ADN editor responds to Sarah Palin's most recent paranoid rant.

On Dec. 31, eight days ago, I received an email from Gov. Palin asking several questions about news coverage in the Daily News. I took her inquiry seriously and by the end of the day had prepared a long email addressing each of her questions in detail.

This was her final question:

And is your paper really still pursuing the sensational lie that I am not Trig's mother? Is it true you have a reporter still bothering my state office, my very busy doctor (who's already set the record straight for you), and the school district, in pursuit of your ridiculous conspiracy?”

This was my reply:

Yes, it's true.

You may have been too busy with the campaign to notice, but the Daily News has, from the beginning, dismissed the conspiracy theories about Trig's birth as nonsense. I don't believe we have ever published in the newspaper a story, a letter, a column or anything alleging a coverup surrounding your maternity.

In fact, my integrity and the integrity of the newspaper have been repeatedly attacked in national forums for our complicity in the "coverup." I have personally received more than a 100 emails accusing me and the paper of conspiring to hide the truth (about Trig’s birth.)

(I should acknowledge, however, that many people who commented on adn.com have alleged a coverup. Many of those were deleted as soon as we saw them, but many were not.)

I want to be very clear on this: I have from the beginning and do now consider the conspiracy theories about Trig's birth to be nutty nonsense.

If that's true, why has Lisa Demer been asking questions about Trig's birth?

Because we have been amazed by the widespread and enduring quality of these rumors. I finally decided, after watching this go on unabated for months, to let a reporter try to do a story about the "conspiracy theory that would not die" and, possibly, report the facts of Trig's birth thoroughly enough to kill the nonsense once and for all.

Lisa Demer started reporting. She received very little cooperation in her efforts from the parties who, in my judgment, stood to benefit most from the story, namely you and your family. Even so, we reported the matter as thoroughly as we could. Several weeks ago, when we considered the information Lisa had gathered, we decided we didn't have enough of a story to accomplish what we had hoped. Lisa moved on to other topics and we haven't decided whether the idea is worth any further effort.

Even the birth of your grandson may not dissuade the Trig conspiracy theorists from their beliefs. It strikes me that if there is never a clear, contemporaneous public record of what transpired with Trig's birth, that may actually ensure that the conspiracy theory never dies. Time will tell.

According to the “return receipt” feature of my email, my reply was opened shortly after I sent it on New Year’s Eve. Other than that, I have received no response or acknowledgement of that email.

I think I was clear that we were not asking about Trig’s birth in an effort to validate the conspiracy. Instead we were focused on the persistence of the conspiracy allegations. In the end, we didn't think the story was worth the effort required to develop it.

I find this all very interesting indeed.

If you remember about three months back Cajun Boy in the City caused a virtually internet stampede when he claimed that a reporter up here was about to release a story about Sarah Palin and little Trig that would be very revealing. The slant of his post made it seem that it would reveal that Trig was not Sarah's. As we all know that story never emerged and Cajun Boy got flamed but good.

Now we have confirmation that there was indeed an investigation and that Lisa Demer was the mysterious reporter.

So just for the record that was definitely a time when the "anonymous blogger" was completely accurate and the ADN, which denied the story, is now revealed to have been lying. Interesting no?

So my question is "If Sarah Palin was so anxious to clear up the ridiculous questions surrounding Trig Palin's birth why did she not cooperate with the ADN"?

So for the second time today I end a post about Sarah Palin saying, "it just does not make any sense! And yet I am not surprised".

  1. Palin sounds like she's getting ready to lose it. I wish ADN published the letter in its entirety rather than just one paragraph. Can't help but wonder what is taking its toll on her...the loss of two staff members (as reported by Mudflats)? Increasing public scrutiny? Or something else?

ADN needs to pursue this story without delay, and someone needs to get in touch with Lisa zdemer. This is unbeleiveable....I know that Trig is not Sarah's, and this absolutely proves it. She needs to be taken down!

I just don't know why she waste her time with the tinfoil hat crowd. She has answered and no matter what they conspiracy kooks are never going to be satisfied. This is a non story that has the interest of moonbats and dinky newspapers trying to get someone to pay attention to them.

Notalib: I don't believe the official story but I would be satisfied with photos like the ones I have, of me holding the new baby the second after the birth, or the birth records or the amnio test result form. I have a CVS test result form that proves my baby was a girl, and fine genetically.

There is a way to prove it and the fact that she won't means the rumors live on.rewst

Lilybart, why is it so important to you and others? Honestly, even if she produces pictures showing the baby coming out, would you and others believe them or just say they are fake?

Lets all get honest here, this is not about who is the "mother" it is about a general dislike of Sarah Palin, and if this issue were cleared up you all would find a new one to attack her about.

With that said, why should she waste her time on people like that?

This is question of integrity and honesty of a public official. If Sarah Palin gave birth to Trig, then prove it beyond a doubt. Stop the rumors which will never go away, why would someone do this to their career if they are being honest?
If Sarah Palin did not give birth to Trig....then that is an issue to me the voter. If she is a liar, regardless of the reason I would hesitate to vote for her.
In the 70's this was an issue with McGoverns running mate, the rumors persisted that he had received shock treatments. Eventually he was forced to come clean on his medical history....and the same will happen to Palin. The rumors are too strong and she will have to answer.

Notalib: She cares because her popularity status is important to her. That isn't a partisan comment/observation. She was, after all, a pageant contestant. And on some level, that requires a person who is seeking approval. I think a lot of her responses of late are about her perception of the declining lack of confidence her constituents have in her, her abilities.

She should exercise some political maturity and speak to things of policy importance, and not her personal stuff. But when she continues to engage in this discussion, accusses bloggers of being mean-spirited writers whecking her life, she looks pathetic. Desperate. Like she has something to hide. In the case of her letter to the editor, it COULD be seen as using her office to put some pressure on the paper to kill the story. And we all know what a mess she got herself into last time she used the leverage of her office unethically.

She is worried. I think she senses that she's being watched - everything is being watched, she sees she's losing her political standing even with her own constituents, which as she said, makes up a microcosm of the lower 48. So if she's sliding there, she can't be doing so great down here.

So my unsolicited advice to her: The campaign is over. So unless it's about regional issues/policy, hush up. Back away from ALL interviews. And get back to work for the men and women of Alaska who deserve a serious governor during a time of serious economic concern.

It matters whether she is lying about Trig or not, because she has aspirations to national office, so just because I don't live in AK, I could suffer with her in office someday.

I think the record is clear that she is a pathological liar. During the campaign, everything she said was a lie. This lie is the biggest because that Down's baby is her ticket to Fundie love and money for running for office. Without that baby proving her pro-life stance, she would just be another wingnut.

I think she proved her pro-life cred when she refused rape kits to rape victims, lest they try to prevent a preganancy.

Were you all this upset about integrity when another politician once said "I did not have sex with that women."

I have my doubts, but back to this issue she has said she is the mother, there are pictures of her pregnant, that is sufficient, she does not have to prove any further to people who hate her, her politics and her popularity.

  10. In order:
    1) Yes. He was impeached, too, as I recall.
    2) At this point in time, Sarah Palin's word on anything cannot be believed without question., at least by people with any common sense and/or intelligence. Oops! Did I imply "elite"?
    3) There are pictures of her that show her to be APPARENTLY pregnant. Two in particular that show her belly growing outward about 3 inches horizontally in 3 days in early April (not "the baby dropping", either). And there is a very good, very authentic "empathy belly" on the market for a mere $500, available to any Governor/mother of 4.

kajo I love you, you are the most entertaining moonbat ever, say I never got permission to add your picture to my Sarah Palin Conspiracy post. Any chance of your approval soon since I quote there so often.

Notalib, if there was absolutely nothing to this story, why do you keep coming back and checking the comments to respond to them? You are just as intersted in this story as everyone else, Admit, it. Appearing pregnant in photos is different than actually having a child in your uterus. Anyone can get a strap on belly.

As I told you before....her insane pregnancy and birth story is just not humanly possible, and any one who has ever given birth will tell you that. NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT FUCKING MIND WOULD GET ON A PLANE WITH CONTRACTIONS LEAKING AMNIOTIC FLUID WHILE 35 WEEKS PREGNANT WITH A KNOWN DS BABY. That right there disqualifies Palin from any type of public office.

That fact that NOT ONE single person has ever gone on record to say that they felt Sarah's baby kick inside her, that they saw her in a hospital bed, that they were on duty when she checked into the hospital is beyond incredulous. Even SP vague doctor's note never expicitally says she was present, or actually physically delivered Trig.

Sarah could end this anytime she wants, but doesn't. WHy, because she is an attention seeking, power hungry narcissist who will do or say anything to keep herself in the spotlight. Instead she whines, complains, and tells more lies, when she could send us all the biggest FU on the planet by just releasing actual records.

So enough with your moonbat, shit...go jerk off to your Sarah Plain calendar. Please Gryphen make him go away....

"She doth protestith too much..." WHy not just answer the questions and be forthright- that would end ALL the speculation- her silence and secret paranoid whiny behavior just feeds ALL the rumors...

and actually cuz people to really wonder what the truth is...

( I wonder if we will ever know ?)

ADN you story is misplaces a bit. The real story is that Sarah's own story does not make sense and/or shows absolutely awful judgment. That is what your story should pursue--her "own" words about what happened raise serious questions. I suspect that the truth of the birth is one of the following: A. that she made up details of her water breaking in Texas and then "bravely" and "calmly" travelling all the way back to have Trig on Alaskan soil; or B. she either made the trip back against doctor's advice or never bothered to ask the doctor if she could travel back or she browbeat the doctor into allowing her to fly back. Theory "A" shows her to be a terrible meglomaniac and fibber. Theory "B" shows her to be a terrible meglomaniac and fibber AND wholly devoid of common sense and good judgment. Her doctor was quoted long ago as saying she was not specifically asked by SP about flying back but that she did not find it "unreasonable." But SP's story is just CRAZY. ADN, pursue THAT!
