President Donald Trump on Thursday thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for expelling American diplomats from Russia on the grounds that “we’re going to save a lot of money,” prompting dismay among many of the rank-and-file at the State Department.
“I want to thank him because we’re trying to cut down our payroll, and as far as I’m concerned I’m very thankful that he let go of a large number of people because now we have a smaller payroll,” Trump told reporters at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, according to a pool report.
“There’s no real reason for them to go back,” he added. “I greatly appreciate the fact that we’ve been able to cut our payroll of the United States. We’re going to save a lot of money.”
I watched this yesterday and my jaw just about hit the floor.
Seriously, WTF?
First off these diplomats are not off the payroll, they will simply be assigned to other posts.
And secondly since when does our commander-in-chief thank another world leader for ejecting American diplomats?
As you can imagine this did not go over well with people working in that field:
A senior U.S. diplomat serving overseas called Trump's remarks "outrageous" and said it could lead more State Department staffers to head for the exits.
"This is so incredibly demoralizing and disrespectful to people serving their country in harm's way," the diplomat said.
"I kid you not, I have heard from three different people in the last five minutes," one State Department official told POLITICO shortly after Trump's comments. "Everyone seems pretty amazed. This statement is naive and shortsighted. It sends a terrible signal to local employees everywhere."
"THANK Putin?" another bewildered State Department official responded. "I don't have words that are printable to describe my reaction."
It should be noted that this was yet another opportunity that Trump had to criticize Putin and he refused to take it. Instead he took to Twitter and attacked Mitch McConnell.
This led Joe Scarborough to suggest the following:
“The only person that I certainly can think of that he has never insulted, that he has never attacked is Vladimir Putin, which, again, raises the question, and I will ask it again on TV: What does Vladimir Putin have on Donald Trump?” Scarborough said. “Because whatever it is, it must be extraordinary.”
Yeah, I think at this point this is an unavoidable question.

Joe Scarborough, the conservative co-host of MSNBC’s political commentary show “Morning Joe,” is leaving the Republican Party.
He made the announcement Tuesday night during an appearance on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” alongside his co-host Mika Brzezinski. A two-minute clip of the segment was teased on the program’s Twitter account earlier Tuesday.
Scarborough tore into what he characterized as a complacent Republican Party unwilling to stand up to President Trump.
“You have to ask yourself, what exactly is the Republican Party willing to do?” Scarborough said to Colbert. “How far are they willing to go? How much of this country and our values are they willing to sell out?”
“Aren’t you a Republican?” Colbert asked.
“I am a Republican, but I’m not going to be a Republican anymore,” Scarborough said to loud applause from the audience. “I’ve got to become an independent.”
First off that was a very weak statement for somebody who is supposedly so fed up with his former political party.
Second if he were REALLY fed up he would register as a Democrat, instead of taking the easy way out and calling himself an Independent.
And third it is really too late for this to matter anymore.
From the time that Scarborough started "Morning Joe" in 2007 he has been almost schizophrenic when sharing his political pint of view.
Sometimes he has obviously been carrying water for the GOP, and other times, mostly when it is safe, he has been a vocal critic.
To his credit Scarborough was an early critic of Sarah Palin, and McCain's decision to pluck her from the wilds of Wasilla and deposit her on the national stage, but he was also an early fan of Donald Trump and provided him with a platform from which he later launched his campaign for president.
If Scarborough were really a man of conviction he would have bailed on the GOP after it became clear that his party members covered for Bush's lie that there were WMDs in Iraq.
Once again Scarborough is playing it safe by supposedly leaving the GOP at a time when literally EVERYBODY with any conscience should be leaving the GOP.

The officials say their intelligence indicates Putin thinks he can outmaneuver Trump at the G-20 summit, playing on promises of cooperation on areas like counterterrorism to win concessions like a reduction in the raft of sanctions against Russia.
“When you meet Russia, don’t give anything away for free,” one Western official warned, echoing the fears of many European diplomats ahead of next week’s Trump-Putin meeting on the fringes of the G-20 in Germany.
Their misgivings highlight concern that Trump’s inexperience and Putin’s ability to flatter will slowly degrade the U.S. alliance with Europe over time, and boost Moscow back to near-superpower status while extracting no changes to its aggressive, expansionist behavior.
I think it is blatantly obvious that Trump has been compromised by Putin, and I have no confidence that Trump will even bring up the fact that Russia hacked our election.
I'm just worried that by the end of the meeting Trump will have unconditionally surrendered the country to Putin.
Assuming of course that he has not already done that.

Joe and Mika co-author op-ed in response to Trump tweets.
Here is a sample:President Trump launched personal attacks against us Thursday, but our concerns about his unmoored behavior go far beyond the personal. America’s leaders and allies are asking themselves yet again whether this man is fit to be president. We have our doubts, but we are both certain that the man is not mentally equipped to continue watching our show, “Morning Joe.”
The president’s unhealthy obsession with our show has been in the public record for months, and we are seldom surprised by his posting nasty tweets about us. During the campaign, the Republican nominee called Mika “neurotic” and promised to attack us personally after the campaign ended. This year, top White House staff members warned that the National Enquirer was planning to publish a negative article about us unless we begged the president to have the story spiked. We ignored their desperate pleas.
The president’s unhealthy obsession with “Morning Joe” does not serve the best interests of either his mental state or the country he runs. Despite his constant claims that he no longer watches the show, the president’s closest advisers tell us otherwise. That is unfortunate. We believe it would be better for America and the rest of the world if he would keep his 60-inch-plus flat-screen TV tuned to “Fox & Friends.”
The article goes on to debunk much of what Trump claimed in his tweet.
Including the fact that Mika was bleeding from a recent facelift, which this image had already put to rest yesterday.

As I have said before I am by no means a fan of Morning Joe, and rarely watch anything that they broadcast even on You Tube.
But I have to say that they are certainly doing their part in driving the orange shitgibbon out of what is left of his mind, and that is definitely driving up their likeability in my book.
And they should have no problem keeping it up, since Trump simply cannot stop watching their show and then tweeting about them.

Soulless Sarah Huckabee Sanders takes to the podium to actually defend Donald Trump's indefensible tweets directed at Mika Brzezinski.

During the White House press briefing Thursday afternoon, Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders didn’t apologize on behalf of the president or try to walk back his tweets, which came after Brzezinski criticized him on her show. Instead, Huckabee Sanders defended Trump and portrayed the president and his staff as the real victims.
“The president is pushing back against people who attack him day after day after day. Where is the outrage on that?” Huckabee Sanders said. “The only person that I see a war on is this president and everybody that works for him.”
(By "attack" Sanders means challenging the things Trump says with facts, or talking about his low poll numbers. Which is what Joe and Mika did this morning.)
Later, Huckabee Sanders was asked why Trump decided it would be wise to lash out at all. She said, “I don’t think you can expect someone to be personally attacked day after day, minute by minute and sit back.”
“Look, the American people elected a fighter, they didn’t elect somebody to sit back and do nothing,” she said. “They knew what they were getting when the voted for Donald Trump and he won overwhelmingly.”
(That's fake news by the way. Hillary beat him by just under 3 million votes.)
Huckabee Sanders also claimed Trump’s tweets aren’t beneath the dignity of the office of the president, saying that Trump “shows [dignity] every day in the decisions that he’s making, the focus and the priorities he’s laid out in his agenda, but he’s not going to sit back and be attacked by the liberal media, Hollywood elites, and when they hit him he’s going to hit back.”
(Trump shows dignity every day in the decisions that he's making? When does that happen? If that were not enough Sanders also added this.)
Huckabee Sanders falsely claimed that Trump has “in no way, form, or fashion promoted or encouraged violence.”
That clearly ridiculous statement was aggressively challenge by the Washington Post, which went into great detail pointing out multiple examples of Trump fomenting violence during his campaign rallies, threatening to use violence himself, and even offering to pay the legal fees of those who did use violence on his behalf.
In one of the most bizarre moments from this press conference, somebody asked Sanders if she would tell her children that Trump's behaviors were okay, and she responded by saying that when it comes to role models she "points to God."
To me that was one of the strangest cop outs I have ever witnessed.
In fact this entire press briefing was so far down the rabbit hole that I would not have been even remotely surprised to have witnessed Sanders fielding a question from the Mad Hatter of the Cheshire Cat.

Kellyanne Conway used to say she needed a shower after defending Donald Trump.

The co-hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, claimed on Monday that senior White House adviser Kellyanne Conway used to say she needed a shower after defending Donald Trump on air.
“This is a woman, by the way, who came on our show during the campaign and would shill for Trump in extensive fashion,” Brzezinski said. “And then she would get off the air, the camera would be turned off, the microphone would be taken off and she would say, ‘Blech, I need to take a shower,’ because she disliked her candidate so much.”
“And also said, it was very interesting, also said that, ‘This is just like my summer in Europe,'” Scarborough said.
“I’m just doing this for the money,” Brzezinski interjected.
“‘I’ll be off this soon.’ I don’t know that she ever said ‘I’m doing this for the money,'” Scarborough said. “But she said, ‘This is just my summer vacation, my summer in Europe and basically I’m just going to get through this.'”
“‘But first I have to take a shower because it feels so dirty to be saying what I’m saying.’ I guess she’s just used to it now,” Brzezinski said.
I have no respect for people like this.
Kellyanne knew who Donald Trump was before she agreed to work for him, and she had several reasons to walk since, and yet she remains a good little soldier.
I am completely unable to defend people or policies that I do not believe in, and when people prostitute themselves like this I find it simply disgusting.
Donald Trump is a pig, and every man, and especially woman, who defends him has lowered themselves to an almost subhuman level.
I have NO idea how they live with themselves.

Joe Scarborough's "Amnesty Don" song. Is this what caused Trump to double down with his anti-immigrant rhetoric during his speech last night?

“Morning Joe” namesake Joe Scarborough on Wednesday put out a song called “Amnesty Don” mocking GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. The song makes light of Trump’s self-described “softening” on his primary promise to deport 11 million illegal immigrants.
The song and accompanying lyric video — on Scarborough’s Facebook page — conveniently dropped just hours before Trump is scheduled to meet with Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto in Mexico City. And on Wednesday evening, Trump will further define his immigration policy during a rally in Phoenix.
Okay so like the article says this song started to make the rounds on the internet yesterday morning and continued throughout the day.
It is conceivable that Trump, who was on his way to Mexico earlier may not have heard it until after he met with President Nieto.
Which makes one wonder if THAT might not have triggered Trump into going full KKK rally last night in Arizona.
That is really not such a crazy theory considering how aggressive his Twitter war has been with Scarborough in the past.
Something of which I imagine Vladimir Putin is all too aware.

Donald Trump kept asking foreign policy expert "if we have them, why can't we use them" concerning nuclear weapons.

According to Scarborough, a foreign policy expert who briefed Trump told him that the Republican nominee repeatedly asked him about our country’s reluctance to use nuclear weapons.
“Three times he asked about the use of nuclear weapons,” Scarborough said. “Three times he asked, at one point, ‘If we have them, why can’t we use them?’ That’s one of the reasons he doesn’t have foreign policy experts around.”
Scarborough then asked his guest, former CIA and National Security Agency Director Michael Hayden, about whether there were any ways to stop Trump from ordering a nuclear strike if he were elected president.
“The system is designed for speed and decisiveness,” Hayden replied. “It’s not designed to debate the decision.” If hearing that does not make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up you might want to check your pulse.
In other, possible less troubling, Trump news:
“I did not think he’d be great in a general election, and thought there’d be episodes of paranoia/irrationality, but this is surprising for me,” one Trump operative told The Post.
“Trump is getting nuttier and nuttier,” the person added.
Good, so it appears that the Trump campaign is coming apart at the seams. That should keep him away from the nuclear codes.
There is also a devastating new article from Newsweek, that strips away a lot of Trump's mythology.
Ouch!
In fact in response to the possibility that Trump might simply take his ball and go home, the Republicans are scrambling to find a replacement for him on the ballot.
So all in all it appears that finally everybody is noticing what should have been obvious from the start, Donald Trump should NEVER be allowed any where near the Oval Office.
I am not sure why the Republicans could not figure that out before nominating him, but better late than never I guess.

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough on Monday declared matter-of-factly that “Republicans aren’t going to win the presidency” with Donald Trump as the party’s nominee and the focus should now be on avoiding huge losses for down-ballot Republicans.
“People say if you don't support Donald Trump, then Republicans aren't going to win the presidency. Well, Republicans aren't going to win the presidency,” Scarborough said on “Morning Joe.”
“At this point, and I'm just being a selfish Republican, for me it's about saving the Senate, it’s about not getting wiped out in the House, it’s about not getting wiped out in the state legislatures and governorships,” he continued. “We have a lot to lose.”
Well that is good to hear, and I agree wholeheartedly.
I myself think it is quite likely that the Republicans will lose the Senate and certainly lose a number of seats in the House.
However I also feel that whatever Clinton wants to accomplish in her presidency she better get done during the first four years, because the deck is stacked against her for winning a second term.
That is unless the Republicans allow another human train wreck like Donald Trump to win nomination that is.

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough is really having a hard time with this Donald Trump nomination.

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough on Wednesday said he won't support Donald Trump for president until he proves he's not a bigot.
"Donald, guess what, I'm not going to support you until you get your act together. You're acting like a Bush-league loser, you're acting like a racist, you're acting like a bigot," the host of "Morning Joe" said.
"I have taken the gun away from my head I am putting it on the table and now. It is in your hands on whether you are going to prove to the Republican party and me personally that you're not a bigot," he said.
"Don't use Hillary Clinton as a threat against me, don't use Hillary Clinton as an excuse, as your blank check to say racist things about people born in Indiana," Scarborough added. "No, Donald, you don't get to play it that way, I'm not scared of you, and I'm not scared of the base because they're just as pissed off as me."
Still not a fan but I have to admit that I do enjoy watching these Republican types losing their minds over the fact that their party is so ignorant and awash in racism that it was willing to actually nominate this orange tinted extra from the "Sopranos"

Morning Joe goes off on Donald Trump and the Republicans party for making him their candidate.

On Monday, “Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski asked if Trump’s remarks were racist.
“It’s completely racist,” co-host Joe Scarborough replied. “Here you have a guy that is from Indiana. From Indiana! I think his family, if I’m not mistaken, had been in the country of America longer than Trump’s grandmother.”
Scarborough went on to criticize Republicans who are endorsing Trump, saying it’s wrong for them to denounce Trump’s latest comments while ignoring his call to ban Muslims from entering the United States.
“They can’t be morally outraged this week when they knew what he was doing last week,” Scarborough said.
I NEVER watch Morning Joe anymore, but I have to admit it really tickles me when I see Scarborough losing his shit while being confronted with what the Republican party has become.
I remember having the same sense of vindication while watching him respond to the news that McCain had chosen Sarah Palin as his running mate back in 2008.
As it turns out Scarborough is far from the only Republican suffering buyer's remorse over Donald Trump:

Well okay then.

Joe Scarborough: "Ted Cruz will never be the nominee of the Republican Party."

Joe Scarborough mocked Ted Cruz’s claim that he defied the media by winning Wisconsin — which most media observers predicted he would do — and insisted the Texas senator would never win the Republican presidential nomination.
“Listen, let’s just be clear here,” Scarborough said. “Ted Cruz will never be the nominee of the Republican Party.”
Scarborough insisted that Cruz was not the second-most likely nominee behind Trump, and said the GOP was far more likely to select a nominee who’s not even running at this point.
“No, not even close,” he said. “Paul Ryan — you name the list. The guy is loathed, and he is loathed inside (Washington,) D.C., in a way that Donald Trump is not loathed. I know a lot of the establishment hates Donald Trump, but Ted Cruz is the devil that they know, and they don’t like him. He’s not going to win the nomination.”
Scarborough said the GOP establishment was simply using Cruz as a “vehicle to stop Donald Trump.”
“It’s going to be Trump or somebody else,” he said. “I don’t know — maybe Ted Cruz is the most wonderful human being in the world when he’s in the backyard throwing baseballs with, you know, his next-door neighbors and barbecuing, I’m sure he is. He is not, though, on TV, a likable persona, and he is loathed in Washington. He is not going to do it. It’s going to be Trump or somebody else.”
You know even three or four weeks ago I would have agreed with Scarborough on this.
But now I just don't know.
What I do know is that I need more popcorn.

The Morning Joe panel attempts to understand just what Sarah Palin was babbling about in Wisconsin.

The Morning Joe crew were visibly horrified at Sarah Palin’s speech for Donald Trump last Friday night, when she spoke on behalf of the Donald at the Milwaukee County GOP’s fundraising dinner.
The speech came as Wisconsin is turning into the Republican establishment’s major stand against Trump, with Gov. Scott Walker endorsing Ted Cruz, as well as the state’s right-wing talk radio hosts speaking out vociferously against Trump.
And in that environment, Palin and her usual “word salad” (as Joe and company referred to it) didn’t get their usual cheering crowd. Instead, it was just the half-term governor, a microphone — and crushing silence.
“Can I ask you,” Joe Scarborough asked of John Heilemann, who had actually been there for the event, “halfway through her speech did you ask if you had stumbled into some bad acid?”
Heilemann responded: “Well the question was, ‘Who has taken the bad acid?'”
Actually I think that if the audience had been on acid this speech might well have made perfect sense.
After covering this speech, and the one that came after it, I really thought I would be done talking about it. However watching this panel of pundits attempting to wrap their minds around what they were seeing was just too good not to share.

Joe Scarborough refuses to allow Donald Trump to bloviate, instead cuts him off and goes to commercial.

After Mr. Trump repeatedly interrupted questions about his plan to ban Muslim immigration from the co-host Mika Brzezinski, Mr. Scarborough scolded Mr. Trump for not allowing the hosts to ask the candidate questions and, finally, threatened to send the program into a commercial break if Mr. Trump did not stop speaking.
“Go to break, go to break right now,” Mr. Scarbourough eventually demanded.
When Mr. Trump kept talking, Mr. Scarborough interrupted him: “Hold on, Donald. You got to let us ask questions. You can’t just talk.”
Mr. Trump kept talking anyway. “I’m not just talking,” he said.
As the exchange intensified, a clearly displeased Mr. Scarborough repeatedly tried to stop Mr. Trump from speaking over him.
“Go to break, then, Joe,” Mr. Trump said, tauntingly.
So Mr. Scarborough did. The segment abruptly ended.
After the break Donald Trump remained on the phone and was much calmer and more compliant, which goes to show that he really needs somebody to stand up to him once in awhile. And as much as I dislike Scarborough he DID show more backbone than most of the people who interview Donald Trump.
I usually do not watch Morning Joe, but MSNBC has been rerunning this exchange all day so it made it hard to miss it.
And I'm glad I did watch it because simply put it was mesmerizing TV.
Even though he was much less vitriolic for the remainder of the interview Trump still said some truly crazy things, which included having people stopped at the border and asked about their religious beliefs before allowing them into the country, and rejecting any who self identify as Muslim.
I have NO idea how Trump thinks something like that could be carried out, but I DO know that it is absolutely unconstitutional.

Joe Scarborough calls Sarah Palin's speech at the Freedom Summit a "tragedy."

Scarborough made his remarks after Washington Examiner columnist Byron York panned the former Alaska governor's "long and disjointed" address. That led Nicolle Wallace, the former Palin aide who has long since been one of her biggest detractors, to recall that York was once one of her "staunchest supporters."
“I think it’s a tragedy, too,” Scarborough chimed in. “We all remember that night she spoke in 2008 at the [Republican national] convention. I will say, it remains one of the most electrifying performances I’ve seen in the last four or five conventions I’ve been to. Nobody expected her to do well. She delivered the lines well; she hit it out of the park."
"We will let history decide how she got from that point to this point,” Scarborough said.
Actually the answer to how Palin got from the 2008 national convention point to the point she is at today, is that the 2008 point never really existed.
In other words the ONLY reason that Palin came off so well was that she had people controlling everything she wore and everything she did.
On her own Palin has always been the broken down heap that we see today, however for a brief time she had people applying a coat of new paint and tightening her spark plugs to keep her running seemingly smooth.
It was never real.
What people are seeing today is the REAL Sarah Palin without, as Nicolle Wallace pointed out, those "annoying handlers."
For all of you who recognized this way back in 2008, I think it is time to give yourselves a well deserved pat on the back. Remember the rest of the country is simply coming to the same place where we have been standing all along.

Well it looks like the Palin attempts to play the victim have had the desired effect.

Reliable Sources host Brian Stelter, who’s taken up the mantle as CNN’s unofficial ombudsman, said that fellow anchor Carol Costello deserved the widespread criticism she received last week for laughing at audio of Bristol Palin describing a drunken brawl.
“If you’re sitting at home shaking your head at the way she handled that, you’re not alone,” Stelter said.
Actually if you are sitting at home shaking your head it is only because you actually believe that Bristol Palin's version of what happened to her that night bears even a passing resemblance to the truth. Which it does not.
The problem with the media is that they STILL seem to think that the Palins are capable of telling the truth, and the fact is that they are absolutely NOT able to do that. About anything.
But that point seems to be lost on some in the media. Including Joe Concha of Mediaite who said the following:
So should Costello–a straight news anchor and not an opinion host–apologize on the air Monday morning? Yes. Note: She has only done so in a statement to Politico, which hasn’t silenced her critics.
But will she? Yes…because she has no other choice.
Why? Because it’s the only way to defuse the controversy swirling around her.
A controversy it must be remembered that was created by the same Right Wing media that sprang to Palin's defense after David Letterman made a fairly innocuous joke about Bristol, suggested that I should be sued after my Splitsville post, and dug a conservative media moat to protect her after her blood libel statements following the attempted murder of Gabby Giffords.
And while I am on this topic I want to bring up the fact that The Daily Caller's Matt Lewis, who you briefly saw in that Morning Joe clip, completely manufactured the allegation that Bristol Palin might have possibly been sexually assaulted by Kory Klingenmeyer out of whole cloth.
There is NO allegation of that from any witness, nor even from the Palin clan, though honestly it is probably because they did not think of it themselves.
The scuffle between Klingenmeyer and Bristol happened in front of dozens of people, and not one of them even backed up the fact that Bristol was physically assaulted by the homeowner, much less sexually assaulted by him.
And yet that same charge has been repeated in comment sections of blogs and news sites all over the internet.
Carol Costello is certainly not deserving of the vitriol that is currently directed her way, but Matt Lewis deserves all of that and more. Much more.
