At least half a dozen leaders of the Republican Party have joined forces to create a new political group with the goal of organizing grass-roots support and raising funds ahead of the 2010 midterm elections, according to people familiar with the effort.
The organizational details of the group, expected to be called the American Action Network, are still being worked out, but it is expected to contain both a 501(c)3 and a 501(c)4 component. In simpler terms, a 501(c)3 can advocate on policy matters while a 501(c)4 is an election arm.
Republican leaders expected to be affiliated with the group include former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, former Bush adviser Karl Rove, Republican strategist Ed Gillespie, and Republican donor Fred Malek.
A House leadership aide told Washington Wire today that Rob Collins, a political operative and senior aide to House Minority Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia, is leaving Capitol Hill to be the executive director of the 501(c)4. (Read more of this article from the Wall Street Journal by clicking the title of this post.)
Did you see the rogue's gallery of GOP operatives who are going to be involved in this "new" political group?
Karl Rove? Jeb Bush? Fred Malek? Are these guys serious? Do they really think they can attract the "we hate government" crowd with this gang of Washington insiders?
I mean the teabaggers don't even trust EACH OTHER enough to get organized, there is NO way they are going to throw their lot in with these idiots. Not even if they manage to corral the support of the teabagging queen herself, Sarah Palin.
What do you think?
I think the whole idea makes me sick. This group is a Who's Who of dirty, immoral, dangerous political operatives. I think I'd rather have the teabaggers in charge.
ReplyDeleteThey might be losing alot of the moderates in the Republican Party and hence want to consolidate the teabaggers? This may be their strategy to control their base. I hope it backfires on them.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Karl Rove has the soul of a crazed teabagger
ReplyDeleteI truly don't think they understand these people. They will turn on you like a feral cat. They can't help it as they truly don't trust anyone. Oh sure, they get impressed by big names in the beginning--(mostly anchors on FAUX) but try to keep them organized or on message or from foaming at the mouth.
But maybe that's what Karl wants. He's probably looking for a little adventure after the divorce and let's face it--politics is the only action he's going to get.
"I mean the teabaggers don't even trust EACH OTHER enough to get organized, there is NO way they are going to throw their lot in with these idiots."
ReplyDeleteNow now Gryph, don't underestimate their stupidity! They're dumber than we think ...
Oh Lord. . . . .it's going to get crazier
ReplyDeleteI think the baggers will look at who's in charge and think same old RINOS. You can't be grassroots when you're little more than an astroturfer and they certainly won't attract moderate Republicans (what few that remain). I suppose they could promise the baggers all kinds of things but then how is that any different from the way the Repub party has operated?
ReplyDeleteThey can't change the name and be the same sleaze balls and expect better results. If Sarah's fans are the common sense Americans she says they are(not that I think any of them have a lick of sense between them) they'll laugh and run from this pile of poo screaming RINO, RINO.
These creeps cheated Bush into the WH. They are consumate liars, propogandists and cheaters.
ReplyDeleteDon't sell then short. They will usurpt the TeaBagging rabble an the rabble won't even know it has happened till its a done dea.
The x-gov owes Malek.
ReplyDeleteI think they're angry that the teabaggers have hijacked their party and they're taking their bat and their ball and their forming their own club. No Teabaggers need apply.
ReplyDeleteNow we'll see how many of those driven away by the teabaggers will be attracted to the new and improved alternate GOP.
I'm thinking, not many.
Same game, Different name.
Well, let's see, Malek loves him some Palin, but Barbour thinks she's dumber than a box of rocks. This new party being successful depends on them being able to attract all the Republicans, including all the teabaggers and a fair number of the independents. I can't see how they can soothe the teabaggers with right-wing enough rhetoric that they don't alienate the independents. How can anyone think they can win by moving farther right? Especially if health care passes and the jobs situation improves this summer.
ReplyDeleteSounds to me like these American Action Network poobahs took a few pages from the Sarah Palin Extraction of Funds Notebook (which they probably WROTE).
ReplyDeleteThey decided she's refined the "organizing grassroots support and raising funds ahead of the 2010 midterm elections" scam well enough (hey, she did very little actual fundraising!) so that they can go ahead and squeeze the last few dollars out of the "commonsense conservatives" (read: ignorant unwashed masses).
Rice or ramen, anyone?
Since Rove has been behind Sarah since day one, this isn't much of a surprise. Remember, it's not that he actually believes in any of this stuff himself. It's always about the PR angle and what can be done with the various puppets and puppet groups he adopts. If the puppet is dumb (Sarah; teabaggers) and/or ignorant (Sarah; teabaggers) they are easily manipulated.
ReplyDeleteI think this simply means a more official attempt at doing what we know Rove & Co. planned on all along-- to usurp the confused outrage of the teabaggers. Who do we think herded those sheeple onto the buses to get them to those rallies or those protests against health care reform at the town hall meetings? The puppet masters were there, behind the scenes, all along. Now that these Washington greed heads realized what a disorganized and emotionally unbalanced mob the teabaggers are, Rove and co. are trying to create a more permanent structure to control them.
ReplyDeleteHa- good luck with that !
This isn't about creating a new party, it's about collecting money from the gullible.
ReplyDeleteThey learned from watching SarahPAC and they want a piece of the action.
What's most disturbing about this is that these are not Teabags - they're shrewd operatives, and they're not doing this without a plan. Rove is very good at determining where weaknesses are - both the opposition's and his candidate's, and laying out a strategy based on the number of votes he needs to gain. The real Teabags are weak, they have no organization, and they're certainly not anti-Republican when Republican candidates are willing to embrace their anger. Last week Palin encouraged the Teabags to join with the Republicans - do you not think she had Malek in her ear? Just like when she was with the McCain campaign - if you can't eavesdrop on the pirates, listen to their parrot.
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 3:09--I misread your comment as "Rove has been behind Satan since day one" and I didn't even blink . . .
ReplyDeleteGuess I need to take a short break from bizarro-Palin-world!
Malek needs to go kissPalins Patootee a bit more, then he too can get paid for kissing it.
ReplyDeleteGryphen, come over to Palingates.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, wonder if they invited Sarah to join up or if this is being organized to neutralize her. There are about 6 Republicans who would rather eat glass than allow her to get the nomination. I'm thinking this is the traditional Republican power base fighting back.
ReplyDeleteFrom some of the names mentioned, it seems like the Rethug Party's inner voices are slithering out.
ReplyDeleteI think it's time to go to the store and stock up on popcorn and adult beverages!
ReplyDeleteThis gave me a good laugh at lynnrockets. The pic has the caption, "Tea Party Convention Officials anxiously await Palin's decision."

BJA,
ReplyDeleteI think it to neutralize Palin. Barbour and Jeb Bush have both said they want a big tent. Palin doesn't appear to care. Barbour also said they don't need a litmus.
I actually think thhey don't know what to do about. I think she has a real chance of destroying the Repub party.
Ms Whackface Palin better watch her step....When she's messing with the Rethug Party and is considered "a divider", she could just disappear from the scene. It happened during the previous 8 yrs. End up missing or laid out in a morgue. Yep, afraid she's getting too big for her britches...you betcha....Hope it doesn't happen...rather her face the courts and jail time....let her suffer in this lifetime....
ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly, a small group of Republicans met last year at some dive in Virginia to talk about "rebranding" the Republican Party. I know Jeb Bush was one of them, but I can't remember the others.
ReplyDeleteSo, THIS is what the call rebranding the Republican Party? Man, they're in a BAD way.
LOL! This is good for Alaska HOW?

I think even the Republican Party has already tired of her self-absorbed dramas, family disasters and bizarre inch-deep thought process, such as "abstinence + candies' hookerwear and teen sex ads = a good opportunity for my teenager who is already a mother!" WTF kind of conservative would set their child up to become a joke like that? It's almost as if she wanted her daughter to look stupid to spite her, which would be right up mean girl mom's alley.
ReplyDeleteIt's the same kid of mom who would parade a pregnant teen on a national stage as some kind of alternate family values statement. WTF? I sure don't want my kid to end up like yours, lady--that's why my teenager and I talk about birth control and safe sex.
Palin's just got a really special kind of clueless. She is entertaining to watch though, in a kind of riveting train wreck way, because it's obvious she's has no interest in getting any smarter.
What's wrong with repubs is they brought us gw and his crappy values. The only thing that matters to them is money if you have a lot you are a "better" person than one who has less. If you didn't go to Yale you are less valuable. This is crap. This is the antithesis of a US Patriot's view of our nation's constitution. Our great experiment. There are beautiful realities here in Alaska that have nothing to do with money. The beauty of the land, the memories of the people attached to that land for hundreds of years. All of that is VALUABLE! Jarge should stay in his parched part of the whirled. Hang out with his skirt wearing Saudi pals. Stay out of our business. Alaska? Vote for Democrats. Vote the repubs ALL out of our state. We are still sick of their stupid vapid craziness. The bizillionnaire has exactly one vote just like the young, broke person just starting out. Beyond that rigging is just not needed.
