Former RNC head Michael Steele stunned to learn that he was only hired as the token black.

Courtesy of The Hill:

Former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele said Saturday that a suggestion from a CPAC official that Steele was only chosen to lead the RNC because he is black underscores a tense relationship with race within the GOP.

"It’s the groupthink that has emerged within the party that has now poisoned the national dialogue," Steele said on his SiriusXM show "Steele & Ungar."

"To hear it come from a young man ... a minority himself ... it makes it even crazier," Steele added.

His comments came the morning after Ian Walters, the communications director for the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) being held at the National Harbor, Md., told an audience that Steele was only elected RNC chair because "he was a black guy."

Steele offered a bunch of excuses to try and explain why this statement was not true, but come on we all know that it is.

Steele was elected to head the RNC IMMEDIATELY after Barack Obama won the presidency.

The second they announced Steele's appointment I knew why they put him there.

It was for the same reason that they nominated Sarah Palin to be McCain's running mate.

It's called "tokenism" and it is rampant throughout the Republican party.

Remember how Trump referred to that guy behind him as "My black guy."

"See I can't be a racist because I have one of my own black people."

And we know they do this because of a little thing called "projection."

Think back to how many times you have seen some Right Wing dipshit accuse the Democrats of "using the black people," or of only treating them like property that they can manipulate into voting for them, without ever doing anything to meet their needs.

Of course that completely ignores the fact that many of the Democrats ARE African Americans who of course are sympathetic to the needs of their constituents.

But that is what projection is, taking your own despicable traits and projecting them onto others.

If Michael Steele did not realize that he was being used, well then he deserves to have been manipulated by a party that never gave a shit about him, or people like him.

Sources say longtime bodyguard testified that the Russians offered to send five women to Trump's hotel room before the Miss Universe contest and they were told no. Seriously? Update!

Courtesy of NBC News:

After a business meeting before the Miss Universe Pageant in 2013, a Russian participant offered to "send five women" to Donald Trump's hotel room in Moscow, his longtime bodyguard told Congress this week, according to three sources who were present for the interview.

Two of the sources said the bodyguard, Keith Schiller, viewed the offer as a joke, and immediately responded, "We don't do that type of stuff.

"The two sources said Schiller's comments came in the context of him adamantly disputing the allegations made in the Trump dossier, written by a former British intelligence operative, which describes Trump having an encounter with prostitutes at the hotel during the pageant. Schiller described his reaction to that story as being, "Oh my God, that's bull----," two sources said.

The conversation with the Russian about the five women took place after a morning meeting about the pageant in Moscow broke up, two sources said.

That night, two sources said, Schiller said he discussed the conversation with Trump as Trump was walking back to his hotel room, and Schiller said the two men laughed about it as Trump went to bed alone. Schiller testified that he stood outside Trump's hotel room for a time and then went to bed.

One source noted that Schiller testified he eventually left Trump's hotel room door and could not say for sure what happened during the remainder of the night.

"We don't do that kind of stuff?"

Has this guy actually ever spent any time with his boss?

That kind of stuff was all he did for most of this life.

And the fact that Schiller was not around the room for the rest of the night means that Trump could have certainly had some Russian provided prostitutes over to do a little urinating for his entertainment.

All this says to me is that the possibility of that "pee pee" tape emerging just went up about a 100%.

Update:

Like I said, up 100%

The Washington Post reveals that a Clinton attorney and the DNC helped to fund some of the research that went into that Russian dossier. And that's a good thing.

Courtesy of WaPo:

The Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee helped fund research that resulted in a now-famous dossier containing allegations about President Trump’s connections to Russia and possible coordination between his campaign and the Kremlin, people familiar with the matter said.

Marc E. Elias, a lawyer representing the Clinton campaign and the DNC, retained Fusion GPS, a Washington firm, to conduct the research.

After that, Fusion GPS hired dossier author Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer with ties to the FBI and the U.S. intelligence community, according to those people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Elias and his law firm, Perkins Coie, retained the company in April 2016 on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the DNC. Before that agreement, Fusion GPS’s research into Trump was funded by an unknown Republican client during the GOP primary.

The Clinton campaign and the DNC, through the law firm, continued to fund Fusion GPS’s research through the end of October 2016, days before Election Day.

Okay so first off this is not really news.

In fact I wrote a post before election day that linked to a Mother Jones story which said the following:

This was for an opposition research project originally financed by a Republican client critical of the celebrity mogul. (Before the former spy was retained, the project's financing switched to a client allied with Democrats.) "It started off as a fairly general inquiry," says the former spook, who asks not to be identified. But when he dug into Trump, he notes, he came across troubling information indicating connections between Trump and the Russian government. According to his sources, he says, "there was an established exchange of information between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin of mutual benefit."

At the time David Corn, the author of the Mother Jones piece, did not identify Christopher Steel by name, nor did he seem to know who the "client allied with the Democrats" was for sure, but I think most of us probably assumed they would be connected to the Clinton campaign or some big DNC donor.

The important point of the article was that people were finally reporting on what was in the dossier after the original Republican operatives stopped paying the bills, and the information was almost lost for all time.

Yesterday some troll in the comments section attempted to make the case that this muddies the waters, and that it proves the Democrats were also engaged in the same sort of shady dealings to undermine the Republican candidate that the Trump campaign was using in their attempt to undermine the Clinton campaign.

But of course that is ridiculous as this is NOT a case of a campaign working hand in hand with an adversarial foreign government which hacked one party's computers, and paid millions of dollars to spread misinformation, to help that campaign's candidate get elected.

The Democrats were actually working to reveal information which has now proven critical in understanding just how compromised Donald Trump and his campaign staff were by the Russians during the 2016 campaign cycle.

Ultimately if Trump gets impeached this Russian dossier may prove to be the key to making that happen, and at the very least it allowed us to be vigilant when it came to how Trump defers to Vladimir Putin, and focused our attention on the fact that he seems extremely reluctant to support the Russian sanctions voted into place by the majority of the Republicans in the House and Senate.

Here is how Josh Marshall of TPM summed this up yesterday:

The country owes the Democrats a debt of gratitude for keeping Steele’s research going. The FBI had apparently missed a lot of what he found.

I’ve heard some suggest that the Clinton campaign had denied that it helped fund Steele’s work. Or maybe that Elias had. I don’t know if that’s the case or not. It’s possible that the Clinton camp or the DNC didn’t know they had. The Post piece suggests they didn’t know that Fusion GPS was involved.

If someone lied, then by all means identify that person as lying. Even call them a liar. But in the big picture, who cares? Even in the small picture who cares. It was a service to the country. Donald Trump and his campaign knowingly accepted assistance from a foreign adversary power. There’s good reason to believe, though as yet no hard proof, that they agreed to help Russia in exchange for assistance subverting the 2016 campaign. The President is still actively covering up for the Russian effort, as of this week.

Whether the execs at top of the Clinton campaign knew about it, Marc Elias may have helped save his country by making the decision to fund this critical research. Thank you, Marc Elias! I know that sounds a bit hyperbolic but it’s really not.

Yes, and I agree completely with that.

We are suffering a national crisis right now in this country.

Marc Elias and the DNC attempted to keep that from happening, and failing that they may have been instrumental in providing the tools needed to eventually stop it.

In my book that makes them heroes.

When liberals clash. Last night Bill Maher and Sam Harris tried to discuss the liberal reticence to talk about how Islamic beliefs foster oppression and violence. Things did not go well.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

Bill Maher and author and neuroscientist Sam Harris battled actor/director Ben Affleck on Real Time on Friday concerning Maher’s recent remarks criticizing Islam.

“Why are you so hostile about this?” Maher asked Affleck.

“It’s gross, it’s racist,” Affleck replied.

“It’s so not,” Maher insisted, though Affleck compared it to using the term, “Shifty Jew.”

“You’re not listening to what we are saying,” Maher insisted.

“You guys are saying, if you want to be liberal, believe in liberal principles,” Affleck said, referencing Maher’s monologue last week. “Like, we are endowed by our forefathers with inalienable rights, all men are created equal.”

Harris, who had complained about criticism of the Muslim religion being dismissed as Islamophobic, countered that liberals should be allowed to criticize bad ideas.

“Islam is the motherload of bad ideas,” Harris argued.

 “Jesus,” Affleck said in frustration.

“That’s just a fact,” Maher said, backing Harris up.

I sort of watched this whole exchange with the same discomfort that a child feels while watching his parents fight. In this case I really empathized with both points of view, but also felt that Harris and Maher were trying to make a nuanced point but could not get past Affleck's hyperbolic responses.

Ultimately I have to side with Harris and Maher in recognizing that simply because somebody COULD be labeled an Islamophobe for daring to criticize a religion that is often under attack by bigots, does not mean that one should not continue to make critical observations and ask probing questions about the tenets of that religion, or the actions of those that follow it.

In some ways it is similar to being labeled a "Trig Truther" for making reasonable and obvious observations about Palin's last pregnancy, or a "9-11 Truther" for suggesting that the 9-11 Commission's report is unsatisfying and still leaves many questions unanswered.

Here at IM I have often been criticized for not talking about the atrocities that occur in Islamic states and instead focusing on the scandals that plague Christians in this country as well as their attempts to hijack our secular government.

Of course the reason for that is because it is always better to deal with garbage rotting in your own backyard before complaining about the smell coming from your neighbor's.

To be honest I am almost completely repulsed by virtually every story I hear coming out of many Islamic countries. Yet on the other hand I, of course, have met a few Muslims who were extremely pleasant people.

My over under on all of this is that a number of  religions left unfettered represent great danger to those not in a position of power.

While I would more aggressively condemn fundamentalist Muslims for supporting murder in the case of apostasy, female genital mutilation, and barbaric practices in response to sex acts not sanctioned by the Koran,  I am quite confident that if fundamental Christians, and yes even Jews, lived in an environment where nobody dared to challenge them, they would gladly indulge in similar oppressive activities themselves. (And in some places that is happening as we speak.)

There are currently so many atrocities committed by those hiding behind the Koran, that I almost would not know where to start. However that does not mean that I believe the extremists overseas present a more imminent danger to this country than our homegrown extremists here, because I don't.

Bill Maher and Bill Nye discuss science and faith.

Here are a few excerpts that I found interesting.

Maher. jokingly: "You're quoting facts, how much do we really know about facts? "

Nye laughs.

Maher: "But that's the problem, is that facts themselves have become subject to debate, and this must drive you fucking nuts."

Nye shakes his head despair and growls his frustration: "No it really is troubling because you...

Maher: "Well you are used to explaining things to children, explain to Republicans right now."

Audience explodes in laughter.

Then a few minutes later.

Maher: "You should give religion the hard time. I mean I read that you were in, I think it was, Texas and you quoted Genesis. Something like God made two great lights, the sun and the moon, and you pointed out to the crowd that the moon, of course, is not a light itself it's just reflecting the light from the sun. And they threw a shit fit and stormed out of the room."

Nye: "A woman grabbed her kids by the wrist and took them out. Which was kind of cool, but also troubling."

Maher: "But you cannot see that and not know that religion is the enemy of science, and when people say we can reconcile science and faith, NO we can't!"

You know I think if we are honest with ourselves, we have to admit that this last statement, as upsetting and provocative as it is, is also true.

I do not always feel sorry for Michael Steele, but watching him squirm during this segment kind of made me wish he would have stood up and said, "Fuck it I'm a Democrat now!"

By the way just in case you are one of those who do not think that religion has been used to dumb down our country and politics, just take a gander at this story:

On Tuesday, a bill that would have created an honorary (i.e. unpaid) American Science Laureate position to "travel around the country to inspire future scientists" was sent packing by House Republicans after an influential conservative organization lost their minds over it and wrote a bunch of angry letters. Their reason for opposing the measure? Obviously, that would be the vast liberal conspiracy to promote policies based on the extensive scientific evidence of climate change.

In a letter to House leadership, Science reported on Friday, Larry Hart of the American Conservative Union wrote that an Obama-appointed Science Laureate would give the president a yes man of sorts on environmental policy, someone “who will share his view that science should serve political ends, on such issues as climate change and regulation of greenhouse gases." It seems this is a fear injected into the House by Hart himself, as the previously uncontroversial bill had broad bipartisan support, even from Rep. Lamar Smith, who wanted to put the process of scientific peer review under governmental oversight. Smith, a Republican, is the chair of the House Science Committee. He introduced the bill with democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren.

A staffer for another Republican supporter of the bill, Representative Randy Hultgren, reminded Science that the Science Laureate position is primarily aimed at getting children interested in science. Which, come on, we all should be able to agree on this. "There would be no taxpayer money involved," the staffer said, adding, "this bill is simply a chance to show our children that discovery science is important and that science can be an exciting and rewarding career.”

What has this got to do with religion you might ask? Well religion creates the foundation for denying facts which challenge belief, whether it be belief in Creationism, or belief that Climate Change is a bunch of hooey.

Of course it is getting harder to blame the religious conservatives for wanting to make people suspicious of science, especially since science is making this quote by Neil deGrasse Tyson,“God is an ever-receding pocket of scientific ignorance that's getting smaller and smaller and smaller as time moves on,”  more prescient with every new discovery.

Such as this one:

Scientists have discovered a 'cosmic factory' for producing the building blocks of life, amino acids, in research published today in the journal Nature Geoscience.

The researchers suggest that this process provides another piece to the puzzle of how life was kick-started on Earth, after a period of time between 4.5 and 3.8 billion years ago when the planet had been bombarded by comets and meteorites.

Oil and water, science and religion, Sarah Palin and intelligence, some things simply do NOT go together.

How does she do it? Sarah Palin has RNC sending money to her attorney for "legal bills." WTF?

Recently Hotline on Call broke the story that the RNC is STILL paying some of Sarah Palin's legal bills, having written a check as recently as September 1, 2010, for more than $129,000.00:

The RNC has sent more than $129K to an Anchorage law firm to cover legal bills incurred during former Gov. Sarah Palin's (R-AK) run for vice president, a senior party official tells Hotline On Call.

The party cut the check on Sept. 1 to Clapp, Peterson, Van Flein, Tiemessen & Thorsness LLC, an Anchorage law firm that defended Palin from myriad ethics charges following her campaign.

Political opponents in Alaska filed complaints against Palin surrounding her travel during and after the campaign.

"The disbursement relates to legal fees incurred during the summer and fall of 2008, when Democrats engaged in a partisan witch hunt against Gov. Palin. Based on conversations in 2008, the RNC decided to step in to help," said Doug Heye, the RNC's communications director.

If your jaw just hit the floor and your head is now full of "WTF?," then welcome to the party,  because that is EXACTLY how all of the rest of us feel.  No way does this make any damn sense.

After all:

Isn't this woman now a multi-millionaire?

Doesn't she have a defense fund dedicated to paying these very bills? (Of course this is her SECOND legal defense fund after the FIRST one was found to be illegal.)

And besides that isn't the RNC broke?

With about $5 million in the bank and at least $2 million in debt, the RNC is not going to be able to fund such paid get-out-the-vote activities as direct mail and robocalls for gubernatorial and Senate races. Instead, the national party is focused on using its limited resources to assist GOP candidates in targeted House races, which are more inexpensive, with turnout efforts.

So why would a struggling Republican National Committee be paying a multi-millionaire's legal bills for for ethics complaints that she incurred while Governor of Alaska? Obviously there has to be more to this story, and journalists who read about it decided to look into it further in an attempt to answer some of the question listed above.

Here is one follow up filed by the Washington Times:

The Republican National Committee is paying off some of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's sizable legal fees dating back to the 2008 presidential campaign in exchange for her help raising money for the financially strapped RNC during the campaign season, The Washington Times has learned.

OH!  I see.....wait what?

RNC Treasurer Randy Pullen, who co-signed the check with RNC Chief Administrative Officer Boyd Rutherford, said Mr. Rutherford told him the check was in exchange for Mrs. Palin's help with RNC Chairman Michael S. Steele to raise money for midterm election campaigns.

"The initial payment was for Palin to do several different fundraising events and sign fundraising letters for the RNC," Mr. Pullen said. He said the RNC has committed to sending the Anchorage law firm a second check of an equal amount, which would bring the total to $257,037.70.

"Fundraising?"  What "fundraising?"  She refused to attend the RNC fundraiser in April. And though she DID show up to the Ronald Reagan dinner in Iowa last Friday, in her speech she essentially dissed the RNC in favor of the Teabaggers. And the only "fundraising letter" I know of is this racially charged piece of propaganda that she sent out in August.  Let's be serious is any of THAT worth in excess of $257,000?

What is really going on?

Did the RNC make some sort of commitment to Palin while she was the VP candidate to handle her legal bills?

Mr. Steele's immediate predecessor, Robert M. "Mike" Duncan, who was RNC chairman in 2008, said there was no authorization to pay Mrs. Palin's legal bills while he was chairman. He said the process when he ran the party required approval for such payments from the RNC's chief counsel, chief of staff and chief financial officer, with the party chairman and general counsel brought in if necessary.

"To the best of my knowledge, all of the governor's necessary and proper legal bills that could be paid by the RNC or by the RNC and the campaign ... were paid before I left office," Mr. Duncan said.

Well there was no equivocation in THAT statement now was there?

Okay then do OTHER Republicans get paid to raise funds for the RNC?

Former RNC Chairman Frank J. Fahrenkopf said he could not recall a similar arrangement for those helping the party build its financial base during his tenure.

"Wow. I never paid anyone money to make speeches and sign direct-mail appeals," Mr. Fahrenkopf said.

Another RNC veteran said such an arrangement was unusual.

"For the most part, people donate their time to help fellow Republicans win races," added former RNC General Counsel David Norcross. "But I can't say that paying for that time has never been done before."

So giving the RNC, and Palin, the benefit of the doubt, and, even though it is highly unusual,  these payments really were for "services rendered", then WHY say they are for her "legal bills?"

I don't know about any of you but in my mind this Washington Times piece actually raises many more questions than it answers.  I am all the way up here in Alaska and I can still smell the stink coming off of this "deal."

I will bring you more on this story as it becomes available, and if any of you happen to stumble across any new information please leave it in the comments section.  I don't believe for an instant that this is the last we will hear about Sarah Palin and her sugar daddy Michael Steele.

Having a little fun with Jib-Jab this Fourth of July.

Personalize funny videos and birthday eCards at JibJab!

I thought that considering the question of Palin taking Steele's job, adding them to the card seemed topical.

This is my first attempt at modifying one of these cards. Not bad, I guess.

Should Sarah Palin head the RNC? Yes please!

From the National Review:

Allow me to chime in with my usual observation on this subject: This is a job for Sarah Palin. Palin would be a much better RNC chairman than presidential candidate or freelance kingmaker. She'd raise tons of money and help recruit good candidates, i.e., she'd excel at doing the things Steele should have been doing instead of appointing himself Republican pundit-at-large.

A Chairman Palin would help set the right tone for the Republican party without having to get herself entangled in the minutiae of policy-development, which has not been her forte. Sure, she'd be polarizing, but so is Barack Obama, and these are polarized times. And it's one thing to have a polarizing party chairman, another to have a polarizing candidate.

This is another one of those stories that I tried to ignore but which just keeps showing up in my inbox, over, and over, and over again.

Okay first things first, she won't take it.  Even though I agree that Michael Steele does not do a very good job, he IS actually doing the job.  Sarah Palin is all photo-ops and crappy speeches, she doesn't do ACTUAL work. Besides there is no way she would stand in front of the press and agree to be interviewed as Steele has readily done on numerous occasions. (Even though, to be honest, there WERE times he would have been better off pulling a Palin and keeping his mouth shut.)

Second she will just up and quit. (Probably right after her very first press conference when she realizes that they let other networks in besides Fox News.)

Third, the woman is making tons of money prostituting herself the the low hanging fruit of this country, WHY would she take a job that paid her a tiny fraction of that and which actually required her to DO SOMETHING?

Anyhow that is my opinion. What do you think?

Update: Just to confuse the Teabaggers even further Ron Paul has now come out in support of Michael Steele's recent remarks:

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, whose remarks suggesting the U.S. will lose the war in Afghanistan have prompted some Republicans to demand his resignation, won praise from Representative Ron Paul.

“Michael Steele should not resign,” Paul, a Texas Republican and former Libertarian Party presidential candidate, said today in a statement. “Michael Steele has it right and Republicans should stick by him.”

Oooh Ron Paul vs Sarah Palin  Now that would cause teabagger heads all over the country to explode.

Monday, April 05, 2010

Michael Steele dismisses Sarah Palin kerfuffle, cites racism as reason he has smaller margin of error, and says he is not going anywhere despite Republican calls for his resignation. Damn, am I loving this!

Steele was asked if he felt he has a smaller margin of error than others because he's black.

"The honest answer is yes. It just is," the former Maryland lieutenant governor said. "Barack Obama has a slimmer margin than others."

When was the last time YOU heard the Chairman of the RNC discussing that he and the Democratic President of the United States faced the same kind of prejudice?  Wow, that has to make the GOP sphincters tighten right up doesn't it?

Thursday, April 01, 2010

It looks like Barack Obama is not the only black man the Republicans refuse to work with.

From the New York Daily News:

In the wake of an embarrassing spending spree of nearly $2,000 at a risque strip joint, which led to one staffer being fired, a new report suggests donors are abandoning the Republican National Committee - and have been for a while.

"There are a whole lot of troubling things going on," a major GOP donor told The Daily Caller.

The source claims prominent Republican donors have stopped handing their money over to the RNC. Instead, they're pouring their pocketbooks into the coffers of the GOP's Senatorial Committee.

It looks as if the focus of much of this frustration is focused on the GOP's own special "magic negro" Michael Steele, who the RNC elected in a knee jerk reaction to the election of Barack Obama.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele "allowed a certain climate to exist" that resulted in the committee paying for a now infamous visit to a Los Angeles strip club, a senior RNC committeeman told Fox News.

Steele's critics point to the strip club story as another in a series of controversies in which his leadership has been found wanting. The chairman's office has rejected such flak as unwarranted by the facts in the case. RNC spokesman Doug Heye also points out that Steele was not at Voyeur, did not have any knowledge of the expenditure and finds the use of committee funds at such a location unacceptable.

The hypocrisy is astounding.  If the Republican voters really believe that this is the first time that the RNC has shown their big donors a good time at a strip club, using RNC money, then I have some swampland in Wasilla to sell them. This is being pumped up and trotted out by the Republican movers and shakers behind the scenes who NEVER wanted Michael Steele to be their chairman and who are looking to get rid of him without being labeled, what everybody in the country already know they are, racists.

So now the Republicans are suddenly shocked that these kinds of things take place ("What? Strip Clubs?  Why I never!") and are pulling their support. Not because of that dark skinned fellow, but because the RNC today is nothing like the RNC of the past, when the only real difference is that the man standing at the helm doesn't need to spend his money on tanning beds like John Boehner and Sarah Palin do. (Maybe the real reason they don't like Michael Steele is "pigment envy".)

Republican party admits manipulating its donors into giving more money.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Oh give me a fucking break! Michael Steele is not upset that his party uses these tactics to raise money. He is upset that the press found out about it!

The GOP has been using this practice for years. Whether it be gay rights, abortion rights, or fear of terrorism, these assholes have no problem scaring the ignorant people who still support their broken party into smashing open their piggy banks and sending them their hard earned money. Hey simply frighten their constituents into curling up in the fetal position and then pick their pockets while they are too frightened to resist.

Even ex-Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean is stunned at the lack of respect the GOP demonstrates toward it's own donors.

Sarah Palin attacks President Obama for trying to fix the problems left by the Bush administration and praises Michael Steele for...hell I don't know.

Here is a statement issued by Sarah Palin concerning her opinion that President Obama is bad for Alaskans, but RNC Chairman Michale Steele is our "friend". WTF?

"The transition from Candidate Obama to President Obama has been as predictable as Alaska's winter snow," (Oooh poetry!) Palin said in a statement issued through her political action committee, SarahPac. "'Change' in this administration has meant rapid movement toward massive government growth, huge tax burdens on future generations, and an unprecedented reliance upon foreign countries." (I imagine if somebody brings up the massive debt accrued for our children's children to pay off by the Bush administration Palin just puts her fingers in her ears and goes "Lalalala, I can't heeeear you")

Palin then switched gears to praise Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele as a "man who understands what Alaskans believe." (What? How does she figure that? Micheal Steele cannot even figure out what other African Americans want, or other members of his party want, how could he possibly understand what Alaskans want? It is a safe bet that Sarah Palin couldn't have told hm, that much is for sure.)

"We have a friend in RNC Chairman Michael Steele and his bold and courageous speech defines his leadership goals that will guide us all through this most difficult time for our nation," Palin said.

What speech is she talking about? THIS Speech?

Is that not perhaps one of the dumbest speeches you have ever heard? The only thing courageous about it is that he had the guts to show his face after giving it. He makes the comment that "Republicans will no longer look backward" and then only minutes later refers to Ronald Reagan. How does somebody "look forward" with his head shoved that far up his own ass?

How Sarah Palin decides that this guy is a better friend to Alaska then the guy that just sent us 930 million dollars is absolutely beyond my ability to comprehend. Exactly what is Michael Steele going to DO for Alaska?

Not a goddamn thing, that's what!

Governor Sarah is simply backing the Chairman, and attacking the President, because she believes it is the politically smart thing to do. Wrong again Sarah!

I think it is clear that when it comes to aligning yourself with the most helpful political ally, that Sarah Palin has the worst instincts on the planet. Well with the obvious exception of one John McCain of course.

Michale Steele, the GOP's "Not so Magic Negro", has decided to tie gay marriage to rising health care costs. Ow that makes my head hurt!

Republicans can reach a broader base by recasting gay marriage as an issue that could dent pocketbooks as small businesses spend more on health care and other benefits, GOP Chairman Michael Steele said Saturday.

Steele said that was just an example of how the party can retool its message to appeal to young voters and minorities without sacrificing core conservative principles. Steele said he used the argument weeks ago while chatting on a flight with a college student who described herself as fiscally conservative but socially liberal on issues like gay marriage.

"Now all of a sudden I've got someone who wasn't a spouse before, that I had no responsibility for, who is now getting claimed as a spouse that I now have financial responsibility for," Steele told Republicans at the state convention in traditionally conservative Georgia. "So how do I pay for that? Who pays for that? You just cost me money."

I am sorry, but how is adding your gay life partner to your health insurance policy, any different than having a bachelor marry his sweetheart? Using this same logic shouldn't the Republicans be advocating against "opposite marriage" as well? I mean if you keep everybody single and childless than that keeps the company health care costs lower, right?

Does Michael Steele EVER think before he talks? In my opinion this just provides more evidence that the ONLY reason this guy got his job is because of the color of his skin.

If I were a Republican, and thank the gods I am not, I would be terrified every time this guy opened his mouth. And if I were one of the very few Black Republicans in this country I would be working to get him kicked out of his position as chairman before he sets the cause of African Americans back two hundred years.

Friday, May 01, 2009

What a great day in America! We have an African American as President and the GOP has an African American leading their par...whoops not so fast!

Under attack from conservatives since taking office on Jan. 30, Michael S. Steele on Wednesday blasted a group of members pushing for new checks and balances on the chairman's spending powers, accusing them of a power grab "scheme."

"I have just returned from an overseas trip to learn that the five of you have developed a scheme to transfer the RNC chairman's authority to the treasurer and the executive committee," Mr. Steele wrote in an e-mail he sent to Randy Pullen, the RNC's elected treasurer, and Blake Hall, the committee's general counsel, as well as to three former RNC officers.

Mr. Pullen and four other veteran members have proposed a resolution that imposes new controls on Mr. Steele's power to award contracts and spend money on outside legal and other services. The group needs signatures from RNC members from 16 states to force the resolution to the floor for a vote by the full party committee at the May 20 special meeting.

"It is of course not lost on me that each of you worked tirelessly down to the last minute in an effort to stop me from becoming chairman," Mr. Steele wrote.

Okay so here I was getting all ready to be incensed at the treatment Mr. Steele is receiving at the hands of the GOP.

"The just put him in the position of chairman to head off charges of racism within the Republican party" I was gong to say.

"The GOP is so deeply racist at its core that they simply cannot allow a black man to truly control any part of their party" I was going to add.

"Just like in the miniseries ROOTS, they have taken Kunta Kinte and tried to make into their own personal Toby" was going to be my final shot.

But then I saw this video:

Okay kids make note of this day because today Gryphen, of the Immoral Minority, thinks the GOP may be right. That's right you heard me.

I have seen some other footage of Michael Steele as well, and damn there is something really screwed up about this guy. He says some of the dumbest things on camera I have ever heard. It makes me wonder how many absolutely ridiculous things he might say when the cameras are NOT rolling.

So I am telling the Republicans that if they dump this guy they are getting a free pass from me. Because I simply could not blame them.

Saturday Night Live last night was brilliant!

Oh yeah! I am loving "The Rock Obama". I think this may be the fantasy of a whole bunch of Democrats in this country.

I am not sure he is offering enough money. And oh don't I miss those Nigerian scam e-mails! I haven't heard from those people in over eight years.

Boy I wish I could get one of those electrodes. I know just the people who need one.

Rush Limbaugh and Michael Steele are in a battle over who is the REAL leader of the Republican party. Oooh this should be good!

Okay so let me set this up for you.

This weekend Michael Steele, the Republicans "Magic Negro", the man they believe will help soften their image among African Americans, went on the D.L. Hughley show. (I am a BIG fan of Hughley!)

On the show Mr. Steele was confronted with what Rush said at CPAC.

"This notion that I want the president to fail, this shows you the problem we've got. This is nothing more than common sense and to not be able to say it? Why in the world would I want what we just described: rampant government growth, wealth that is not being created yet is being spent? What is in this, what is possibly in this that any of us want to succeed? Did the Democrats want the war of Iraq to fail? They certainly did. And they not only wanted the war in Iraq to fail they proclaimed it a failure.... They hoped George Bush failed. So what is so strange about being honest and saying I want Barack Obama to fail if his mission is to restructure and reform this country so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundation?"

When asked about this and the fact that Rush Limbaugh is the de facto head of the Republican party, this is what Michael Steel had to say.

Now Rush has taken umbrage at this and made these comments on his radio show:

Okay, so I am an entertainer, and I have 20 million listeners, 22 million listeners because of my great song-and-dance routines here. Yes, said Michael Steele, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, I'm incendiary, and yes, it's ugly. Michael Steele, you are head of the RNC. You are not head of the Republican Party. Tens of millions of conservatives and Republicans have nothing to do with the RNC and right now they want nothing to do with it, and when you call them asking them for money, they hang up on you. I hope that changes. I hope the RNC will get its act together. I hope the RNC chairman will realize he's not a talking head pundit, that he is supposed to be working on the grassroots and rebuilding it, and maybe doing something about our open primary system and fixing it so that Democrats do not nominate our candidates. It's time, Mr. Steele, for you to go behind the scenes and start doing the work that you were elected to do instead of trying to be some talking head media star, which you're having a tough time pulling off. I hope you figure out how to run a primary system. But it seems to me that it's Michael Steele who is off to a shaky start.

You know this may be the first thing the Republicans have done in years that I am totally on board with.

Go ahead boys, beat each other senseless. Kick, spit, trip, suckerpunch, backstab, and eye gouge to your hearts content. All you are doing is making yourself even less effective then your failed policies have made you.

And while you are doing that the liberals will finally patch the country back together and hopefully you will no longer be in a position to rip it apart again.

Update: Well now it looks like Michael Steels has acquiesced to Limbaugh's overwhelming popularity and apologized to him. Well now there is no doubt that Rush Limbaugh is in FACT the leader of the Republican party. Beautiful!
