Tomorrow is election day and the Mayor's race finally has a little sizzle to it!

The candidates for Anchorage mayor faced off at East High on Sunday in a debate sponsored by Channel 2 News.

And with a chance for candidates to ask each other questions, the forum got heated at times.

The first tussle was between Dan Sullivan and Walt Monegan over school resource officers when Sullivan was on the Assembly and Monegan was Anchorage police chief.

"I'll never forget sitting at a work session and asking the chief, ‘If this had been funded solely by the city, is this where you would have put your officers?'" Sullivan said. "He said, ‘No we're shorthanded, I've got other priorities.'"

Monegan disagreed with Sullivan's recollection of the encounter.

"In truth it was something I supported from the very beginning," he said. "I don't recall ever making that kind of a statement."

If I have to choose between two sides of a story, and one side of the story is being told by Walt Monegan, it will not take me very long to decide where the truth can be found.

Next, Sheila Selkregg questioned Sullivan's stance on the proposed Knik Arm bridge.

"There isn't a bridge this size in the country that's ever been preceded -- built without a ferry system. There's nobody over there yet, it doesn't make sense to be building it now," she said.

"I think that's a great example of private enterprise building a key piece of infrastructure," Sullivan responded.

What is it with Republicans and building "bridges to nowhere"?

Paul Honeman asked a question of Sullivan too, implying he hasn't been following campaign signage laws.

"Is there another law you wouldn't follow as mayor? Is there any other laws you might be of concern that you might think silly enough to not follow?" Honeman asked.

This of course a very good point, and one that I wrote about last month.

Hmm maybe this Paul Honeman fellow has the good sense to make the Immoral Minority one of his daily visits on the internet. Smart fellow.

Well whoever you vote for tomorrow I certainly hope you will have the good sense to give Dan Sullivan a pass. We have a lot of good candidates but Sullivan is nothing more then a Republican cardboard cutout waiting to be fleshed out by the demands of the special interests that paid for his campaign. And don't forget that Dan Sullivan is the man that our own Governor Palin has recently endorsed.

And we certainly know how good her judgemnt has been.

She really does need a stylist, doesn't she? How hard is it though to learn from the GOP stylists about how clothes should fit, etc/

I know it's shallow, but she really is a mess.

So, what was Sullivan's answer to the illegal signage?
