This is what Cardinal Paul Poupard, head of the Pontifical Council for Culture had to say today:
"This is a shocking and worrying cultural phenomenon that reflects, on the one hand, the ignorance of millions of people and, on the other, the voluptuous pleasure the media take in promoting products that have nothing to do with the truth," the French-born cardinal, 75, told the Paris radio station.
"If a product that mixes up claims made as fact, fiction and so on, and comes out with elucubrations that have no relation to history, the whole world's media promote it," he said.
I cannot believe that we are getting this kind of straight talk from a Cardinal of the Catholic Church! It is so refreshing and brave of him to address the religious fabrication that has for so long held the world in its sway. So finally this religious leader is calling the Bible what it truly is, "a product that mixes up claims made as fact, fiction and so on, and comes out with elucubrations that have no relation to history", I mean this is huge!
What? Not the Bible? The code? Oh, "The DaVinci Code" is what the Cardinal is talking about?
Well hell. Whatever. I guess I will just sit here in and sip from this steaming cup of irony. I knew it was too good to be true.
