If you think the ads for the Presidential race are tough, they have nothing on the Minnesota Senate race.

Okay the race for the Senate in Minnesota is between Republican incumbent Norm Coleman, and Democratic newcomer Al Franken, of Saturday Night Live and Air America fame.

So the Democrats produce this very effective ad here:

And the Coleman campaign came back with this one:

OUCH!!

That thing is absolutely brutal!

And this is really the problem with somebody who has been filmed and recorded for the last thirty years. There is a lot of soundbites available that, when taken out of context, can look very, very bad.

I know that Al Franken is a brilliant, passionate man who would be a great asset to the Senate. And hell his Senate floor speeches would probably be pretty entertaining too.

But when you have written books like "Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot and other observations" and "The lies and the lying liars who tell them: A fair and balanced look at the Right", you have to expect to have made a lot of enemies who are going to pull out the stops to punish you for pointing out their duplicity and lack of ethics. And Franken has made a boatload.

I hope that Al Franken somehow bounces back from this, and my heart goes out to him.

Keep up the good fight Al, I really think America needs you in the Senate.

  1. I love Al Franken but yeah, that's a lot of soundbyte power to overcome.

I totally agree with Al. He didn't do this while he was an elected official. He's not going to lose votes for this , he might actually gain some. Wasn't it Dick Cheney who told Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy to go fuck himself.
Go Al and beat this scumbag

I do like this site Gryphen even though it takes a bit too long to load. I live here in Anchorage and you seem to be on top of things and aren't afraid to bring in the news and the rumors. Keep up the good work

I'm sure these GOP goons can swear with the best of them...

  5. Not sure any "real" person who lives a real life will be offended in anyway by Al's earthy language. Who doesn't hear stuff like this everyday? It makes Coleman look like he has a stick up his butt when he runs something like that. I think most Minnesotans will just laugh and think he's a prude.
