The Respect MP George Galloway has said it would be morally justified for a suicide bomber to murder Tony Blair.
In an interview with GQ magazine, the reporter asked him: "Would the assassination of, say, Tony Blair by a suicide bomber - if there were no other casualties - be justified as revenge for the war on Iraq?"
Mr Galloway replied: "Yes, it would be morally justified. I am not calling for it - but if it happened it would be of a wholly different moral order to the events of 7/7. It would be entirely logical and explicable. And morally equivalent to ordering the deaths of thousands of innocent people in Iraq - as Blair did."
You know I loved this guy when he gave it to the Senate with both barrels in 2005, but what he is saying is too far out on the fringe for most of us to stand comfortably.
You know I flat despise George W. Bush. I dislike him more then just about any human being on this planet. But having said that, I would never support anybody who suggested that assassinating him would be a good idea. As a matter of fact, if harm befell him I would feel badly for his family and for our country.
I understand Galloway's point that in the eyes of the Iraqi's the death of either of these men might seem to be a moral response to this immoral war. But I just cannot agree with that sentiment. Killing to stop killing is too much of a circular argument for me.
However prison time is certainly something that I could advocate with a clear conscience.
LOCK'EM UP!
Man Dear,
ReplyDeleteDo you not think what was said by GG is a small part of a lot more?
The US has in the past killed elected heads of state when they didn't like them.
In light of this, why can't someone desperate in Iraq have such thoughts?
Good Blog - at least you have it out there.
