McGavin, 83, died Saturday of natural causes at a Los Angeles-area hospital with his family at his side, said his son Bogart McGavin.Besides his brilliant work in "A Christmas Story", my favorite McGavin acting job was as Karl Kolchak in the television series "The Night Stalker". I loved his rumpled, single minded, intrepid reporter who was constantly bumping into otherwordly phenomena that only he believed to exist.
