Donald Trump has invited Vladimir Putin to the White House. Again.

Let's be best friends. You can even come for a sleep over.
Courtesy of Reuters:

U.S. President Donald Trump invited his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to the United States during a phone call, and said he would be glad to see Putin in the White House, RIA Novosti reported on Friday, citing the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The news agency quoted Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as saying Trump returned to the subject of an invitation a couple of times during a call last month and that Russia was now expecting Trump to formalize the invitation.

“We proceed from the fact that the U.S. president in a telephone conversation...made such an invitation, said he would be glad to see (Putin) in the White House, would then be glad to meet on a reciprocal visit,” said Lavrov, according to a transcript of an interview with RIA on the foreign ministry website.

“He returned to this topic a couple of times, so we let our American colleagues know that we do not want to impose, but we also do not want to be impolite, and that considering that President Trump made this proposal, we proceed from the position that he will make it concrete.”

Well so much for Trump suddenly getting tough on Putin.

You may remember that trump made this same offer almost exactly a month ago, and for all we know he has made it several times in between.

Of course since then there have been more cyber attacks from Russia, and of course this whole Syria airstrike Kabuki performance.

Let's simply point out once again that Trump is Putin's bitch, and he proves it almost every single day.

Donald Trump vomits forth another early morning Twitter tantrum. Target: James Comey.

Yes, the best way to secure a job with a new President is to announce there is an open investigation against them a week before the election.

If Comey were trying to curry favor with Hillary he would have announced that the FBI had been investigating the Trump campaign almost since its inception.
That is a LOT of misinformation in just one tweet.
Loretta Lynch? Are we seriously dredging that up again?
They are also CONFIRMED by other members of the FBI and Justice Department that Comey talked to directly after his meetings with Trump.
Just in case you are thinking "WTF?" keep in mind that Comey's big interview with ABC is being broadcast tonight.

Apparently somebody is a little agitated.

But it was not all Comey all the time this morning, Trump had a few other things to bitch about as well.
I did not even realize that lawyers came with an air release valve.

However of course not ALL lawyers are worried about being raided by the FBI.

Only the ones who lied, and paid off porn stars, for Donald Trump.

Then there was this tweet.
I have only one response to this:
All Trump did with that statement was to remind us that our last completely incompetent president was so much MORE competent than this one.

And he never tweeted like a middle school girl who just found out her best friend was making out with the boy she likes behind the gym either.

Just saying.

Just in case you were wondering who was responsible for the attack on Syria yesterday, well the answer of course is Fox News.

Courtesy of Think Progress:

On Friday morning, Fox & Friends host Ainsley Earhardt suggested that military strikes in Syria could be useful to divert attention from the unflattering portrayal of President Trump contained in former FBI Director James Comey’s book.

“If the president, and France, and the U.K decide to strike Syria, don’t you think that story would be a bigger story than Comey’s book that’s released on Tuesday?” she said.

Earhardt’s suggestion came while Trump is reportedly still considering a potential military strike against Syria — and amid an edition of Fox & Friends that was largely devoted to sullying Comey’s reputation.

That's right folks, we now live in a country where the foreign policy is determined by an airhead sitting on a couch spouting nonsense to a cable news audience.

A cable news audience which includes the president of the United States.

By the way if you are looking for a little bright spot of joy to be taken from this attack on Syria, you can find it by watching Alex Jones lose his mind over his hero's decision to launch this military strike.
And it gets even better.
I think perhaps this is the base that Trump was trying to hold onto.

There are actually a LOT of these videos of Jones frothing at the mouth and screaming expletives at his cameraman, but they are too over the top to show even here on IM.

By the way, I for one am not distracted from the Mueller investigation, or the FBI investigation of Michael Cohen. Just in case anybody was wondering.

Donald Trump goes on Twitter rampage against Russia, fails to mention Putin by name.

This last tweet of Trump's is dead right, but it is also too little too late.

We have been under attack from  Russia for several years now, and Trump is ONLY NOW acknowledging that fact.

And before you give Trump any credit for his change of heart you need to see the tweet that followed these first two.
Sooo, it isn't Russia's support for Assad or the cyber attacks against America?

Once again let me point out that Trump did not mention Putin by name. but has no problem naming and blaming Justice Department and FBI officials who are just doing (Or just did) their jobs.

Donald Trump finally attacks Vladimir Putin by name over Syria gas attack.

I have been wondering if there was anything that could happen that would cause Trump to pull his lips off Putin's ass and use them to criticize him.

As it turns out dozens of dead and dying Syrian children was simply too much.

Courtesy of the New York Times:

Dozens of Syrians choked to death after a suspected chemical attack struck the rebel-held suburb of Douma, east of Damascus, and aid groups on Sunday blamed President Bashar al-Assad’s government for the assault.

The attack after dusk on Saturday sent a stream of patients with burning eyes and breathing problems to clinics, medical and rescue groups said. Western governments expressed alarm at the attack, with the British Foreign Office calling for an urgent investigation and saying that if the use of chemical weapons proved to be true, “it is further proof of Assad’s brutality.”

I guess this is to be expected once Trump announced that he was removing American troops.

Assad now has carte blanche to punish his people any way that he sees fit, and Putin will not do a thing to stop him.

Of course Trump could not be counted on to stay on the high road.
Yeah, you have to get those digs in on your political enemies.

It should be pointed out that President Obama TRIED to end Assad's attacks on his people, but he made the unfortunate choice of trusting Vlad:

The so-called “red line” episode in September 2013, when, in a last-minute decision, President Barack Obama called off U.S. air strikes in Syria,1 has continued to shape his legacy. Instead of striking the Syrian government in retaliation for a nerve gas attack near Damascus, Obama took Russian President Vladimir Putin up on an offer to peacefully dismantle the Syrian chemical weapons program and craft a United Nations resolution2 to make sure no gas attacks ever occurred in Syria again.

Alternately described as one of the former president’s greatest successes or as one of his worst failures, what remains of Obama’s red line deal is now under attack. After a UN-appointed panel determined that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces are still using poison gas, albeit at a much more limited scale than before, Putin refused to abide by the September 2013 deal, which promised joint U.S.-Russian efforts in the United Nations to punish all violators.

So if Trump wants to blame somebody for this most recent humanitarian crisis he need look no further than his speed dial.

The question is can he bring himself to do anything more than simply tweet his displeasure?

Donald Trump instructs military leaders to prepare to bring troops home from Syria.

Courtesy of WaPo:

President Trump has instructed military leaders to prepare to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria, but has not set a date for them to do so, according to a senior administration official.

In a meeting with top national security officials Tuesday, Trump stressed that U.S. troops can be involved in current training tasks for local forces to ensure security in areas liberated from the Islamic State, the official said.

But the president said that the U.S. mission would not extend beyond the destruction of the Islamic State, and that he expects other countries, particularly wealthy Arab states in the region, to pick up the task of paying for reconstruction of stabilized areas, including sending their own troops, if necessary.

Don't get me wrong, I want American troops to be brought home as soon as possible.

However we sent troops there to fight ISIS and to keep Assad from murdering his own people with poison gas.

When Russia entered the fray they started bombing opponents of Assad, as well as civilian targets such as hospitals. (Source.)

The Russians are not there to help the Syrian people, they are there to protect Putin's buddy Assad and help him to oppress the Syrian people.

Once American troops are out of the way, that will be significantly easier.

As I said before, this is Donald Trump openly doing Vladimir Putin's bidding right out in the open, for all the world to see.

Donald Trump wants to pull troops out of Syria, put them on the Mexican border instead.

Courtesy of The Hill:

President Trump on Tuesday signaled that he wants to pull U.S. troops out of Syria, but said no final decision has been made.

“I want to get out. I want to bring those troops home," Trump said at a news conference with leaders from Baltic states.

"Seven trillion dollars in the Middle East over the last 17 years, we get nothing out of it … except death and destruction. It’s a horrible thing.”

The president pointed to America's success in combating the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terror group in the region, adding that he will consult with his advisers and foreign leaders about the American military presence in the war-torn nation.

Now I think that a lot of us would like to see the troops brought home from overseas, including from Syria.

However keep in mind that Putin has made it known that HE wants the American troops out of the way, so if Trump brings them home rest assured that he is not doing it for the troops or for the American people.

So where DOES Trump want to send the troops?

Funny you should ask.

Courtesy of Politico:

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he intended to deploy troops along the U.S.-Mexico border until a wall was built there, proposing an escalation of efforts to prevent people from entering the country illegally via the southern border.

The move would ramp up Trump’s battle over immigration, after he has run into hurdles carrying out his campaign-trail promise to build a wall at Mexico’s expense. Most recently, he has been preoccupied by a group of migrants, mostly from Honduras, making their way north through Mexico toward the U.S.

“We are going to be guarding our border with our military. That’s a big step,” Trump said on Tuesday during a session at the White House with the leaders of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. “We cannot have people flowing into our country illegally, disappearing and, by the way, never showing up for court.”

I'm sorry did I miss the memo?

When did we declare war on Mexico?

Keep in mind that pulling the troops out of Syria would please Trump's puppet master Vladimir Putin to no end, while placing the military on the border to defend America against people wanting to work here will please his xenophobic deplorable base.

In other words Trump is clearly trying to please to different constituencies.

Trump also seems to be getting very sensitive about allegations that he is Putin's bitch.
"Probably nobody's been tougher to Russia than Donald Trump."

Please, the only person who has been a bigger sycophant to Vladimir Putin is probably the guy who oils him up before he poses for those bare chested magazine covers and calendar pages.

Trump is not even trying to give the appearance that he isn't Putin's butt boy anymore.

So why the fuck is he still in the White House?

Trump's "fake news" meme is also popular with another group of folks, authoritarian despots.

Courtesy of Politico:

Authoritarian rulers across the globe are adopting President Donald Trump’s favorite phrase to limit free speech, with prominent leaders or state media in at least 15 countries using his “fake news” line to denounce their critics, according to a POLITICO review.

By aligning themselves with Trump’s words, despots have been able to use the U.S. president as a shield for their attacks on press freedom and human rights, said Joel Simon, executive director of the Committee to Protect Journalists.

“I’m seeing it more and more,” he said. Trump, he added, “is providing a context and framework for all sorts of authoritarian leaders—or democratic leaders and others who are dissatisfied or upset by critical media coverage—to undermine and discredit reporting.”

In February, for example, Syrian President Bashar Assad brushed off an Amnesty International report that some 13,000 people had been killed at one of his military prisons by saying, “You can forge anything these days, we are living in a fake news era.”

In the Philippines, President Rodrigo Duterte has complained of being “demonized” by “fake news.” Last month, with Trump laughing by his side, he called reporters “spies.”

Over the weekend, a state official in Myanmar attracted notice when he said, “There is no such thing as Rohingya. It is fake news,” referring to the persecuted ethnic group.

Those are hardly the only examples of Trump’s phrase being deployed internationally: In March, Chinese state media dismissed a prominent rights activist’s account of torture as “fake news.” And in May, the People’s Daily ran an op-ed with the headline, “Trump is right, fake news is the enemy, something China has known for years.”

Possibly the worst American export ever!

America, making the world a more shitty place since 2017.

Donald Trump talked to his boss yesterday and received orders to step off and let Russia handle Syria.

Courtesy of ABC News:

President Donald Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin discussed efforts to bring peace to war-torn Syria during an hour-plus phone call on Tuesday. Iran, North Korea and Ukraine also were on the agenda, the White House said.

Trump called it a "great call" Tuesday afternoon as he left the White House to spend Thanksgiving in Florida. Noting the length, he said he and Putin spoke "very strongly about bringing peace to Syria" and "very strongly about North Korea."

Trump's phone call with the Russian president came a day after Putin met with Syrian President Bashar Assad. Putin hosted Assad at a Black Sea resort ahead of a summit later this week with Russia, Turkey and Iran. Assad was called to Russia to get him to agree to potential peace initiatives drafted by the other three countries, the Kremlin said.

The Kremlin said Putin briefed Trump in the phone call about his talks with Assad and plans for a political settlement in Syria. Putin also called for coordination of anti-terror efforts with the U.S., the Kremlin said, adding that Afghanistan was also discussed.

"Putin briefed Trump in the phone call about his talks with Assad and plans for a political settlement in Syria."

Did you catch that?

That does not say that Trump and Putin brainstormed the best response to the situation in Syria. That literally says that Putin told Trump what he was fucking doing, and expected Trump to fucking keep his mouth shut about it.

Keep in mind that America and Russia went into Syria originally for different reasons.

President Obama sent the military in to support the rebels who had been gassed by Assad, and Putin sent his military in to support Assad against the "terrorists."

Essentially Putin just bent Trump over and had him grab his ankles on this one.

Courtesy of Politico:

Trump may not care: He has said privately that he considers Syria to be Obama’s failure and that he sees little the U.S. can do about it now, according to a person briefed on one of his conversations. That view was reflected in Trump’s decision earlier this year to cancel a covert CIA program that armed moderate Syrian rebels fighting Assad’s regime.

So now the people of Syria, who America promised to support, have been left to the mercy of two iron fisted dictators who do not give a shit about them.

Syria to sign Paris Climate agreement leaving only the United States out in the cold.

Courtesy of the New York Times:

Syria announced during United Nations climate talks on Tuesday that it would sign the Paris agreement on climate change. The move, which comes on the heels of Nicaragua signing the accord last month, will leave the United States as the only country that has rejected the global pact.

According to several people who were in a plenary session at the climate talks in Bonn, Germany, a Syrian delegate announced that the country was poised to send its ratification of the Paris agreement to the United Nations.

“This is the very last country that actually announced, so everyone has joined and the U.S. is now so isolated,” said Safa Al Jayoussi, executive director of IndyAct, an environmental organization based in Lebanon that works with Arab countries on climate change.

A White House spokeswoman, Kelly Love, pointed reporters to a statement the administration made when Nicaragua joined the pact, noting there had been no change in the United States’ position.

“As the president previously stated, the United States is withdrawing unless we can re-enter on terms the are more favorable for our country,” the statement said.

And then there was one.

One arrogant despot, too ignorant and self absorbed to make an obvious choice that is good for his country as well as his planet.

I am almost too ashamed for words.

Now that Putin's puppet is in place America is busy jumping through Russia's hoops.

Courtesy of WaPo:

President Trump has decided to end the CIA’s covert program to arm and train moderate Syrian rebels battling the government of Bashar al-Assad, a move long sought by Russia, according to U.S. officials.

The program was a central plank of a policy begun by the Obama administration in 2013 to put pressure on Assad to step aside, but even its backers have questioned its efficacy since Russia deployed forces in Syria two years later. Officials said the phasing out of the secret program reflects Trump’s interest in finding ways to work with Russia, which saw the anti-Assad program as an assault on its interests.

The shuttering of the program is also an acknowledgment of Washington’s limited leverage and desire to remove Assad from power.

Officials said Trump made the decision to scrap the CIA program nearly a month ago, after an Oval Office meeting with CIA Director Mike Pompeo and national security adviser H.R. McMaster ahead of a July 7 meeting in Germany with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

If that were not troubling enough, we also have this bit of troubling news, courtesy of Bloomberg:

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is shutting down an office that coordinates cyber issues with other countries, according to two people familiar with the plan, in a move that critics said will diminish the U.S. voice in confronting hackers.

The Office of the Coordinator for Cyber Issues, established under President Barack Obama in 2011, will be folded into the State Department’s Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs, according to the people, who asked not to be identified in advance of an announcement. The coordinator will no longer report directly to the secretary of state, going instead through the bureau’s chain of command as Tillerson pushes ahead with a department-wide reorganization, they said.

“It’s taking an issue that’s preeminent and putting it inside a backwater within the State Department,” said Robert Knake, a senior fellow for cybersecurity at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington who was director of cybersecurity policy at the National Security Council under Obama. “Position to power matters both within the U.S. government and within the international community.”

If somebody actually believe this move will help protect us from the next cyber attack, or that it is NOT playing right into the hands of the Kremlin, then they have not been paying attention at all.

As far as I am concerned Tillerson is likely just as compromised as Donald Trump and allowing him oversight of this crucial government department is like putting the fox in charge of guarding the door to the hen house.

These are of course only a few of the things that Putin clearly demanded of Trump, and the Russian government has now become so used to getting their way in Washington that when there is a hiccup they get pissed off.

Courtesy of the LA Times:

Russia said Tuesday that it is losing patience over the return of properties that the United States seized as penalty for Moscow's election interference, as tense talks between the two countries have yielded no resolution.

In Moscow, officials threatened to take "retaliatory measures" if the United States continued to "hinder" their government's diplomatic mission, and the spokesman for President Vladimir Putin said the Kremlin's patience "is expiring."

"We are still counting on the reasonableness of our American counterparts to at least bring the situation into the legal framework in accordance with the international law," said the spokesman, Dmitry Peskov.

To be clear the Russian government has done NOTHING to deserve the return of these compounds, which were taken from them in response to their very aggressive interference in our last presidential election, for which they have not yet even admitted responsibility, and yet they feel empowered to make threats?

Let's face it if America were one of Trump's casinos the roulette wheel would be rigged to land on whatever number Putin picked and the slot machine would pay off for every Russian's pull of handle.

Late last night the White House issued a warning accusing Syria of preparing to gas its people. US defense officials have no idea why.

Okay so this was broadcast on cable news last night. (I personally saw it toward the end of the Rachel Maddow Show.)

And on the face of it this seems like kind of a crazy way to announce that the president of Syria is about to murder his own people again. Typically this would be addressed through diplomatic channels and the public would only become aware if there were an imminent military response planned by the United States. (And seriously what does "pay a heavy price" even mean?)

But then it gets even weirder.

Courtesy of The Independent

The White House has said it believes the Syrian government is planning a chemical weapons attack and warned Bashar al-Assad that his regime will “pay a heavy price” it it does so. However, several US defence officials have said they are not familiar with the intelligence that informed the statement.

White House officials did not respond to requests for comment on Monday night on the allegations or what form US retaliation would take.

Several sources across the US State Department, Pentagon and Central Command, which oversees the country’s military operations in Syria and Iraq – said that they did not know what had prompted the unprecedented threat to the Assad regime.

Okay, okay, let's back the fuck up here.

Are we to believe that the White House received intelligence that the Pentagon did not receive which justified a threat like this?

I call bullshit.

I am beginning to think that Donald Trump is becoming so desperate over those Russia investigations that he is literally considering plunging this country into a war simply to distract the public.

Donald Trump called his puppet master yesterday.

Courtesy of AP:

President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin signaled improving prospects for cooperation in Syria Tuesday in what the White House called a "very good" phone discussion that included a focus on setting up safe zones in the war-torn nation.

The Kremlin said the leaders also agreed to try to set up their first in-person meeting in July, on the sidelines of an international summit in Germany. The White House later confirmed that information.

Tuesday's call marked the first time Trump and Putin have spoken since the U.S. launched missiles against an air base in Syria, an attack that outraged Russia, one of the Syrian government's strongest backers. The U.S. military action sparked new tensions between Washington and Moscow, with top U.S. officials sharply condemning Putin's continued support for embattled Syrian leader Bashar Assad.

But the leaders appeared to again be edging toward closer cooperation following Tuesday's call. The Kremlin said Trump and Putin agreed to bolster diplomatic efforts to resolve the Syrian civil war, which has left hundreds of thousands dead and millions more displaced. The White House announced it would send a top State Department official to Russian-led talks on Syria that begin Wednesday in Kazakhstan.

Call me a cynic but I have no confidence that Trump and Putin have not had communications before this phone call of which the American people are simply not aware.

I personally think that Trump and Putin are desperately looking for some reason, such as Syria, to take their relationship public and openly communicate without the press scrutinizing it and suggesting that it is related to the hacking of the election.

That also makes me highly skeptical of the events in Syria, and exactly how much the Russians knew about what Assad was up to before the attack.

In my opinion we need to carefully monitor EVERY public and private interaction between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin and I certainly expect the press to be our eyes and ears in that regard.

It turns out the Syrian hoax meme was the result of Russian propaganda.

Ah you Americans are ever so easy to manipulate. You are like children.
Courtesy of ABC News:

As Syrian president Bashar al-Assad called videos of last week’s chemical attack a “fabrication,” a piece of propaganda promoted by a Russian cyber operation and bearing the hashtag #SyriaHoax has gained traction in the United States, analysts tell ABC News.

Following the chemical weapons attack that killed dozens of civilians on Tuesday, Al-Masdar News, a pro-Assad website based in Beirut, published claims that "something is not adding up in [the] Idlib chemical weapons attack." Its author cited "holes" in the accounts provided by the "Al-Qaeda affiliated" White Helmets leading to the conclusion that "this is another false chemical attack allegation made against the government."

That hoax story was promoted by a network of Russian social media accounts and ultimately picked up by popular alt-right personalities in the United States, including Mike Cernovich, one of the leading voices in the debunked 'Pizzagate' conspiracy theory. Cernovich popularized its new hashtag -- #SyriaHoax -- and sent it soaring through cyberspace. According to Trends24, within hours of the retaliatory missile strike President Donald Trump launched on Thursday night, #SyriaHoax was the No. 1 trending Twitter topic in the United States.

J.M. Berger of The International Centre for Counter-Terrorism at The Hague, who studies propaganda and social media analytical techniques, said #SyriaHoax is "a clear example of a Russian influence campaign" designed to undermine the credibility of the U.S. government.

"The point of an influence campaign is to get people involved who wouldn't otherwise be involved," Berger said. "A lot of people in the alt-right would not necessarily characterize themselves as being pro-Russian, but they're receiving influence from this campaign."

It should be noted that some of the people clearly influenced by this propaganda include Alex Jones, Tulsi Gabbard, and of course Sarah Palin.

We all need to keep in mind that the Russian attempt to spread disinformation and shape our opinions did NOT end with the election. They are still doing it, and it does not seem that it will stop anytime soon.

We just have to be vigilant and make sure that our sources are from reputable news outlets, and not some faux Russian backed news website whose sole purpose is to keep us off balance and make us question reality itself.

Bashir al-Assad claims that gas attack was "100 percent fabrication."

I'm sorry, what gas attack?
Courtesy of The Independent:

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has reiterated that his government had nothing to do with the chemical gas incident in a rebel-held village last week that killed more than 80 people.

Allegations that his forces had deliberately poisoned civilians were ''100 per cent fabrication'', the president said on Thursday, adding that the Syrian government gave up its chemical weapons stocks as part of a 2013 agreement.

"Our impression is that the West, mainly the United States, is hand-in-glove with the terrorists. They fabricated the whole story in order to have a pretext for the attack," he said.

So essentially Assad is taking a page out of the Donald Trump playbook and calling news that he does not like "fake news."

The problem for his of course is that this man's babies were clearly dead, and there is video showing him placing their bodies into a mass grave.

That is not something a father would do simply to frame the Syrian President.

There were of course many other pictures and video, not to mention first hand accounts by doctors, soldiers, and officials.

And now we are learning that the US intercepted communications from the Syrian government planning the actual attack on that rebel held village.

Assad is a liar who murders his own people. And yet he still has the support of the man who helped to put Donald Trump into the White House.

Go figure.

Putin feigns anger with US during meeting with Secretary or State Rex Tillerson.

Oh shucks. I could never quit you.
Okay so after at first putting out the message that Putin would not meet with Tillerson, thereby getting the press all atwitter about a rift concerning Syria, that meeting finally took place.

Courtesy of the New York Times:

After Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson waited for much of the day, wondering whether he would get to meet with President Vladimir V. Putin, the two men sat down at the Kremlin late Wednesday afternoon in the first face-to-face meeting between the Russian leader and a top official in the Trump administration.

Relations between the United States and Russia have grown so tense that it was unclear whether Mr. Putin would agree to see Mr. Tillerson, a man he once gave a medal of friendship.

Their meeting lasted almost two hours and ended just before 8 p.m. local time.

So what we are supposed to take from this is that Putin is really, really pissy with the United States right now so he threw shade at them by making the Secretary of State cool his heels like some peasant, before finally giving in and taking the meeting.

(A meeting by the way that Putin showed up on time for, even though he is famous for showing up late to meetings, including one with former Secretary of State John Kerry and even the Pope. )

Keep in mind that Tillerson is a such a good friend of Putin's, that he once gave him the Russian Medal of Friendship.

But now we are to believe that he would suddenly dis his old friend over something as silly as politics?

According to statements by Tillerson after the meeting things were supposedly chilly between the two old friends.

Courtesy of CNN:

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Wednesday that relations with Moscow are at a low point after meetings in Russia that seemed to do little to bridge a deepening diplomatic divide over a chemical attack in Syria.

Relations are "at a low point, there is a low level of trust between our two countries," Tillerson said at a news conference with his Russian counterpart, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Of course we have to simply take Tillerson's word on this because....
That's right, no press allowed.

For all we know Tillerson and Putin greeted each other with high fives and air kisses, because let's face it the only group of people who lies more to the press than the Russians, are the folks associated with Donald Trump.

But it sounds good right?

Good enough to fool even the folks over at Vox, who actually wrote this headline:

Rex Tillerson’s first visit to Moscow showed that the Trump-Russia lovefest is dead

WTF? So we are to believe that in just five days since the missile attack in Syria that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin went from braiding each other's hair to writing nasty messages in each other's school lockers?

Bullshit!

I like the folks over at Vox, I really do. But they are acting like it is their first day on the job of covering Donald Trump and his use of Tourette Syndrome like distractions.

Here is an observation from former presidential candidate Evan McMullin:
Yeah, if the Trump Administration has really had enough of Putin's shit why not hold his feet to the fire over this?

No, take my word for it this "lovefest" is far from dead.

They are just waiting for the media to get distracted before they start tongue kissing again.

Just keep your eye on those Russian sanctions.

So it appears that Ivanka Trump was actually the one who decided to launch a missile attack against Syria. I'm sorry, when was she elected president again?

Syria made me very upset Daddy. Bomb them...bomb them all.
Courtesy of The Telegraph:

(Eric Trump) also confirmed that President Trump’s decision to bomb a Syrian airbase to punish President Bashar al-Assad for a nerve gas attack last week was influenced by the reaction of his sister Ivanka, who said she was “heartbroken and outraged” by the atrocity.

So let me get this straight.

We just launched an illegal attack against a sovereign country, without first seeking the approval of Congress, because Ivanka Trump was traumatized by some photographs?

Don't get me wrong I was upset by those photographs as well, as I am sure many of us were.

However having an emotional response to a picture is not what should determine a military response.

Especially if that emotional response was from your grown ass daughter who is not currently holding an elected position or seat on your cabinet.

I have to imagine that if we were living in an alternative universe where Hillary Clinton won the election, that if Chelsea approached her sobbing over a photograph and saying that we need do something, her mother would have informed her that they already had a plan in place, and to suck it up because there is no crying in the Oval Office.

By the way in this same article Uday...I'm sorry...Eric also said this:

Donald Trump’s decision to launch a cruise missile attack on Syria proved he is not in league with Russia and will not be “pushed around” by Vladimir Putin

Uh no.....no it doesn't.

But nice try.

It is WAY too early in the morning to be face palming.

So did Russia know about the chemical attack in Syria ahead of time? Yeah, maybe.

Courtesy of the AP:

The United States has made a preliminary conclusion that Russia knew in advance of Syria's chemical weapons attack last week, but has no proof of Moscow's involvement, a senior U.S. official said Monday.

The official said that a drone operated by Russians was flying over a hospital as victims of the attack were rushing to get treatment. Hours after the drone left, a Russian-made fighter jet bombed the hospital in what American officials believe was an attempt to cover up the usage of chemical weapons.

The U.S. official said the presence of the surveillance drone over the hospital couldn't have been a coincidence, and that Russia must have known the chemical weapons attack was coming and that victims were seeking treatment.

The official, who wasn't authorized to speak publicly on intelligence matters and demanded anonymity, didn't give precise timing for when the drone was in the area, where more than 80 people were killed. The official also didn't provide details for the military and intelligence information that form the basis of what the Pentagon now believes.

As you have probably already predicted the Pentagon refutes this accusation:

A Department of Defense spokesman discounted an Associated Press report that claimed Russia knew in advance about the chemical weapons attack in Syria last week that left more than 80 people dead.

“I’ve seen nothing that corroborates this definitive statement,” Major Jamie Davis told the Daily Caller in a statement Monday. “We continue to review the available intelligence surrounding this incident.”

Boy who to believe on this one.

A report from the highly respected Associate Press news agency, or a statement from Donald Trump's Pentagon reported on the Daily Caller and Info Wars?

Boy that is a conundrum alright.

North Korea is now using Trump's missile attack on Syria as justification for their nuclear weapons program.

Good job in Syria, we are so grateful for the excuse.

North Korea says the U.S. airstrikes in Syria prove that its nuclear weapons program is justified, calling the strikes “absolutely unpardonable.” The remarks were made by an unnamed official from the country’s foreign ministry, according to state-run Korean Central News Agency. “We will bolster up in every way our capability for self-defense to cope with the U.S. evermore reckless moves for a war and defend ourselves with our own force,” the North Korean official said.

The North Koreans have long used "US aggression" as the justification for their nuclear weapons program, and this Syria attack just provided more credibility in that arena.

As it turns out North Korea's benevolent overlords, China, were ultimately unimpressed with Trump's first outing as commander-in-chief as well.

With President Xi Jinping safely out of the United States and no longer President Trump’s guest, China’s state-run media on Saturday was free to denounce the missile strike on Syria, which the American president told Mr. Xi about while they were finishing dinner.

Xinhua, the state news agency, on Saturday called the strike the act of a weakened politician who needed to flex his muscles. In an analysis, Xinhua also said Mr. Trump had ordered the strike to distance himself from Syria’s backers in Moscow, to overcome accusations that he was “pro-Russia.”

That unflattering assessment reflected China’s official opposition to military interventions in the affairs of other countries. But it was also a criticism of Mr. Trump himself, who Mr. Xi had hoped was a man China could deal with.

So much for the tyrannical toddler approach to diplomacy.

I think that Trump was hoping that by doing something militarily, anything militarily, that he would suddenly be viewed as an actual leader worthy of holding the most powerful position in the world.

Instead he appears pathetic, impulsive, and essentially impotent.

And unfortunately so does America.
