Couric will not be going to Middle East.

Katie Couric, who takes over the CBS Evening News in September told Access Hollywood that at this point, she would not venture into the Middle East hot spot.

"I think the situation there is so dangerous, and as a single parent with two children, that's something I won't be doing," Katie said.

I am not a big fan of Katie Couric by any measure but I do respect her decision to stay with her children. That is her most important responsibility and in my opinion when you are a parent, especially a single parent, you have no right to risk your life unnecessarily.

I think that many of these big time anchors go over to these hotspots to satisfy their need for adrenaline and to prove that they are not just "talking heads".

I applaud Katie for not allowing herself to be pressured into going.
