Is America pulling Israel's strings and directing their attack on Lebanon?

Israel, with U.S. support, intends to resist calls for a cease-fire and continue a longer-term strategy of punishing Hezbollah, which is likely to include several weeks of precision bombing in Lebanon, according to senior Israeli and U.S. officials.

For Israel, the goal is to eliminate Hezbollah as a security threat -- or altogether, the sources said. A senior Israeli official confirmed that Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah is a target, on the calculation that the Shiite movement would be far less dynamic without him.

For the United States, the broader goal is to strangle the axis of Hezbollah, Hamas, Syria and Iran, which the Bush administration believes is pooling resources to change the strategic playing field in the Middle East, U.S. officials say.

I have written about the possibility of America using Israel to spearhead a conflict in the Middle East before. The idea would be for Israel to start some shit and then for the US to "rescue" our good friends when they get in over their heads. In that way George Bush cannot be held accountable for starting World War 3.

But this is just another example of how incredibly clumsy this administration has become. The fact that they stand alone in their support of Israel's attacks on Lebanon is clear evidence that they are behind the scenes and manipulating Israel into starting a conflict designed to destroy peace in the Middle East.

This is the war that Bill Krystal and the neo-cons have been itching for. They are going to start the Crusades in the 21st century. Make no mistake, this is a religious war. And Israel is an idiot for going along with it because the plan does not call for Israel to achieve victory. The plan is for the Jesus to return and lay claim to the smoldering shell that will remains of our planet.

This is a plan for Christian victory in the afterlife. In this life there are to be no survivors.

You overlook the fact that two Israeli soldiers were taken hostage. What was Israel supposed to do about that - nothing? Beg for their return?

If America would respond with a swift and disproportionate response like this when someone takes a swipe at us, we would have far less of this to tolerate!
