Before we dive into the ugliness of Alaska political landscape, let's take a moment to remember the beauty that makes it all worthwhile.

This is was taken just down the street from where I live.

Every once in a while I find myself struck by the sun glinting off the mountains, or the clouds lazily drifting across the azure sky, and I stop in my tracks and wonder how I ever got so lucky to have lived my whole life surrounded by such beauty.

I went to the apple orchard to get apples yesterday and the hills in the distance were frosted.
I have to go a little bit further to see the beauty of where I live, but only a few miles.
This is my favorite time of year, the light, the colors the crispness in the air.
That is why this election this year is bothering me so much.
The ugliness and hated is so apparent and knowing that there are many wanting to be elected that will not be stewards of the land, that they will allow others to rape and plunder for profit and greed

  3. Living in the lower 48, it's hard to get a handle on Alaska politics, but your blog helps a lot and posts like this beautiful landscape are a wonderful bonus.

Just wanted to let you know that I am a big fan of what you are doing. Thanks and keep up the good work

How about a laugh at Joe Miller or Sarah Palin this morning via a HuffPo comedy entry on willful ignorance? Sure seems like an ad that either JM or SP would run.

    Enjoy.

I agree with 2:34 a.m.'s comment. This weekend, I was driving around Pennsylvania and Delaware. I saw some O'Donnell signs. Cringe! Totally destroyed admiring the beautiful autumn leaves for me.

Just when the endless rain and grey skies in PWS get to me, I stop and watch the clouds pouring down the side of the mountain, or a wall of glacier fog advancing up the passage, a glint of light reflecting off the muskeg ponds or the wings of a flock of gulls and I go, "Yeah, that's why I'm here."

    Gorgeous!

OT, Gryphen, someone asked this awhile back on another thread but I never saw if you posted an answer. Are Mercede and Sherry OK? Haven't seen a new blog entry in a month, so I'm hoping all is well.
