You know I have always thought this was true.

Let's face it the differences between Sharia law and the fundamentalist Christian point of view are virtually non-existent.

And though the Fundies will not say this out loud the way that Islamic countries control their women and punish non-believers give them a righteous woody.

Tennessee lawmakers freak out over new building designs that include"Muslim foot baths." Or as Americans refer to them "mop sinks."

Courtesy of AmericaBlog:

It all began when the legislature decided to upgrade its 150 year old building by making improvement to the plumbing system. Among those improvements were updated bathrooms, that included installing sinks for maintenance workers to fill their buckets used for cleaning the facilities.

But where normal America sees a maintenance sink, Tennessee America sees a Muslim.

You see, a few Republican lawmakers in the state legislature were convinced that the new sinks in the bathrooms were actually secret Muslim foot baths, used by devout Muslims to clean their face, feet and hands before praying. Not surprisingly, the two lawmakers, Sen. Bill Ketron, R-Murfreesboro and Rep. Judd Matheny, proposed a law two years back to jail anyone who follows Shariah law (which, you know, is a big problem in Tennessee, being such a diverse welcoming place):

A proposed Tennessee law would make following the Islamic code known as Shariah law a felony, punishable by 15 years in jail.

State Sen. Bill Ketron, R-Murfreesboro, and state Rep. Judd Matheny, R-Tullahoma, introduced the same bill in the Senate and House last week. It calls Shariah law a danger to homeland security and gives the attorney general authority to investigate complaints and decide who’s practicing it….

Oh Republicans, where would we get our daily dose of derisive laughter if ya'll didn't exist?

Yep first they stop to wash their feet in the mop sink, and next thing you know they are strapping bombs to the janitor cart and wheeling it out into the lobby. ("Allahu Akbar! You Tennessee heathens!)

My guess is that Tennessee has been so jealous of all the attention that Florida gets for craziness that they felt they had to do SOMETHING in order to stay competitive.

This incident was so ripe for mocking that Stephen Colbert simply could not resist.

Franklin Graham arrogantly implies that Obama is not a true Christian while embarrassing himself and his faith on Morning Joe.

We live in a country that declares in its Constitution, Article VI paragraph 3, that there will be, "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States," and yet no President has ever been elected to office who did not declare that he was a Christian.

And now that there is a black man in the White House, even THAT is not good enough. Now the President has to be the "right kind" of Christian.

At least according to this monstrous douchebag Franklin Graham.

Graham also expresses displeasure with the Arab Spring sweeping across the Middle East because collaterally Christians have been killed and terrorized, despite the fact that this was the will of the people and in many cases they had suffered great hardship and even death at the hands of those they had now overthrown. But to Graham that really does not count because to him a Christian life is worth far more than the life of a Muslim.

It is beyond clear that Franklin Graham has NO interest in a Democratic America, and clearly supports a theocracy, which I also believe is the underlying desire of Rick Santorum as well.

As if these arrogant pricks have any right to tell people how to live, love, and raise their families.

Thankfully John Heilemann is on this panel to call Franklin Graham out on the double standard that he applies to certain politicians, giving Rick Santorum a pass, and doing everything but calling President Obama and Mitt Romney pagans.

This interview completely pissed me of, and I found myself yelling back at Graham, and wanting to tell this hypocritical bastard just what I think of his religious litmus test and desire to impose HIS definition of morality on the American people.

Federal Appeals Court upholds the Constitution by striking down Oklahoma ban on Sharia Law.

As some of you may have noticed there was a frantic comment left on my Mitt Romney post about a Clinton appointee knocking down a ban on Sharia Law in Oklahoma.

So I decided to look it up and see what all of the panic was about.

I found it here on the ABC News site:

A federal appeals court today blocked a measure that would’ve made Oklahoma the first state in the nation to ban the Sharia law in its court system.

The court ruled in favor of Muneer Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Oklahoma, who filed a lawsuit against the Oklahoma election board on the grounds that the voter-approved constitutional amendment violated the Establishment Clause of the Constitution forbidding the government from favoring one religion over another.

The amendment specifically stated that “it forbids courts from considering or using Sharia Law.”

Sharia law is broadly defined as a body of law based on Islam and its central religious text, the Quran.

“This is an important reminder that the Constitution is the last line of defense against a rising tide of anti-Muslim bigotry in our society, and we are pleased that the appeals court recognized that fact,” Awad said in a statement. “We are also hopeful that this decision serves as a reminder to politicians wishing to score political points through fear-mongering and bigotry.”

Today’s ruling upheld a decision by the lower court striking down the Save Our State amendment, which would have also forbidden judges from using international laws as a basis for decisions.

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals found that the federal district court did not abuse discretion by barring the amendment. “Because Mr. Awad has at least one justiciable claim and because the district court did not abuse its discretion in granting the preliminary injunction, we affirm,” today’s findings by the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals stated.

Are you shaking in your boots yet?

No? Well that is because you are not an ignoramus.

Perhaps the people who voted to specifically target Islam, have never read the First Amendment.

Here allow me:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

This part, " Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." is the portion that is relevant to this case.  And clearly it gives the courts the right, no the RESPONSIBILITY, to protect a Muslim's right to exercise their religious freedoms.  A law directly singling them out for oppression is clearly unconstitutional.

And by the way striking down this ban does NOT mean that Islamic law is now going to compete with existing law in court cases. Nor does it mean that American courts can no longer prosecute those responsible for honor killings, or that women will be forced to wear  a Hijab.

This changes nothing, our laws still stand, and it is ridiculous to assume that a country as freedom loving as America will suddenly allow oppressive laws to be placed on the books in reverence to Sharia Law.

And just to clear things up, our laws were NOT based on Biblical law.

In fact the Founding Fathers took great pains to use language that was unambiguous when it came to explaining that the government simply could NOT make laws establishing a religion that would force everybody to worship the same God, nor restricting a religion that was at odds with the lawmaker's choice of religious expression.

Even though many of today's Christians like to argue that the Founding Fathers were also Christians, it really does not make any damn difference. They specified directly that, regardless of THEIR faith, it was verboten to force it on anybody else.

And my advice to these people getting their panties in a twist over the fact that THEIR religion is not THE religion in this country is simply, "This is clearly not the country for you, so perhaps you should get the fuck out! But if you decide to stay, then please shut the fuck up!"

Was that too oppressive?

Fanning the flames of hate and religious intolerance through the ditziest mouthpiece on the planet, Victoria Jackson.

Courtesy of the Huffington Post:

Former "Saturday Night Live" actress Victoria Jackson, working on confidential information she as a web talk show host has special clearance to obtain, has claimed that the United States is being overtaken by radical Muslims bent on bringing the nation under Sharia law.

"I just went to a briefing in Washington DC, across the street from the Capitol, at the Longworth building at 8:30 am two days ago and it changed my life," Jackson said last week on her web show, "Politichicks." "For six hours, I saw pictures and names and dates and facts and Islamic law books and Korans, Surahs for six hours and they proved to me... that the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated our highest positions in government and this is serious."

Jackson also detailed the meeting in an earlier blog post this December. In that post, she details testimony given by John Guandolo, a former FBI agent who worked on the case against former Louisiana Rep. William Jefferson. Guandolo resigned from the FBI in 2008 after he was caught trying to score a $75,000 donation for an anti-terrorism group from a wealthy Jefferson case witness with whom he was having an affair. Guandolo now gives speeches on the existential threat of Islam, claiming that Muslim groups are using political correctness and political insurgency to stop FBI and police officers from stopping their spread of Sharia law.

The actress-turned-pundit also reported testimony from Maj. Stephen Coughlin, who in 2008 was effectively fired from his post at the Joint Chiefs of Staff, because, many conservatives believe, he was a staunch anti-Islamic extremist advocate. Wired reports that his contract was not renewed after a staffer for Gordon England, then the deputy secretary of defense, raised questions about his work. Last January, Coughlin gave a maligned speech during an FBI presentation on Muslim extremism.

Jesus! The stupidity is enough to make your head explode.  How in the WORLD does anybody take these idiotic women seriously?

Anybody who actually believes that Jackson was provided with "confidential information," that was NOT entirely made up or discredited, is a moron. Just imagine a reputable law enforcement representative telling Victoria Jackson ANYTHING "confidential!"

However there is a small faction of radical right wing Americans who want to believe this is true, so they buy the whole thing hook, line, and sinker.

The idea that Secretary of State Clinton is establishing Sharia law in America, or that President Obama is a "secret Muslim terrorist sympathizer, or that Timothy McVeigh had Islamic connections is simply too ignorant to contemplate. And yet these women verbalize them as facts.

As much as I would simply like to ignore these sad, sorry excuses for Americans we cannot, because they are continuing to spread lies, and misinformation, that is affecting how certain people view the world. Which allows them to be frightened into supporting unfit candidates for public office who are the ones that REALLY put our country, and the future for our children, in danger.

Who wants to bet that Palin-bots are among the most dedicated viewers of this show?

P.S. If you want to learn how these idiot got this gig, and who the hell they are, you can do so by clicking here.

Rep. Carl Gatto, a teabagger from Palmer, Alaska, wants to pass a law to stop Sharia law from overtaking the state. The tiny minority of Alaska Muslims look up to say, "Wait, what are we trying to do?"

From ADN:

Palmer Republican Rep. Carl Gatto has set off a political firestorm with a bill aimed at stopping what he deems as the potential of Islamic religious law -- Sharia -- trumping the U.S. Constitution in Alaska courts.

What in the hell is this guy talking about?  Who could possibly support wasting our Alaska Legislatior's time on this bullshit/

Gatto said he has strong support of Mat-Su area tea party groups...

Oh, now I see it is an idea hatched by the knuckle draggers and paint chip eaters in Wasilla and Palmer.  How could I have NOT seen that coming?

However to be fair to Gatto, which by the way is Italian for "asshole," he is not the only low functioning moron attempting to stop those terrible Muslims from implementing Islamic law in their states. Even though there is NO evidence that any American Muslims are actively attempting to do any such thing.

It's part of a push nationally by conservative state legislators, with similar measures introduced in more than a dozen states.

However just because there are other low functioning political types doing the same thing, it does not provide any cover for Mr. Asshole Gatto.  Somebody once told me that even if a million people do a stupid thing, it is STILL a stupid thing.

By the way exactly how many Muslims do we even HAVE in Alaska?

A member of the Islamic Community Center of Alaska sent an email addressed to Gatto saying 4,000 to 6,000 Muslims live peacefully in Alaska and asking him to "please do not ignite hate and misunderstanding." Another Muslim from Anchorage, Lamin Jobarteh, said Muslims follow U.S. law. There is no Sharia law in Alaska, he said.

"There is nothing like that. We have a harmonious relationship with everybody here," said Jobarteh, who said he's originally from Gambia and has lived in Anchorage for the past 17 years.

"4,000 to 6,000?"  How in the hell is a group that makes up less than 1% of the population in our state supposed to impose ANYTHING on the rest of us?

You know it seems pretty clear to me that Rep. Gallo is suffering from a pronounced case of xenophobia. And that he clearly fears anything that is unlike him, or that threatens his belief that Christianity is the all time bestest religion in the whole wide world.

However what he is doing could be very harmful to the peace loving Muslims who live in our state.

And what Rep. Gatto fails to understand is that making these accusations about a people who have done him no harm, and who have only professed a desire to live in harmony, can smear their good name and cause them to suffer harassment or threatening behavior by those who take Rep. Gatto at his word.

Now I don't actually know Rep. Gatto. I have only seen him the one time standing outside in his robe while I drove past.  But he seemed quite pleasant and even waved to me.

However I have to believe that deep down inside Rep. Gatto is a decent man, and I implore him to simply drop this ridiculous idea and get back to working on things of substance that really matter to the people of Alaska.  Especially since it appears that even IF, by some miracle, this law were to pass, it would not make one bit of difference to how law is practiced in this state anyhow.

Anchorage Democratic Rep. Max Gruenberg said the bill as written wouldn't apply to criminal law, and asked a lawyer for the state whether she could see a scenario where the bill would make any difference in how the laws are being applied in Alaska.

"I've had difficulty figuring out how it could ever be applied," said Assistant Attorney General Mary Ellen Beardsley.

You know if the teabaggers are all so fired up about saving the state some money, perhaps they could start by not spending valuable tax payer money on frivolous bullshit like this!

Just a thought.

Group of "Christians" surround Islamic man praying in front of the White House and do everything they can to shame Jesus.

Anti-abortion crusader Randall Terry (resplendent in a fabulous totally heterosexual fur coat) is making some kind of documentary while coming to protest a pro-Sharia law rally (That unbeknownst to him had been cancelled.) that was scheduled to take place in front of the White House.

Frustratingly for Terry no Muslim rally materializes. So instead he turns his cameras on others that came to protest with him.

At one point he interviews controversial Muslim hater Terry Jones, who has the "brilliant" idea of putting the Koran on trial in some sort of fundamentalist kangaroo court, where he is confident it will be found guilty, after which he plans to drown it or place in front of a firing squad.  (Clearly Jones has a little difficulty with the difference between an "inanimate" vs an "animate" object.)

However just when it looks like Terry and his merry band of Muslim haters will have to pack up and go home without the chance to spew their hatred, an Islamic gentleman shows up to pray in front of the White House.

Now it is important to note that this gentleman is NOT associated with the pro-Sharia Law rally, and does this every day in front of the White House without incident. That is until this day.

I will warn you that this is very hard to watch, and that if you consider yourself a Christian you may become extremely angry at the people purporting to represent your faith in this video.

Okay well you will all have to excuse me because after watching that I need to take a shower and rinse off my disgust.

I just hate it when people make me ashamed of my country.  You would think after eight years of George Bush I would be used to it, but I'm not.

(Hat tip to the Raw Story.)
