Lewis Black identifies when he first realized that his days as a comedian were coming to an end.

"We are living in fictional times."

Damn, if only that were true.

But I totally get what he is saying.

I have seen a number of late night comics struggle with the same conundrum.

This entire presidency is like one long, poorly written SNL skit.

Except in this skit the objects of ridicule are the audience members who allowed this show to go on in the first place.

Just another reminder of how far down the rabbit hole we have fallen.

Courtesy of US Uncut:

Idiocracy has been a long-cherished sci-fi satire in cult circles, telling the tale of two people who wake up from a cryogenic sleep to find that the country has become a wasteland of anti-intellectualism.

Now, ten years later, the co-writer of the cult comedy classic, Etan Cohen, thinks that the movie is satire no longer, marveling that his movie has gone from fiction to non-fiction. On Twitter today, Cohen used his movie to perfectly sum up our current political climate.
Speaking with The Hill, he quipped that “I thought the worst thing that would come was everyone wearing Crocs.” Cohen’s jokes come from a place of disenchanted exhaustion. Many voters are sharing in this exhaustion during an election season where a reality show host who gloated recently “I love the poorly educated!” is a frontrunner for President of the United States of America.

I have only watched this movie once because I thought it was a little too stupid, and unbelievable. But now I'm actually afraid to watch and see how accurately it reflects our current reality.

I swear the next person who says "Americans are smart" in my vicinity is going to get punched in the nose.

Writing Sarah Palin satire is an exercise in futility, since she is essentially a walking talking parody of herself already.

Okay I feel like I need to address this since it is now getting a little out of hand.

The Daily Currant wrote a piece in which they attribute these words to Sarah Palin:

“If I were Obama I’d put all 11 million of these folks on boats and send them back to Mexico,” she opined. “The liberal media says it’s impossible to deport that many people. But I say we can do it if we have enough ships.

“Let’s commandeer all the cruise ships, all the fishing vessels and all the yachts those fat cat Obama donors own. And then let’s pack ‘em full of illegals and send these people on a one-way cruise to Mexico City.

“The long voyage back across the Mexican Ocean should give them plenty of time to think about how they shouldn’t be coming here to America and jeopardizing our freedom and prosperity by breaking our laws.”

Now the Daily Currant suggests that she said this during a Fox interview, so  right off the bat most of you should know that is impossible since we tend to cover those interviews here at IM. And let's face it, we would have been all over that if it were true.

Secondly you should always be a little skeptical when you think "You know that's even too crazy for her." Because chances are that yes it is probably too crazy for her.

And third by now you should all know that there are sites like the Daily Currant and the Onion out there that brilliantly make up these stories for our entertainment, and that they should NOT be taken seriously.

In fact here is a list that you can refer to in the future to keep from being fooled again.

Now before any of you start to feel embarrassed that you were suckered let me assure you that it has happened to me before as well. And there are plenty of news outlets, like Fox and Breitbart, that still get punked with some frequency.

For this one in particular I received at least a dozen e-mails and comments excitedly pointing to the article. And that includes one from my daughter last night, which simply said "Did you hear what Sarah Palin said yesterday?"

Of course that could have been anything, but it turned out to be this article which all of her friends were buzzing about.

And that's really the point right? Getting buzz and fishing for clicks.

However it makes what I do all the more challenging. Because when I dig up an actual crazy fact about Sarah Palin it is immediately in competition for attention with all of these fake crazy "facts" about Sarah Palin.

So let's do us all a favor and try to double check sources before sharing some of this stuff on Facebook Twitter, or here at IM.

Let me end this by thanking you for your support, and the many legitimate links that you DO send my direction. It makes this job a whole lot easier as I certainly don't have enough time to scour the internet effectively on my own.

Well there is one group who will relish the election of Joni Ernst to the Senate, comedians.

Courtesy of Ria Novosti:

The winner of Tuesday’s Iowa Senate Race, Republican Joni Ernst will be featured regularly in political comedy shows because of her extreme beliefs, a political strategist told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

“Joni Ernst has said some things that are on the fringe of American politics - which the press hasn’t covered very well. She referred to [US President Barack] Obama as a dictator. Not to mention she’s into all kinds of weird conspiracy theories. She’ll definitely make good fodder for Jon Stewart for the next six years,” Iowa-based political consultant Pete D'Alessandro said.

D'Alessandro, who has also worked on a number of election campaigns, also pointed to some alarming statements Ernst made regarding gun ownership, including the one in which she stated that she would need a gun to defend herself against the government.

“I would say she’s a less intelligent Sarah Palin [Former Alaska Governor]. Sarah Palin is actually smarter, politically,” the strategist claimed.

Wow, dumber than Sarah Palin. Is there any worse allegation than that for a politician?

I agree that Ernst is going to attract a lot of attention from comedians and satirists.

I can already visualize the SNL skit based on her acceptance speech, where she brayed like a donkey the entire time.

As for being dumber than Palin, I will have to see a little more evidence before I am willing to hand the Queen of Stupidity crown over to Ernst. Maybe if her family got shitfaced and attacked an innocent homeowner I might consider it.

Poland grants church of the Flying Spaghetti monster the right to register as a religion. So that just happened.

Courtesy of The Independent:

A church that worships an invisible flying spaghetti monster can now apply to be registered as an official religion in Poland, after a 2013 court ruling was overturned on Tuesday.

A Warsaw court rejected a ruling by the Regional Administrative Court because the it had not allowed the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) a two-month extension for submitting outstanding documents, Polskie Radio has reported.

A group of Pastafarians who gathered outside the court shouting "pasta" during the hearing on Tuesday welcomed the ruling.

In January, Pastafarian minister Christopher Schaeffer was sworn into the Pomfret New York Town Council this week with a colander on his head throughout the ceremony to represent his unique religious beliefs.

Am I the only one that predicts a new onslaught of Polish jokes in response to this, or we have we moved on from that kind of thing?

Starts off as a joke, and then becomes an established house of worship.

Pretty sure that's how Christianity started as well.

For those who are still in the dark you can learn more about the FSM at their website.

And while you're there do yourself a favor and read the about page.

Satanic group unveils concept for proposed monument to be placed in Oklahoma state capitol. Should blend right in with the Ten Commandments monument.

Courtesy of Philly.com:

Will Satan be celebrated on the lawn of the Oklahoma State Capitol?

A devilish group based in New York believes it should be perfectly OK.

The group, which calls itself "The Satanic Temple," today unveiled its proposal for a monument it intends to erect next to another religious statue: a depiction of the Ten Commandments.

According to The Satanic Temple's application, the proposed monument features a large pentagram and “a 7-foot tall goat-headed Baphomet that sits cross-legged flanked by a child on both sides. The lap will serve as a seat for visitors.”

It would also include quotes from poets William Blake and Lord Byron.

The monument, said the group’s spokesman, was designed to reflect the views of Satanists in Oklahoma City and could doubly serve as a tourist attraction.

“The statue will serve as a beacon calling for compassion and empathy among all living creatures,” said spokesman Lucian Greaves. “The statue will also have a functional purpose as a chair where people of all ages may sit on the lap of Satan for inspiration and contemplation.”

Oklahoma state legislators in 2009 approved the installation of a privately-funded Ten Commandments monument. It was installed last year over the protests of the local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. The Satanic Temple wasn’t the only group to apply for a monument; People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the satirical Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and a Hindu group have also requested a place near the Capitol steps.

It will be interesting to see how Oklahoma lawmakers respond to this attempt to take advantage of the door opened by State Rep. Mike Ritze back in 2009.

Will they cry uncle and take down this Judeo-Christian monument?

Will they try to implement religious favoritism concerning monuments at the capitol?

Or will they allow a giant goat headed Satanic statue to share space with numerous other religious monuments, turning the Capitol into a kid of one stop shop for religious diversity?

Should be interesting to watch this whole thing play out.

P.S. By the way there is some evidence to suggest that this whole "Satanic Temple" is really a tongue in check group of satirists. Still if Oklahoma is going to allow one former cult that people orginally ridiculed to place a monument at their capitol, kind of hard to draw the line at any other.

Don'tcha think?

Perhaps some of the funniest television you will EVER see.

This is from a recent episode of the British satirical comedy 10 O'Clock Live. (Just imagine the Daily Show if everybody sounded like John Oliver.)

It is absolutely hysterical, so I thought I would share it with all of you just for a change of pace.

Be warned, there is very little censorship, and so you may hear some very colorful language. Though in my opinion filthy language always sounds so much more acceptable with an English accent.

Enjoy.

The opening of SNL was pretty funny last night.

I have not posted about the Tiger Woods kerfuffle because.....well I don't give a crap. However I have to agree with the point made by this segment.

Going Rogue creates sanitation crisis.

Did selfish Sarah ever take into consideration the horrible impact her "book" would have on "Joe the Plumber"? Or poor "Joe the Sanitation Worker"? Or "Joe the little boy's mom"? I think not!
