One of the guys behind "pizza-gate" tries to accuse Senator Chuck Schumer of sexual misconduct using a forged document.

Wait, what did they day I did?
Courtesy of he Daily Beast:

A forged document accusing the top Democrat in the Senate of sexual harassment copied language verbatim from a real sexual-harassment complaint filed against Rep. John Conyers.

On Tuesday afternoon, right-wing social media personalities Charles Johnson and Mike Cernovich boasted of obtaining a document that would put a senator out of a job.

“Michael Cernovich & I are going to end the career of a U.S. Senator,” Johnson posted on Facebook on Monday.

The senator was Minority Leader Charles Schumer of New York, Axios first reported.

But the document was fake. A copy of the document, obtained by The Daily Beast, purports to be draft lawsuit complaint against Schumer by a former staffer. It accuses him of sexual harassment. Schumer’s office told The Daily Beast the document and her signature are forgeries. Schumer’s office said the senator was not in Washington, D.C. or the United States during several dates in the document when he is said to have harassed the staffer.

“The document is a forged document and every allegation is false,” Schumer spokesperson Matt House told The Daily Beast. “We have turned it over to the Capitol Police and asked them to investigate and pursue criminal charges because it is clear the law has been broken. We believe the individual responsible for forging the document should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law to prevent other malicious actors from doing the same.”

The former staffer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the document was a forgery.

This Mike Cernovich guy is the same asshole who claimed that coded messages in John Podesta's hacked emails showed that Hillary Clinton and other prominent Democrats were involved in a child sex ring in a DC pizza joint.

Currently Cernovich is trying to save face by claiming that he was duped by whoever was shopping this around, but the forgery should have been fairly obvious to anybody who was utilizing critical thinking skills.
Look we need to listen to women reporting on sexual harassment, even if the person being accused is one of our guys, or even a personal hero.

However we also have to maintain a certain amount of healthy skepticism because this #MeToo movement is a powerful tool, and clearly folks with a partisan agenda can use it to attack and even defeat those who they perceive as enemies of their cause.

And by the way this goes for both sides.

Even if we REALLY want to believe that somebody we dislike did something terrible, we still need to pay attention to the evidence and let THAT dictate their guilt or innocence.

Rep. John Conyers announces he will not seek reelection amid allegations of sexual harassment.

Courtesy of the New York Times:

Representative John Conyers Jr., who faces allegations that he sexually harassed former employees, announced Tuesday that he will leave Congress immediately, and he endorsed his son, John Conyers III, to replace him.

Mr. Conyers, the longest-serving current member of the House and the longest-serving African-American in history, called into a local radio show on Tuesday to announce, “I am retiring today.”

“I am in the process of putting together my retirement plans. I will have more about that very soon,” Mr. Conyers said from a hospital in Michigan.

He continued to deny that he had harassed any of his former employees and said he did not know where the allegations came from.

“My legacy can’t be compromised or diminished in any way by what we are going through now,” Mr. Conyers said. “This too shall pass. My legacy will continue through my children.”

Rep. Conyers had a long and illustrious career in Congress much of it involved in fighting for civil rights.

However there are multiple accusations, and even though Conyers is still denying them, this is undoubtedly the best decision for him to make.

In the meantime Rep. Blake Farenthold says he will pay back the $84,000 of taxpayer money that was used to settle his sexual harassment case, but has no plans to leave Congress.

And that is even after the woman he harassed went on television to say that after the settlement she was blackballed, is now able to find only part time work, and has been reduced to babysitting for extra cash.

Let's also not forget that Roy Moore has now been endorsed by both the GOP and Donald Trump, and that Trump still occupies the White House.

See anything wrong with this picture?

Rep. John Conyers steps aside as the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee amid accusations of sexual harassment.

Courtesy of WaPo:

Rep. John Conyers Jr. (Mich.), the longest-serving member of Congress, stepped aside as the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee amid growing internal pressure as an ethics investigation of sexual harassment allegations against him begins.

Conyers, 88, said he would not resign from Congress and instead would fight the allegations in the hope of reclaiming his spot atop the committee, which oversees federal laws and other legal issues. “I very much look forward to vindicating myself and my family before the House Committee on Ethics,” he wrote Sunday in a letter to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Conyers settled a sexual harassment complaint brought by a former staffer in 2015, leaving her on the payroll as a temporary employee and paying out just under $30,000.

Pelosi issued a statement immediately after Conyers’s announcement: “I particularly take any accusation of sexual harassment very seriously. Any credible accusation must be reviewed by the Ethics Committee expeditiously. We are at a watershed moment on this issue.”

And this is the appropriate response to allegations of sexual misconduct.

However let me just point out that Roy Moore is still the Republican's candidate for the Alabama Senate, and that their president, Donald Trump, continues to reside in the White House.

Currently it appears that only one side of the political divide is taking sexual harassment seriously.

Unfortunately that puts us at a disadvantage, especially if we start freeing up Senate and House seats in response to these charges, while the conservatives jealously cling to theirs and then capture the newly vacated seats as well.

Congressman Conyers to investigate George Bush's "Imperial Presidency".

Rebuffing Dennis Kucinich’s calls for impeachment hearings on George W. Bush, the House Judiciary Committee instead will hear testimony about Bush’s “imperial presidency” and several of his administration’s scandals.

In a press release issued Thursday, Rep. John Conyers, House Judiciary Committee chairman, said his panel will explore a variety of Bush controversies, including manipulation of prewar Iraq intelligence, politicization of the Justice Department, and refusal to cooperate with congressional investigations.

But the Michigan Democrat also left little doubt that the committee’s review was meant to fend off demands from Rep. Kucinich that Conyers initiate impeachment proceedings against Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

With impeachment ruled out, it’s unclear how much the Judiciary Committee’s inquiry can accomplish, given Bush’s broad assertion of executive privilege when his subordinates are faced with congressional questions about criminal and other wrongdoing.

This seems like a weak and pathetic excuse for a full impeachment hearing to me.

There is nothing I would like more then to see this President face the full fury of the Congress concerning his abuse of power, this seems to fall well short of "full fury".

However I am a pragmatist and I am painfully aware that an impeachment right now would certainly fail. It would split the country at a time when we are just now starting to come together and put Obama's Presidential aspirations in jeopardy.

So I am going to wait patiently. But when Obama is our President and we have the 60 percent majority in the House and true control of the Senate, then by God I want a REAL investigation launched and an outcome that insures these bastards will be convicted and punished for their crimes against our country.

I could not agree more.

Just off the House floor today, the Crypt overheard House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers tell two other people: "We're closing in on Rove. Someone's got to kick his ass."

Asked a few minutes later for a more official explanation, Conyers told us that Rove has a week to appear before his committee. If he doesn't, said Conyers, "We'll do what any self-respecting committee would do. We'd hold him in contempt. Either that or go and have him arrested."

I like the first quote much better. It is well past time that "Turdblossom" got a royal reaming.

Rep. John Conyers has his own table, and right in the middle of it sits impeachment.

"Nancy Pelosi has impeachment 'off the table,' but that's off her table, it is not off John Conyers' table," the Michigan Democrat said during a town hall meeting in his district Tuesday. "Nancy Pelosi, who I actually supported, cannot prevent me from introducing an impeachment resolution against, well I've got a long list of people who are eligible."

"I want you to know that I have no reticence, no reluctance, no hesitation to use the tool of impeachment ... whenever I feel that it is appropriate," Conyers said. "I only wish that I could be moved by a lot of people coming to my office."

Did you just feel that? That tingle of excitement that just ran up your back? That is the feeling of the possibility of impending justice.

I hope, with all of my heart, that is a feeling that we start having on a regular basis.
