I admire the passion that the African American community feels toward Barack, and I am right there with them, but they may need to keep in mind that there are some kinds of support that may simply scare the hell out of the average white voter.
Remember that Obama has gone way out of his way to make himself appear to be a non-threatening biracial man. From his simple black suits to his careful speechcraft, Obama has defined himself as a positive candidate who can give us hope and open the door of possibilities to ALL people. Whether you are African American, Caucasian, Asian, Hispanic, Native American, or some mixture of each, Obama represents you.
In other words Barack is less 5o Cent and more the Fresh Prince, he is accessible to everybody, not just those who happen to look like him.
Now personally I kind of like the song, and I am not usually a huge fan of rap, but you just know this is going to turn up on FOX News, Rush Limbaugh, and a hundred other Right Wing media outlets who are going to use it to illustrate that Obama wants to give America over to the African American community and that this is the end of the white dominance in this country. The black community will love it but the white community will freak the hell out.
So Ludicris, buddy, could you perhaps hold off any more supportive rap songs until AFTER Obama is President? I even promise to buy your album when it comes out. Because I am sorry to say, you are just not helping here.
Obama's camp has already condemned it.
I am a white conservative from Idaho. Barack won in the primaries in Idaho by the way. When I saw Barack speak at the Democratic Presidential Convention, I was so impressed with him that I sent him $100.00 as I wanted to learn more about him. At that time, the color of his skin was not a factor in spiking my interest and to this day it would not be were it not for people like Ludicris, Barack's minister, Rev. Write and all the others who cannot see past the color of my skin. My white relations came to the United States as indentured servants, their children were farmed out to work for quakers, my father was a carpenter/contractor, my mother a nurse. My husband died when my children were one and three years old and I raised them, put myself through college, have put one daughter through college and still have my son to send through college. I am a nurse who works long hours, I am in debt with parent loans. I assume I will keep working until I no longer can which will probably be the day I die. I love my country, I am a defender of the Constitution of the United States of America. I don't want to vote for a "Citizen of the World", I want to vote for a Man or Woman who believes in Freedom and individual responsibility. I want to vote for someone who will defend the values that make it possible for me to work and raise my children, someone who will stand America when needed. I want freedom for all. You are right. Ludicris freaks the hell out of me.
ReplyDeleteI'm just upset that Obama keeps having to condemn everything that people say about him...
ReplyDeleteWell just like you cannot hold McCain responsible for the racists that are undoubtedly supporting him because they cannot abide the idea of a black man in the White House, we also cannot allow Obama to be brought down by those who harbor barely concealed anger at the white man.
ReplyDeleteThe feelings of Ludicris and many other African Americans are valid, but if they help the Right Wing define this thing as a white vs black thing Obama is dead in the water.
Once Obama gets elected, just his mere presence in that highest of offices will bring more justice and understanding for his people. And don't forget "his people" are both black and white. He really can bring us together.
So Ludicris STFU and let him do it.
I am a conservative American. Barack Obama can NOT bring this country together anymore than any other president ever has. It scares me that the closest of his friends and colleagues are American HATERS / terrorists and Fascists. What does that Truly say about him? I have NO problem voting for a Black person to be president, nor do I have a problem voting for a Mexican or a female, but they need to at least represent what America stands for. They need to uphold morals and values that founded this nation. Obama does not, will not and the only change people will see is the amount of money missing from their paychecks due to increased taxes. So please pay attention before you jump on the "celebrity" band wagon.
ReplyDeleteOh but I have been paying attention.
ReplyDeleteThat is how I saw through your transparent protestations that were not a "racist" and noticed how you couched your argument in the veil of "Obama is an anti-American" rhetoric. The idea being I guess that if you want to fix the damage done to this country by George Bush and the Republicans then you must be anti-American (read not white and possibly a Muslim extremist).
And as for that old "raising taxes argument"? Well my friend that is what the Republicans fall back on every time they run out of other issues to ding the Democrats on. It actually makes me very happy to see them using this moldy oldy since it means they are running scared.
And by the way I was an Obama supporter BEFORE it became all glamorous and the in thing to be.
Thanks for playing.
Somebody should tell these anonytards that when they start off by bragging about being "conservative", it's a real good indicator that what they're about to say is going to be a bunch of irrelevant nonsense drivel and parroted media memes.
ReplyDeleteBullshit.
ReplyDeleteHillary is a bitch and she is irrelevant. Because Sean "I defend white supremacists" Hannity doesn't dig matters about as much as whether you use 8 inches or 12 inches of dental floss.
As far as Obama condemning it, he's playing good cop, bad cop. Trust me on this. The "O" man and Ludicris are buds and they're tight.
