Politico covers the unprecedented number of ethics complaints against Sarah Palin.

The complaints run the gamut, ranging from the governor’s use of state funds and staff to the workings of her political action committee and even to a jacket she wore to a snow machine race involving her husband.

It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly how many complaints have been filed because the state doesn’t keep count and the complaints are kept confidential by the attorney general’s office unless the state moves forward with a public accusation of wrongdoing. But in total there have been more than a dozen, and most of those have surfaced in the last seven months.
(I believe it is now up to 14.)

That much is clear because the complainants have a habit of notifying the media and bloggers each time they lodge a grievance. It’s evidence, say Palin’s defenders, that there is a clear political component to them. (That is true.)

“As we've been saying, the number of ethics complaints filed against the governor and her staff — as well as the tortured logic they contain — continue to constitute the most disturbing trend in Alaska politics,” said Palin spokeswoman Sharon Leighow in a recent statement after one ostensibly confidential complaint was sent to the Anchorage Daily News and other news outlets.

“In the past several months, we have seen an orchestrated effort by the governor’s opponents to make differences of opinion and ideology almost criminal,” said Mike Nizich, the governor’s chief of staff, in a statement. “Governor Palin has spent a considerable amount of time and money fighting ethics complaints – and no charge has been substantiated. I hope that the publicity-seekers will face a backlash from Alaskans who have a sense of fair play and proportion. I served six previous governors, and I’ve never seen anything like the attacks against Gov. Palin.”

You know that is an interesting point.  Why are there more "attacks" against Sarah Palin, than there were against previous governors?  I will admit that she has been the subject of a lot more scrutiny and negative press than Murkowski, Knowles, Hickel, Cowper, Sheffield, Hammond, and Egan all rolled together.  And obviously she has been the recipient of FAR more ethics complaints.

Why?

I think that some part of the reason must be attributed to her stint as John McCain's running mate.  She essentially left her post and than became the living breathing symbol of Alaska to the lower 48 as well as the rest of the world.  And that would not have been so bad if she was not so completely incompetent.  She was a national embarrassment to our country, to the GOP, and especially to Alaska.

And she left with an ethics charge, that she filed,  pending against her over the firing of Walt Monegan.  She could hardly have done more to leave a bad taste in our mouths.

So she came back to increased scrutiny and a lot of negative feelings.

I think many Sarah supporters would like us to believe that it is because she is a woman.  But that is a cop out.

As Progressives, we are the most compassionate and accepting of the female politician, being a woman is not Sarah's cardinal sin on our eyes. It is being deceptive.

You see Governor Palin came to power by promising to clean up Alaska politics.  She supposedly had gone up against the hard line Republicans and was offering a new and more transparent kind of politician.

But those were just words, she is anything BUT transparent.  As a matter of fact she may be the most blatantly duplicitous politician since Bill Clinton, and at least as big of a liar as Rod Blagojevich. You see this is not a strictly partisan issue either.  I recognize that the Democrats have a number of ethically challenged members as well, and would support somebody filing charges against them if there were a need.

But Governor Palin is OUR ethically challenged politician and therefore it is up to us to hold her accountable.  And I can tell you that there are definitely more problem coming her way from a variety of sources.

You know just between you an me, sometimes i feel a little sorry for Sarah Palin.  I would love it if she would leave politics and simply pursue a career in broadcasting or entertainment or something.  I might even be able to bring myself to say some positive things about her.  No really.

And do you know what?  I would like to sit down with the Governor for a no holds barred interview.  No public relations people.  No Bill McAllister staring at her butt, or Meg Stapleton staring at mine, just the Governor and I having a frank conversation.

She might not hate it.  I am actually getting kind of good at it.  My last one went quite well and the lady I interviewed left with a smile on her face.

Come on Governor, the blogger meets the Governor?  Sounds like a winner to me.  Besides it is not like we have not talked before.

  1. Watch out...the faux Sarah Palin will be making a comment soon, you betchya! I would absolutely love it if you DO have something wonderful to share with us that will bring Queen Sarah to her knees. And I bet she and her spies who are watching this and other blogs are almost shaking in their FU boots. I lived in that wonderful State for many years and have family still there, guess where...Wasilla. They've been there for a long time and even though they vote Republican, they cannot stand the woman. She is mean, stupid, vain, and totally unable to run even the tiny town of Wasilla without leaving a huge debt, much less the State of Alaska MUCH LESS the USA! God help us.

  3. Sarah Palin will NEVER consent to an interview with an "evil" blogger! As far as she is concerned, those are the "gotcha" journalists, the ones who post vicious lies and rumors about her. I think she came back from her stint as a national candidate much more cynical and much less interested in her constituents. That race affected the entire state negatively, in many different ways.

Here's a thought: If Palin would STOP BREAKING THE LAW there would be no ethics complaints.

    Duh.

I don't feel the least bit sorry for her. She is a vindictive, arrogant, self-obsessed and fundamentally lazy ignoramus who has deceived herself into thinking she is God's agent on earth, which therefore gives her the right to lord it over the rest of us and behave in whatever autocratic, unethical, greedy manner she choses. I'd like to see her in jail.

  9. ADN has a new article up stating the ethic complaints are getting out of hand. It has a tad bit of a "poor Palin" tone in that the author agrees that a couple of things Palin did didn't look good, but they weren't THAT bad. Jeeze.

Poor poor Sarah! Everyone is out to get her. It's never her! It's bloggers, the media, Obama, David Axelrod, the DNC. Just everyone!! And we have top secret meetings where we plan big global organized attacks against Sarah!! And yes even Obama comes and Axelrod gives us cash and gifts for our political efforts to do in Palin!!!!! She never has done anything wrong! Poor Sarah!! Let me get out my violin!!!!

  11. Just discovered this (through a search due to a mention of Immoral Minority on Mudflats) ... Best political blogging I've seen (although Mudflats blog is SO cleverly funny). Thanks!

Must say ... Among all Sarah's faults, I don't think she is lazy ... Just that she should have expended her energies by staying in Wasilla, keeping up on her hunting and taking care of her family.

  13. It's not she's a woman. It's not she's a conservative. It's not that I disagree with many of her positions. It's because she's a cheap little liar. It's because SHE filed a complaint against herself regarding Monegan, so she could arrange that it be reviewed by the people she appointed to Personnel. The people that owed her. And when the Alaska Legislature's investigation revealed that (a) she had the right to fire Monegan and (b) she had acted unethically, she appeared on TV waving a newspaper claiming that she had been vindicated and they found no ethical complaints to be valid. It was a flat-out lie, and it was a stupid lie because we all had heard the truth. She lies when the truth would be helpful to her. I will do anything legal I can do to keep her trapped in Alaska, and trust the Alaskans to remove her from office.

Well "torturous logic" WTF?? Publicity seeking so they file complaints?
Alaskans are tired of GINO's mantra "Im the mayor/gov and I can do what I want until the court tell me not to"
Since being mayor she has grifted her way bending the rules, still, just last week wearing another Artic cat jacket, and SOA website links to dud and artic cat! If I lived in Alaska I would be filing a ethics complaint every GD day!
And if she didn't hire a lawyer for Troopergate, she wouldn't be in the hole. Not to mention the free legal advise she got from mccain/rnc when her and dud FINALLY decided to answer the supoena!
I have absolutely no sympathy for her, grow up and start acting ethically or get the phuck out of dodge and let someone who will take care of Alaska.
Have you been to the SOA page lately???

C4p takes screen shots of comments they don't like and then sends to the advertisers putting pressure on ADN. They are now completely sucked up with GINO and C4P.
I am sick of this ALL things GINO and can't wait until the shop hits that iceberg. I can't imagine how all Alaskan's who have to live within the queen ginos reign must feel.

DO NOT FORGET YOU ARE DEALING WITH AN EXTREME NARCISSIST.

A NARCISSIST WHOSE HOUSE OF CARDS IS RAPIDLY FALLING APART.

THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR THE NARCISSIST AND FOR ANYONE ASSOCIATED WITH HER.

THIS IS NOT POLITICS. THIS IS NOT A LACK OF COMMUNICATION THAT A TALK BETWEEN YOU AND PALIN CAN EVEN BEGIN TO OVERCOME.

People often feel, and I am guilty of this, that if they could only just talk to the person, just communicate, nicely, without anger or adversity, that the problems can be resolved-- or at least mitigated somewhat.

We want ( NEED ) to believe stuff like this because it gives US power. We have power if we have control over a situation. WHEN WE REALIZE WE HAVE NO POWER(CONTROL) TO AFFECT A SITUATION, WE FEEL HELPLESS AND TO AVOID FEELING HELPLESS, WE GO INTO DENIAL AND START OUR, "ONLY IF..." THINKING.

This is also why people sometimes to "blame themselves" when they are entirely blameless in a situation. Women do this a lot when a man leaves them. "It's me ! If only I was prettier, if only I had not nagged him, etc." We think that if we can change something about ourselves ( "WHY" we are at fault) then WE can make the situation better and we can again get along with the other person.

NARCISSIST DO NOT WANT TO GET ALONG WITH YOU !

THE LAST THING A NARCISSIST WANTS TO DO IS COMMUNICATE. THE "MAKE THEIR LIVING" WITH MANIPULATION, DECEIPT AND LIE LAYERED UPON LIE.'

As a psychologist said to me years ago when I once again fell into the " maybe if I just ..." type of thinking with an very abusive boss, he looked at me, pointed both index fingers at me ( like pistols ) and nearly yelled at me: STOP IT! IT DOESN'T WORK! STOP IT ! HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE REASONABLE OR LOGICAL !

Gryphen, it is your truly compassionate and humanistic heart that is leading you but trust me, this is one time not to follow it. Palin is evil. Do not play with evil ! Oppose it, fight it, but do not show weakness !

    NO FEAR !

What amazes me is--not only how inept, how intellectually shallow, ethically challenged and self-absorbed Palin is--but how she has just skated her way through one messy fiasco after another since her stint as mayor--without any accountability or recpercussions. It is truly mind-boggling! Hopefully now, there will be some truthful reckoning in light of these ethic complaints.

"...how she has just skated her way through one messy fiasco after another since her stint as mayor--without any accountability or recpercussions. It is truly mind-boggling!

VERY TRUE and this is exactly why it is such a dangerous situation when her house of cards does start falling...and it HAS started. Big Time.

The lack of consequences she has enjoyed serves to only bolster her narcissistic delusional "reality bubble" and the higher she rises. Thus, the steeper the fall.

Narcissist try to avoid negative narcissistic supply by leaving "the scene of the accident" so to speak. For Palin, being nationally known and having every fall of a card noted in national media, there is NO place for her to go to avoid this unbearble bursting of her concept of reality.

This is going to cause her extreme stress and I dont want to sound paranoid, but I keep "feeling" that AK 47 she was just given is going to figure into bloodshed. Yes, bloodshed is VERY likely when any one who is this extreme a narcissist gets her "bubble burst."

In an iconic fashion, I believe Palin is a pawn of fate, chosen to play this role of narcissism in this unbeliveabley and unprecedented playing out of extreme narcissism in public.

Many people who have not known a narcissist previously will now be alert to the "red flags" easily and quickly seen by those of us who have had narcissism in our past. More importantly, as a nation, we will be albe to recognize the damage done by narcissism and also the banality it hides behind. This may be a part of an unfolding drama that will end up restoring true ethics and character to what has become a very narcissistic "me" generation.

In the meantime, I want to see the bitch in jail :)

Unfortunately, I believe we eventually will and it will be for a violent, not a political reason.

Palin is facing the destruction of her world as she ( a narcissist ) knows it. To a narcissist, she is facing "death" and she will do whatever she feels she needs to do to defend herself---and she will truly see it as "self defense" in her own head using that self defense as a rationality for breaking whatever laws she needs to.

This is an extremely dangerous time for her and those around her.

The funny thing is that Butler and Jones may be big fish in the small pond, but the Fred Maleks of the world have access to sharks that will run circles around those two, home-turf advantage or not.

I think Sheri and Mercede are biting off more than they can chew on this one. I'm still not prepared to write off Levi as a lost cause, but I still want to know who paid for his snazzy truck and what they got for their money...

I disagree whole-heartedly that there is a "political component" to all of this. As a citizen of this state who exercised her right and filed a complaint against the governor I can assure you that I would have done so whether it was Palin or anyone else in her position acting as she has of recent.

It makes no difference to me if that person is a Republican or a Democrat. If you behave unethically, you should be called on it. Period.

The Rex butler interview is only about a minute long is that right? Burke is as I expected. Sounds a bit biased towards Palin!!!!

I have seen one other narcissist like her fall in the public light and it was not pretty. This person had an enabler, so to speak, who did all the dirty work. He was highly manipulative like Palin. She probably has a short manipulative leash on many around her. Narcissists are master users, liars and manipulaters but they can't see it. They just see it as they've been wronged.

Excellent point. In my recent past, I had to deal with someone with a personality disorder and I had no idea what was going on. I have used the "Sarah Palin" drama of the past 8 months to watch the "red flags" go up around her. This is like a case study.

And yes, people with personality disorders look just like anyone else. They don't look like homeless people. They could be your boss, your coworker, your relative.

They do not learn and will not change. Sound familiar?

She did not "do the job" either while mayor, she hired a deputy mayor.
    Does this sound familiar?

I remember now that Joe McGinniss asked GINO for an interview to defend her gas pipeline for an article he was writing, and her people said she refused unless he would guarantee, in advance, without knowing what she would say, a flattering review of her and her pipeline project.

(For non-true crime fiction readers, Joe McGinniss is the well-know author of "Fatal Vision" a brilliant book about the McDonald murders.)

I think the clips of GINO trying to talk her way around her many shady behaviors will be valuable in days to come, as a public record of the Narcissistic Personality.

In general, I do agree with many of OneJr.Kitty's points. (I sincerely hope her fall does not involve violence to anyone.) I think she could be successful in another field.

She absolutely must never again hold a significant political office.
