I cannot believe I am saying this, thank you Sarah Palin for inspiring me.
And doesn't it feel good to know that you are partially responsible for the success of IM?
Oh don't bother answering, the look in your eyes says it all.
Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey

Bill Maher eviscerates Ronald Reagan for being the original Teabagger.
Courtesy of Mediaite:
“He was patient zero for everything you’re fighting against now. He was the original teabagger. Stop agreeing he was a saint, especially when his two miracles were turning water into polluted water and walking on the poor.”
I loved this so much that I was literally cheering during the segment.
The Republican deification of Reagan is so over the top that it has essentially evolved into religious zealotry, which means that when the Right Wing gets a load of this they are going to lose their shit. (For some of the older teabaggers that will mean quite literally.)
Which of course I see as a good thing.
P.S. By the way if HBO does what it usually does then my embedded YouTube video will eventually get blocked. If that happens just click the Mediaite link and you will still get the chance to watch the segment. And believe me, you definitely want to watch the segment.

Alaska Senator Mark Begich comes out in favor of marriage equality. Well, duh! Update!
Courtesy of Buzzfeed:
After remaining mum on the subject when asked about it last week, Sen. Mark Begich's office issued a statement Monday night from the senator supporting marriage equality.
"I believe that same sex couples should be able to marry and should have the same rights, privileges and responsibilities as any other married couple," the Alaskan senator said in what appears to be his first direct statement on the subject.
"Government should keep out of individuals' personal lives—if someone wants to marry someone they love, they should be able to. Alaskans are fed up with government intrusion into our private lives, our daily business, and in the way we manage our resources and economy," he continued.
To be honest I am only reporting on this because it is MY Senator who made this statement.
My assumption is that now with both President Obama and Hillary Clinton having voiced their support for marriage equality that it is only a matter of time until ALL Democrats jump on board.
Now in my opinion the REAL news will be when our other Senator, Lisa Murkowski, decides to come out in favor of gay marriage. Especially since she has voted in support of the 2006 amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman.
Of course as we know 2006 was light years away politically and today this country is in a much different place. So the question is how long can she, and other Republicans, hold out?
Update: Here is rather a interesting timeline which demonstrates who came out in favor of marriage equality, and when.

Alabama High School teacher's homophobia and rant against First Lady caught on tape.
Courtesy of Times Daily:
School district officials are investigating allegations that a Lauderdale County High School teacher made slurs in the presence of students regarding first lady Michelle Obama and gays. Superintendent Jennifer Gray confirmed the investigation concerns the school’s head football coach, Bob Grisham, who also teaches driver’s education and psychology.
The investigation includes a 1-minute, 24-second audiotape of Grisham asking who knows who is behind the 600-calorie school lunch.
“Fat butt Michelle Obama,” he said. “Look at her. She looks like she weighs 185 or 190. She’s overweight.”
Male voices interject comments during the discussion, at one point referring to Michelle Obama as a “fat gorilla.”
Later in the tape, Grisham referred to the U.S. as going in the “wrong direction” and tells the students they can “get pissed off at me or not. You can go tell the principal, call the superintendent and tell her. I don’t believe in queers. I don’t like queers, I don’t hate them as a person, but what they do is wrong and an abomination against God.” The tape was reportedly recorded by a student Monday and took place on school campus during the school day.
Grisham told the TimesDaily on Wednesday afternoon he misspoke. “I misspoke in a debate-type situation,” he said. “I have no hatred toward anyone or any group. People that know my heart, they know that.”
Gray said a link to the audio recording was sent to her in an email. “It’s an unfortunate situation, and we hope to clear this up as soon as possible,” Gray said.
No action has been taken against Grisham by the district’s administration or the school board. He was not at school Wednesday, and Gray said he has family obligations that were expected to keep him out of school the rest of the week.
And this guy made these comments in front of his students?
You know I am usually a huge supporter of teacher, and almost always give them the benefit of the doubt, but fuck this guy. He needs to lose his job and NEVER be around kids again!
I can only imagine the kinds of things he has said in the past that DIDN'T get recorded.

The response to President Obama's new gun control plan from the Right Wing is...well as crazy as you would expect it to be. Update!
![]() |
"If'n they come fer our guns we gonna lock'em right up!" |
Saying Americans should be able to 'defend themselves from tyranny,' state Rep. Joe Carr said today he is proposing a bill that would allow federal agents to be arrested for enforcing new gun-control laws.
Isn't suggesting a response like THAT to law enforcement kind of the reason that Alaska terrorist Schaeffer Cox is doing time in Federal prison right now?
Looks like old Schaeffer might get him a bunk mate.
And he better have a roomy bunk because even BEFORE the President outlined his plan Texas Rep. Steve Toth was making similar plans to handcuff federal agents:
Republican Rep. Steve Toth told WOAI 1200-AM that his Firearms Protection Act will make trying to enforce a federal gun ban in the state subject to a $50,000 fine and up to five years in prison.
"At some point there needs to be a showdown between the states and the federal government over the Supremacy Clause," Mr. Toth said. "It is our responsibility to push back when those laws are infringed by King Obama."
"King Obama?" Isn't this idiot being a tad melodramatic?
In Mississippi they simply decided to make laws against the new laws, making those laws no longer laws. Can they do that?
In a letter sent to his lieutenant governor and the state speaker of the house that was posted on his Facebook page, Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant (R) on Wednesday called for immediate legislation that would make any "unconstitutional order" on gun policy taken by President Barack Obama "illegal to enforce in Mississippi by state and local law enforcement."
Bryant wrote that the president's executive order on guns — Obama and Vice President Joe Biden actually unveiled 23 executive actions on Wednesday — would likely infringe on the Second Amendment "as never before in American history."
Damn I wish I had the market cornered on blood pressure medication in the South. I could be making a killing!
So to speak.
Update: Well of course Alaska can't let Texas do something crazy without jumping onto the crazy bandwagon right along with them.
Courtesy of KTUU:
A bill introduced in the Alaska House would make it a misdemeanor for a federal employee to try to enforce any new restrictions on gun ownership.
HB69, from House Speaker Mike Chenault, was introduced the same day President Barack Obama unveiled a package of executive orders and legislative proposals aimed at curbing gun violence. Obama's proposals include background checks for all gun sales and a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines.
His bill would deem unenforceable federal laws, orders, rules or regulations that seek to ban or restrict ownership of a semiautomatic firearm or magazine, or require a firearm, magazine or firearm accessory be registered.
It should come as no surprise that Chenault, pictured above, represents the Kenai/Soldotna area which is of course the SAME area where many of these militia assholes, including Norm Olsen, live.
Fucking Alaska!

The Fiscal Cliff bill, who voted how, and who comes out ahead?
Courtesy of the Washington Post:
Most House Republicans voted against the final fiscal cliff deal late Tuesday night, while just 16 Democrats joined them.
A few notes from the votes:
* The bill easily passed 257-167, with 217 votes needed for passage. Democrats voted 172-16 in favor while Republicans votes 151-85 against.
* GOP leadership was split. While House Speaker John Boehner (Ohio) and 2012 vice presidential nominee and Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (Wis.) voted yes, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (Va.) and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) voted no.
* Ryan’s vote is noteworthy because another major 2016 presidential contender, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), was one of just eight senators to vote no early Tuesday morning, as did another potential presidential candidate, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).
* Other no votes included GOP firebrands Reps. Allen West (Fla.), Michele Bachmann (Minn.) and Joe Walsh (Ill.). West and Walsh lost reelection in November, while Bachmann narrowly won.
So both West and Walsh voted against the bill huh? Well that is part of the reason why they are now EX-House members.
Now as interesting as that was I was kind of fascinated with just WHICH Democrats broke ranks and voted against the bill.
* The 16 Democrats voting no split between the liberal and the moderate. More liberal Reps. Xavier Becerra (Calif.), Earl Blumenauer (Ore.), Peter DeFazio (Ore.), Rosa DeLauro (Conn.), Jim McDermott (Wash.), Brad Miller (N.C.), Jim Moran (Va.), Bobby Scott (Va.), Pete Visclosky (Ind.) voted no. But they were joined by moderate-to-conservative Reps. John Barrow (Ga.), Jim Cooper (Tenn.), Jim Matheson (Utah), Mike McIntyre (N.C.), Collin Peterson (Minn.), Kurt Schrader (Ore.) and Adam Smith (Wash.).
These sixteen bear watching in the future, and I hope their constituents are paying close attenion to how carelessly they treat the fiscal security of this nation.
So that is how the vote played out in the House, but when the dust settles WHO got their ass handed to them the worst?
This again according to the Washington Post:
The bill was 153 pages long. It was written only the day before, by Washington insiders working in the dark of night. It was crammed with giveaways and legislative spare parts: tax breaks for wind farms and racetracks. A change to nuclear-weapons policy. Government payments for cheese.
And, most significantly, the bill will raise taxes but do relatively little to cut government spending or the massive federal deficit.
To a tea-party-influenced crop of House Republicans, the bill to resolve the “fiscal cliff” crisis was everything they had wanted to change about the way Washington worked. Too rushed. Too bloated. Too secretive. Too expensive.
“There’s lots and lots of pork in this bill,” said Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), one of its most outspoken opponents.
On Tuesday, however, it passed on their watch. After the Senate approved the compromise, it briefly appeared that the GOP-led House would rebel against the bill. But the threat faded: For many Republicans, it appeared, the risk of rejecting the bill — and courting economic calamity — outweighed their unhappiness with the bill’s contents.
Here is how jaded I have become over the political process in Washington these days. I fully expect my side to be screwed over anything that gets through both houses. I am just happier when the Right Wing gets fucked harder than we do. (Especially that prick Darrell Issa!)
You know it's the little things in life.
By the way purely to get a sense of who would or would NOT vote for this bill and why, I checked how my two Senators and lone Congressman voted. Believe it or not, they ALL THREE voted for the bill.
Oh and speaking of winners and losers, I just saw on MSNBC that President Obama boarded a plane to rejoin his family to finish out their vacation.

Over half of the American people believe that the Republican party is too extreme. Gee, ya think?
Courtesy of CNN Politics:
According to the survey, 53% say the GOP should compromise more, with 41% saying the Democratic Party should give up more of the proposals it supports to develop bipartisan solutions.
"That's due in part to the fact that the Republican brand is not doing all that well," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.
Fifty-three percent of those surveyed say they view the policies of the GOP as too extreme, up 17 points from two years ago. Only 37% say they view the polices of the Democratic Party as too extreme.
It probably doesn't help that House Speaker John Boehner, who's leading GOP fiscal cliff negotiations with the president, is held in fairly low regard, particularly in comparison to Obama. According to the poll, 34% of the public approves of how the top Republican in the House handling his job. By contrast, the president's approval rating stands at 52%.
"Small wonder that nearly half say they have more confidence in President Obama than in the congressional Republicans and that nearly half (48%) would blame the GOP if the fiscal cliff occurs," adds Holland.
Okay will SOMEBODY please show this to the President and tell him to stop trying to compromise with these people?
Nobody likes them, they no longer have credibility, and they are rapidly headed to extinction.
Essentially all Obama has to do is to step over their politically paralyzed bodies and push through the policies that the majority of the American people elected him to do on their behalf.
This is clearly no longer a "center right country" (Not that I ever thought it was) and it is time to run this nation like the progressive paradise that it so desperately wants to become.
Do you hear me Mr. President?

Hey want to see some REALLY good news about the 2012 election?
I am not by any means suggesting that Democrats should get complacent, I am just pointing out that things are really starting to look up for the President's reelection.
And apparently working in his favor is the fact that the more that people come to know the REAL Mitt Romney, the less they like him:
After his personal popularity saw a resurgence almost immediately after he wrapped up the Republican presidential nomination, Mitt Romney’s favorability rating has plateaued at a historically low level, according to a new poll released Wednesday.
According to the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, 40 percent of Americans hold a favorable view of Romney — virtually identical to the 41 percent high-water mark that his favorability rating reached in the ABC/WaPo survey from late May. Compounding matters for the presumptive Republican nominee: the percentage of the public who view him unfavorably has jumped from 45 percent to 49 percent. Romney’s standing is even lower among independents, with only 37 percent of the bellwether voting bloc viewing him favorably compared with 50 percent who view him unfavorably.
So obviously the best thing for the President is that Romney get his message out far and wide, and have a chance to meet as many Americans up close and personal as he can before November 6th. And I support him in that effort.
Psst hey Mitt, you know what might help?
Put Sarah Palin on the ticket. No really! Just think of how much it helped John McCain avoid taking responsibility for his loss in 2008?
I mean sure you will still lose, but this way you can blame it on the batshit crazy lady from Wasilla. Besides the late night comics, and political pundits will LOVE you for it.
Just a thought.

Sarah Palin speech in Michigan infiltrated by dirty liberals. Okay NOW we will finally get the truth!.
![]() |
Just one of the "freedom loving patriots" that showed up to see Palin. |
Yesterday, Americans For Prosperity held a fake grassroots rally called “Patriots in the Park” in Belleville, Michigan near the Detroit Metro Airport. Around 400-500 tea party supporters and Sarah Palin fanatics showed up to bake in the hot sun to witness an event, dubbed “Kochstock” by LOLGOP, bought and paid for by the conservative group that bills itself as a non-political 501(c)(4) nonprofit group. This nonprofit status allows them to hide their donors and to sponsor these types of events around the country as long as they don’t support a candidate.
The result was a several-hour long anti-Obama, anti-Democrat hatefest where not a single Republican candidate got mentioned.
Aha! So despite reports to the contrary by lying Palin-bots there really were ONLY 400-500 idiots there. I knew it!
Sarah Palin adorers were everywhere. In fact, if she wasn’t the headliner, they never would have had 400 people there. It was a level of adulation and reverence that I haven’t seen since the Obama rallies of 2008.
Except during the 2008 campaign the reason ONLY 400 people would have shown up to see Obama was if he were traveling incognito, and heavily in disguise. And even THEN I would expect a larger turnout.
Apparently there were even sightings of Palin mingling with the crowd looking more lifelike than usual.
But of course these sad little people did not pay money (No seriously they DIDN'T pay any money.) just to see a cardboard cutout (Despite the fact that it undoubtedly had more human qualities), and the Grizzled Mama eventually DID make her appearance.
And then it was time for the main attraction: Sarah Palin in the flesh. She was introduced by an AFP guy whose wife spoke on stage right before him. “I’m sandwiched between my wife and Sarah Palin,” he joked.
Okay that made me throw up in my mouth a little.
The undercover reporter then goes on to report about Palin's speech which of course we covered Saturday. However I thought the way he summed up his experiences at this fake rally was worht sharing.
The adulation of Sarah Palin is almost unseemly. Women in the crowd were clearly in love with her but the men … well, my wife calls it “political porn”. She’s right. Between one emcee calling her a “stone fox” and a “hot babe” and another one talking about being sandwiched between her and his wife, Sarah Palin is, for her male admirers, little more than a political porn star, a sexual fantasy figure.
What this does for women in politics is horrendous. As Republicans wage their War on Women across the country, they are promoting an unhealthy and flagrantly sexualized role for their female politicians. You would never hear about a Democratic female speaker being referred to or introduced in such a fashion. The fact that Palin allows it says pretty much everything you need to know about her and about her political party.
You know his description of her attractiveness might have been true four years ago, before plastic surgery, constant dieting, and the stress of keeping all of the Palin family secrets under wraps had taken its toll, but seriously WHO thinks of Palin in sexualised terms these days?
Oh, okay well I guess that clears THAT up.

Happy Independence Day! It's too early you say? Not for Alaskans it's not!
It was three years ago today that I received an urgent e-mail saying that something big was about to happen with Palin out in Wasilla, and that journalists had 45 minutes to get there.
Unfortunately for me I was unable to leave work (And besides in order to make the drive in 45 minutes I would have had to completely ignore the posted speed limits), so I stayed by my computer and television to wait for whatever this breaking news might be.
It soon exceeded my wildest dreams.
(Here's part two for those who want to see the entire speech.)
You could almost sense the jubilation that bubbled up among many in Alaska at the news. Finally our long terrible national disgrace was coming to an end.
Of course as we know that did NOT mean that Palin was going anywhere, and she still remains Alaska's most visible shame. But hey, at least she's not actively making policy, though as I pointed out she is STILL having an influence.
(P.S. Since I know that somebody is definitely going to send this link at some point today I thought I would beat you to it and include the "Every Breath You Take" version of the resignation speech here. That STILL cracks me up!)

Gabby Giffords seeks to achieve closure on 2011 shooting by helping to elect aide to her Congressional seat
Courtesy of CBS News:
Roughly one year earlier, Giffords was one of 19 people shot at a "Congress at your corner" event that she was hosting in a Safeway parking lot in Tucson. Six people died in the attack, in which Giffords was shot in the head; she left Congress to concentrate on her recovery, setting up today's special election to serve out the rest of her term.
Among those shot in the attack was the 66-year-old Barber, who at the time was a Giffords aide; his campaign has argued that he will continue Giffords' work in Congress, an argument amplified by Giffords appearance at a campaign event for Barber over the weekend.
Giffords said little at the get-out-the-vote rally and concert, offering only a brief thank you, but her husband, retired astronaut Mark Kelly, told supporters the election was "a little bit about closure."
"This is closure on Gabby's career in Congress," he said. "It wasn't when she resigned in January."
Giffords' decision to campaign for Barber "makes a huge difference because of her enormous popularity and her bravery in dealing with the assassination event and all she has meant to southern Arizona," said Chip Scutari, the Republican half of bipartisan Arizona public relations firm Scutari and Cieslak, who predicts it will help drive up turnout for Barber today.
In part because of Barber's close ties to Giffords, Republicans have sought to turn the race into a referendum on Mr. Obama. It's a strategy that makes sense in a district in which registered Republicans outnumber registered Democrats by more than 25,000 people, according to the Arizona Secretary of State's office. Giffords' victory over Jesse Kelly in the 2010 election was one of the narrowest in the nation, and it was a "testament to Gabby's skill and personality that she was able to win in a leaning-Republican district," said Arizona-based Democratic political consultant Barry Dill.
Turning the President into the boogeyman and then using him to smear any Democrat running for office seems to be the methodology for the GOP, though I do not think it has muhc chance of tarnishing Giffords sterling reputation, nor those whom she endorses.
And Barber is not just an associate, or aide to Gifords, he was literally somebody who spilled blood on the same sidewalk the day that she was almost assassinated by a madman.
I think Giffords looks really, really good, but it is clear that she is still struggling to regain control of her body. and her ability to speak. I swear it breaks my heart every time I hear her struggle to form the most rudimentary sentences.
I have to say that I really hope that Barber gets this seat. Not just because the Dems need a solid win, but also because I know it would really get under a certain Grizzled Mama's skin.

Ever wonder WHY Mitt Romney has long had the support of Right Wing radio? Follow the money.
Courtesy of (I can't believe I am citing these people) Infowars:
Well, it turns out that Bain Capital is one of the primary owners of Clear Channel. Yes, you read that correctly. The company that Mitt Romney ran for so long is one of the “big bosses” over virtually all conservative talk radio in America.
Of course Mitt Romney is not running Bain Capital anymore. He is a “retired partner”, but he still has a huge financial stake in Bain Capital. We’re talking about millions upon millions of dollars. If you doubt this, just check out page 34 of this public financial disclosure report. So if you have been wondering why so many conservative talk show hosts are being so incredibly kind to Mitt Romney, this just might be the answer.
Okay just so you all know, Infowars is a website run by Alex Jones who is a conspiracy focused nutjob, and a huge Ron Paul supporter. So of coure you have to take most of what he says with a huge grain of salt.
However I did some checking and this time he has his facts in order. Clear Channel was indeed taken private by Bain Capital and their partners, and that fact was even admitted to on the air by Rush Limbaugh.
Now the Right Wing talking heads that work for Clear Channel will deny that this has ANYTHING to do with their gentle coverage of Mitt Romney and their rather aggressive defense of Bain Capital. However as we all know, the first thing that good radical conservative radio talk show hosts learn is to NEVER piss off their corporate masters.
Besides, in the immortal words of Mitt Romney, "Corporations are people my friend."

Bill Maher wants to know what President Obama has done to upset the conservatives so much? Especially since HE is disappointed too!
There are some hard truths in this rant that might be hard for some of us on the liberal side to hear, but Maher is exactly right in recognizing that Obama has certainly NOT done everything that liberals elected him to do, and certainly has done NOTHING to earn so much hatred from the rabid Right Wing.

MSNBC gives Sarah Palin a little too much credit in my opinion.
Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
"So she's wielding power, but avoiding actual responsibilities. Perhaps that's what she's wanted all along." I don't agree with much of what Sharpton says in this segment, but I certainly do agree with this assessment.Palin has always wanted to be taken seriously without having to try very hard, AND without risking the chance of being revealed as a lightweight phony who is tragically unqualified for whatever she is attempting to pass herself off as these days. Be that as a good mother, a political pundit, or a serious candidate for office.
I am not at all thrilled to see ANYBODY taking Palin even remotely seriously, especially my favorite news organization, and I appreciate that Dana Milbank put things into perspective.
Look, Palin is going to make a correct choice once in awhile, it is just the law of averages, but that certainly does not mean that HER endorsement had much to do with Fischer's upset, nor does it mean ANYTHING in the upcoming election against Bob Kerrey.
As it so happens Fischer was the least known candidate, with the least amount of baggage, much like Palin herself was when SHE was elected Governor of Alaska. And we all know how that worked out.
Palin may be riding high right now, having accidentally stumbled onto a winning endorsement this time, but considering Palin's track record this high is unlikely to last very long.
That reminds me, just how is Christine O'Donnell these days?
