Keith Olbermann's father has passed away.

This from Keith's blog, "Baseball Nerd", which you can visit by clicking the title.

My father died, in the city of his birth, New York, at 3:50 EST this afternoon.

Keith goes on to eloquently (of course) describe the man that was his father, and his unwavering support for Keith and his career.  I urge all of you to take the time to read his moving epitaph to his own personal hero.

I have little doubt that the disturbed minds of those on the Right will say horrible things about this man, and ridicule Keith's obvious affection and desire be at his father's side as he spent his last moments on this earth.

As Celtic Diva's post made so obvious just today, these people are heartless and will say the most hateful things imaginable in order to hurt or demean those they view as their enemies.  It is no wonder they demonstrate so little compassion for those who suffer with terrible illness and without adequate health care to ease their suffering.

Personally I have been deeply touched by Keith's commitment to his father and can only hope that my child shows that kind of dedication as I shuffle off this mortal coil.

So I would like to take this moment to bid farewell to Theodore C. Olbermann, and to thank him for raising such a fine son.  He has been a great comfort to those of us traumatized by the criminal activity of the Bush administration.  Without Keith I am not sure I would have made it through those dark years as well as I did.

If the senior Mr. Olbermann did nothing else with his life than to gift us with his son Keith, welll that was a life well spent indeed.

Thank you sir, your country owes you a debt of gratitude.

Mr & Mrs O. raised a fine Son. They raised him with love & compassion.
His Mom was a big baseball fan here in NY. Sounds like the family had a great sense of humor.
Keith, thank you for sharing your experience with us.

We will see you back on MSNBC when you are ready. Please be kind to yourself, you took very good care of him.

Prayers to you & your family.

  7. When KO said his dad had opened his eyes I figured he was close to passing away. Often people will get better just before death or suddenly tell everyone they feel great and then visit with lots of people before they die. I once had a nun as a patient who had been in a coma for weeks who woke up and began walking all over the place which is very odd because she should not have been able to do that. She requested bacon and eggs for breakfast, ate all day and visted with tons of her friends. Then that night she died in her sleep.

I'm so sad for Keith. His father and mother did raise a wonderful son. I'm so proud of him. He spoke truth when the Bush gang was intimidating everyone else and turning American news into propoganda. Thank God for Keith. I wish America had more great guys like him. He and his dad set a sterling example of what is possible. Not everyone has such familial support these days. God Bless these guys forever.

Gryphen, sad to hear about Keith Olbermann's father passing. Losing a parent is a terrible thing.

I do have to pick a bone with you, though, as far as I know NO ONE on the RIGHT has wished Rectal Cancer on People, have said that they want to Throw Someone Down the Stairs, Want People to be Gang Raped, Wish that the Pentagon Shooter would have Shot Someone Else. Sorry, all that is from the Left. I will give you that maybe someone has said something nasty, but as a whole, I have found that the Liberal Left Progressives are much nastier.

Yeah anon 6:40, it's only the liberals that say horrible things. Right. Please see if you can defend what conservative darling Dan Riehl said about Majority Leader Reid's wife, who was injured in a car accident:

"why are we bothering with someone who has a broken neck and back at 69? It sounds to me like she's pretty well used up and has probably been living off the taxpayers for plenty of years to begin with..Come on, Harry - do your civic duty. The nation's broke and counting on you guy. Pull the plug and get back to work. Air freight her home, you can bury her during recess on your own time and dime.."

And if you intend to answer "oh that's satire" go fuck yourself. Neither side is perfect. Don't be so fricking sanctimonious. I submit there are more instances of this kind of thing from the right.

Gryphen is right 6:40 it is not even close.I read comments on many stories from both sides and I have never read where someone from the left wished harm to someone on the right other than that they lose their government jobs.I have never seen death threats sent to the right like I have seen sent to writers on the blogs that are neutral or left leaning.
