Okay this is the last one I am going to post, even though I absolutely loved the "New Rules'. If you want to see them and the rest of the show I encourage you to do so.
The reason I posted this much of the show is because I thought that Mos Def was saying what a lot of people are thinking privately. He said in a public forum the kinds of things that many of us are too timid to say out loud to our co-workers, or friends, or even on our own blogs.
I made a choice awhile ago to say that I find a lot of things about 9-11 and the "War on Terror" to appear utterly false. I don't believe huge chunks of information that many people just accept as fact. Now I did not come to this conclusion on a whim, I spent hours, and days, and even weeks poring over videos and reading websites, both disputing and defending the official stories. Only then did I feel that to be genuinely honest intellectually I could not pretend that I was in agreement on the governments account of what happened on 9-11 and the reason for going into Afghanistan and Iraq.
When I first posted my doubts there was a thundering silence. No comments appeared after the posts. No e-mails arrived to support or argue with my opinion. It was as if I had told some terrible secret about myself and nobody knew how to respond.
But then I started to get a few private e-mails. They said that they had been watching the "conspiracy" videos and going back over the chronology and having their own doubts. Every one of the responses that I received in my e-mail account agreed with my skepticism. But they did not know what to do with their doubts. They felt isolated by their beliefs. I certainly understood that feeling.
So when I saw Mos Def talking so openly about his skepticism last night I really responded to him. Just like I did when Rosie O'Donnell spoke out (and she was way ahead of me on this issue), and Charlie Sheen, and a few others. Now I don't agree with Mos about everything (the faked moon landing and Bigfoot for example), but I did respond to his feeling that we are being lied to every day by the people who we trusted enough to allow to run our country.
And I wanted any of you who harbor those same deep, hurtful doubts of your own, to know that you are not alone. You are not alone at all. If you visit any non political website that posts a news story about Bin Laden, or al-Qaeda, or 9-11, and then go to the comments section you will be amazed at how many people are just as skeptical and full of doubts as you are.
thanks for saying that....I think for me....there were turning Points...
ReplyDelete(1) watching the 911 Hearings and how easily everyone lied- that was scary....disturbing...
(2) reading the 911 report and realizing there are Holes in it- you can walk through ....HUGE holes..
(3) and then watching HOW they lied about Iraq- again with Ease...
(4) and yes, YouYube sealed it for me...hours and hours of watching amatuer videos...and listening to people's accounts....there is too much that does not make sense....
thank you for saying it was okay to question and doubt....
actually the thing I have to correct...really the thing that really let me know they would lie about 1000;s of deathes...was Katrina....that once and for all let me know that they would and could LIE about Anything....even when corpses are on the streets...
ReplyDeleteYou know what I have discovered is that there are a whole bunch of us who have reached many of the same conclusions, and we just sit around isolated by this heavy burden of knowledge that we are afraid to give voice to.
ReplyDeleteBut the only way to break free of this crushing weight is to talk to each other.
