For the bruised and bitter staff around Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, Tuesday's death-defying victories in the Democratic presidential primaries in Ohio and Texas proved sweet indeed. They savored their wins yesterday, plotted their next steps and indulged in a moment of optimism. "She won't be stopped," one aide crowed.
And then Clinton's advisers turned to their other goal: denying Mark Penn credit.
With a flurry of phone calls and e-mail messages that began before polls closed, campaign officials made clear to friends, colleagues and reporters that they did not view the wins as validation for the candidate's chief strategist. "A lot of people would still like to see him go," a senior adviser said.
The depth of hostility toward Penn even in a time of triumph illustrates the combustible environment within the Clinton campaign, an operation where internal strife and warring camps have undercut a candidate once seemingly destined for the Democratic nomination. Clinton now faces the challenge of exploiting this moment of opportunity while at the same time deciding whether the squabbling at her Arlington headquarters has become a distraction that requires her intervention.
In my opinion this is the kind of campaign that springs up around a combative personality.
This is the kind of White House Hillary she would run, and the kind of country she would inspire.
By the way has anybody noticed that Hillary did not actually win Texas?
"She won't stop." Kind of like the terminator. Should we call her the clintonator...or something?
ReplyDeleteNow, she and her Clintonborg collective are comparing Obama to Ken Starr. Interesting, since I do not recall Ken Starr releasing his tax returns to the public.
Poor little persecuted Hillary Clinton. You can go on the attack with your thinly-veiled racist speech, but no one is allowed to question your politics.
I find it a little unnerving that she keeps expecting political clout from her years as a first lady. I agree with whomever wrote that she tries to come off as an Eleanor Roosevelt, but is actually more of a Ladybird Johnson. How can she claim those eight years as substantive experience?

The thing that really pisses me off is that she is trying desperately to get Obama to get down in the mud with her so she can say they are both fighting dirty.
ReplyDeleteAnd the MSM is saying that if Obama does not "fight back" he will have no chance of getting the nomination.
This is bullshit! Obama is doing as well as he is because he WON'T fight dirty.
"Hope" does not kick mud on your shoes. Hope lifts you up so that you remain untouched by the ugliness of the world.
I love that last sentence of the Comment above....wonderful truth...
ReplyDeleteI took 24 hours off- and it only got worse- unreal....
I love what you said about hope too, Gryphen.
ReplyDeleteI really think we can tell something about a candidate by the way they run their campaign.
Sorry about Ohio, enigma. I know you and other Obama supporters there tried. Thank you for that! In the end, she only gained 19 delegates on him between the three states she won, and maybe less by the time they are done counting the caucus votes in Texas. I am still hopeful despite Hillary's mudslinging.
Her garbage is getting depressing...
Jackie-thanks We did try here- really hard...I think there was some parts of the state that were stronger than others...but he did gain quite a few points compared to what had originally been perdicted...but thanks....
