Courtesy of GQ:
The Holy Bible is rated very highly by all the people who supposedly live by it but who in actuality have not read it. Those who have read it know there are some good parts, but overall it is certainly not the finest thing that man has ever produced. It is repetitive, self-contradictory, sententious, foolish, and even at times ill-intentioned.
Indeed. I agree wholeheartedly.
As you can imagine that has some Christian leaders all worked up.
Including, of course, Franklin Graham.
Okay somebody needs to tell these idiots that just because somebody BUYS the Bible that does not mean they have READ the Bible.
It is actually rare for anybody to sit down and read the entire book from cover to cover.
I actually HAVE read the Bible, which separates me from the vast majority of people who self identify as Christians.
I was in my teens when I read it the first time, and found it laborious and poorly written.
I quite literally could not imagine how such a piss poor book could have inspired an entire religion.
I attempted to read it again in my twenties, but then one day suddenly stopped with the realization that doing so was a complete waste of my time.
And I stand by that assessment.
Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey

Trump brand Christianity.
I swear if these guidelines get any looser I might have to consider going back to church wearing my Black Sabbath t-shit and my Satanic Birkenstocks.
Just kidding, I'm never going back and they can't make me.

The boy "who came back from Heaven" files lawsuit, because he never got paid for that lie.
Courtesy of The Christian Post:
A young man who as a boy became the subject of a bestselling book claiming he had went to Heaven and met Jesus following a car accident while comatose is now suing book publisher Tyndale House for damages.
Alex Malarkey, now 20, was left as a quadriplegic following the 2004 accident, which was made famous in the 2010 bestseller The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven.
A lawsuit filed on Monday at DuPage County Circuit Court in Wheaton, Illinois, claims that Tyndale made millions from his account, which in 2015 Malarkey admitted was a total fabrication made up by his father, Kevin Malarkey, who has since passed away.
The suit explains that the father made up the story that Malarkey "had gone to Heaven, communicated with God the Father, Jesus, angels and the devil, and then returned," and that he had taken all the profits from the book.
Whenever I think about the innate gullibility of religious people this is one of the examples that springs to mind.
Once people convince themselves that the impossible is possible they are susceptible to any "evidence," no matter how flimsy, which seems to confirm their belief.
This is why televangelists have private planes, live in huge mansions, and wear Italian suits.
It is a cottage industry built around people's ignorance and need to embrace superstitious nonsense.
And in this day and age there is really no excuse for it.

Happy Easter heathens!
Y'all know the story.
Jesus died.
They buried him.
He rose from the dead.
And then he started biting people and that's how Christianity spread throughout the world.
I may be a little hazy on the specifics, and I HAVE been watching a lot of zombie movies, but I think that's the gist.
Personally I do not think it is all that weird that Easter fell on April Fool's Day this year.
After all I have been calling it a fool's holiday for decades.
But still, in the interest of human fellowship, I hope you have a great holiday.
And stay away from those Peeps, I have it on good authority that they are Satanic.
I'm pretty sure these kids think the Easter Bunny is as well.

Study finds that belief in religious fundamentalism partly due to a brain impairment. Tell me something I didn't know.
A study published in the journal Neuropsychologia has shown that religious fundamentalism is, in part, the result of a functional impairment in a brain region known as the prefrontal cortex. The findings suggest that damage to particular areas of the prefrontal cortex indirectly promotes religious fundamentalism by diminishing cognitive flexibility and openness—a psychology term that describes a personality trait which involves dimensions like curiosity, creativity, and open-mindedness.
Religious beliefs can be thought of as socially transmitted mental representations that consist of supernatural events and entities assumed to be real. Religious beliefs differ from empirical beliefs, which are based on how the world appears to be and are updated as new evidence accumulates or when new theories with better predictive power emerge. On the other hand, religious beliefs are not usually updated in response to new evidence or scientific explanations, and are therefore strongly associated with conservatism. They are fixed and rigid, which helps promote predictability and coherence to the rules of society among individuals within the group.
Religious fundamentalism refers to an ideology that emphasizes traditional religious texts and rituals and discourages progressive thinking about religion and social issues. Fundamentalist groups generally oppose anything that questions or challenges their beliefs or way of life. For this reason, they are often aggressive towards anyone who does not share their specific set of supernatural beliefs, and towards science, as these things are seen as existential threats to their entire worldview.
Once again this is one of the those things which seems so blatantly obvious, and which we are supposed to be too polite to say out loud.
If you literally believed in leprechauns, unicorns, or zombies people would legitimately be concerned about your mental health, but if you wrap it in a religious shroud then suddenly your insistence that magical beings are all around us looking out for our well being is taken as a testament to your deep faith.
Remember how Joy Behar was forced to publicly apologize for suggesting that Mike Pence was mentally ill for saying that Jesus Christ talked to him?

In attempt to make connection to real celebrity Bristol Palin claims to have read a book.
OMGD you guys! I just tried to read a book. |
As she copes with her recent split from her estranged husband Dakota Meyer, Bristol Palin is leaning on her Christian faith and reading the inspirational book Chris Pratt relied on during his breakup with his wife Anna Faris.
The 27-year-old mother-of-three took to Instagram Stories on Wednesday to share a photo of Pastor Chad Veach's book 'Faith Forward Future: Moving Past Your Disappointments, Delays, and Destructive Thinking.'
'I saw this on @prattprattpratt ig awhile ago, it is such a great read if you need a little kick in the @$$ (becoming a book worm lately),' she wrote.
Let me just say that as somebody who has read way more than his share of Bristol text messages I find it quite unlikely that she could even sound out three syllable words without a tutor sitting right next to her.
And as for her "Christianity" let me just say that her appearances at any Wasilla church while growing up were few and far between.
Christianity is just the disguise that the Palins wear in an attempt to hide their true nature.
I would not be at all surprised if Bristol actually held out some hope that Chris Pratt, of "Guardians of the Galaxy" fame, might actually reach out to her in response to this article and give her the opportunity to start working on making him her next sugar daddy.
After all a girl has needs.
And for a Palin those needs are mostly financial.

Televangelist is all smiles as he takes ownership of a brand new 3 million dollar private plane.
Courtesy of the Daily Mail:
Controversial televangelist Kenneth Copeland was all smiles on the tarmac near his Fort Worth, Texas mega church as he took delivery of his new $3million Gulfstream V private jet.
'This is a big deal, this is a big plane' he says in a video posted on his ministry's website, before grinning into the lens and asking viewers, 'do you see this? do you see this? I hope so, you bought it. You and Jesus.'
Copeland, who is the head of the Kenneth Copeland Ministries and has his own TV show, bought the jet off Tyler Perry.
Kenneth Copeland isn't the first mega minister to ask his flock to pay for a private plane.
In 2015, Reverend Creflo Dollar raised funds to buy a $70million G650. At first his request for $300 donation from each follower was met with outrage. Later the church decided that the plane was necessary for Creflo's ministry work.
And in 2016, Copeland and fellow televangelist Jesse Duplantis defended their use of private planes on Copeland's TV show 'Believer's Voice of Victory'.
On that show Copeland called flying commercial getting in 'a long tube with a bunch of demons'.
"Hey, are you looking at this? Do you see this? I hope so, you bought it. Ha ha ha."
Any rational person would see this asshole giddily making those remarks and think he was mocking his supporters for allowing him to waste their hard earned money on a private plane, but the people who send him money will just keep right on sending him money.
I sometimes get a little blowback for suggesting that faith in religion is what helps people like Sarah Palin and Donald Trump gain influence and power, but right here you have exhibit A.
Here is a guy, at least as full of shit as Donald Trump, and he has convinced low information TV viewers that he talks directly to God, and that God wants him to live a life of luxury on their dime.
You can safely bet any amount money that the people who bought him this plane, also pulled the lever for Donald Trump in 2016, and will eagerly vote for him again in 2020.

The Pope calls the spreading of "fake news" a "very serious sin." Seriously?
Courtesy of the AP:
Pope Francis is criticizing journalists who dredge up old scandals and sensationalize the news, saying it’s a “very serious sin” that hurts all involved.
Francis, who plans to dedicate his upcoming annual communications message to “fake news,” told Catholic media on Saturday that journalists perform a mission that is among the most “fundamental” to democratic societies.
But he reminded them to provide precise, complete and correct information and not to provide one-sided reports.
The pope said: “You shouldn’t fall into the ‘sins of communication:’ disinformation, or giving just one side, calumny that is sensationalized, or defamation, looking for things that are old news and have been dealt with and bringing them to light today.”
He called those actions a “grave sin that hurts the heart of the journalist and hurts others.”
Look I totally agree with the Popester here that the spreading of fake news is a bad idea.
However does he really want to talk about "disinformation, or giving just one side, calumny that is sensationalized?"
Because I am pretty sure that his entire religion depends on much of that.
For the record there is very little in the Bible that is backed up by actual facts or secular historical documentation.
The entire religion depends on the continued spreading of disinformation and calumny ( the making of false and defamatory statements in order to damage someone's reputation; slander.) Just ask those who have been tortured and killed for heresy or accused of witchcraft.
Yes fake news is bad.
So how much longer will the Pope and his fellow Christians continue to spread it?

Widow of Kentucky politician who committed suicide in response to allegations of sexual misconduct will run for his now vacated seat.
Courtesy of Fox News:
The wife of Kentucky State Rep. Dan Johnson, who killed himself on Wednesday amid a bombshell report's accusations of sexual assault, announced Thursday that she would pursue her husband’s seat, saying “his fight will go on.”
Dan Johnson, a preacher and a Republican, committed suicide Wednesday on a bridge in Mt. Washington, according to Bullitt County Sheriff Donnie Tinnell. The coroner confirmed that Johnson died of a single gunshot wound to the head, and the weapon was found near the 57-year-old's body.
The statement from Johnson’s widow, Rebecca, said she was running for the position because “these high-tech lynchings based on lies and half-truths can’t be allowed to win the day.”
“Dan is gone but the story of his life is far from over,” she said.
I think the story of his life is that he was yet another over privileged white guy who hid behind religion while preying on young girls and when he got caught killed himself.
Seems pretty cut and dried to me.

Atheists have adopted Donald Trump's favorite catch phrase, but I do not think he will appreciate how they put it to use.
Courtesy of NBC News:
Nick Fish, a spokesman for American Atheists, claimed the signs aren’t meant to offend, but to spark a dialogue by adding a topical tag line.
“It’s a way of starting a conversation not just with this organization but within a community,” Fish told NBC News on Wednesday. “The choice is often between being provocative or not being heard at all. If we can start that initial conversation, then we’re doing our jobs to get the ball rolling and get our foot in the door.”
Since the signs were put up on Nov. 30, many atheists in the affected areas have come forward in support of them, Fish said. These atheists claimed that the billboards made them feel as though they weren’t alone in their community.
American Atheists, which has gone after Christian groups as well as other organized religions since they formed in 1963, specifically targeted areas that they felt were particularly religiously homogeneous.
“It’s about targeting areas where religious identity is assumed. Albuquerque is not necessarily a conservative place,” Fish said, “but there is a lot of religious expectation there and we want to challenge that.”
There is of course very little in the Bible that is supported by the facts, so defining it as "fake news" seems perfectly reasonable.
Of course if reason was something that the majority of Christians were to embrace there would be a whole lot fewer Christians.

The Jehovah Witnesses would rather pay a fine of $4,000 a day rather than turn over documents about sexual abuse within the church.
Courtesy of The Week:
The Jehovah's Witnesses have refused to turn over secret documents regarding alleged child sex abuse. And it's getting very, very costly.
A new report from Reveal details how the religion has been mandated to pay $4,000 for every day it doesn't release the documents. So far, the tab has reached $2 million.
It all stems from a court case in which a former Jehovah's Witness and sexual abuse victim sued the religion for not warning congregants they were practicing alongside a confessed child sexual abuser. The accused, Gonzalo Campos, has admitted to abusing children. But the religion's headquarters knew of his conviction and didn't tell the congregation, court documents show.
Reveal has obtained internal Jehovah's Witness documents that suggest this case is part of a much larger cover-up. One of the documents, for example, claims religious elders have been told to keep child abuse allegations a secret since at least 1989.
Okay if you are willing to pay over 2 million dollars in fines rather than reveal documents about sexual abuse that clearly means that there is rampant sexual abuse in this church.
I have long heard that there is an epidemic of sexual abuse within the Jehovah's Witnesses and this certainly lends credibility to those claims.

UN is pulling people out of southeastern Africa due to fear of vampires. That's right, vampires.
Courtesy of The Guardian:
The United Nations has pulled staff out of two districts in southern Malawi where a vampire scare has triggered mob violence in which at least five people have been killed.
Belief in witchcraft is widespread in rural Malawi, one of the world’s poorest countries, where many aid agencies and NGOs work. A spate of vigilante violence linked to vampire rumours also erupted in Malawi in 2002.
“These districts have severely been affected by the ongoing stories of blood sucking and possible existence of vampires,” the UN Department on Safety and Security (UNDSS) said in a security report on the Phalombe and Mulanje districts that was seen by Reuters.
Of course this type of superstitious fear does not stop with Vampirism.
You may have read recently about the murder of numerous children in Africa accused of being witches.
It was so widespread that they had to found a relief effort just to rescue children accused of witchcraft.
This is why I bang the drum so hard against religion on this blog.
You may think that modern Christianity has nothing in common with this type of mass hysteria, but if so then you have not attended a fundamentalist church where talk of demonic possession, fights with the devil, and the ongoing battle between good and evil are peppered throughout Sunday sermons as if they are as common as household pets.
When you tell people that perfectly natural phenomena have a supernatural basis you are potentially disconnecting them from a reality based existence and plunging them into a world of terrifying possibilities which could quite easily convince them that their neighbors, friends, and even children, are demons, witches, and yes, vampires.

Roy Moore wins the Alabama in runoff election. Donald Trump deletes tweets promoting his opponent.
Courtesy of the New York Times:
Roy Moore, a former State Supreme Court chief justice, defeated Senator Luther Strange on Tuesday in the Republican runoff to fill the United States Senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions, now the attorney general. Mr. Moore will face the Democratic nominee, Doug Jones, a former United States attorney, in the general election on Dec. 12.
Odds are that Moore is going to easily defeat Jones, since this is super red state Alabama we are talking about.
By the way in case you missed it Moore's acceptance speech was like listening to an old time tent revival, where he talked about God, and country, and God, and the Senate, and God, and then just to break the monotony, talked about God some more.
This guy is going to make Jeff Sessions look like some liberal, Richard Dawkins quoting, atheist.
The Senate is about to get an injection of that old time religion, whether they are ready for it or not.
For his part Donald Trump seemed embarrassed that he was supporting the relatively sane candidate.
So he performed a little revisionist Twistory.
(Image of deleted tweets courtesy of Mediaite.)
Oh Donald, if it were this easy to change history don't you think we would have gone back and changed the outcome of that last election by now? Silly rabbit.

So now there's a gay Bible, where Rihanna is the Lord. Seems right.
Courtesy of Pride:
Just weeks after becoming the Mayor of Hell, Michigan and banning all heterosexuals from entering the town, comedian Elijah Daniel has now rewritten the holy bible for the gays.
The EDV (Elijah Daniel Version) translation has a few updates from previous editions; Rihanna is God, she made Adam and Steve, not Adam and Eve, and instead of wine, Jesus turns water into mimosas.
Well mimosas have vitamin C, so clearly that is a better choice.
I knew that Lady Gaga had replaced Madonna and Cher awhile back, but I am totally out of the loop concerning Rihanna's rise as a deity.
But anything that irritates the snot out of the Fundamentalists works for me.
And clearly this does that.

Air Force Chaplain writes article claiming that Christian servicemen "serve Satan" by demonstrating respect for other religions.
Courtesy of Newsweek:
A U.S. Air Force chaplain who ministers to thousands of men and women at an Ohio base is asserting that Christians in the U.S. Armed Forces “serve Satan” and are “grossly in error” if they support service members' right to practice other faiths.
The Chaplin, Captain Sonny Hernandez, wrote an article for a website called BarbWire.com, in which he condemned Christian service members for relying on the Constitution “and not Christ.”
Of course American service men and women take an oath to uphold the Constitution, NOT the Bible.
But that did not seem to matter to this guy:
He wrote: “Counterfeit Christians in the Armed forces will appeal to the Constitution, and not Christ, and they have no local church home—which means they have no accountability for their souls (Heb. 13:17). This is why so many professing Christian service members will say: We ‘support everyone’s right’ to practice their faith regardless if they worship a god different from ours because the Constitution protects this right.”
Hernandez continued: “Christian service members who openly profess and support the rights of Muslims, Buddhists, and all other anti-Christian worldviews to practice their religions—because the language in the Constitution permits—are grossly in error, and deceived.”
Apparently there have been a number of complaints against Hernandez in the past but no real action has been taken as of yet.
However now he has come to the attention of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. And its founder Mikey Weinstein has a theory about what it going on:
"America’s military members look to the president for direction and inspiration," Weinstein said. "Trump’s statements and actions have fully endorsed and validated this unbridled tidal wave of fundamentalist Christian persecution, which is now more inextricably intertwined into the very fabric of our Department of Defense than ever before."
The organization says that the number of complaints they receive has doubled since Trump took office, and that seems to reflect the increased racism and rejection of non-Christian religions that we have noticed all across the nation.
This is of course only the beginning. Things are definitely only going to get worse from here.

As another deadly storm threatens our citizens creationist Ken Ham would like to take a moment to remind you that it's all your fault you unrepentant sinners.
Devastating Hurricanes-reminder we live in a fallen groaning world as a result of our sin against a Holy God-it's our fault not God's fault pic.twitter.com/JwAJWN8oQ0— Ken Ham (@aigkenham) September 6, 2017

For the record people do not "believe" in Evolution, but rather than accept and understand the facts of science. For those who reject God & believe evolution, all the bad things in the world are a result of the supposed continuing process of evolution— Ken Ham (@aigkenham) September 6, 2017
Facts don't require faith.
Acknowledge my sinful state, buddy I celebrate my sinful state.Secularists like to mock the Christian God when we see tragedy cause they don't want to acknowledge our sinful state before a Holy God— Ken Ham (@aigkenham) September 6, 2017
It is so hard to believe that in the 21st Century there are still so many idiots condemned to remain trapped in such primitive thought processes and so willing to embrace superstitious nonsense instead of expanding their minds and gaining release from the prison of their fears.

Joel Osteen claims he did not open his megachurch to flood victims until he was shamed on social media because the city did not ask him to.

Pastor Joel Osteen can’t seem to get his story straight about why he didn’t offer his 16,800-seat megachurch in Houston as a shelter sooner for those displaced by Hurricane Harvey.
During an appearance on NBC’s “TODAY” show Wednesday, the head of Lakewood Church said its doors have “always been open.” Minutes later, he appeared to reverse course and admit that the church hadn’t initially encouraged victims to seek shelter there.
“If people were here, they’d realize there were safety issues,” Osteen said during the TV appearance. “We were just being precautious, but the main thing is the city didn’t ask us to become a shelter then.”WATCH: “We were just being precautious, but the main thing is the city didn’t ask us to become a shelter then.” -Pastor @JoelOsteen pic.twitter.com/Qdn5vgm09H— TODAY (@TODAYshow) August 30, 2017
Dozens of Houston-area churches, schools and community centers opened their doors to offer temporary shelter to survivors as Hurricane Harvey pummeled the city earlier this week.
First off "precautious" is not a word.
And secondly what a load of bullshit.
For several days this Lakewood Church and its pastor were shamed on social media to open their doors and help those who desperately needed a warm dry place to stay.
Only THEN did they do anything to help.
Did Jesus refuse to multiply the loaves and fishes until somebody called him out on Twitter?
Did Moses only part the Red Sea after being shamed for sitting on his ass on Instagram?
Actually neither of those things actually happened, but you get my point.
If you are going to call yourself a Christian, and preach to people that they should love and care for each other, while accepting millions of dollars in donations, then shouldn't you at least PRETEND that you embrace the teachings of Jesus Christ?

Michele Bachmann thinks that establishing a hate crime hotline is a violation of the separation of church and state. Wait, what?
Courtesy of Right Wing Watch:
Former Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann was a guest on Jan Markell’s “Understanding The Times” radio program again last weekend, where she claimed that a hotline set up by the city of Minneapolis for reporting hate crimes was fascist and a violation of the separation of church and state.
Last month, Minneapolis announced that a hotline had been established to allow residents to report hate crimes, which include “any crime against a person or property motivated by prejudice against someone’s race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender or gender identity. This includes prejudice-motivated property damage (including graffiti), stalking and assault.”
Bachmann claimed that this hotline is really an attempt to outlaw criticism of Islam and institute Sharia law, insisting that its creation is a violation of the separation of church and state. “What we’re seeing is that hotlines are being set up by units of government for the purpose of encouraging people to call in and rat on their fellow man to report a hate crime,” she warned.
“What they’re trying to do is implement anti-blasphemy laws. They’re trying to implement Islamic Sharia law locally in order to quiet churches and quiet anybody who would talk about what the truth is about Islam.”
“What they want is civilization jihad,” Bachmann continued. “They want jihad through the court system to silence speech because when you take away someone’s speech rights to speak out—like we’re doing right now, to tell the truth about something—then it’s game over … There should be a lawsuit filed against the city of Minneapolis for doing this. They have violated the so-called separation of church and state that the left is so in love with because they’re preferring Islam over any other religion and, number two, they’re fascists. That’s what they are, they’re fascists; they want to shut down your right to free speech.”
For some reason Bachmann believes that the only incidents which Minneapolis will label a "hate crime" is one perpetrated against a Muslim.
However according to the government website, this is how they define a hate crime:
A hate crime is any crime against a person or property motivated by prejudice against someone’s race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender or gender identity. This includes prejudice-motivated property damage (including graffiti), stalking and assault.
Look at that, not one word about Islam.
For all intents and purposes Michele Bachmann has dropped off the radar, but I just wanted to share this to remind everybody that the batshit crazy did not arrive with Donald Trump.
The batshit crazy was already in place among the Right Wing conservatives just waiting to welcome Donald Trump into the fold.

Things must be bad if it has driven Donald Trump to prayer.
Source |
Though he will play the part of one in order to fool the Evangelicals into voting for him.
The story behind this photo is that it was a "laying on of hands" by evangelical leaders invited into the Oval Office.
Now why does this seem so familiar?
Oh yeah, that's right.
I wonder if this will be as big of a fail for Trump as it was for Palin way back in the day?

Sarah Palin is going on a "Mom's March for America." WTF?
Courtesy of Desperation Barbie's Facebook page:
Mama Grizzlies on the March! I'm Looking forward to joining Candy Carson, Missy Robertson and many other Mama Grizzlies as we march across America this September. Hope to see you there! --->
According to the website:
On September 23, 2017, HomeMakers for America, in partnership with conservative, faith-based and constitutional advocacy groups across the nation, will hold a Moms March for America!
Moms and families will unite across the nation to promote a message of hope and decency as we stand for truth, family, freedom and the Constitution. The center of the march is Omaha, Nebraska, but you don’t have to come to Omaha to join the march. The event will be broadcast live so you can join the march wherever you are!
If you are finished chuckling about the idea of Sarah Palin as a homemaker I will proceed.
As you might imagine this is an uber Christian organization that sees the woman's natural role as that of a homemaker and mother, and is attempting to reinforce that those are the most lofty goals for females in this country.
The fact that they have invited Sarah Palin to be a speaker is ironic to say the least.
Here was a woman who could not wait to hand the responsibility of raising her children and maintaining her home to literally anybody who was willing to take that on.
She had staff members, family members, hired helpers, and eventually her own children handle those responsibilities from almost the very beginning.
The other women listed as speakers include Candy Carson, Hud Secretary Ben Carson's wife, and Missy Robertson, one of the Duck Dynasty morons.
Both of them are also fundamentalist Christians and so this is all in keeping with Palin's most recent attempts to remake herself as some kind of internet evangelist.
However if anybody thinks this means that Palin actually supports women, well then I have some Alaskan swampland I would like to sell you.
I am not sure what the payoff is for Palin aside from the fact that somebody is actually paying attention to her and asking her to speak, but I would bet money that there is one.
I guess this will at least give her something to do other than putting one word exclamations on Facebook posts that link to Right Wing propaganda outlets.
