Mommy, why doesn’t daddy wear makeup?
This is the question my 6-year-old asked me on Friday afternoon. We were watching Countdown to Christmas on ABC, and a commercial came up in between watching Toy Story.
The first image is of a boy in a backwards hat with ink and black makeup. He narrates the commercial, but doesn’t reappear until the end. In the last few scenes, he is arching his back and holding his thighs next to six or so other girls. His appears to be the most feminine of all the poses. The tagline read, “Equal is beautiful.” The final image was branded with #LashEquality.
My son watched this commercial while I wasn’t paying any attention. Because it was just a CoverGirl commercial, I didn’t think I would need to cover the screen. I was pre-occupied, speaking with David (my husband).
Both of us were caught off guard, we didn’t know how to answer. I don’t know why, but the most logical thing we could think of at that moment was to say, “No, that’s a girl.”
The commercial comes on a second time. It is undeniable, it’s a guy.
So what is a backward thinking, over protective parent to do when the Satanic world they are attempting to protect their little snowflake from comes bursting into their lives adorned in eye makeup?
Well misrepresent that world of course.
“Daddy doesn’t wear makeup because makeup is for girls.”
This of course is a ridiculous thing to say as her son JUST saw somebody who was NOT a girl on TV wearing makeup.
The mother then compounds her ignorance by responding with this; “That is how his parents chose to raise him...”
That of course is also ridiculous as parents cannot actually "choose" who their children will be. Nor should they try.
All we can do is love and support our children, and help them to make choices which empower them and allow them to be the best they can possibly be as adults.
And we cannot choose their sexuality, which seems to be the suggestion made by this mother, and her deepest fear.
In the end this sad creature decides that she will simply change her brand of makeup, and then makes this rather pathetic observation:
"Our world is headed in a direction where my 6-year-old son is having to grow up so much faster than I want him to."
Now remember her world was undone by a GUY WEARING MAKEUP.
I mean this is not a video of somebody brutally killing another person on screen, or her son overhearing inappropriate language from an R rated movie, or the death of a beloved pet.
This is just some young guy wearing makeup.
Do you know how you handle that?
You say, "Well he must like to wear makeup, and that's his choice." and you move the hell on.
The fact that this woman sees this as some kind of existential crisis seems to indicate that perhaps SHE needs to start getting out of the house more herself.
Geez!

Just a freely available video of Sarah Palin providing an up close and personal interaction with her subscribers.
Okay so there are a lot of Sarah Palin Channel videos available on this You Tube site. And I spent a little time looking through some of them, and came away completely unimpressed.
I think perhaps the best for comedic value is the one I posted yesterday.
The rest are essentially the same old shit that we have all seen before.
However there was one from a few days ago that seemed to be an attempt by Palin to get a little more intimate with her subscribers by responding to some of their comments and providing a look behind the scenes. Among other things.
Here take a look for yourself.
Now you do not need to watch very long to notice that Palin has placed the camera off to her left side instead of focused directly in front of her as it has been in the past. This provides an almost over the shoulder view that allows the subscriber to see what Palin is looking at on her computer screen while she is talking.
But it also provides another view. And this view is directed by a microphone that Palin has attached inside her carelessly buttoned shirt, which gaps open every few minutes as she moves.
Now any of us that know Sarah Palin have to realize that this is no accident.
After all this is the woman who once wore a push up bra during a Wasilla Assembly meeting so that she could "get what I want tonight."
This coquettish flirting is all part of the Sarah Palin brand, and even at age 50 it is the only thing she knows how to do to compensate for her ignorance and lack of education.
I also noticed that Palin is quite heavily made up and looks to have made sure that there was nothing revealed from this angle that might suggest her age, or any flaws. In fact she routinely thrusts out her un-enhanced chest in order to ensure that the focus remains where she wants it.
The video also contains some silly banter about past Facebook posts, and her subscribers, all done in that sing songy baby talk voice of hers. But there is really nothing of any value said, which is understandable as the point of this video is obvious from the moment her shirt gaps open for the first time.
Oh, and by the way, there is also no wedding ring on her left hand, nor any tan line to suggest that she ever wears it anymore. Just something that caught my eye.
P.S. If you want to have a real chuckle just visit the YouTube account and scroll through the comments. Clearly somebody is falling down on the job.

The line between journalist and bimbo. One woman exposes the makeup secrets behind the Fox News gals.
Courtesy of the Daily Mail:
Though all female news anchors are required to look perfectly polished on air, it is widely acknowledged that women who appear on Fox take it to an entirely different level.
The subject of both admiration and ridicule, the network's women typically favour a heavily made-up aesthetic, that is unlike that of any of its rivals.
Now one writer has revealed exactly how the 'Fox Glam' look is realised, and what purpose it serves for the network.
She tells how the make-up artist commented that she favoured a 'natural look' before proceeding to outline the outside of her lips, coating her eyelids in so much shadow 'I felt I should be wearing a sash and tiara'.
Then, though she admitted to the hair stylist that she wore her hair curled under, it was flicked out regardless because it looked 'cuter'.
The 'Fox Glam' look, to the unfamiliar, is identified by heavily-applied make-up. Plenty of bronzer and gloss are de rigueur, as are false lashes and eyeliner.
And it does not stop at make-up. Fox women typically wear figure-hugging garments in bright colours that work well on high-definition TV screens.
Well that seems awfully sexist in this day and age. How in the hell do they justify objectifying their female co-workers?
They blame it on the viewers of course.
Fox's male viewers, in particular, tend to be older than those of other networks and so are attracted to women who are a little 'brighter', make-up artist Meli Pennington says. 'The Republican Party welcomes looks in a woman - Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Nikki Haley - and so does Fox'
She tells Ms Mundy: 'They’re definitely pandering to a male audience... You think of Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends. As he [gets] older, they all get brighter and blonder.
'Look at Anna Nicole Smith. It’s like the large-print edition of women.' (Seriously? They use Anna Nicole Smith and Hefner's "girlfriends" as their blueprint? Jesus no wonder!)
As for Fox's female viewers, sociologist Catherine Hakim argues that conservative women are more likely to embrace their 'erotic capital' - or, as Ms Mundy more bluntly puts it, 'using your looks to get ahead.'
Well if you don't have the brains, I guess you use whatever works. At least that's what they tell the girls in the Men's magazines.
So apparently the women on Fox News are caked with makeup so that their elderly viewers can see them simply as objects instead of as people. It must be such a joy to be a woman and work in that environment don'tcha think?
But here's a question. Why does Fox News trowel makeup onto MOST of their female "talent" until they look like creepy adult Kewpie dolls?
Models for toothpaste or hair coloring advertisements?
Or soft porn actresses?
Yet they still allow this sad little woman to go on camera looking like this?
I mean that just seems cruel, don't you think?
It's almost like they have no respect for her, find little value in having her appear on their program, and just wish she would crawl off and.......oh!
