Reverend Ted admits in private to sexual misconduct. His church throws his ass out. Christian love is beautiful to behold.

Ted Haggard, the beleaguered pastor of one of the nation's most influential evangelical churches, was fired Saturday after admitting "sexually immoral conduct."

Haggard's New Life Church issued a statement saying he had been removed. But the church's oversight board, which was investigating accusations Haggard had sex with a gay prostitute and used methamphetamine, offered no details of its findings.

Haggard had denied publicly that he ever had gay sex, saying he had been faithful to his wife. As late as Friday morning, he continued to publicly deny sex with his accuser.

But a member of the four-member oversight board said in an interview Saturday night that Haggard admitted Thursday to sexual misconduct.

I honestly feel very bad for Ted Haggard's family. He gave that interview from his car with his wife and kids sitting all around him, as he discussed whether he had gay sex or not or took illegal drugs. It demonstrated an incredible lack of compassion for his family and it just showed this man to be horribly self involved and deceitful. But his family did not deserve to have to sit through that on national television. And for them I do feel very bad.

I also cannot help wondering just how many religious people are living lives of quiet desperation as they try to pray away their so called "unChristian" feelings. It is one thing to look to God for salvation for past sins, it is quite another to expect your biological inclination can be dealt with by repressing them and pretending that they do not exist.
